THE VEHICLE'S AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM SUDDENLY FAILED DURING DRIVING. THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM CONTROLS THE RIDE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE RIDE HEIGHT ALSO IMPACTS THE VEHICLE'S STEERING ALIGNMENT. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE ISSUE IS THAT THE NITROGEN AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM PERFORMS A SELF-CHECK UPON START-UP AND PURGES A SMALL VOLUME OF AIR AND INGESTS OUTSIDE AIR, WHICH CONTAINS MOISTURE. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, THIS MOISTURE GETS INTO THE SUSPENSION'S COMPRESSOR, AND CAUSES PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO FREEZING. THE COST OF REPAIR/REPLACEMENT FOR THIS AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR IS $1200, AND WILL FAIL AGAIN WHEN THE SAME CYCLE REPEATS. CHRYSLER/RAM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND THERE ARE TSB'S ABOUT AIR SUSPENSION ISSUES, AND MULTIPLE CUSTOMER CARE CASES, BUT THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL. IF THIS SYSTEM FAILS DURING DRIVING IT CAN CAUSE A SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL DUE TO VEHICLE GEOMETRY CHANGES. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AS THE WARNING SAID SEEK "IMMEDIATE REPAIR" OF THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, WHICH ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE, AND OPENED A CASE, BUT LATER DENIED THE CASE. THIS ISSUE IS DOCUMENTED AMONG MANY OTHER CHRYSLER AIR RIDE SUSPENSION VEHICLE EQUIPPED OWNERS. THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM WITH LIKE PARTS (WHICH FAILS AGAIN), OR TO SWAP THE AIR RIDE SYSTEM FOR TRADITIONAL COILS AND SPRING SUSPENSION, WHICH IS COSTLY. THE AIR RIDE SYSTEM IS A COSTLY FACTORY UPGRADE. HAD CHRYSLER DISCLOSED ISSUES WITH SAID SYSTEM, I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS ISSUE IS MOST PROBLEMATIC FOR COLD CLIMATE OWNERS, WHERE TEMPERATURES DIP BELOW FREEZING. ONE NEED MERELY GOOGLE, "CHRYSLER AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE" AND IT RETURNS "ABOUT 1,260,000 RESULTS".
THERE SEEMS TO BE WATER COMING INTO THE CAB SOMEWHERE. I GRABBED THE ASSIST HANDLE WHEN GETTING INTO THE TRUCK, AND WATER STARTED COMING OUT OF THE SCREW COVERS. I DON'T KNOW WHERE THIS WATER IS COMING FROM, BUT I AM SURE IT CAN TRAVEL DOWN INTO MY DASH AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE RUSTING AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS INSIDE MY TRUCK WHERE IT SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO WATER.
MY STEERING HAS BEEN GETTING STIFF LATELY, ON BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS AS I'M DRIVING. MY HUSBAND FIRST NOTICED IT ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. MY BALL JOINTS AND TIRE RODS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, NO UNEVEN WEAR ON MY TIRES. IT'S ALL JUST IN THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HUSBAND LOOKED UP THE PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE TRUCK BACK IN 2016 ON THE STEERING, HE IS NOTICING THE SAME THING HAPPEN AS LISTED IN THAT RECALL. HOWEVER THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY STEERING. I'M NOT SURE IF THAT RECALL HAD EVER BEEN DONE OR NOT BUT SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH MY TRUCK.
PART # 68105583AF OIL FILTER HOUSING HAS GONE BAD IN OVER 58,000 DODGE RAM VEHICLES AND ARE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER
This is the 2nd Dodge pickup with an exhaust manifold defect. My 2004 Dodge Ram and now my 2015. This is a wide spread well known defect that should be corrected.
WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 20 DEGREES THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. AFTER THE MOTOR WARMS UP I CAN TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK
AIR SUSPENSION FAILED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO SIT UNEVEN OR ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BUMP STOPS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE FCA INTRODUCED THE SYSTEM.
AIR RIDE SUSPENSION FAILS IN WEATHER CONDITIONS BELOW FREEZING. THE TRUCK LOSES ALL AIR RIDE FUNCTIONS AND LOWERS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BUMP STOPS. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE LAKE WHEN IT STARTED TO DROP. IT IS -10 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. WITHIN 5 MILES MY TRUCK HAD LOST ALL SUSPENSION AND WAS SITTING ON THE FRAME. IT MADE THE TRUCK IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AND I DID NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL. I ENDED UP GOING 10 MILES PER HOUR UNTIL I MADE IT HOME.
