I BOUGHT A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE CAR JERK VIGOROUSLY OUT OF GEARS AND I AM AFRAID THAT ONE DAY, I MAY GET IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS DEFECT. I AM ONE OF MANY SUFFERING FROM THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN, THEY DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH ME. *TR
'04 MAXIMA, MAINTAINED REGULARLY, ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED IN SUMMER OF '03(FIRST BATCH OF ASSY. LINE); TRANSMISSION SLIPS FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THE FIRST 25K MILES ON THE CAR. I GOT THE TRANS FLUID FLUSHED AND WAS FINE BUT THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 50K MILES. I ASKED THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS AND THE DEALERSHIP WHY THIS KEEPS RE-OCCURRING AND THEY BOTH SAID THAT "THAT'S JUST THE WAY THAT CAR IS." LIKE CLOCK WORK IT HAPPENS EVERY 25K MILES. I CONTINUE TO GET THE TRANS FLUID FLUSHED/CHANGED EVERY 25K, CAR IS NOW AT 115K MILES, JUST HAD IT DONE AT 100K AND PROBLEM IS STARTING AGAIN ALREADY. I'M FEARING ONE DAY SOON THE TRANSMISSION IS JUST GOING TO GO ALL TOGETHER AND I WILL BE LOOKING AT PROBABLY $4K - $6K FOR REPAIR. I LOVE MY MAXIMA AND BOUGHT IT FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE THAT THEY HAVE A REPUTATION FOR LONG LASTING CARS, BUT IT SEEMS THERE WERE SOME FLAWS WHEN THEY INTRODUCED THIS NEW BODY STYLE YEAR (NOT SURE HOW DIFFERENT THE ENGINES OR TRANSMISSIONS ARE IN COMPARISON TO THE PREVIOUS MODELS) AND THESE TYPES OF ISSUES ARE NOT MAKING ME WANT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE IN THE FUTURE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATES HIS MOTHER OWNS AN '06 MAXIMA (SAME TRANS) AND JUST HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. HE TOLD ME, "IT'S COMING. IT'S IF IT'S WHEN". THIS ISSUE IS POSTED ALL OVER THIS SITE AND MANY OTHERS. WHY ISN'T NISSAN STEPPING UP TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND CAUSED ME TO SLAM INTO WALL. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, HAD MY CHILDREN IN BACKSEAT WITH SEATBELTS ON. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE NHTSA ISN'T FORCING A RECALL ON ALL TRANSMISSIONS. I LOOKED IT UP AND THOUSANDS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO LOOK INTO A SUIT AGAINST NISSAN AND AS WELL AS THE NHTSA IF NOTHING IS DONE. THAT'S A GUARANTEE AND I'M SURE I HAVE MANY SUPPORTERS. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. IT HAS CURRENTLY A LITTLE OVER 93K ON THE ODOMETER. LIKE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE I HAVE ENCOUNTERED VIA INTERNET SEARCHES AND BLOGS, HAVE THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SHIFTS HARD AND JERKS WHEN COMING TO A STOPPED AND HESITATES TO PROCEED WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE (UP TO 5 SECONDS). I WAS ADVISED EVENTUALLY THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. I AM INTERESTED IN BEING PART OF ANY CLASS ACTION MOVEMENT TO FORCE NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT AND MAKE GOOD BY REPAIRING THE CARS AFFECTED AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER OR REIMBURSING THOSE WHO INDEPENDENTLY RESOLVE THE ISSUE. AN UNEXPECTED AUTO REPAIR OVER $3000 DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT WOULD BE DEVASTATING TO A SINGLE FATHER ON LIMITED BUDGET. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THE CONSUMER. *TR
2004 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION AUTOMATIC WITH / MANUAL PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE LINK TO A SENSOR? TRANSMISSION JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND WITH HIGH RPM'S WITH A DELAY THEN SLAMMING INTO GEAR. DANGEROUS WHEN HAPPENING IN TRAFFIC, CAR DOES NOT SHIFT FAST ENOUGH TO GET THE PROPER SPEED TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC COMING FROM BEHIND. ALSO NOTICING THAT WHEN BRAKING FROM A HIGH SPEED GOING DOWN HILLS IT SEEMS TO BRING ON THE PROBLEM TOO. HAVE BEEN TO REPAIR SHOPS, AGAIN NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT CAN BE WITH OUT SPENDING A ZILLION DOLLARS ON ALL THAT THEY THINK IT COULD BE. WAITING FOR A OTHER TRANSMISSION WHICH I FEEL THAT IT IS A WASTE BECAUSE IF THEY CAN'T FIND OUT WHAT THIS PROBLEM IS ON THIS TRANSMISSION THEN IT IS ONLY GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN ON THE NEXT .WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A WHILE NOW ,BUT BECAUSE OF THE COST OF ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AND THE COST OF LABOR WE HAVE BEEN USING THE CAR AS CAREFULLY AS WE CAN. AFTER READING OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WILL BE DONE. WE ARE PAST THE WARRANTY LIKE EVERYONE ELSE THAT HAS FILED A COMPLAINT . TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE PROCEEDING TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM 30 MPH,THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED THEN DOWN-SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR . THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE OPERATION. