NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Nissan Rogue. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The seat has been repaired at a Nissan two or three times and still the motor on the seat just stops working so it will not go forward or backward. Regarding the auto braking system, the camera or car will seem something in front of me and will auto brake, a hard brake, but there won’t be anything in front of me.
While driving on the highway, when I attempted to break the car did not stop. The warning lights came on and the vehicle hesitated but still would not stop. I then had to swerve the best I could to the right, but my car still hit the corner of the car in front. This is the third incident with the ABS, but the only one resulting in an accident. The dashboard reads system malfunction. The vehicle is currently in possession of the insurance company.
Driver side door will not open when interior level is pulled, button is depressed, or the black toggle button behind the handle will not allow the door to open at all. This is very scary!!! Car is parked position, vehicle is turned off. Door wont open even if you try to push it. Turned the car on after 5 minutes, took three tries to get the door open! Called Nissan 3/13/26 approx 9:30 am [XXX] ) to see if there was a recall or what to do as this is a safety issue. Told to take the car to the dealer. This is the second time this has happened in a month. The first time I thought it was an isolated event in FEbruary. No accident or injury to report INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
There are two issues with my 2019 Nissan Rogue - 1. Parasitic drain - Battery dies if the car isn’t operated for 5 days. 2- Door Lock Actuator - Door Lock Actuator on the driver side door has failed and doesn’t work through the remote. A key has to be inserted in the car or manually locked for it to be locked.
Driving and smelled a strong odor of burning rubber and engine started to make a strange noise, causing engine to stop then hesitate and jump .
While driving the automatic brake stopped the car while turning in a curve. However in another incident I was cut off and brakes did not automatically stop. The brakes works when they want too. Not reliable or safe. Separately, the steering wheel randomly squeaks while turning. It doesn't do it often, every other month or so I will hear the speaking sound.
IN THE PAST MONTH THE CAR AUTOMATIC BRAKING HAS STOPPED THE CAR WHILE IN TRAFFIC 3 TIMES. FORTUNATELY IT HAPPENED ON SIDE ROADS TRAVELING AT 35 TO 40 MPH. I CHECKED THE EMBLEM AND WINDSHIELD CAMERA FOR DEBRIS THAT MIGHT BE COVERING THOSE AREAS AND THEY WERE GENERALLY CLEAN AND DID NOT LOOK LIKE IT WOULD CAUSE THE SENSOR TO STOP THE CAR. I AM CALLING NISSAN DEALERSHIP CLOSE TO HOUSE TO SEE IF THEY WILL UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AS PER (TSB NTB19-033G). IF THEY PERFORM THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE AND PROBLEM PERSISTS I WILL FILE ANOTHER REPORT HERE AS AN UPDATE TO MY SITUATION.
Vehicle randomly (twice in past 5 weeks) stops while driving. Fortunately it was on side roads with no vehicles close behind me. There is supposed to be a software update that is free of charge per (TSB NTB19-033G). But my local nissan dealerships won't do that without a full service diagnostic and road test. Problem is it is so random that issue will not happen while they have the vehicle and they will give the vehicle back to me without a fix or software update and hand me a big bill for fixing nothing. Guess I have to turn that feature off each time I start it until I can get rid of said vehicle. Thanks for nothing Nissan. It's always about money and not our safety.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started lurching forward and hesitating as if the vehicle would shut off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that on another occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to exceed 60 MPH. The vehicle was pulled off the highway, and the gear shifter was shifted to reverse(R), but the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
My car has about 61,000 miles and gas been properly maintained with routine oil changes and such. At around 60,000 miles the car started jerking up on the freeway when I was driving at 20mph due to traffic. The accelerator would also jump up from 1 to 2 quickly. The issue became worse and now there's problems with the car driving forward when I turn it on and select D. I press the gas and it takes a few seconds for it to start driving. No issues with reverse. A diagnostic found that the cars transmission overheats quickly.
Driver’s side door no longer locks and unlocks without physical use of the manual key. Car did not experience damage. The locking actuator stopped working randomly and has not worked, resulting in the car being unknowingly unlocked and subsequently broken into.
