This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.

Frame is rusted out and front gas tank strap came out and gas tank came down
Power steering is intermittently working. It happens at different speeds. It makes it very difficult to steer and power steering will engage after executing a turn which will jerk the vehicle and wheel.
ABS module broken and wheels spin when accelarating. This is not safe to drive
Was driving on the road while it was raining outside. As I turned a corner my power steering suddenly dropped out mid turn. Was able to fight to get of the road. It was accompanied with a service power steering system light on my dash. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it. It drove fine for a short bit and again loss power steering. The power steering light came on along with service electronic brake system, service trailer brake system, and my traction control light on the dash also came on. I managed to get to my destination without power steering. I have no recalls on my truck for this. I did have 2 codes when I was able to communicate with the module being U0155 and C2128. Most likely caused by water getting into a connector and shorting out.

Hello, my name is [XXX] , and I had a recall performed on my 2016 Ram Eco Truck 3.0L (FCA US Recall ID 66A) at Dewey Dodge Chrysler Jeep in [XXX] , following a recall notice dated June 28, 2023. On March 17, 2026, while driving on the interstate, I experienced a sudden and severe loss of engine power, which nearly resulted in an accident; the dashboard displayed a "Service Electronic Throttle Control" warning, restricting my speed to around 40 miles per hour with low RPMs. I returned to Dewey Ram that same day and was informed the next day that I needed to replace the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel, which was quite expensive. I had assumed this issue was resolved during the previous recall, but the service department clarified that the recall only involved a software update and did not cover the tone wheel replacement. However, the repair description indicated that FCA US would conduct a voluntary safety recall to update the powertrain control module software or, in some cases, replace the tone wheel. Further investigation led me to Safety Recall W68 / NHTSA 20V-475 regarding the loss of crankshaft position, which I believe pertains to my truck based on its year, model, and circumstances. I shared this information with the dealership, but they stated they could not assist me since my VIN did not show any current recalls. I expressed my concern that the previous recall may not have been completed to the necessary standards to address the safety issue, but they advised me to contact Chrysler. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Thank you. I can be reached at [XXX] or by phone at [XXX] . The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but occurred while driving in a straight line or turning left or right. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
My 2016 Ram 1500 (4th‑gen) has a severely rusted and failed front fuel tank strap bracket, causing the tank to sag. This matches the defect described in Recall U04 / NHTSA 18V‑160 for 2009–2012 Ram 1500 trucks, but my VIN is not included. I believe the same safety defect affects ALL rust belt 4th‑gen Ram 1500s and request that NHTSA investigate expanding the recall’s model‑year coverage.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS system module failure warning light illuminated. The brakes, traction control, and power steering failed, and the speedometer ceased to display on the instrument panel. The electronic throttle control warning light also illuminated, causing the vehicle to fail to shift out of park. After turning off the vehicle for several hours, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and shift out of park. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with ABS module failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The power assist has gone out. It became very hard to drive the truck. I was coming home from work when it happened. It’s obviously a danger to cause an accident, it’s very difficult to steer the truck. It has not been to the dealer or mechanic yet. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the incident. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. The problem continues today.
Hello, so I have had my vehicle in the shop for over 2 weeks due to a failure toner wheel and even though there is a extention recall for my vehicle there not covering it even after telling fca and the dealer about the issues. There saying they won't be able to reimburse me even though I just bought the truck through carvana about 5 months ago and haven't even driven it over 4k miles.
My Truck has less than 60,000 miles have paid for the extended warranty and now have a infamous ABS module failure which is very dangerous because now My Truck is my only source of transportation and being a senior citizen. This is a hazard for my only vehicle that I have. I have done my research and there are tons of complaints for this issue and it has not became a recall, which is very alarming and to top it off. I have always taken in the truck for Service to have it checked, and the dealer has never checked it and now that there’s no warranty now they say it is an issue so I need this to be fixed . This does also affect the driving of the vehicle and the stability and top of all the alarming issues on my dashboard. I am also the original owner of this vehicle.
ABS System failed when making a right hand turn. It cause my truck to fishtail into on coming traffic and wind up on the other side of the road going the opposite direction. We have not been to a dealership yet. Scared to drive it again. The traction control light and ABS light and brake lights are on all the time. No other warnings. The lights were on when I purchased the truck.
My truck lost power steering while driving, a red flashing light came on saying power steering, pulled off and could not turn wheel. Managed to get it to a shop close by and upon scan for codes it came up C2217-00 electric power steering and shop verified that my truck came up with a recall regarding this same issue but when I called a dodge dealership they said I had no open recalls yet needed to get it to their shop for their diagnostic.
My abs module has an error code and I can't find the part I need.
When putting on seat belt it won't stay secured, you have to constantly insert seat belt for it to stay, there's something wrong with it.
Fuel tank strap snapped off frame
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the strap to the fuel tank had detached, causing the fuel tank to be slightly detached, due to rust on the sub frame of the vehicle. The contact found information regarding NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) online; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Factory Air Suspension on 2016 RAM Rebel V8 5.7L Right Front broken elbow How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The right front broken elbow is causing my entire rear end of truck to sag to near ground level, leaving the front up high. It is making for dangerous driving condition not only for the driver, but for others as well. Truck bottoms out on the slight bump on the highway making for unstable driving, front head light up high cause issues for other drivers in front of me. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Confirmed at Jim Click RAM, Tucson Auto mall , Tucson AZ. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership, but I am ready to go to my attorney, to get this fixed the right way. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? This broken $10 part (elbow) is causing the computer system to list multiple error codes for the air suspension. The dealership is telling me they cannot find the part anywhere in the United States and is on back order. They refuse to use a third party part and it must be an official Mopar part or they will not fix my vehiclle. Meanwhile I have to drive to work every morning and this broken air suspension will eventually damage the rest of my vehicle the longer it waits to be repaired the right way. Like I said above I am ready to sit with my attorney to discuss the matter and to track the progress for resolving this issue.
My power steering went out on my vehicle in mid January 2016. My temperature guage was also not working properly. I took it to my local Ram dealership to get it looked at. They drew up an estimate and I approved some repairs. My extended warranty covered majority of it. After picking up my vehicle, I noticed my steering wheel still had some resistance to it. I felt it shouldn't have that much resistance knowing the amount of work that just got done. My temperature gauge was still not the greatest. It never got directly into the middle of being the right temperature, but being off a bit maybe isn't the worst thing. I notice my temeperature and steering wheel icons light up when I start my vehicle, but researched and found that that is normal and it goes away after my vehicle is started. I called to make another appointment to be seen, but later cancelled it after learning the information about the icons and my steering wheel resistence loosened up and feels "normal" again. I just wanted to document my experience, as I learned there may be others with similar power steering issues and that there may be a class action lawsuit in the works. I have provided all the documentation I have according to my knowledge, and can provide more if need be.
