NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My husband was driving the vehicle when the power steering failed momentarily. It went back to normal but since it is going in and out intermittently. The mechanic will be giving it this week
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
My power steering has suddenly became very stiff when turning left or right and the suddenly loosens up causing the truck to quickly shift left or right. It is every turn into a road or stop sign and there’s hesitation or a glitchy jerky feeling around curves going normal speed limit. There were no warning signals lights or errors before during or after the incident.
Intermittent loss of power steering. Difficult to turn wheel at low speeds. Steering is tight then will loosen causing it to be difficult to control vehicle while turning. Ram dealer installed new steering rack and pinion which cost me $4,100 on May 15, 2024. However, steering problem is still occurring.
Drove the truck to work, parked it and the steering was normal. When i left work the steering was very heavy. I have not yet had it looked at by a repair shop.

This has happened 3 time now and basically has been parked since. We have had it to the repair shop and they couldn't find anything. Repair shop even has contacts who work for Chrysler in CO. We live in SD, it's winter. So vehicle need to warm for some time before driving. On all 3 occasions vehicle was warmed up for 15-30 mins. Hop in pickup to leave our yard and shift into drive. Steering wheel acts as if it's still locked. 1st time it lasted 5-10 seconds, I forcibly tried with all of my might to turn the wheel but could not get it too. Also tried shifting though gears while rolling. It just suddenly unlocked. The 2nd and 3rd time it lasted 30-60 seconds before it unlock. As a parent this vehicle isn't safe. What if it locks up while driving at 80mph on the interstate while my kids are in the car with me? I do have a video of it but it won't allow me to upload it.
Power steering is intermittently failing, making it hard to turn.
While driving down the road, power steering light came on and lost all steering on the truck. Was luckily able to avoid another car and safely get the truck to the side of the road to get it towed.
Power steering very stiff, doesn't return to center. Intermittent normal to very stiff steering while driving. Reading that some have had steering totally " lock " up and not turn at all.
My Ram 1500 has lost power several times while cruising at 55+. The first time was related to recall W58. My crank sensor became delaminated and caused my truck to completely die. After months of waiting I finally received my truck back, however, the recall is still open due to there being no fix. Just a few months later my truck died twice on the highway. This time it was due to recall Z46. After being sent from one person to the next all I am left with is I am on a list that is about 2 years behind for replacement parts.
The seat belt locks and then when I unlatch it and try to put it back on, I can't because it stays locked and won't pull AT ALL to be able to put it back on.
Dodge sent us a safety recall in May 2021 for Crankshaft Positioner Sensor and Toner Wheel faulty part. We took it to our local dodge dealership, they ran a computer test and said "it's fine" and sent us on our way. The car involuntarily stalled a few times while driving it the past few years. In February 2024, we took the vehicle in (AGAIN) to have the same issue looked at and they said the part needed to be replaced and said dodge will not pay for it and charged us $2900. Dodge is refusing to take accountability for this original safety recall and we are very concerned that our family was put at risk many times while driving this vehicle. Dodge new this part was a faulty part and refused to replace it.
Fuel sensor failure warning w/ accompanying check engine light. Fuel gauge non-functional. I ran code on it (forget the exact code) but YouTube mechanic showed how to fix by changing out the Fuel Sensor, which I did. Engine light went away. Been fine for a month and a half. It's now back to doing it again. Fuel Sensor Failure. I can't keep replacing these things, we're on a tight budget. I don't want to run out of gas somewhere due to not knowing how much I have.
Power steering goes on and off, and sometimes works fine. but it can happen when you drive the car that is not safe.
I am having an issue with my 2015 dodge ram 77000 miles. I get two messages, SERVICE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM and SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON , ABS LIGHT AND TRACKING LIGHT. AFTENR READING ALL THE COMMENTS I REALLY DONT HAVE MONEY TO KEEP SPENDING ON REPAIRS AND THE ISSUSE JUST COMES BACK. I DON'T DRIVE OVER 50 MILES BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF THE DANGER OF THE BRAKES.