Brakes automatically stop car.
The car will lock while the key is inside. It also has a security issue that would prevent the car from starting if you lock the doors when you are inside and shut the engine off. Lastly now press lock and unlock will make the car beeps until you unlock it with the fob .
constant issue with key fob not registering to car even after replacement of battery from dealership, now my car is not allowing me to lock the front passenger and driver side doors with any buttons but will still set alarm. when backing up my car will stop automatically even when nothing in the way nothing in the camera or on the camera, same when pulling forward it will stop out of no where showing nothing in the way. this caused a problem when i parked and it rolled forward and tore my bumper on the curb. the windows are touchy if they want to roll up some days. called nissan they said there isn’t any recalls looked online this isnt the first time nissan has heard about the electrical problems yet refuse to do anything
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that there was a burn hole on the front passenger’s side head restraint. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while in the process of adding the vehicle to the insurance policy, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 65,298, and while the vehicle was being added to the insurance policy, it was discovered that the mileage on the Carfax report was 217,111.
The CVT transmission in my 2019 Nissan Rogue failed unexpectedly at approximately 45,000 miles, just one year after the factory warranty expired. I first noticed issues on July 4, 2025, when the vehicle began hesitating and jerking in idle and occasionally during acceleration. On Monday, July 7, I drove it to a certified Nissan dealership for inspection, and during that drive, the check engine light came on. The dealership confirmed complete transmission failure. There were no warning lights or messages prior to July 7. The failure made the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially when merging onto highways or crossing intersections. The quoted repair cost was $6,500, which was unaffordable, forcing me to purchase a new Nissan vehicle instead. Nissan declined to offer any goodwill assistance despite the low mileage and known history of CVT issues in similar models.
I have owned this vehicle since it was new and the collision sensor light would occasionally blink when the weather was cold, damp or foggy. My Nissan tech told me not to worry about it as long as the car was not braking without necessity. About a month ago, the collision sensor light was blinking and shortly thereafter, the front radar (collision avoidance) sensor malfunctioned, warning lights and sound occurred and the AEB system deployed and car was stopped abruptly. There was no traffic and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I placed the car in park and then in drive and car was back to normal operation. Several days later the lane departure warning occurred for no reason but the car did not shut down. I took the car to Dick Smith Nissan, St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC for service. They replaced the collision sensor for a cost of $2300.00. I called Nissan customer service, received a complaint number ([XXX]) but was told there was nothing Nissan could or would do. This is a problem occurring in many Nissan models over several years. Some of these malfunctioning sensors have been replaced under warranty. Others are part of class action suits in several states. I believe some models have been the subject of recalls. Nissan will not admit that there is a flaw in these sensors and it is a safety issue if the vehicle stalls in heavy traffic or on the interstate. I was lucky that I when my car stalled, I was in town with no traffic and was able to pull off the road. I’m hoping replacing the sensor has solved my problem but it was costly. NTSB should be aware of this safety issue and document incidents regarding these collision sensors. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
1)Backup Camera freezes. I need to pause the car and wait a minute then it will restart. This happens a couple of times a week. 2)Also, there have been several times when going down a hill, my forward collision warning light and sound goes off and it feels like a light emergency brake is applied. (though the dealer told me that I did not have the automatic emergency braking). This occurs for about 2-3 seconds and then stops on it's own. I have never seen anything in the road that would set this off. This has happened about 4 times within the last 6 months or less.
Our 2019 Nissan Rogue SV crash warning light came on the instrument cluster, also it stopped letting me know when I was going over the lane. The warning sign is still coming on and will not turn off. The button switch on left section on the steering wheel do not functioning. After a diagnostic test it was shown to be the forward collision warning (FCW). I understand that this seems to be a problem with this particular type of vehicles and it has been reported many times but no recall have been initiated, I feel very unsafe driving it, it is estimated the cost to repair this problem is about $2600.
