NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2016 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Nothing happened, yet. The magnetic material attached to the reluctor wheel provides a signal to the crankshaft position sensor. If this signal material is lost, the engine loses its ability to synchronize injector pulses and cam timing. This loss of crankshaft position can result in an engine stall, as well as loss of the ability to restart the engine. Safety Risk A loss of motive power can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. . This is another recall on a new problem. The previous one dated June 09, 2022. These are grossly unsafe. And, again, there is no remedy, no parts available and unknown if or when they will be. . I'd like FCA to buy back this vehicle at the market value it was on June 09, 2022. It's wrong to have to have such serious issues wrong with a vehicle that are dangerously unsafe and potentially deadly.
Abs control module not letting my truck go in gear
The ABS light, break light and traction. Control due to either a faulty abs modul or tip computer. Dealers unable to replace until MAY 2024. Concern is the abs breaking and traction control for safe driving. From what I have read this is a common problem that needs to been corrected.
My problem is with my Ram ABS/Traction control, cruise control doesn’t work, 4 wheel drive will not engage. Having only rear wheel drive makes it hard and dangerous to drive on snow covered roads. Almost hit a semi head on because my traction control and 4 wheel drive doesn’t work. I’ve been waiting almost 2 years for a new ABS controller. Chrysler has put the part I need on back order like 5 times in the last two years and winter is coming and it’s not safe to drive my truck on snow covered roads. I don’t know what to do. I’ve seen and heard lots of people having the same issue with the RAM trucks. Please help. Thank you!
In May/June 2023, my ABS, Emergency Brake, and traction control lights all came on on my dashboard. I received a notice when starting the car that I need to service electronic braking system and service trailer brake system. At the same time, my cruise control stopped working. I took my vehicle to Hendrick Dodge in Cary, NC, on June 7, 2023, and received the following diagnosis: C220-49-Anti-lock brake module internal - internal electronic failure. The receipt said "the abs module is dead recommend replacing the hcu and abs module." It was an expensive repair and the advisor handling my visit that day assured me that my brakes still work and the vehicle is safe to drive. I also asked if safe to pull my horse trailer and he said yes. I decided a few months later to get the repair done and tried to order the module through the Hendrick Parts department. They indicated that there was an engineering hold on the part and they could not order it. The hold went until early (perhaps February or March?) 2024. So I made a note to call back in March - which I did, but at a different dealership parts department (John Heister in Sanford, NC). At that time, they said the hold was until May 2024. So I called back in May and they indicated the part is now available, but the vehicle has to come back in to be inspected and take pictures and ensure they order the correct part. I took the vehicle on May 21, they confirmed the issue and ordered the parts. The parts did not come in until August, when I had the following replaced for a cost of $2770 on August 30, 2024 to replace the ABS module and install anit-lock brake control. Earlier this month my husband who owns a 2022 Ram 1500 received a notification for a recall for the same issue on his truck. Due to my experience, I believe the 2016 RAM 1600 has the same issue and a recall should be extended to include 2016 models.

