WHILE AT A FULL STOP AT A RED LIGHT, WITH NO VEHICLES TO MY RIGHT, THE REAR RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER WINDOW IN MY 2007 NISSAN PATHFINDER SUDDENLY EXPLODED OUTWARD. THERE WAS A FIST SIZED HOLE IN THE WINDOW, AND ENTIRE WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. ALL GLASS EXITED OUTWARD AND REMAINING GLASS WAS VISIBLY BOWED IN AN OUTWARD DIRECTION. THE DEALER (UNIVERSAL CITY NISSAN IN LOS ANGELES) FIRST CLAIMED THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A FAILURE BEFORE, THEN CONCEDED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR 2004 NISSAN MAXIIMA'S FOR SUNROOF EXPLODING OUTWARD. HOWEVER, THE DEALER SAID BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT "PROVE" TO THE FACTORY THAT THE EXPLOSION WAS DUE TO DEFECT, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. IF GLASS IS DEFECTIVE AND PRONE TO EXPLOSIVE BREAKAGE, PERSONS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF CAR, OR OTHER MOVING VEHICLES, COULD BE INJURED OR DAMAGED. *TR
I LIVE IN OKLAHOMA AND DRIVE DIRT ROADS DAILY. I PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN 2007 AND HAVE TWO CANISTERS REPLACED. I WAS NOT TOLD WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN ON DIRT ROADS BECAUSE THE CANISTER CLOGS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT. MY CONCERN: I HAVE 82,000 MILES ON THE CAR, MY EXTENDED WARRANTY RUNS OUT AT 100,000 MILES. I WILL DRIVE DIRT ROADS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, I WANT SOME SORT OF GUARANTEE THAT THE NEXT TIME THIS CANISTER FAILS (WHICH CAUSES THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON), THAT THE COST OF REPAIR WILL NOT BE ON ME. I DON'T FEEL THIS IS FAIR. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. IS THERE ACTUALLY A DESIGN FLAW AND CAN I HAVE SOME SORT OF GUARANTEE THAT NISSAN WILL STAND BEHIND THIS. SLOW SEATBELT ON DRIVER SEAT FAILS TO RETRACT. DEALER REFUSED TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE MALFUNCTIONING, BUT RATHER THAN FIX THEM UNDER WARRANTY, THE NISSAN DEALER AND NISSAN BOTH RECOMMENDED THAT I OVER-INFLATE THE TIRES TO 39 PSI, WHEN THE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE IS STATED AS 35 PSI ON BOTH THE DOOR FRAME STICKER AND THE MANUAL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT CAN LEAD TO DEATH AND INJURY. BOTH THE DEALER AND NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS FAILED TO STOP GIVING OUR THIS DANGEROUS RECOMMENDATION WHEN I ALERTED THEM TO THE DANGERS OF OVERINFLATED TIRES. MANY MOTORISTS IN DENVER MAY BE DRIVING ON OVERINFLATED TIRES AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF NISSAN AND THEIR DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT LEASED A 2007 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD POP NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SHE THEN SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND SHE HAD NOT STRUCK ANYTHING. SHE NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND IT HAS REMAINED ON SINCE THE INCIDENT. NISSAN INFORMED HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. WHEN DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY DOING ABOUT 60 MPH OUR VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN WHEN I WAS ABOUT 3 OR 4 MILES FROM HOME AROUND 8:40 PM. I STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE ENGINE SOUNDED OK BUT THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO GO VERY FAST. SINCE I HAD NO PHONE AND I AM HANDICAPPED AND UNABLE TO WALK VERY FAR AND HAD A LOT OF PERISHABLE FOOD TO CARRY AND MY WIFE AND 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I TRIED TO DRIVE HOME SINCE WE DON'T HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE. I BARELY MADE IT TO THE DRIVEWAY WHERE THE CAR SITS UNTIL I CAN GET A LOAN TO FIX OR BUY ANOTHER CAR. I ONLY HAVE 145,000 MILES ON THE CAR, I USUALLY GET 300 TO 400 THOUSAND MILES BEFORE I GET RID OF THEM.. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL AND I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP. I AM PRETTY SURE IT'S THE TRANSMISSION BUT UNTIL I GET FUNDS I CANNOT PUT IT IN THE SHOP OR REPLACE IT.THIS IS FRIDAY THE DAY AFTER THE BREAKDOWN.
RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING TRANSMISSION DAMAGE, REQUIRING A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE AND HAS NOT NOTIFIED CUSTOMERS TO FIX THIS PRIOR TO THE PART FAILING TO PREVENT MAJOR DAMAGE. THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 85K MILES FOR THAT PART, BUT IT NEEDS TO FAIL FOR THEM TO COVER THE REPAIR. I COULD HAVE REPLACED THE PART FOR AROUND $400 PREVENTING THE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION, IF NISSAN WOULD HAVE TOLD ITS CUSTOMERS. NOW I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR $4000 AND RENT A CAR FOR ONE MONTH AT $800. THE DAMAGE OCCURRED WHEN I WAS DRIVING. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. IT TOOK SO LONG TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
NISSAN 2003 PATHFINDER LE I WAS ALLOWING MY PATHFINDER TO WARM, THE TEMPERATURE WAS LOW THAT MORNING. DEPRESSING THE BRAKE I MOVED TO THE FIRST GEAR WHICH IS REVERSE NEEDING TO PUT IT IN DRIVE, WHICH IS THE THIRD GEAR DOWN. AS IT WAS PUT INTO REVERSE THE VEHICLE STARTING TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE UNCONTROLLABLY I TRIED TO PUT IT INTO PARK AGAIN AND THE GEAR WOULD NOT MOVE I LET OFF THE BRAKE A LITTLE TO SEE IF IT WOULD RELIEVE THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION. AND THAT'S WHEN MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY STILL IN REVERSE. I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE AND IT WOULD NOT STOP IN INSTINCT I DIDN'T WANT TO HIT A BIG TREE SO I STEERED INTO A GROUP OF SMALL TREES HITTING A TREE THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITH THE VEHICLE STILL ACCELERATING FORWARD IN REVERSE GEAR. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED HITTING ME IN THE FACE AND RIGHT SIDE AND THE CAR QUIT RUNNING. MY HUSBAND WAS UNSURE AND NOT CONVINCED OF MY ACCOUNT OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED UNTIL MY BROTHER-IN-LAW TOLD HIM THAT THE PATHFINDER WAS STILL IN REVERSE GEAR THAT WHILE REMOVING THE THINGS OUT MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS BEING TAKEN CARE OF. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED $12,00.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE AND CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MEDICAL BILLS FOR X-RAYS, CT SCANS FOR DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT SIDE. WE HAVE NOT SETTLED AND WILL NOT UNTIL WE FIND OUT WHAT WENT WRONG. I AM SCARED TO BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AUTO. *JB
IGNITION SYSTEM DEACTIVATED BY THE SECURITY SYSTEM OR BY INTERMITTENTLY FAILING KEY TRANSPONDER CHIP RESULTING IN INTERMITTENT FAILURE TO START. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER EXAMINING WHAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENGINE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD MIXED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE OIL COOLER INSIDE THE RADIATOR THAT CAUSED THE VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL THAT CONTROLS STARTING AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY TRANSMISSION SHOP FOR A COMPETE OVERHAUL INCLUDING A NEW VALVE BODY. COST OF REPAIRS TOTAL WAS 3074.00 DOLLARS. TRANSMISSION SHOP INSTALLED AN EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER AND STATED THEY WERE HAVING TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS ON A NUMBER OF THESE NISSANS FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR
NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE UNIT GIVING INACCURATE READINGS DUE TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. *NJ THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER FELT THE POSSIBILITY OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
