I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. ABOUT 1 WEEK AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR DOESN'T START RIGHT AWAY AND ALSO STALLS DURING OPERATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 45 MPH, THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE BRAKES THEN ENGAGED WITHOUT DRIVER WARRANT. THE CONTACT HAD NOT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND INSTEAD, ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,891.
SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM NISSAN DEALERSHIP ITS BEEN ONE THING AFTER THE OTHER FIRST THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS ALREADY BROKE WHEN THE SOLD IT TO US THEY TURNED THE ENGINE LITE OFF PRIOR TO GOING FOR TEST DRIVE THE DAY WE BOUGHT N RODE HOME THE LITE CAME RIGHT BACK ON & HAS BEEN ON SINCE STILL IS DEALER SAID 1500$$ AN THEY WOULD FIX IT NICE... THE FRONT SEAT BROKE, GAS TANK LID WOULDN'T OPEN HAD TO FIX IT, AN NOW STEERING HAS WENT 640$$ TO FIX IT ?? *TR
DRIVER SIDE VISOR DOES NOT STAY UP COMPLETELY - DROPS INTO LINE OF SIGHT. *TR
MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT SUDDENLY MADE A METALLIC POPPING NOISE AND MY SEAT TILTED BACKWARDS WHILE I WAS DRIVING. UPON INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM, THINKING PERHAPS A BOLT HAD LOOSENED, DISCOVERED THAT THE SUPPORT BARS FOR THE SEAT HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN AWAY FROM THE SEAT. I AM DISMAYED BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. MY DEALER SAID HE HAS TO FIX ONE EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. I AM NOW PROPPING MY SEAT UP WITH THREE REAMS OF PAPER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO SL WILL SOMETIMES BE SLOW TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR INPUTS. USUALLY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT AN HOUR, IF I COME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT OR AN OFF RAMP, WHEN I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENS FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN THE VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD AT A RAPID RATE LIKE I FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER I DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR SLIGHTLY OR AGGRESSIVELY. SOMETIMES IF IT GETS TOO BAD, I WILL TURN THE CAR OFF THEN START IT UP AGAIN TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE FOR A WHILE. IT IS OBVIOUSLY SOME COMPUTER THING. MY DEALER IS USELESS AND I AM TIRED OF TAKING THE CAR IN TO HIM. HE DOESN'T FIX THINGS WELL IF I TELL HIM WHAT IS WRONG, TO ASK HIM TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM WOULD BE AGONIZING. I AM JUST LIVING WITH THIS UNTIL IT GETS WORSE, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO ON THE HIGHWAY IN NORMAL TRAFFIC AND I HEARD A POP AND MY DRIVER SEAT DROPPED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. ONCE I STOPPED THE VEHICLE I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT TO INVESTIGATE, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING LOOSE OR BROKEN OFF. I THEN TRIED TO MOVE THE SEAT AND THE SEAT EASILY MOVES OFF OF THE FLOOR AND UP TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY FELT THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE IN DRIVING THE CAR. I WAS THANKFUL THAT THE SEAT DID NOT MOVE DRAMATICALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AS I AM SURE THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE ONE TIME BUT THE SEAT NOW CONTINUALLY MOVES IF MAKING A FAST STOP. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND AT THIS POINT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE COST WILL NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL AND WILL BE AT LEAST $1000. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AS A CRACKED SEAT FRAME. IF THE SEAT FRAME IS CRACKING DURING NORMAL USE WITH AN AVERAGE SIZE PERSON (125 LBS) I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW THE SEAT WOULD HANDLE A FULL ON ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IF THE FRAME IS ALREADY CRACKED. NOT TO MENTION THE SEAT FRAME CRACKING COULD CAUSE THE ACCIDENT. *TR
2003 NISSAN MURANO CAM POSITION SENSOR CODE. MY CAR HAS STALLED AND CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE REASON IS THE CAM POSITION SENSOR. NISSAN SAYS THAT MY VIN NUMBER ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL. I SAY IT SHOULD BE. IT A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN YOU LOSE POWER UNEXPECTEDLY. *TR
