FOR A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE WITH 41,000 MILES. "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALER INFORMED ME THE PROBLEM IS A FAILED FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600. I HIT THE REAR END OF A VEHICLE THAT WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED. MY AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. MY FOREHEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
[FUEL LEVEL SENSOR] SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AUGUST 10, 2008, TWO CODES P0463(FUEL LEVEL SENSOR) AND P0420(CATALYTIC EFFICIENCY LOW). SHORTLY AFTER THIS; WHEN FILLING-UP THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD READ "E" AFTER SOME TIME IT WOULD READ CORRECTLY. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE THEN AND I'VE HAD OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS JAN. 27,2009 I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIX THE CAT., AND CANCEL THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, BUT THE DEALER HAD A HARD TIME LINK-UP WITH THE COMPUTER BECAUSE OF SOME SHORT IN THE SYSTEM CAUSED BY THE REAR VIEW MIRROR(COMPASS). THEY SAID THE CODE FOR THE BAD CAT. WAS COMPLETE AND NOT THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THE COMPUTER CAME UP WITH A P0507(IDLE SPEED CONTROL MOTOR). THE CODE P0463 DID NOT COME UP. AS SOON AS I LEFT THE DEALER I FILLED THE FUEL TANK. AND NOW THE GAUGE WENT TO "E" AND FUEL LIGHT IS ON THE DTE READS ----, AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON (I CALLED THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY AND TOLD OF THE PROBLEM). IT'S BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 3-DAYS IN A ROW. I HAVE TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER. *TR
MY FUEL GAGE IS NOT WORKING AND IT IS ESTIMATED TO ME THAT IT WILL COST $600 TO GET IT FIXED AND THE REAL BUMMER OF IT IS THAT I CANNOT GET MY NEW TAG REGISTRATION WHILE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I CAN KEEP UP WITH THE MILEAGE BUT IT IS A REAL PAIN IN THE NECK. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS THAT HAVE PATHFINDERS AND ARMADA THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES BUT THEIR WAS PAID FOR WITH THEIR WARRANTY. SINCE I DRIVE SO MUCH FOR WORK MINE IS NOT COVERED. ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS HAD TO BRING THEIR IN 5 DIFFERENT TIMES TO GET IT FIXED. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IF THEY ARE HAVING SO MANY ISSUES WITH IT. "I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. FUEL GAUGE READING IN 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER IS NOT WORKING FOR A SECOND TIME. *TR
SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 28,500 MILES ON MY 2005 PATHFINDER. SOON AFTER I NOTICED MY FUEL LIGHT CAME ON WITH MY FUEL GAUGE SHOWING EMPTY. I JUST FILLED IT WITH GAS PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. I THOUGHT SOMEONE STOLE MY GAS AND WAS GOING TO CALL THE POLICE. I TRIED PUTTING MORE GAS, BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY FULL. MY BOYFRIEND DROVE IT UP AND DOWN HILLS AND AFTER MAKING SOME SHARP TURNS, THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED TO GO UP AND THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE WENT TO THE HALF WAY POINT TODAY, ONCE AGAIN, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY FUEL GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY AGAIN! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD THAT TRAVELS WITH ME. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE! WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? PLEASE DON'T WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT OR EVEN DIES! *TR
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY FUEL GAUGE FOR MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE GAUGE ON MY DASH BOARD DOES NOT ACCURATELY REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT IS IN THE FUEL TANK. NO MATTER IF THE TANK IS FULL OR NOT THE GAUGE READS EMPTY 99% OF THE TIME. OCCASIONALLY THE GAUGE WILL READ AS IF THERE IS FUEL BUT THIS HAPPENS VERY RARELY. BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS AND HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN AROUND FOR ABOUT 20K MILES. CURRENTLY I AM AT ABOUT 88K MILES ON MY PATHFINDER AND BECAUSE OF THE MILES I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT, WHICH CAPS THE MILES AT 72K. *TR
FUEL GAUGE GIVES FAULTY READING SHOWING EMPTY MOST OF THE TIME RESULTING IN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CONSTANTLY AND UNABLE TO KNOW THE ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL. *TR