The electric power steering fails when in low temperatures, Usually below 40 degrees. After the truck gets up to temperature the power steering starts working. It has not been inspected by anyone and it is unknown if it could be available for inspection. I have read on multiple forums of people having the same issue. There were no warning lamps present. It is a safety issue because it will happen when you are first taking off. For example it power steering will work coming down the driveway then when you get on the road it will go out, and after the truck gets to running temp. It will start working again.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the contact attempted to schedule an appointment; however, the dealer refused to perform the recall repair due to excessive mileage on the vehicle. The contact stated that the dealer was responsible for completing the recall but failed to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Vehicle would not restart after being shut off, thereby leaving me stranded on the side of the road in an area without cell phone reception or through-traffic, which led to me having to walk 7 miles at night while in below-freezing temperatures to get help. The engine component that failed was the tone wheel (part of the crank position sensing system). It failed without any warning. This engine component was previously subject to a recall (W58) that did not address the primary issue, which is the component's manufacturing/design defect that renders the vehicle inoperable as soon as it occurs. This defect can create life-threatening situations for drivers and passengers inside these vehicles when the defect occurs in uninhabited areas, as well as other motorists if the defect occurs on busy roadways. Many others have reported experiencing the same problem in vehicles with relatively low mileage, which is unique to this particular engine.
Good morning! I own a 2015 Ram Ecodiesel. I am not the original owner. I am in California. The truck is not under warranty and the FCC will not help me nor the dealership. A few months ago I was towing my horses in a trailer and the truck started to lose acceleration, started to over heat, black smoke was coming out from under the hood, and it almost lost power going up a hill. It was very scary and it almost caused an accident and my horses were terrified. I barely got it to drive up the hill and pulled over to safe place. The truck was smoking black smoke, smelled terrible, and we felt in danger. I took truck to dealership in San Luis Obispo CA. It was diagnosed with a bad intake manifold, bad fuel lines, bad egr cooler. The estimate in costs was about $7,000. Luckily my husband is a mechanic and he performed the repairs. Than the truck was back up and running, no more black smoke, and it sounded better. On [XXX] I was hauling my horses and small only 2 horse trailer, same trailer, it’s small, not oversized or too big for my truck….. the truck started to lag, lose acceleration and drive slow, then it started a knocking sound….. then a high pitch noise….. this was terrifying as we were on a very busy freeway. I pulled over and the engine started to smoke and make horrible noises like knocking and high pitch screeches. My husband and I and our two horses were once again stranded with a broken down truck. This time on a very busy freeway, highway [XXX] in California. The truck was towed to the dealership that day. We were stranded for hours with horses and no water on side of a freeway. The truck was diagnosed by Santa maria, CA dodge ram Chrysler with a blown up engine, that must be completely replaced. The repair is $20,000 or more. This is a common issue in these trucks. This truck is dangerous and needs to be recalled and taken off the road. All of these engines are bad and they should all be bought back. They were ruined after the emissions scandal. My 2015 Chrysler Ram EcoDiesel 4x4 has a major safety defect that nearly caused a catastrophic accident and has left me traumatized. The vehicle is currently inoperable, sitting in my driveway with a dead battery and what sounds like a thrown rod after breaking down for the second time on the highway. While driving on Highway 101 in California, towing a horse trailer with live horses, the truck suddenly lost power without warning. I was left struggling to control the vehicle and avoid a crash in high-speed traffic. This was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Losing engine power with a loaded trailer on a busy highway could easily have resulted in fatalities — not just for me and my animals, but for other drivers on the road. I was horrified and shaken, and I continue to suffer PTSD from the event. This is the second time the vehicle has broken down under dangerous circumstances. The failure was life-threatening, and it is obvious to me that the engine has now suffered catastrophic internal damage (likely a thrown rod). Recall Issues: I had already received a notice of Recall 22V-406, but when I contacted Chrysler, I was told the parts were not available and they would not buy back my truck. The repair was not released yet, leaving me to continue driving a vehicle I already knew had a serious defect. This delay put me, my animals, and the public at unacceptable risk.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and was jerking before downshifting to 2nd gear. The lightning bolt symbol was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was diagnosed but was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Power steering fail. 2015 Ram 1500
For my truck a 2015 Ram 1500 there is a known issue where the ABS module fails and won't allow the driver to use ABS. It's ubiquitous and Chrysler isn't manufacturing or supplying the ABS module anymore. I was told by the Dealer that I should "just buy a new truck" if I want anti-lock breaks. I have children, this is unacceptable. I'm on a wait list for the part now for over 2 years and I'm told that I may or may not actually ever get the part indicating, again, that I should buy a new one for safe braking. Apparently I am one of 100's of people on a list and Ram just recalled 1.5 million trucks with the same issue but not my year range of truck.... Part no: 68228991ad

Sudden engine failure
1. The ABS brake module has failed. We have gone into the dealership twice over the past year and a half and they have said they will order the parts and call us back and we have never received a call. When I called to try to get it resolved the parts department at the dealership says there is an Engineering hold note on the parts that has been there for over a year with no other details. This part is on recall for Dodge Rams from 2017-2024, but not for 2015 makes. 2. Our safety is put at risk as there is no functioning ABS break system when driving on the highway. 3. The problem has been confirmed by our local Dodge dealership and several 3rd party mechanics (Brakes Plus and an independent mechanic). 4. The ABS warning lights and brake lights are always on and will not shut off as a result.
