TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN VEERED OFF THE ROAD, CRASHED INTO A PINE TREE, AND FLIPPED OVER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT SNAPPED AS THE VEHICLE FLIPPED. THE CONTACT AND OTHER DRIVER WERE BOTH EVALUATED AT THE SCENE. THE CONTACT LATER SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR A BROKEN ARM. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY TOWED TO A TOW YARD AND THEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH OR THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 256,000.

WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS OFF WHEN THERE IS AN ADULT PASSENGER PRESENT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. IF THE PASSENGER BOUNCES AROUND ON THE SEAT THE LIGHT MAY GO OFF AND IT MAY COME ON RANDOMLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE AIR BAG LIGHT MAY INDICATES THE AIR BAG IS OFF AT ANY TIME IT FEELS LIKE IT. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON FOR THE LIGHT GOING OFF OR ON. IF THE AIR BAG IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE THEN THIS TYPE OF A PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED ASAP. THANK YOU

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SODA BOTTLE UNPLUGGED THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH IN RAINY CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE FISHTAILED THE CONTACT STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HER VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. SHE SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES TO HER NECK, BACK, AND ABDOMEN AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SITE AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY THEN TOWED IT TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE DEALER HAS NOT YET BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT APPEAR TO FULLY DEPLOY. SHE BELIEVED THAT IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE CORRECT SIZE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED; HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY UNTIL 15 MINUTES AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THERE WAS NO PASSENGER IN THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAG INDICATOR WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE AND WAS TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DAMAGED THE DASHBOARD AND SMASHED THE WINDSHIELD. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 1,600.

WHEN THE LIGHT IS DIM IT INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG IS NOT ACTIVATED. THE DEALER REPAIRED A LOOSE WIRE AND ANOTHER DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED.