Vehicle was issuing a judder feeling, and it had lack of power to the gas pedal at times. The check engine light ended up coming on for P0101 (mass air flow sensor). Dealer replaced the mass air flow sensor and cleared the code. Said they test drove it without any issues. After picking up the vehicle, it was within 10 min, the judder was being felt. Then taking the exit and slowing, I felt the lack of power to the gas pedal. Dealership was called instantly and did a further inspection. Advised that the code P17F2 was coming up and I needed a new transmission.
Had this car for 2 years no issues. Now all sudden when it rains alittle. An I drive my car an go to back up it slams it breaks on me. I took to Nissan dealership in Johnstown told them what was going on and she told me that it had dirty in the sensor. Ok could have been. Well now everytime it rains I have issues an when I back up it slams it brakes. I have got stuck in the middle of the road several times. I’m either gonna get hit or hit someone an Nissan is pretty telling me there is nothing wrong with my car
Dash-Side Harness Connector Wiring Corroded. Warning Lights Appear on Dash. Vehicle will not start
This system will activate on its own with no warning
The factory-installed roof rails on my 2019 Nissan Rogue are severely corroding and structurally deteriorating. The metal is visibly oxidizing, flaking, and breaking apart. Portions of the roof rail appear to be separating and losing structural integrity. This corrosion is occurring under normal use and typical Midwest weather exposure, with no misuse, accidents, or modifications. The vehicle has not been exposed to extreme environments or chemicals that would reasonably cause this level of degradation. Safety Concern: The roof rails are a structural exterior component designed to secure roof racks and cargo. Due to the corrosion and material failure, there is a significant safety risk that: Roof-mounted cargo or crossbars could detach while driving Metal fragments could break off and become road debris The failure could occur at highway speeds, posing a danger to other vehicles and pedestrians This issue represents a potential design, material, or manufacturing defect rather than normal wear. Corrosion of this severity should not occur on a relatively modern vehicle. I am concerned this may affect other Nissan Rogue vehicles of similar model years and warrants investigation. Photos documenting the corrosion and deterioration are attached. Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue for potential safety defects related to roof rail corrosion and structural failure on the 2019 Nissan Rogue. The door Actuators on both sides of car do not work properly when you press the lock button on the remote the doors don't lock the actuator prevents locks from opening and closing the doors thus, you think your vehicle is locked but it isn't locked. The trunk closes immediately after it goes up in the open position causing a risk for someone to hit his/her head as the trunk closes immediately after opening.
issues with false activations of emergency braking, nissan acknowledges issues in technical service bulletins but doesn't feel is enough to create a recall or special coverage even tho is a major safety issue, imagine it happening on the highway, which read it has and there is a semi behind you, could result in death very easily. brakes will randomly lock up the car to a dead stop out of nowhere and flash bunch of warning lights. have a friend with a nissan car that did same thing and caused a major accident with injuries. i am a certified master technician and i find this very concerning and needs to be addressed. will be having an independent mobile programmer update the software which isnt listed for 2019s in the technical service bulletin only for 17-18. and hope that it never happens again, but that will all be out of pocket.
I have a 2019 Nissan rogue. I was driving on the freeway and my emergency breaks went off for no reason. The car in front of me was more than 50 feet away. Thankfully we were in moderate traffic and the car behind me was able to swerve to avoid rear ending me. I searched online and other rogue owners have had the same problem. Nissan needs to recall the AEB system in these cars. I am glad I have a dash cam and was able to record the incident. I don’t feel safe driving my car knowing this is a common problem.
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AND COMING TO A FOUR WAY INTERSECTION THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED AND MOMENTARILY APPLIED THE BRAKES. THIS DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT WAS BRIEF. IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF I WERE ON ICE, OR TURNING, OR SEVERAL OTHER SITUATIONS. tHE DEALERSHIPS I CALLED SAID THEY NEW OF NO SUCH PROBLEMS WITH TIS MODEL.YET IT'S A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. THE WARNING LAMP CAME ON AFTER THE INCIDENT AND COMES ON OFTEN. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CHECKED BY A DEALER SINCE THEY SAY IT IS NORMAL AND WANT TO CHARGE TO CHECK IT OUT.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while attempting to make a turn, the transmission inadvertently downshifted and the accelerator pedal was inadvertently depressed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed by the dealer that the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The dealer recommended to the manufacturer that the gear shift lever be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer approved the recommendation by the dealer and the contact was informed that the shift gear lever would be replaced. The contact also was informed by the dealer that parts for the gear shift leaver were not available and were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,200.