AT 58,000 MILES THE GAS GAUGE AND THE MILEAGE INDICATOR WOULD FLUCTUATE OR WOULDN'T WORK AT ALL. NOW AT 60,000 MILES THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. ONE MORNING I STARTED THE CAR AND THE GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY. WENT AND PUT GAS IN THE CAR AND $10 LATER IT WAS FULL. I DO BELIEVE THAT THE TWO ARE CONNECTED AND BASED ON MY READING ON THIS SITE THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT WOULD LIKE THE OWNERS TO FORK OUT $400 - $600 WHICH IN THIS ECONOMY I CAN'T AFFORD. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUSPENSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR STOPPED WORKING ON 2005 PATHFINDER AFTER NORMAL FILLUP. GAS GAUGE NO MARKS TOTAL EMPTY AFTER FILL UP AND WILL ACT ERRATIC AT TIMES. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING ON PATHFINDERS OF THE SAME AND MORE RECENT YEARS. NISSAN WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART FOR FREE WHICH COULD CAUSE A SAFETY HAZARD IF CAR SUDDENLY RUNS OUT OF GAS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 PATHFINDER THAT RECENTLY HAD THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, GAUGE STOP WORKING AS WELL. I'VE REPLACED THE GAS CAP WITH NO SUCCESS. I'VE RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND REALIZED THAT THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. I HAVE ABOUT 56,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. *TR
MY 2005 PATHFINDER'S FUEL GAUGE WAS WORKING CORRECTLY UNTIL ABOUT 60,000 MILES. I HAD ABOUT A QUARTER TANK OF GAS AND FILLED UP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE GAS GAUGE SAID THE TANK WAS EMPTY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED $600 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR AND SAID IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND SEEMS TO BE COMMON. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD THAT SHOULD BE FIXED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE. *TR
I HAVE CHANGED 2 CEPAIRATLOTAY COVERTER AT 8600 THEN 6 MOS LATER MY TARMISSIONS NEED TO BE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED
I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK AND IT DIDN'T REGISTER A FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED A MONTH AGO AND I WAS ALMOST 1,000 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY LIMITATION. SO BECAUSE OF THIS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM $400-$800, WHICH I DON'T HAVE WE'RE IN A RECESSION. ALSO WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO NURSING SCHOOL ONE MORNING THE 2005 PATHFINDER I WAS DRIVING JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDST OF MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN THE DEAD OF A COLD BLISTERING WINTER MORNING. LATER THAT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE WHO GAVE ME A PRINTOUT TO TAKE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE APPARENT IN THIS MODEL AS WELL AS OTHERS. AGAIN NISSAN WASN'T WILLING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I PRAY THAT YOU GUYS CAN HELP US NISSAN OWNERS WHO HAVE INVESTED OUR HARD EARNED MONEY INTO A VEHICLE OF THIS TYPE WHICH BY THE WAY ISN'T A CHEAP VEHICLE, TO ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM BY ASKING NISSAN TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE FAULTY PRODUCTS THAT THEY'RE SELLING SO THAT WE DON'T HAVE AN ADDITIONAL OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM THAT IS TRULY NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND PROBLEM BECAUSE MY VEHICLE DIDN'T PASS INSPECTION. SO PLEASE HELP US MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS WHO ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM GET CORRECTED THROUGH NISSAN ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO SINCE THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN OTHER MODELS AND PREVIOUS MODELS THEY SHOULD MAKE A BETTER PRODUCT OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS THEY OCCUR. NISSAN IS A REPUTABLE COMPANY AND UNLIKE OTHER AUTOMOBILE DEALERSHIPS THEY'RE DOING QUITE WELL SO THEY CAN AFFORD TO KEEP US AS CUSTOMERS HAPPY BY CORRECTING THEIR FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. *TR
ON 9/5/2008 I TOOK MY PATHFINDER TO GILES NISSAN IN LAFAYETTE, LA BECAUSE I EXPERIENCED SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. THERE WERE ALSO OCCASIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL WHEN THE GAS PETAL WAS PUSHED, ESSENTIALLY THE ENGINE WOULD "REV" UP BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. GILES NISSAN KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR SIX DAYS AND I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. AT THE TIME, MILEAGE WAS AT 51,425, WHICH WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN COVERED UNDER THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY. NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AT THIS POINT, AND IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED RIGHT THEN. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT AND SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, IN APRIL OF 2009, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED, AND I NO LONGER FELT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, AS IT WOULD STOP ACCELERATING ALTOGETHER, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I TOOK THE CAR TO LEBLANC NISSAN IN BATON ROUGE, WHERE THEY INFORMED ME I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION & RADIATOR, AND BY THIS TIME I WAS OVER THE 60,000/5 YEAR WARRANTY. THE ESTIMATE WAS APPROXIMATELY $7,000, AND WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD AFFORD TO PAY THIS MUCH MONEY, SO I TOOK MY PATHFINDER TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SPECIALIZING IN TRANSMISSION WORK. HE SUGGESTED THAT HE COULD REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND FLUSH THE RADIATOR ALTHOUGH HE WARNED I MAY STILL HAVE PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE (WHICH WAS TRUE). THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT I WOULD NEED TO GET A COMPLETE RADIATOR FLUSH TWO OR THREE MONTHS LATER TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO MORE LEAKAGE. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION WORK DONE TWO MORE TIMES, AND TO THIS DAY THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO SIP. NISSAN REFUSES TO REIMBURSE ANY MONEY WHATSOEVER. *TR

