A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was diagnosed with a crack in the filter flange informed the contact was informed that the filter flange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V576000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 135,000.

The contact stated that the dealer retrieved the vehicle from the residence to perform the recall repair; however, the dealer confirmed that they were unable to access the fuel pump and fuel filter due to the corroded locking collars. The contact stated that after receiving the vehicle from the dealer, a fuel odor was detected while exiting the vehicle. Additionally, there was gasoline leaking underneath the rear driver's side tire onto the ground while the contact was at the gas station to refuel. The vehicle was towed to the residence. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM PORSCHE 11/29/17. AS OF 3/28/18 PORSCHE STILL HASN'T SENT PARTS TO THE DEALERSHIPS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IN TURN THIS EFFECTS ME BECAUSE THE PORSCHE DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT PURCHASE A CALL W/ A SAFETY RECALL. UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS FIXED, I CANNOT SELL MY CAR. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM PORSCHE (AH10 PORSCHE SAFETY RECALL) FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FILTER FLANGE OF FUEL PUMP. THE LETTER WAS DATED 14NOV2017. ON 28NOV2017 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AT NO COST TO ME. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE NEWLY DESIGNED PART, SO HE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE FILTER FLANGE (WHICH HAD BEEN LEAKING FUEL), REPLACED IT WITH A NEW PART, BUT STILL UNDER THE RECALLED DESIGN, AND CHARGED ME FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL STATED THE REPAIR WOULD BE DONE AT NO EXPENSE TO VEHICLE OWNERS. THEN IN AUGUST 2018, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE NEWLY DESIGNED PARTS WERE DELIVERED, AT WHICH POINT I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE RECALLED PART WAS REMOVED WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED FILTER FLANGE INSTALLED. THIS WAS COMPLETED ON 08AUG2018 AND ON 09AUG2018 I COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK THAT PORSCHE ASKED ME TO COMPLETE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE NOVEMBER 2017 REPAIR WORK. THE PROCESSING OF THIS PAPERWORK WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE 6-10 WEEKS. IT IS NOW 21 WEEKS AND COUNTING, I HAVE CONTACTED PORSCHE AND THEIR PROCESSING AGENT (GCG), BUT NEITHER IS ABLE TO TELL ME THE STATUS OF THE CLAIM OR WHO IS WORKING ON IT OR WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE PROCESSING OF MY CLAIM. I'M OUT OF POCKET $1500 FOR OVER A YEAR ON A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE NO COST TO THE VEHICLE OWNER DUE TO A DANGEROUS DESIGN, WHICH HAD INDEED BEEN LEAKING FUEL AND WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO A DEADLY FIRE.

STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE EVIDENT ON DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEN STATIONARY OR EVEN NOT RUNNING AND PARKED . RESEARCH ONLINE WITH THE SEARCH CRITERIA OF "GASOLINE SMELL ON DRIVER SIDE REAR" PRODUCED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND QUESTIONS ON THIS PHENOMENON. THE CULPRIT IS THE FUEL PUMPS/FILTERS/SEALS FOR THE TWO GASOLINE TANKS. THEY ARE MAKE FROM PLASTIC AND ARE PRONE TO CRACKS OR LEAKS FROM FULL TANKS. ONE PORSCHE PARTS SUPPLIER PUT IT THIS WAY ON THEIR DIY REPAIR PAGE "THE QUESTION IS NOT IF, BUT WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM." THE SOLUTION IS TO TAKE OUT THE REAR SEATS, CUT THE CARPET, REMOVE THE SEAT BELT ANCHORS, REMOVE THE COVER UNDER THE CARPET TO ACCESS THE PUMPS AND FILTER. THIS IS A PROBLEM PORSCHE MUST KNOW ABOUT AS THEY HAVE CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE PUMP PARTS.