driving about 60 mph in rainy eavnivg when saddenly car start shaking beadly and almost lost control lost power and slowly got home and connect scaner witch shows code for crankshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance P0336
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact replaced the fuel filters on two separate occasions; however, the failure returned after the repairs. The contact then spoke with a mechanic who stated that the failure might be related to the fuel pump and to check for recalls on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. Recently, the contact stated that while driving at a slow speed, the vehicle entered LIMP Mode and would not accelerate above 30 MPH with the ETC (electronic throttle control) and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Whenever the ambient temperature gets below 40 deg F, the "Service Power Steering" warning message appears and the steering doesn't work. The fuse is OK. The battery is OK. The connections going to the steering rack don't have any corrosion on the pins. I opened the steering rack to see if there was any water infiltration that might be causing a short on the circuit board, but it is dry. I saw the 2015 Ram 1500 had a recall for steering issues, but my VIN didn't qualify for the recall. There are no parts available to fix this problem, which tells me this is a widespread issue with the Ram 1500 trucks.
ABS Control Module failed and manufacture has not had a replacement available for at least a year and a half, they were supposed to be available March 2024 and that date has been pushed back every month. No one makes an aftermarket module either. Not having ABS on a Truck in Florida is very dangerous.
On my 2015 ram 1500, When it's gets cold out my EPS freezes up to the point where I cannot turn the wheels. I have to let my vehicle run for awhile to regain steering. It also keeps going out when I'm driving. Some days my steering will work fine and other days it doesn't. There is no warning light that comes on on the dash before the steering doesn't work.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the steering wheel independently veered to the left direction. The brake warning light illuminated. The warning message "Anti-lock brake system service required" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that there was an unusual burning odor from the exterior and saw an unusual vapor coming from the front driver-side tire. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the front driver-side rotor, caliber, brake pad, and brake hose were replaced. The contact stated that 2 weeks later the passenger side rotor, caliber, brake pad, and brake hose were replaced by another local dealer to balance the other repairs however the failure reoccurred. The first local dealer was contacted however, the contact was advised that the parts needed for the repair were on backorder. The contact reached out to the second unknown local dealer for a second opinion and they advised the contact that the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
going around a curve and the steering wheel locked up. The steering wheel is unresponsive at times and seems to have dead spots when turning. There is also a dry screech when turning the steering wheel at low speeds.
Crankshift position sensor code PO366 was orginally fixed a couple years ago with a computer update. Now having the same issues hard to start and engine not firing correctly to safely merge with traffic. Been ran off road because it takes so long to get up to highway speeds. An independent service center has found the same issue. Not able to get into the dealer until after the new year. I was driving down the road and it just went sluggish then the warning light went on after I was on the side of the road.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). After the recall remedy was completed, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, while driving approximately 10-15 MPH. The vehicle then started to jerk. An unknown warning light illuminated, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer that completed the recall repair and the contact was informed that the tone wheel and crank sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact also received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was not covered under the recall. The manufacturer also informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Subject: Complaint Regarding Camshaft and Lifter Failure in 2015 Ram 1500 5.7L V8 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding the camshaft and lifter failure in my 2015 Ram 1500 5.7L V8, which has only 141,000 miles. This issue began as a faint ticking sound—known commonly as the “Hemi tick”—and has progressively worsened, leading to severe internal engine damage. Now, I am faced with the need for a complete engine replacement. The “Hemi tick” is a widely recognized issue that often starts with a minor noise but is known to develop into serious mechanical failure in Hemi engines. Despite its prevalence, this issue is frequently dismissed until it causes significant and costly engine damage. In my situation, what began as a ticking noise has led to camshaft and lifter failure, which I now understand is a recurring defect in these vehicles. This situation presents a major safety concern. With these parts deteriorating from what appears to be a design flaw, there is a high risk of sudden engine failure while driving. The failure of the camshaft and lifters can lead to immediate loss of power, which could leave drivers stranded or in dangerous situations on highways and busy roads. Additionally, sudden engine failure at higher speeds could lead to loss of vehicle control, endangering not only the driver and passengers but also other motorists. I recently experienced this firsthand. Luckily, my family and I, were able to maintain control and get to safety. I believe that this widespread defect requires attention to ensure the safety of those on the road. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate the durability and reliability of the camshaft and lifters in Dodge Ram vehicles with Hemi engines and take appropriate action to address this safety risk. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the NHTSA will act in the best interest of all drivers affected by this issue.