THERE WERE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION HAD A WHISTLE UP SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE TIRES WERE FEATHERED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS NEEDED, THE DOOR PANELS CREAKED, THE BRAKES MADE A CLICKING NOISE, THE DRIVE BELTS WERE REPLACED TWICE BECAUSE OF A NOISE THE CONSUMER HEARD, THE PLASTIC FINISHER ON THE RUNNING BOARDS KEPT POPPING OFF, THE STRUT ON THE REAR HATCH LEAKED DUE TO A POOR SEAL, THE TRANSFER CASE LEAKED, THERE WAS HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD, THE DEALER STATED IT FAILED DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE. THE REAR SHOCKS LEAKED, THE FRONT PINION SEAL AND OIL PINION SEAL WERE REPLACED AND THE REAR HATCH WINDOW LEAKED. *JB UPDATED 04/06/10.*JB

I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER XE 4WD. THE VEHICLE IS ISSUING OBD DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0463 INDICATING A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT. DOING A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE, I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PATHFINDER/X-TERRA/FRONTIER OWNERS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. ALSO, SOME WEBSITES INDICATED THAT THIS FAULT HAS OCCURRED ON PREVIOUS YEAR'S MODELS AND WAS RECALLED. HOWEVER, NO RECALL EXISTS FOR THE NEWER MODELS. THIS IS PLAINLY A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING FAULT WHICH SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER UNDER RECALL. A SAFETY ISSUE EXISTS BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE FUEL GAUGE TO MISREAD POTENTIALLY LEADING A DRIVER TO BECOME STRANDED W/O FUEL. ALSO, A POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD EXISTS AS THIS IS PART OF THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE ON HOW THE NHTSA PLANS TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION. NISSAN HAS EVEN COME OUT WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069A THAT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE, AND THE REPAIR BILL FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS OUT OF WARRANTY IS BETWEEN $400 AND $600. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED IF PEOPLE ARE RUNNING OUT OF GAS DUE TO INCORRECT OR NON-EXISTENT FUEL LEVEL READINGS. *TR

NISSAN HAS EVEN COME OUT WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069A THAT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE, AND THE REPAIR BILL FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS OUT OF WARRANTY IS BETWEEN $400 AND $600. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED IF PEOPLE ARE RUNNING OUT OF GAS DUE TO INCORRECT OR NON-EXISTENT FUEL LEVEL READINGS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THEY ORIGINALLY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, RESET THE CODE AND SENT US ON OUR WAY (NOT WITHOUT TRYING TO CHARGE US $40 DIAGNOSTIC FEE). AFTER A FEW HUNDRED MILES THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY TOLD US THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND WE'D HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT BACK AT THE TUNE OF OVER $1000. WE PURCHASED THE BEST WARRANTY PACKAGE YOU COULD GET AND IT COVERS EVERYTHING BUT THE AIRBAG SENSOR. WHY WOULD THEY SINGLE OUT THAT ONE THING TO NOT BE COVERED? *TR
THE DEALER POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS A BUZZING / WHINING NOISE COMING FROM ONE OR BOTH SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS AND CAMSHAFT SPROCKET AREAS. I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS AND BOTH SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS AT 61,000 MILES. COST: $2,148.00. HE DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REPAIR COST EXCEEDED $600. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 83,000.

I OWN A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND AT 81,500 MILES BEGAN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION VIBRATION WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 40-45 MPH. DURING THIS VIBRATION, MY ACCELERATION ABILITIES WERE LIMITED. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NISSAN INFORMING ME THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY OF MY 2005 PATHFINDER IS BEING EXTENDED BECAUSE 'A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY MIGHT OCCUR AT HIGHER MILEAGES LEADING TO INTERNAL LEAKAGE OF ENGINE COOLANT.' THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION HAVE SINCE BEEN REPAIRED AND NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO REIMBURSE THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. AS THE RADIATOR FAILURE AND AFFECTED TRANSMISSION IS A WELL KNOW ISSUE BY NISSAN AND THE NISSAN CONSUMER COMMUNITY, NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS TO REPAIR THE RADIATOR AND AFFECTED COMPONENTS.