Vehicle made high pitch whine noise from park to drive and reverse to drive and nuetral to drive can be heard on left driver side and slow upon acceleration. It feels boggy. When the sound initially started I took the vehicle to el cajon nissan where I was told there was no sound and they were unable to duplicate and that there was no code. When taken to kearney messa nissan in April of 2024 they diagnosed as cvt issue and replaced the transmission. I provided them with multiple videos of the vehicle making the sound. After the replacement the noise ceased and the acceleration was much quicker and smoother. As of now, the vehicle has begun making the sound again and is boggy. I have provided nissan with videos and have taken the car on a test drive and the technician did hear the sound but admitted it was faint according to him. I received a text from the technician today 11/26/24 stating the car was great and they drove it multiple times and heard no noise and experienced no power loss. But my car continues to have trouble accelerating and this continues to endanger me and others on the road. I am happy to provide the videos of the sound upon request.
Twice the auto braking system has engaged when there was no obstacle to prompt it. Additional electrical issue as well- not recognizing fob and continually dropping the fob pairing.
The fuel temperature sensor is faulty. The car is no longer under warranty but is only 31k miles, the fuel temperature sensor can be purchased by itself so the entire fuel pump has to be replaced and they’re very expensive.I know this is a common problem with this temperature sensor. Also the electronic emergency button stopped working about 2 years ago.
Car would not accelerate and stopped in mid traffic this has continued to happen and nissian takes no responsibility. After the car goes to the shop the same things happen to it again they never fix the issue
Twice in the past week (9/11 & 9/14), the AEB has engaged while I was driving (forward) despite NO vehicles/objects/people obstructing the path. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. There was no beeping, no lights on the dashboard, or any other warnings prior to the AEB just abruptly stopping my car. Luckily I wasn't on the highway or going very fast because otherwise it would be EXTREMELY dangerous (whiplash, getting rear-ended, serious injury or death of myself or other driver(s), etc.). I took it to Nissan of Downtown LA to be looked at 9/14/24 with a 12PM appointment, but they were rude, not accommodating, and ultimately did not inspect it ("The mechanics are all probably at lunch, and it's late now anyway. We close at 4pm.") I told them specifically what the issue was and that it did not seem safe to just be driving around. Apparently Rogues are infamous for these AEB problems and have been recalled before, but not the 2019s. Entered the VIN on KBB and no recalls currently.
I was driving my daughter to school and started hearing a crunching noise, mostly when I turned or stopped. It also sounded like rattling. Once I got to my daughters school the noise became extremely loud and there was a loud bang and smoke coming from behind my car. It smelled burnt. A piece of my car had broken from underneath. After my husband looked at the car he found it to be the rear differential that exploded from under my car. I had the vehicle towed to my house because its not safe to drive. What I am most am concerned about is there was no warning or light that came on to indicate I had a issue with my car that required servicing.
Driver side door look slips and does not lock fully creating a life and safety issue for our families Rogue. This problem was addressed by Nissan in 2015 only, (vehicles manufactured June 5, 2015, to June 13, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the driver side front and rear doors may not fully latch. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, Door Locks and Door Retention Components."") but this is still an issue and I am having the same problem in my 2019 Rogue. Not sure why Nissan is not willing to fix the problem in additional Rogue years since this is still a life and death issue for the safety of the drivers.
AES went off when nothing was around multiple times and has caused my car to lock up the steering wheel, breaks, gas and gear shift causing me to not have any control of my car as the car took over. Due to the automatic brake system went off it cost me to have an accident and ruin my car. Nissan said that they fixed this issue but I have had multiple incidents in the past I have had it break in the middle of oncoming traffic thank God there was no one around there was no accident then. And then it happenee in May of this year and the AES broke my brake system when there was no reason for the AES to come on. July I had gotten into a crash due to the AES again and the Airbag didn't deploy when in a crash.
