TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ENGINE JERK THREE TIMES STALLED SLIDE AND LANDING INTO A TREE THEN STARTED TO SPIN AND FLIP OVER FIVE TIMES AND LANDED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER SON AND HIS FRIEND WHICH WAS THE FRONT PASSENGER WERE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER SON SUSTAINED SCARF TO THE FACE, HARMS AND LEGS, HIS LEGS WAS FRACTURE AND HIS SKIN WAS OFF HIS FACE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED BROKEN RIBS, DAMAGE LIVER AND A CRACK KNEECAP BOTH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, IT WAS STALLING AND THE ENGINE WAS JUMPING. I WAS DRIVING NISSAN MURANO ON A CITY STREET. THE "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AND PARKED. THEN IT HAD HARD TIME TO START. I KEPT HOLDING IGNITING AND STARTED THE CAR. THEN I DROVE TO GOODYEAR CAR SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME TO REPLACE CRANK SENSOR.

NISSAN MURANO 96" BEGAN LEAKING ENGINE OIL, WENT IN TO FIX UNDER A NISSAN WARRANTY. LEAK WAS NOT FIXED AND THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO LEAK. SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP, AUTOBARN NISSAN, DON MEKOOLA TOLD ME THESE ENGINES BEGIN LEAKING AT THIS POINT AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT EVEN OFFER ENOUGH ON A TRADE TO WHOLESALE THE MURANO. THAT TELLS YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. NISSAN USA WILL DO NOTHING AND THE DEALER WILL DO NOTHING. I HAD NO IDEA THE CAR WAS THIS BAD A SHAPE AND CONTINUED DRIVING IT. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, IT SOUNDED LIKE METAL WAS GRINDING THE VEHICLE FILLED WITH SMOKE, AND .COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER AS IT WAS UNABLE TO FUNCTION. AS SOON AS THE MECHANIC TURNED ON THE CAR HE STATED IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE. FROM MY RESEARCH THE TRANSFER CASE IS CONNECTED TO THE TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS THE FRONT AND REAR AXLES BY MEANS OF DRIVE SHAFT.THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE, IF I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A TERRIBLE CAR CRASH. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $3,800.00. THIS SIS RIDICULOUS. NISSAN SHOULD DO A RECALL ON THIS PART. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE IN THE SAME MAKE/MODEL AND YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE.SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE, NISSAN SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART ITS VERY DANGEROUS. FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID SHOULD RECEIVE A REFUND OR PARTIAL REFUND BECAUSE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT IS IN FACT A SAFETY ISSUE. MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO SE JUST RECENTLY PASSED 115,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A LACK OF POWER, SOME ODD/VARIOUS NOISES AND JUST RECENTLY SAW A PUFF OF SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST. SHORTLY AFTER, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD THE CODE VERIFIED AT ADVANCE AUTO. CATALYTIC SYSTEM FAILURE ON ONE OF THE BANKS. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH NISSAN VEHICLES UTILIZING THE VQ ENGINE AND TYPICALLY RESULTS IN BACKFLOW OF CATALYST MATERIAL INTO THE ENGINE WHICH IN TURN CAUSES CATASTROPHIC FAILURE TO THE PISTONS AND PISTON RINGS. REPLACEMENT OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IS HIGHLY DIFFICULT AND GENERALLY COSTS AROUND $2,500 AT A DEALER. PARTS ALONE WILL COST IN EXCESS OF $600 FOR AFTERMARKET AND $1,600 FOR OEM. THIS ISSUE GENERALLY HAPPENS BETWEEN 80K AND 120K MILES ON ALMOST EVERY ALTIMA, MAXIMA AND MURANO AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE FORUMS IN WHICH VARIOUS OWNERS DISCUSS THIS MATTER IN GRAVE DETAIL. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF THIS WILL HAPPEN TO THESE VEHICLES, IT IS A MATTER OF WHEN. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 1.5 YEARS AGO AND STILL OWE MUTLTIPLE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON IT.