ABS,BRAKE AND ANTI SKID INDICATOR LIGHTS ON DASH. Took to brake shop and determined that the ABS module is defective and the system is not working properly they determined that it is a manufacture issue and take to dealer for replacement. Contacted dealer and was told that the issue is widespread and they can not even order replacement part until AUGUST 2023 it is MAY right now. Brake shop reports that the system is not working and cautioned driving until repaired and is a SAFETY CONCERN. Seems to be a problem throughout these years of RAM and feel the manufacture should be proactive in making their vehicle safe to drive. They need to expedite the parts and probably should shoulder some of the costs for knowingly ignoring this issue in their trucks.
Recall announced June 2022, manufacturer was so release fix first quarter 2023, my dealer checked today, no fix from Ram. The dealer has one used vehicle on their lot they can't sell because recall hasn't been done. What are my options?
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while attempting to secure driver’s side seat belt, the belt was only partially inserted. The contact was unable to fasten the seat belt. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
There has been no incident yet. This recall (22V-406) has not been addressed in about a year. I feel that the manufacturer is not accepting their responsibility. I have been not using this vehicle very much because of the potential of this shutting down the engine unexpectedly. I'm certainly not pulling my boat to go fishing. If this catastrophic failure occurs a RAM mechanic told me that it would be a total engine rebuild at around $10,000.00. Can the manufacturer be reminded that this recall needs to be fixed ASAP?
At 69,500 miles my fuel pump sensor failed, i have found hundred upon thousands of people complaining that their fuel pump sensor assembly in their 2013-present 5.7l HEMI Ram 1500 series model failing prematurely due to a design issue that is known by RAM for a long time and has never been addressed. i want to a file a formal complaint as this is beyond ridiculous, if this was a known issue why not address it to future owners. instead of installing a flaw design in newer models. it puts people at risk due to now displaying NO fuel levels in the cluster; this unit also potentially could or may control the amount of fuel delivered to the engine and i have seen or read where people got stranded. just do a quick search for ram fuel sensor issue and you will find A LOT i mean A LOT OF complaints. another issue is that my cluster now has my check engine light ON, Thus rendering any other future issue mute as i cannot tell if anything else failed.
ABS Module tested by independent service to be defective. ABS, antiskid and brake lights all on. Cruise control disabled. Available for inspection. No “incident” has occurred other than having no antiskid function which poses a risk in wet conditions as well as fatigue issues on long drives with no cruise control! ABS Module has been on manufacturer nationwide back order for over 2 years with no end in sight and no alternate resolution offered. Unit was under 3rd party warranty initially but it’s been so long it is now not covered.

My RAM has a defect that allows water to enter the cabin, causing foul odors, mold or mildew, electrical system disruption, and rear cabin airbag contamination.
The electronic power steering (EPS) module failed and the vehicle lost all power steering making it unsafe to drive the vehicle. The issue was confirmed after being brought to a Ram dealership to be inspected, the inspection for the vehicle confirmed an "Active" code for C2217. I was told by the dealership that the EPS Module had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the ENTIRE Rack and Pinion MUST be replaced.

Steering stiffens up and makes it hard to turn at lower speeds. There is a recall on rams from 2015-2019 for this exact problem that being a failure in the EPS system.