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED HESITATION WHEN SHIFTING FROM "REVERSE" INTO THE "DRIVE" GEAR . THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO DEFECTIVE PRESSURE POINTS WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 94,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. HERE RECENTLY MY TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING, I BEGAN TO LOOK ONLINE FOR RECALLS AND FOUND THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE MY CAR ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THEY WASN'T FOR SURE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE VALVE BODY THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED,AND IT WAS GOING TO COST 2,000-3,000 DOLLARS, I WAS ASTONISHED THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I THOUGHT NISSAN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WELL MADE CAR THAT IS WHY WE BOUGHT IT. ALSO THE MECHANIC I TOOK MY CAR TO SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSE IT WAS NOT SHOWING ANYTHING ON THE MACHINE, SO HE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD HIM WHAT IT WAS AND THEY HAD SEVERAL OF THAT PART THAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE CAR IN STOCK, SO THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW AT NISSAN THAT THEY WOULD BE NEEDING SEVERAL OF THOSE PARTS TO HAVE SO MANY READILY AVAILABLE AND I THINK NISSAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR THAT AND NOT RECALLING THE PART. OBVIOUSLY NISSAN WOULD NOT BE MAKING A PART THAT COST SO MUCH MONEY AND NOT BE ABLE TO SELL THEM SO SHAME ON THEM. *TR
I BOUGHT MY NISSAN MAXIMA 04 ALMOST A MONTH AGO. I SPENT ALL OF MY MONEY THAT I SAVED UP TO PURCHASE THIS CAR (I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT--I HAVE NO MONEY). I AM NOW EXPERIENCING A JERKING MOTION WHEN CAR SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF I AM THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND I AM NOT. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL GET WORSE AND I WILL BE STUCK WITH A PIECE OF CRAP THAT DOES NOT GET ME ANYWHERE. I AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND SCARED BECAUSE FROM THE BLOG THAT I JUST READ I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
2004 NISSAN MAX CONSTANTLY SLIPS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND SOMETIMES WHEN BACKING UP. USUALLY OCCURS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES. HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CLEANED TWICE, BEEN ON THE MACHINE TWICE, AND READING OTHERS COMPLAINTS FOR THE ONES THAT HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. 71K MILES ON CAR. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING. THE CAR IS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR AND YOU CAN'T EVEN MANUALLY SHIFT IT OUT OF 5TH. THERE HAD BEEN SOME JERKING WHEN THE CAR WAS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR FOR A WHILE BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT ACCELERATION TO ALLOW ONE TO GET OUT OF HARM'S WAY OR TO SAFELY MANEUVER IN TRAFFIC. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO DOWNSHIFT TO ASSIST IN THE DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
'04 MAXIMA, MAINTAINED REGULARLY, ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED IN SUMMER OF '03(FIRST BATCH OF ASSY. LINE); NOISE COMING FROM RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE. NOISE WAS LOUD WHEN ENGINE WAS COLD AND WOULD GO AWAY AFTER ENGINE HAD WARMED UP. EVENTUALLY STARTED TO STILL HEAR THE NOISE (NOT AS LOUD) AFTER ENGINE WAS WARM. LOCAL REPAIR SHOP SAID THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TIMING CHAIN AND MOST LIKELY THE GUIDE HAD BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING THE CHAIN AND STATED BOTH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS SHOP HAD NEVER DONE ONE OF THESE REPAIRS ON A NISSAN BECAUSE "THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO A NISSAN MOTOR". YET THEY FOUND MANY TSBS AND INTERNET SEARCH RESULTS ABOUT MY PARTICULAR MODEL CAR HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE THE DEALERSHIP TAKE A LOOK. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND WITHOUT TELLING THEM WHAT THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP SAID, ONLY SUMMARIZING THE EXPLANATION OF THE NOISE WHEN ENGINE WAS COLD AND THEN GOES AWAY AFTER WARM UP, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INTERRUPTED ME AND SAID, "IT'S THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDE". HE BARELY LET ME FINISH THE STORY BEFORE HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. HE SAID THAT WAS BECAUSE HE (HIS SERVICE CENTER) HAS DONE THIS REPAIR ON 04 MAXIMA'S SO MANY TIMES IT'S RIDICULOUS. HE ALSO STATED THAT IT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY NISSAN AS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 04 MODEL ENGINES BUT YET WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. NISSAN BOASTS THAT THE TIMING CHAINS IN THESE ENGINES ARE MAINTENANCE FREE OR AT LEAST WORTH 300K+ MILES (SINCE BY THAT TIME MOST OWNERS WOULD HAVE GOT 15 YEARS+ OUT OF THE CAR), BUT YET THE PARTS TO HOLD THE CHAIN ON BREAK DOWN WAY BEFORE THAT. THE LABOR TO REPAIR THE SURROUNDING PARTS IS THE SAME TO REPLACE THE CHAIN SINCE THE TECH HAS TO REACH TO THE SAME SPOT OF THE ENGINE FOR REPAIRS. I WAS ORIGINALLY QUOTED $1500.+ FOR THE REPAIRS BUT WAS ABLE TO STRIKE A SMALL DISCOUNT AND PAID $1133.55 FOR "2 TENSIONER CHAINS", "CHAIN GUIDE", "TENSIONER ASSEMBLY", AND SOME OTHER SEALS & GASKETS. LABOR ALONE WAS $787.50. WHICH WAS DISCOUNTED FROM $1100.+. OUTRAGEOUS. *TR
JUST CAME BACK FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED THE SHIFTING PROBLEM TO BE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION RELATED AND NEED TO REPLACE IT. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 73K MILES AND DON'T BELIEVE SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE SHOULD BE HAPPENING AT THIS POINT. MY INTERNET SEARCH HAS NOW UNCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH MY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. I THINK NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THESE MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES. THANK YOU *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 64000 MILES, HAS STARTED SHIFTING HARD IN 1ST, AND 2ND GEARS, WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO FEEL THE GEARS CHANGING AT ALL. ALSO THERE IS A TICKING COMING FROM THE TIMING BELT WHICH I AM TOLD IS NORMAL....DOESN'T SOUND NORMAL TO ME! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHEN THE GEARS SHIFTED FROM SECOND TO THIRD, THE TRANSMISSION LOST POWER, SHOOK, AND ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. IN 2009 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, THE CAM-SHAFT SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE WASN'T CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
THE PROBLEM STARTED SMALL AND HAS BECOME AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD AND LAGS BETWEEN SHIFTS. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGES IT DOES SO WITH A HARD BANG. *TR
ABOUT 12 MONTHS AGO WITH $165,000 MILES ON MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA BEGAN TO JERK WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM HIGHER GEARS. VEHICLE ALSO HAD TROUBLE ENGAGING 3RD AND 4TH GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING. TOOK VEHICLE TO NISSAN, WHO SUGGESTED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, HAD THIS DONE BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED BUT LESS FREQUENTLY. ONCE THE PROBLEM BECAME FREQUENT AGAIN THE PROCEDURE WAS REPEATED. INQUIRED IF A RECALL WAS OPEN FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NISSAN SAID NO, BUT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND FOUND THAT NUMEROUS OWNERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND FELT I NEEDED TO REPORT MY SITUATION. I AM CURRENTLY SAVING MONEY TO PURCHASE THE NEW TRANS BEFORE REPLACING. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS HARD SHIFTING FROM 1-2 2-3 SMALL VIBRATION THAT CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED BY DEALER OR TIRE SHOP. *TR
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

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN LOW SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO SLIP GEARS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND FLUIDS WERE REPLACED. ONE MONTH LATER, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