A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER GETTING THIS USED VEHICLE, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE SAYING TO CHECK THE FUEL CAP. JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING ELSE WAS WRONG, WE GOT A DIAGNOSIS FROM O'RILEYS & AUTO ZONE; THE O2 SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SO WE DECIDED TO SWITCH OUT THE O2 SENSORS AND THE FUEL CAP. THEN AFTER A WEEK, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. SO WE GOT ANOTHER DIAGNOSIS TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, IT DETECTED AN EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK (VERY SMALL LEAK). THEN THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS NO MECHANIC ON DUTY AS THEIR AUTO DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. INSTEAD, WE TALKED TO THE DEALER WHO SOLD US THE VEHICLE AND HE STATED, 'YOU CAN DELETE THE MESSAGE.' HE WAS NO HELP AT ALL AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO HELP FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, HE SAID THAT HE KNOWS A LITTLE ABOUT WORKING ON CARS, HOW TO USE THE HANDHELD DETECTOR MACHINE, AND DELETING THE CODE WOULD MAKE IT BETTER? WE WANTED THIS VEHICLE TO WORK PROPERLY NOT BY 'DELETING' (THE MESSAGE), BUT TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG AND HOW TO GET IT FIXED. THERE IS A WAITLIST FOR AN AUTO SHOP NEARBY, DUE TO THIS PANDEMIC WE HAVE TO WAIT TO RECEIVE A CALLBACK FOR AN APPOINTMENT, AND NOW I RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM CREDIT KARMA STATING TO CHECK ON THE RECALL FOR THIS USED TRUCK I OWN. CURRENTLY, THE CHECK FUEL CAP WILL NOT TURN OFF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON.
I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DRIVING 45 STARTED TO PASS VEHICLE MY TRUCK WENT DEAD AT 55 MPH. TWO LANE HIGHWAY LEFT ME STUCK IN ON COMING LANE. VEHICLES FOLLOWING ME LET ME GET BACK INTO LANE AND MERGE TO SHOULDER SAFELY. THIS WAS A HIGHWAY THAT IS VERY BUSY, THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE.
THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND PUMP BOTH FAILED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2200.00. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 64,000 MILES. THE FACT THAT BOTH UNITS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME IS SUSPICIOUS TO ME AND SUSPECT THAT ONE PART CAUSED THE OTHER TO FAIL AND IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR FAILURE. THIS SHOULD BE A COVERED REPAIR BY RAM AT NO COST TO THE OWNER BY MEANS OF A RECALL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THIS FAILURE IS COMMON ON THESE TRUCKS WHICH FURTHER CONFIRMS THERE IS A DESIGN OR PART DEFECT.
THE POWER STEERING IS INTERMITTENT, SOMETIMES IT WORKS FINE SOMETIMES IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER
2015 RAM ECODIESEL 80K. WHILE ACCELERATING INTO A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION, THE TRUCK SHUT OFF AND ALL THE GAUGES WENT CRAZY. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND RESTART IT, HOWEVER IT WILL NOT GO ABOVE 30MPH. I BROUGHT IT HOME, SCANNED IT, AND FOUND THAT THE CRANK SENSOR IS ACTING UP - THE RELUCTOR WHEEL/SENSOR NOW NEED REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $1250 ! BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REMOVED TO REPLACE IT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED TO THEM ABOUT THE RECALL, AND WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD "I'LL TALK TO MY MANAGER AND GET BACK WITH YOU" THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET. SOOOO CHRYSLER/DOGE/RAM/FIAT/ETC/ETC/ETC WHAT THE HECK??? I HAD JUST GOTTEN CAUGHT UP ON ALL THE PREVIOUS RECALLS, LIKE WHEN MY ERG VALVE SPLIT, NOT TO MENTION YOUR EMISSIONS SCANDAL, HAD IT BACK A MONTH WHEN THIS HAPPENS ! VERY LEARY OF BUYING ANOTHER DODGE/RAM/WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLED NOW...
WHILE DRIVING THE SHIFTING IS HARD AND DOESN'T SEEM TO KNOW WHICH GEAR IT WANTS TO BE IN AT TIMES, WHEN PUT ON OBD SCAN GIVES P2704 CODE, HAVE CHECKED PLUGS, FLUID LEVELS, REPLACED SPEED SENSORS, AND STILL GIVING SAME PROBLEM, ALSO I HAVE TRIED TO HAVE KEY FOBIC PROGRAMED AND ALL IT WILL DO IS START, WILL NOT UNLOCK OR LOCK WITH CORRECT FOBIC, GIVES CODE FOR RADIO FREQUENCY HUB, I KNOW THE RECALLS HAVE BEEN CHECKED BUT THINK THEY DID NOT TAKE.
RANDOMLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WITH A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT THE SEAT BELT ASSOCIATED WITH THAT SEATING POSITION WILL BECOME UNBUCKLED. THIS IS RANDOM AND HAPPENS REGULARLY WITH DIFFERENT PASSENGERS WITHOUT THE PASSENGER TOUCHING THE LATCH MECHANISM.
ELECTRIC STEERING QUITS WORKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL GETS HARD TO TURN, IT'LL BE FINE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT'LL QUIT WHILE TURNING OR DRIVING STRAIGHT
MY VEHICLE HAS SUFFERED BOTH MAJOR SAFETY RECALLS, ONCE WHERE I WAS WITH MY SON AFTER PICKING HIM UP FROM SCHOOL ON A HIGHWAY THE EGR CANISTER SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE THAT FCA SAID WAS NOT A MANUFACTURER ISSUE BUT A AFTER MY INSURANCE REPAIRED MY VEHICLE THEY MADE THE RECALL FOR THE FIRES. AFTER 3 WEEKS WITH ME VEHICLE FROM REPAIR THE ENGINE STALLED OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A HIGHWAY, I HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THE INSPECTION WAS TOLD THAT THE TONE WHEEL WAS BROKEN AND THAT IT HAD CAUSED DAMAGE THAT WOULD REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE. I PAID CLOSE TO $7,000 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THIS. A FEW MONTHS LATER FCA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE TONE WHEEL PROBLEM THE TECH AT THE DEALERSHIP WROTE THIS IN HIS NOTES.
DODGE/RAM HAS KNOWLEDGE OF A FAULTY FUEL SENSOR FAILURE ON RAM TRUCKS THAT CAN CAUSE A DRIVER TO BECOME STRANDED DUE TO A SUDDEN LOSS OF FUEL LEVEL READINGS. THE SENSOR IS PRONE TO FAILURE AS EARLY AS 20,000 MILES. THERE ARE LOTS OF ONLINE NEWGROUP COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND DODGE/RAM HAS REPRESENTATION ON THOSE GROUPS, AS WELL, SO THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY WITH 70,000 MILES AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR HAS FAILED THROWING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0463 FOR 'FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 'A' CIRCUIT HIGH. THE OUT OF POCKET COST TO REPAIR THIS IS SUBSTANTIAL, AND THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE PRONE TO THE FAILURE, AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL HIGHWAY, HAPPENED SUDDENLY, AND LEFT US STRANDED WHEN WE RAN OUT OF FUEL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL ITEM.
Air suspension began to fail over and over while driving causing the vehicle to become unstable. First dealer says it’s a air compressor, then it’s the manifold that controls the air, then they aren’t sure why it kept happening ended up needing to replace the rear air bags because they kept failing. Major safety concern almost flew off the highway because of how quickly the air got dumped.
MY DODGE RAM 1500 ECO DIESEL CAUGHT ON FIRE YESTERDAY AND BURNT UP. THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT FOR THE SEIDEL EGR COOLER
POWER STEERING NOT SAFE, LOCKED UP. REACTS THE SAME WAY A POWER STEERING PUMP WOULD ACT OF LOW OR BLOWN. IN RESEARCH LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS ALREADY A RECALL FOR SAME YEARS AND MODELS FOR THIS SAME THING BUT MINE WASN'T INCLUDED. HOWEVER MY STEERING LOCKED UP AND HARD TO TURN. NOT SAFE.
POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. LOSS OF POWER STEERING WAS MORE PREVALENT DURING FREEZING CONDITIONS. THIS HAS CAUSED UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS AND WAS EXPERIENCED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BOTH IN A STATIONARY POSITION AND IN MOTION. THE CERTIFIED RAM DEALERSHIP STATED THE CAUSE WAS A FAULTY POWER STEERING GEAR BOX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS VEHICLE WAS IDLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT IT FROM CATCHING ON FIRE. THE CONTACT THEN CALLED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ARRIVED AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL CLICKING SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE SINCE EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.*DT*JB
THE AIR SUSPENSION ON MY 2015 RAM 1500 HAS BEEN FAILING (BLOWING FUSES WHILE DRIVING, FREEZING UP AND FAILING TO INFLATE BEFORE STARTUP) EACH WINTER FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. AS MENTIONED ABOVE, THE SYSTEM CAN FAIL WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, DUE TO BLOWN FUSES FROM AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE SYSTEM. IT ALSO CAN JUST FAIL TO INFLATE ON COLD DAYS. THE SYSTEM APPARENTLY WAS NOT INSTALLED WITH AN AIR DRYING CAPABILITY CAUSING THESE ISSUES ABOVE AND THIS SHOULD BE EXPECTED IN COLDER CLIMATES. THE AIR SUSPENSION IS A 'CLOSED' SYSTEM, BUT WAS BUILT IS CAPABLE OF PULLING IN AIR FROM THE OUTSIDE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS (MEANING IT IS NOT A CLOSED SYSTEM). GIVEN THE FACT THIS ABILITY WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE SYSTEM, AN AIR DRYING SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AS WELL. IT IS A CRITICAL SAFETY CONCERN WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS TO INFLATE THE AIR SUSPENSION AND FCA SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WOULD FAIL. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL REIMBURSING PEOPLE FOR THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH FIXING FAILURES OF THIS SYSTEM (COMPRESSOR AND AIR BAG FAILURES) AS WELL AS THE INSTALLATION OF A REMEDY (FULL REPLACEMENT) TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE SYSTEM.
FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER 2020, I HAD A NORMAL OIL CHANGE. THE FOLLOWING DAY MY RAM IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE BATTERY (EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD). FOUND MY RAM VIN HAD LONG LIST OF OPEN RECALLS. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP. PROVIDED WITH LOANER. SERVICE ADVISER SAID TRUCK WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE EGR RECALL. A COUPLE HUNDRED MORE MILES, A FIRE ENGINE WOULD HAVE ENSUED. MY EGR HAD COMPLETELY FAILED, COOLANT HAD GOTTEN INTO MY INTAKE. PARTS WERE BACKORDERED BECAUSE MANUFACTURING OF MODS JUST BEGAN. 12/24/20 ALL RECALL MODS/REPAIRS COMPLETED. DEALERSHIP ADVISED TRUCK WAS SAFE AND OPERABLE. RECEIVED FCAS EXTENDED LIMITED WARRANTY. 2 WEEKS LATER COOLANT/WATER LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH. FOUND THE COOLANT LEVELS DROPPED. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP, SERVICE AT THAT TIME COULD NOT FIND LEAK. TOLD TO RECHECK IN ONE WEEK. 1 WEEK LATER, LEVELS NOT LOWER BUT COOLANT FLUID SMELL AFTER SHUTTING OFF ENGINE. TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. FRIDAY 2/12/21 TRUCK STARTED IRREGULARLY AND GURGLED. FOUND COOLANT HAD DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW THE RECOMMENDED LEVELS. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALERSHIP. BEFORE DROPPING IT OFF ANOTHER MECHANIC FOUND COOLANT LEAK DRIPPING DOWN THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ACTUATOR AND FRONT COVER WITH TRACES OF IT COMING OUT OF THE WATER PUMP AND VALVE COVER GASKET. PUT INTO A LOANER. I WAS TOLD MY WATER PUMP FAILED. NOT COVERED UNDER NEW FCA WARRANTY. ALL RECALL REPAIRS/MODIFICATIONS DID NOT FIX ISSUES. VEHICLE REMAINED INOPERABLE AND DANGEROUS. COOLANT NEVER STOPPED LEAKING INTO INTAKE AND OTHER AREAS OF ENGINE. THE EGR IS A COMPONENT FAILED CAUSING DOMINO BREAKDOWN OF ENTIRE TRUCK ENGINE. RECALL STATES THE FAILED EGR WILL CAUSE THERMAL FATIGUE AND HIGH TEMPERATURES TO CRACK PORTIONS OF THE COOLING SYSTEM (HENCE THE ENGINE FIRES).
2015 RAM 1500 ECODIESEL MESSAGE " INCORRECT DEF DETECTED SEE DEALER TRUCK WILL SHUTDOWN IN 500 MILES" I HAVE BEEN TO 2 DEALERS WITH MY TRUCK BOTH TIMES MY TRUCK HAS BEEN AT DEALER FOR OVER 30 DAYS. IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, THIS MIXTURE INTERACTS WITH OTHER HYDROCARBONS AND AIR IN THE SYSTEM, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN COMBUSTION WITHIN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, WHICH MAY LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE.ALSO DAMAGING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. IVE BEEN WAITING 4 MONTHS FOR THE PARTS, IN THE MEANTIME THE INTAKE IS GETTING DAMAGED. THE OTHER RECALL THE MAGNETIC MATERIAL ATTACHED TO THE TONE WHEEL PROVIDES A SIGNAL TO THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. IF THIS SIGNAL MATERIAL IS LOST, THE ENGINE LOSES ITS ABILITY TO SYNCHRONIZE INJECTOR PULSES AND CAM TIMING.