When driving taking off from a stand still. My Rogue is giving me hesitation. And try’s to stall when accelerating Then it starts to jerk real hard and dies sometimes it doesn’t take off from the light. Also the car starts breaking out of nowhere causing to a sudden stop. I’ve had this car less than 2years now I do not feel safe driving it at all.
I was driving and suddenly the gas pedal gave out my vehicle never shut off but would not accelerate even with trying to floor the pedal. Then it jolted off into traffic and the gas pedal went right back out within 45 seconds and glided into a parking spot. It took me 3 hrs to find a mechanic to come to me because it was after business hours and there were NO LIGHTS on the dash and engine was running extremely quiet code P0776 was what his computer said and nissan dealers and other mechanics all are saying I need a new transmission. The vehicle is jolting on and off coming out of parking spots hesitant on acceleration. Another mechanic didn't pull up any new codes just previous codes and as I've said there has never been a light on my dash and I get regular fluid changes filters tires etc, I was told the alternator is losing voltage it should be at 14 or better and mines was at 13. I don't even know where to begin seeing as though there are no lights ever on my dash and I've had my truck for almost 4 years and now it's a guessing game.
Passenger seat belt is hard to latch and hard to unlatch. Feels like something is stuck.
I was driving and all of a sudden my 2019 Nissan Rogue jerked forward and slowed down in mid traffic. The dashboard lit up with warnings and the vehicle began to idle up over 2 RPM's. Luckily there wasn't much traffic coming, otherwise I would have been in an automobile accident. It really scared me when that happened. I had to pull over and get myself together before pulling back out in traffic to get home.
Automatic Emergency Braking system error codes keep randomly coming on and the vehicle brakes on its own while driving. I’ve already had the sensor replaced previously.
Water is leaking onto floor board on passenger side. No plugs are clogged.
The door latch for the fuel does not open when pushing the button for the fuel, I have been stalled on multiple occasions stuck sitting waiting for the latch to finally open. The last time I pulled into a dealership in Conroe Texas they said the solenoid valve was broken and I would have to pop off something on the inside to access the lid to get it to open. I bought this SUV [XXX] and have had issues for at least the last 6 months and told different things - this latest is to google or you tube the issue. I myself feel like it is a safety hazard never knowing when the door will open INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving and no other cars or objects around, emergency beeper notification sounded, all dashboard panel lights went red and emergency brakes engaged without warning in the middle of road at approximately 35mph causing vehicle to come to a sudden stop without warning
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the passenger’s side front door failed to unlock and lock with the key fob. The lock also failed to lock with the inside lock button intermittently. The contact stated that the alarm indicated that the doors had been unlocked with an audible sound; however, over time, the alarm failed to activate. The failure had become more persistent over time. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the door lock mechanism was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where it was confirmed the repair was not covered under warranty or recall. A case was filed with the manufacturer regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 41,400.
Sunroof exploded without any external actions. Driving on interstate no other vehicles around and heard a loud bang, then wind noise from roof.
I was driving at 45 miles coming off the highway and the vehicle just hit the brake and screeched so loud into it stopped i was so scared idk what even happened the vehicle was still on drive but wouldn’t accelerate or move it said warning ️ malfunction. I had to shut it off then back on once i did that everything went clear in the dash like nothing happened. On my way back home i was so scared w a 2 yr old in the back it happens again. I went into panic mode had an ashma attack and whip lash went to the ER thank God it wasn’t worse. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALLL IN THIS VEHICLE PLSSSS FIND OUT THE ISSUES AND MAKE THE RECALL.
While driving in a parking structure, at around 15-20 MPH, the automatic emergency braking went on and brought the vehicle to an unsafe stop. Luckily no one was right behind the vehicle. The automatic emergency brake light came on at the same time. This is a safety hazzard in that the system can just engage without cause. In the parking structure, there is a chance of being reaer-ended and hurt. If this happened on a highway or at a faster speed, injury or death could occur. I have seen online that there have been concerns about this happening in this model Rogue. i will be communicating with the Nissan company also.