2003 NISSAN MURANO. SUN VISOR FAILED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS JUST PAST ORIGINAL WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE VISOR FOR FREE BECAUSE I HAD HAD OTHER WORK DONE THERE. SUN VISOR IS NOW FAILING FOR A SECOND TIME, FLOPS DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY OVER WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I WAS TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD A BIT BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT FINALLY LURCHED FORWARD AFTER A FEW SECONDS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AT EVERY STOP AFTER THAT UNTIL I SHUT IT OFF. I TOOK MY MURANO TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN EAST PROVIDENCE, RI AND WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE DEALERSHIP ACTED LIKE THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE, BUT SEARCHING THE INTERNET REVEALS THIS IS S COMMON PROBLEM WITH MURANOS. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. *TR
CAM POSITION SENSOR (VIA CHECK ENGINE LIGHT)
FEBRUARY 2010 I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 MURANO DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN AS I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL AND IT WASN'T RESPONDING PROPERLY BEGAN TO HESITATE BUT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS A SENSOR MALFUNCTION SO IT WAS REPLACED (AT MY EXPENSE $1100). THEN IN APRIL 2010 DRIVING DOWN THE STREET I HEARD A THUMP AND AS I PUSHED THE GAS AND THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO DRAG AND HESITATE. I MADE IT SAFELY TO A BANK PARKING LOT WHERE I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAY IT WAS SOME SENSOR THAT DEALT WITH THE THROTTLE AND A CASE. AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE ($3200). SO IN 2 MONTHS I SPENT $4500 AND AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD I SHOULD BE OK. WELL IT IS NOW APRIL 2011 AND I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. NOW I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE WHICH ISS WERE IT SITS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD SINE I WENT MORE THAN 12K MILES IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SO I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT IS USELESS UNLESS I SPEND ANOTHER $4500 TO FIX IT. UNEXCEPTABLE!!!!!!! I AM LUCKY I WAS NOT INJURED BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT SOON OR SOMEONE CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
WHEN PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR DOES NOT RESPOND THEN LUNGES FORWARD. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR 3-5 TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE THEN IT WILL LURCH FORWARD. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. *TR
1: AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR ALONG PERIOD OF TIME IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR ON THE THRUWAY. THEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PRESSING THE GAS THE CAR WILL CRAWL FORWARD AS IF YOU WERE NOT PRESSING DOWN THE GAS PEDAL AFTER 1-3 SEC OF THE CAR CRAWLING INTO THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECT AND NO WAY TO GET IT OUT OF THE INTERSECT WHEN OTHER CARS ARE COMING DOWN AT 40MPH INTO THE INTERSECTION; WILL BE DISASTROUS AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE A LOST OF LIFE. AFTER 1-3 SEC THE TRANSMISSION WILL FINALLY ENGAGE. THE FUNNY PART IS WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT THE PROBLEM CLEARS IT SELF UNTIL IT PROBLEM RECURS. AFTER READING OTHER STORIES OF THERE'S CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE MURANO DOING THE SAME THING TO THE OTHER MURANO CUSTOMER. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER 2: THIS IS A SPORADIC EVENT AND EVERY TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT CHECK THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 9TH AND TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION PERFORMED NORMAL AND IT WAS ENGINE [MISFIRING AND SLIGHTLY BURNING OIL AND COMPRESSION LOST RELATED NOT TRANSMISSION [I HAVE ENOUGH AUTOMOTIVE SKILL TO TELL ME THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A MISFIRE/SLIGHTLY BURNING OIL/COMPRESSION LOST BECAUSE ONCE YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS, WITHA ENGINE MISFIRE IT WOULD STILL PERSIST, THE ENGINE IS 100% RUNNING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM UNTIL THIS PROBLEM ARISE: SO YESTERDAY, WHEN IT STARTED HAPPENING TO MY WIFE ON HER DRIVE, I ADVISE HER TO STOP IMMEDIATELY AT THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT I, TO MY SURPRISE THEY REFUSED!!! TO TAKE A 2ND LOOK AT IT AS THEY ADVISE ME THEY ALREADY DIAGNOSTIC IT AS A ENGINE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT. I CALLED THEM AND DEMANDED THAT A SERVICE TECH, TEST DRIVE IT AND HE SAID NOPE THIS IS A ENGINE PROBLEM AND TOLD MY WIFE TO TELL ME THAT IM MAKING ALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MAD?!. I TOOK IT TO 2 OTHER TRANSMISSION PLACE AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THIS IS 100% INDEED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 35 MPH SHE NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING NHTSA RECALL #05V319000: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: ALTERNATOR/ GENERATOR/ REGULATOR AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) SAFETY ISSUE WITH 2003 NISSAN MURANO SUN VISOR: MY WIFE'S 2003 MURANO HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SUN VISOR THAT CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING; THE VISOR POPS DOWN RANDOMLY, BOTH WITH BUMPS IN THE ROAD, AND ON ITS OWN. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING; THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NISSAN SHOULD ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY. IN THE INTERIM, WHAT I HAVE DONE TO MITIGATE THE RISK IS REMOVED THE VISOR UNTIL 1. I CAN SOURCE A REPLACEMENT SOMEPLACE OTHER THAN THE DEALER, OR 2. FIGURE OUT IF THERE ARE DEALER REPLACEMENT OPTIONS - AT DEALERS COST. I TALKED TO NISSAN AND CONFIRMED THERE ARE NO KNOWN RECALL CAMPAIGNS FOR THIS ITEM. IN READING NISSAN FORUM INPUT, THERE ARE ISSUES WITH MORE THAN JUST MY YEAR, THERE ARE ALSO ISSUES WITH 2004, AND 2005'S AS WELL. THAT SAID I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE NISSAN HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS AS A SAFETY CONCERN, AND WILL NOT REPLACE AS A WARRANTY ITEM EITHER. ALL NISSAN OWNERS NEED THE HELP OF THIS AGENCY TO DRIVE THE POINT HOME; NISSAN SHOULD LAUNCH A RECALL TO HAVE THEM REPLACED SAVING OWNERS $250-$300 OR MORE FOR INFERIOR PARTS, PARTS THAT FOR SOME OWNERS HAVE FAILED MORE THAN ONCE. 2003 NISSAN MURANO. DRIVER'S SEAT SQUEAKED FROM TIME TO TIME SINCE 2005. IT HAS BEEN SEEN AT A DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT ALWAYS REFERRED AS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. SOME ADDED LUBRICATION TO STOP IT FROM MAKING NOISE AND IT STOPPED FOR A TIME. IN AUGUST OF 2009 I MOVED TO VIRGINIA FROM FLORIDA. THE ROADS IN VA HAVE FAR MORE CURVES AND HILLS THAN THOSE IN FL. TODAY THE SEAT BACK FELL BACKWARDS AS I WAS DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE LOWER SUPPORT BRACKET, JUST ABOVE THE SEAT TRACK, FOR THE SEAT HAD SPLIT IN HALF. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO LOOK IT OVER. ONLINE I WAS QUICKLY ABLE TO FIND MANY WEBSITES SPEAKING OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS AND SOME HAD THE EXACT OUTCOME AS THAT OF MY SEAT. I ALSO NOTED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE08065. I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN MY CAR, WHICH UPTO THIS POINT I HAD FULL CONFIDENCE IN. I DON'T THINK I WILL BE RECOMMENDING THIS CAR OR ANY OTHER NISSAN FOR THAT MATTER. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE CAR SEAT BRACKET BROKE ON NISSAN MURANO. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE NOT DRIVING, STOPPING SUDDENLY OR HAVING IMPACT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE OR OBJECT. THIS IS A TRUE SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, NISSAN RESPONDED THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE $1150.00 REPAIR. A REPAIR FOR SOMETHING THAT TRULY MUST BE DUE TO A LACK OF QUALITY/DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
REGULAR USE OF THE SUN VISOR IN MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE SUNVISOR FAILS TO STAY UP AND IS VERY LOOSE AND WILL FALL DOWN DURING DRIVING, WHICH THEN OBSTRUCTS THE FIELD OF VISION OF THE DRIVER SERIOUSLY COMPROMISING SAFETY. THE SUNVISOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACE, AND/OR THE MECHANISM THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOLDING AN UP POSITION OF THE SUNVISOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF THE BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANK SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A SIMILAR RECALL ON OTHER NISSAN MODELS REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING (CRANK SHAFT SENSOR) BUT THE 2003 MURANO WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK SINCE THERE WAS NO RELATED RECALL FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
IN JAN 2010 WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH THE ENGINE OF MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO SUDDENLY DIED LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. IT WAS TERRIFYING, BUT LUCKILY, I MANAGED TO GET TO SHOULDER WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. CAR ENGINE RESTARTED WITHOUT HESITATION. AFTER WAITING 5 MINUTES WITH ENGINE IDLING SMOOTHLY WITH NO APPARENT PROBLEM, I EXITED TO FRONTAGE ROAD AT NEXT EXIT AND, 3 MILES LATER, AT 30 MPH THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED AGAIN. RESTARTED AND PULLED INTO NEARBY PARKING LOT. CAR AGAIN RESTARTED WITHOUT PROBLEM. AFTER 10 MINUTES OF IDLING SMOOTHLY, ENGINE DIED WHILE PARKED. HAD CAR TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER. NISSAN SHOP REPORTED THAT THE "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED." I FOUND THAT THERE WAS RECALL ISSUED IN 2003 FOR 2003 MODEL YEAR NISSAN MURANO FOR EXACTLY THIS ISSUE, BUT BOTH DEALER AND NISSAN USA, WHEN CONTACTED BY ME, SAID THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VIN # (EVEN THOUGH NHTSA INDICATED RECALL AFFECTED 600,000 VEHICLES). I BELIEVE THE FAILURE OF MY CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FAULTY SOLDER JOINTS IN THE CIRCUIT BOARDS FOR THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AS DESCRIBED IN THIS RECALL. I BELIEVE THE FOLLOWING RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL 2003 MODEL YEAR NISSAN MURANO VEHICLES: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V455000, NISSAN RECALL #: R3022). *TR
THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TIME THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IN MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WILL SUDDENLY DROP AND BLOCK VISIBILITY WHENEVER THE CAR DRIVES OVER BUMPY SPOTS ON THE ROAD. ALTHOUGH NUMEROUS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM (SEE: WWW.NISSANFORUMS.COM; TOWNHALL-TALK.EDMUNDS.COM;WWW.NISSANMURANO.ORG ) NISSAN REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, AND TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL, AND IS REQUIRING THE CONSUMER TO BEAR THE COST FOR THIS RECURRING FAILURE. A NISSAN TECHNICIAN, HIMSELF, HAS POSTED THIS ON THE TOPIC: "NISSAN TECH HERE! YOUR GOLD PREFERRED WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE SUN VISOR. 2003 NISSAN MURANO FAILS TO ACCELERATE INTERMITTENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN RANDOM FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS. NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR BUT NEVER WHEN TAKEN TO DEALER. *TR
TRANSFER CASE SEALS HAVE FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER HAVING BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER IN THE FALL OF 2008. AT APPROX. 60,000 MILES THIS CAR BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STALLING AT INTERSECTIONS, HIGHWAYS, AND INCLINES. I DRIVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. I BOUGHT IT USED IN 2005, IN THE LAST FEW YEARS I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP (WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY) THAT THE CAR WAS ALMOST STALLING OUT ON ME WHILE IN DRIVE. NISSAN TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SO NOTHING WAS REPAIRED. IN ON DECEMBER 3, 2009 I WAS LEAVING MY PARKING GARAGE AT WORK AND MY CAR STALLED OUT COMPLETELY; IT THEN TOOK 15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RE-START. AFTER THAT, I DROVE HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT AND ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST BAD GAS OR SOMETHING. TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING AT 50 MPH WHEN MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 7 YEAR-OLD IN THE CAR WITH ME. AFTER THAT, MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC ON 1/21, WHERE HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND THAT MY CRANK POSITION SENSOR AND CAM POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY MECHANIC ALSO FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 2003 MURANO FOR THAT REASON, AND HE TOLD ME TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO NISSAN SINCE I HAD REPORTED ISSUES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WAS A KNOW RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I TOWED MY CAR TO NISSAN THAT DAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE I WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND EVEN THOUGH I HAD REPORTED IT PRIOR TO EXPIRATION, THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I ALSO ADVISED THEM THAT I WAS FULLY AWARE OF THE RECALL. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT MY VIN WAS OFF BY THE LAST FOUR DIGITS AND BECAUSE OF THAT, AGAIN, THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL OR WARRANTY. I SAW ON MY SERVICE REPORT THEY PUT DOWN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND WAS LOW ON OIL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS A LIE. TOLD THEM TO REMOVE IT FROM THE REPORT. THEY REFUSED. NOW HERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM. I WAS ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY AND I LOST POWER. I RESTARTED THE SUV AND THE ENGINE PRODUCED A VERY LOUD RATTLING NOISE. I HAD IT TOWED TO NISSAN, SINCE THEY SERVICED THIS FROM WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD AND I LET THEM SERVICE TO PROTECT THE WARRANT AND THEY WOULD HAVE ALL THE RECORDS. WELL, THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. I WAS TOLD THEY HAVE PLASTIC GUIDES TO GUIDE THE TIMING CHAIN AND THESE WILL WEAR AND CAUSE THE CHAIN TO SLIP. THIS OCCURRED AT 83,000 MILES. NISSAN IS REFUSING TO HELP WITH THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE. THEY WANT $8600 FOR A NEW ENGINE. ON A 2003 IS ABSURD. A USED ENGINE WITH 60,000 MILES AND NO WARRANTY WILL COST $5600. I FEEL THE SERVICE MISDIAGNOSED MY PROBLEM, NEVER SEARCHED FOR THE REAL PROBLEM IN DEC. 09 AND FALSELY PUT ON THE REPORT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND IT WAS LOW ON OIL TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM ANY PROBLEMS SINCE DEC. AFTER FIGHTING WITH DEALER AND CORPORATE I CANCELED THE WARRANTY. THE UNCOVERED REPAIRS COST ME OVER $2500. THIS WAS A NISSAN BACKED EXTENDED WARRANTY. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO WAS ROCKING BACK AND FORTH, PARTICULARLY AROUND CURVES. THIS WEEK, THE LEFT BACK SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE. THE REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE SEAL AT A COST OF $1700, IT DIDN'T WORK, STILL LEAKED OIL. THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN SINCE THE FIRST SEAL WAS "UNDER WARRANTY" ABOUT A MONTH LATER, STILL DID NOT WORK. NOW, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT, I AM TOLD THE WHOLE TRANSFER CASE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE OFFERED TO DO SO FOR ANOTHER $800+ DOLLARS WITH NO LABOR CHARGE BUT THEY ALSO SEEM VERY RELUCTANT TO DO SO. STARTING IN MAY 2011, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK IS DOING THE SAME THING. I'M ALSO UNABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE THROUGH NEITHER OF THE FRONT DOORS AND HAVE TO ENTER THROUGH THE BACK DOORS TO UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE. STARTING IN NOVEMBER 2010 WHILE RAISING THE WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON, IT AUTOMATICALLY LOWERS ON IT'S OWN ON OCCASION. IT STOPS WHEN HALF OPEN. TO KEEP IT CLOSED, I HAVE TO INCH IT UP SLOWLY. AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE LOCK TO THE GAS CAP FAILED TO OPEN AROUND 40,000 MILES.
I OWN A 2003 NISSAN MURANO, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES. EACH TIME I BROUGHT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WAS WRONG. ON SATURDAY SEPT 26, 2009 AT 4:00 PM I WAS DRIVING MY NISSAN MURANO AND WITHOUT WARNING OR ANYTHING THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION ON THE FREEWAY, EVERYTHING STOPPED WORKING INCLUDING THE BREAKS. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS CAR HAS SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION. I CHECKED FOR RECALLS APPEARS SOME 2003 NISSAN MURANO'S WERE RECALLED BY NHTSA, BUT WHEN I WENT TO NISSAN THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL? I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE I'VE EXPERIENCED EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL ( 03V455000) IS INDICATING. I DON'T BELIEVE NISSAN RECALLED ALL THE CARS THEY SHOULD HAVE WITH THIS PROBLEM, OBVIOUSLY SINCE I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN NEED TO RECALL MY 2003 NISSAN AND ALL OTHERS ITS FAILED TO INCLUDE EITHER BY ERROR OR ON PURPOSE? I TRIED TO WORK WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA NO HELP AT ALL. A 2003 NISSAN MURANO HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED A FLOPPY SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND IS ABOUT TO ACQUIRE A FLOPPY VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO, THIS HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE MAINLY DUE TO THE DISTRACTION. THE DEALERS WANT AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT FOR THIS PART (300-400DOLLAR RANGE) WHEN THE ONLY THING A CUSTOMER HAS DONE IS BUY THE CAR (25,000-30,000). *TR
DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE OF MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO, WHICH HAS 33,293 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN NOTICED RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING FROM A HOSE THAT IS LOCATED BEHIND A FAN-BELT TENSION PULLEY. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRACKET ON WHICH THE PULLEY IS MOUNTED HAD FAILED CAUSING THE PULLEY TO BE PUSHED OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGING THE HOSE AND BELT, RESULTING IN A REPAIR COST OF $450.27. THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF REPLACING ALL THE EFFECTED COMPONENTS AT MY EXPENSE. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE "DEFECTIVE BRACKET" WAS REPLACED WITH AN IDENTICAL ITEM SHARING THE SAME DEFECTIVE QUALITIES. NISSAN WILL NOT DIVULGE THE REASON FOR THE BRACKETS FAILURE. MY CONCERN IS: IF THIS "PULLEY DEVISE" HAD BROKEN OFF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE BRACKET WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT SPEED, IT WOULD HAVE DONE INCALCULABLE DAMAGE ,POSSIBLY CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, PROBABLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER WHAT CAUSED THE BRACKET TO FAIL, HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW, BUT THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE THAT HE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WHEN HE DID. APPARENTLY, OTHER OWNERS WERE NOT SO FORTUNATE, THEIR CARS HAD TO BE TOWED AND THE DAMAGE WAS MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED I ASKED TO BE GIVEN THE DEFECTIVE AND DAMAGED PARTS AND NOW HAVE THEM IN MY POSSESSION. *TR