I am having continuous problems with electric power steering! I’ve taken truck to local dealership! Hights dodge! Madison Maine! Had it inspected while under warranty! Was told no issues with it they claimed they cleaned the connections and claimed that it was working with no issues!! As soon as I left the dealership it started acting up again! The steering wheel will actually get stopped and extremely hard to turn! Almost caused several accidents! The power steering is always intermittent! But dealership says there’s nothing wrong with it! This problem could have been resolved while it was still under extended warranty! They chose not to do anything! Now it’s out of warranty I’m expected to pay for repairs now! For the same problem that I reported and had looked at by dealership! This vehicle has only 88k on it the power steering should work!! Vehicle shows no codes! Does not indicate any issues! Try to drive it and it’s like trying to steer a truck from the 50’s with no power steering! I’ve talked with many people with same vehicle they all report same issue with electric power steering not functioning properly!! It will end up causing injuries or death when the power steering decides it doesn’t want to work!!! Accidents will happen no doubt!!’
The HPFP on my ecodiesel went out the first half of April. It is currently at a Chrysler dealership and is available for inspection. The safety of little children were at risk because I was driving through my neighborhood when it failed. The problem was confirmed by the dealership. No warning before the problem happened.
ANTILOC BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING DUE TO A FAILED ABS MODULE
Truck speed by itself with cruise control set to 57 mph. Driving down road and was slowing down to turn and wheel wouldn’t turn without a lot of force.
ABS module has failed and there is no end in sight on the backorder, so many owners have the same issues so finding a part is almost impossible, there is a current lawsuit going on for the newer model rams because of similar issues so I guess they are focused on trying to fix those so there are no resources to get trucks like mine repaired. Nobody knows when or if ever we will have replacement parts. How can they have so many vehicles with the same issue and not recall or at least make the part available so we can fix? 2016 Ram 1500 Lone Star edition
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the service engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated to 10 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with a high-pressure fuel sensor failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but was unable to confirm when parts would be available. The failure mileage was 79,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The fuel tank strap bracket on the frame has rotted out. Tanks is now hanging only by one strap. Also front of tank is 3 to 4 inches lower.
The power steering on my 2016 Ram failed and I was unable to move the steering wheel at all. The truck only has 45,000 miles on it! The safety of myself and others were put at risk because I had zero control over my steering wheel since I couldn’t move it. I took it to the Ram dealership to have it looked at. I had to have the entire steering system replaced (steering rack, etc). The dealership had no idea why this happened. They have never seen this issue before and they attributed the issue to a ‘faulty system’. The fix cost me $4500! I contacted MOPAR to see if they’d make this right and they blew me off since my specific Ram does not have a recall currently even though other Rams have had recalls for this exact issue. There weren’t any warning lights until the steering wheel quite moving.
I have reached out to Ram dealership on 2025 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90007. I contacted them on April of 2023. I was told by the dept who order the parts that they didn't have them and didnt want to order. I contacted them again and was given the same response. I have not been notified till this date if they have my part to get replaced.
Hello, On March the 31st, 2023 my husband 2016 Dodge 1500 ECO Diesel Truck serial number 1C6RR7KM5GS326355 stopped working while on a fishing trip returning to Tucson, Arizona . The truck was towed to Globe , Arizona still at auto shop since March 31,2023 , he left it for them to fix thinking he would get his truck in about a week or so. Unfortunately, he was contacted by the dealer Horne Dodge Chrysler Jeep Nissan, Globe , Arizona and found out that it was a recall on a high pressure fuel pump , which to this date July 20.2023 they have not been able to repair. The dealer explained the part is not available and neither are any replacement parts to fix the vehicle fuel pump with an unknown date of service to get the truck back up an running. First of all you need to understand this was my transportation back and forth to work and I had no choice but to go out and purchase another vehicle which put be in a bind financially as I am making to truck payments. I have been a fan of diesel of dodge diesel trucks and found another dodge truck which was a 2023 RAM 1500 VIN 1C6SRFFM2PN550123 , at Bill Luke Dodge in Phoenix, AZ in mid- April as I needed a vehicle to transport to work and Horne Dodge had no resloution to get the current vehicle fixed. Then a few weeks after purchasing a 2023 Dodge I received a recall notice once again for my new truck I just bought. This is so upseting to me as now I am hoping this truck doesn't quit working on me as still have another truck sitting at the dealer to get repaired from the same recall. My request is resititution for all my payments from VIN# 1C6RR7KM5GS326355 made from March - current date this is resolved and or go ahead and buy the truck back at FMV,or what you would call a " buy back" then you can resale when you figure out and get it fixed. I have called numerous time and your recall customer service have provided me with nothing and gave me various numbers to keep calling. I was told to send in reciepts once resol
Have recall and have contacted dealership. But have not been resolved. I submitted a complaint here and have not gotten a response. Tracking number is 11611355.
My truck was fine up until last week and the service steering assembly light came on , and was only on briefly , and then here on Monday, I'm driving on the highway and all of a sudden all my lights start flickering , and No Bus was triggered , I was able to get it back to town and brought it to my local dodge dealer , that has confirmed that the electric steering rack has malfunctioned due to a short on the internal module. So we're wondering if it's potentially a recall for this sort of thing doesn't happen from what they know and I'm told. And as a side note I put my location in Alaska HOWEVER! I'm actually located in alberta Canada and this was the only way ronget my form submitted and everything canadian brings me to nhtsa. Thank you.

electrical power steering keeps turning on causing stiffness at at the wheel. it also causes the vehicle to pull to hard to the right even after alignment. vehicle has been taken to dealership and was quoted over $4000 for parts due to "faulty grounding at motherboard"

Approximately 6 months ago vehicle started to experience intermittent loss of power steering. Problem would come and go without warning, In the past 60 days problem is no longer intermittent and steering is difficult at all times while driving or parked. Problem seems consistent with that NHTSA Campaign ID Number 16V167000 / Manufactures campaign Number S19.
Truck randomly turns itself completely off without warning losing all control of any power or ability to restart the truck to remove it from the road. Gives a Fuel Sending unit failure error, will not go into eco mode and will not remote start.
Looking to find out how long the manufacturer has to recall my vehicle? Trying to find out when parts will be available. Just to recall a vehicle does not get the known problem resolved. Do I just keep driving it in the hope nothing bad happens?
