THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CV AXLE LOCATED ON THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD YET TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
SHACKLE ON RIGHT SIDE PEELED OFF THE FRAME STUD AND DROVE THE SPRING AND SHACKLE ASSEMBLY THROUGH THE TRUCK BED
WENT IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED OF A REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN THAT IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH NISSAN TITANS AND MORE SPECIFICALLY THE 2004 NISSAN TITANS. *BF *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,000.

WHILE REPLACING LIFETIME WARRANTIED SUSPENSION WHICH WAS NOT HONORED BY NISSAN OR TENNECO, I FOUND THE REAR PINION SEAL TO BE LEAKING SEVERELY, AND REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING IN WHEEL ASSEMBLY. POSSIBLE SOURCE OF "TICKING" NOISE FROM DIFFERENTIAL, WHICH UNTIL THEN I THOUGHT WERE EXHAUST HEAT SHIELDS. THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC DRIVETRAIN FAILURE WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE FLUID LEAKING FROM AXLE SEAL CAN REDUCE EFFECTIVENESS OF BRAKING COMPONENTS. OTHER OWNERS HAVE DESCRIBED INADEQUATE ENGINEERING & POSSIBLE USE OF SUBSTANDARD DIFFERENTIAL MATERIALS & COMPONENTS ALONG WITH AXLE VENT ASSEMBLIES WHICH COULD CREATE INTERNAL PRESSURE CONDITIONS THAT COULD CAUSE SEALS TO FAIL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED AT THE DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE, THE DEALER NOTICED THAT BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE DAMAGED. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE DAMAGE OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH OCCURRING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER: 10E019000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH AND NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEALS AND THE GEAR BOX WERE LEAKING AT THE BRAKE CYLINDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE REAL DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD RETURN HIS CALL AT A LATER DATE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SPEAK WITH THE MANUFACTURER FOR TWO WEEKS BUT THEY WOULD NOT RETURN HIS CALL. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHO STATED THE REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK WAS VERY COMMON. THE DEALER STATED THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPLACE THE REAR AXLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

THE REAR UNIVERSAL JOINT HAS FAILED. I TOOK TO THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION ON OR ABOUT 9/2/10 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE U-JOINT HAD 3 BIG PIECES OF METAL LAYING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE HOUSING. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HUBLER NISSAN IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THE PREVIOUS FINDINGS. HUBLER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE REAR AXLE. THE APPROX. COST WOULD BE $2,500-$3,000. *TR
WHILE LOADING TRUCK FOR A VACATION TRIP, I NOTICED A LARGE BULGE COMING UP THROUGH THE TRUCK BED IN THE LEFT REAR PORTION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE LEFT REAR SHACKLE HOLDING HOLDING THE LEAF SPRING TO THE FRAME SNAPPED IN HALF. THE TRUCK IS A GARAGE KEPT, 35,000 MILE LIMITED PERSONAL USE VEHICLE. IF I HAD NOT BEEN GOING AWAY, THE SPRING WOULD HAVE PUSHED ITS WAY THROUGH THE BED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE RIGHT SIDE REAR SPRING HANGER FAILED MAY 18, 2010 AND THE LEFT SIDE REAR SPRING HANGER FAILED JUNE 6, 2010. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HANGERS BUT NOT WITH A STRONGER ONE. THE CONTACT WAS AFRAID THE HANGERS MIGHT FAIL AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST IN REPAIRS AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,462. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,168.