Electronic power steering very hard and stiff. Slowly getting worse. No accident reported but major safety concern.
See attached document for complaint
I was driving down the highway at 65 when all of a sudden I lost my steering. No warning or anything.
No wreck related. But my truck just stopped running. It could of been bad if I was on a highway. The truck will not start or run. Diagnostic says it's, crank shaft positioning sensor. There is a recall for this but it's vin specific and mine is not listed. This could be a very deadly issue. No warning lights at all the truck just stopped running.
Driving down the freeway Without warning vehicle dashboard started throwing out all kind of code warnings. Vehicle went into limp mode. Vehicle started on fire. Dealership states the blue def system was at fault. A problem this same dealer fixed just last year. At a cost of over $3000. This time with the fire the bill is over $8000. Not to mention the def system recall from a few years back where these components were suppose to be under an extended warranty. What is a consumer to do. We are at the mercy of these dealers Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Electric power steering randomly stops working. Can be very dangerous when you’re turning sharp and expecting it to return to center after the turn and it doesn’t.
ABS control module and pump failed no replacement available waiting now for 1 year for parts this is a problem with a large amount of ram trucks. Need assistance from this agency
While driving at all speeds I lose my power steering. It appears it comes and goes while driving which is very dangerous. I did research and found that an open investigation is going on for 2015 Ram models that were built between January and September of 2015. Mine was built in June of 2015 but does not have an active recall. The cause of this is potentailly contaminated electric power steering unit circuit boards. I called Ram hot line and they said that my truck was not affected even though it falls within the date of mfg range and it is doing the exact same thing others described.
In the Dashboard show the Check engine light, so when I check on computer show Code P1DF3, it kill my battery many times.
My 2015 ram steering locks up, can't turn the wheel, highly unsafe. There is a recall for 2015 Ram's that were manufactured from jan-sept. Mine was manufactured in June. A recall for the same issue I'm having, but for some reason my vin isn't attached to that recall. This is highly unsafe, it is clearly a manufacture defect. And rams helpline is completely unhelpful.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the crank position sensor tone wheel needed to be replaced. The contact was provided a cost for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the previous recall repair failed to fix the vehicle. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 79,333.
I was traveling with my Ram 1500 Eco diesel truck pulling my camper when the Crankshaft position sensor on the transmission failed and my truck went into limp mode. I called the local ram dealership and they said they couldn't get me in for 5 days. I was staying in my camper off of the side of the road. So needing to do something I called another local shop and they got me in the next day and put it on diagnostics. Luckily they were an honest shop and they ran the truck and found out that this truck had a recall or extended manufacturers warranty for this sensor so they called the dealership for me and verified it. So I paid 150 dollars for the diagnostics and took my truck to the dealership to have the recall work on the sensor done. a week later I picked it up. I sent the 150 dollars receipt for the diagnostic work to FCA and they refuse to pay stating they don't pay for diagnostics. The only reason I had a diagnostic done was because of the failing part which turned out to be on recall or extended manufacturers warranty. I feel they owe me for this covered repaired. Please help me recoup my loss for this covered breakdown. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On the date of 10/24/2023 on my way home from work as I was exiting the freeway when I suddenly lost power steering thank god im only about 3 miles from home because it was extremely difficult to steer .
