Tailgate unlatched one its own when I was backing up. It dropped and struck another vehicles bumper. Tailgate is smashed now. I was watching the back up camera and the tailgate was closed. It electronically opened itself and dropped down with me doing anything.
On multiple occasions, my tailgate has opened while driving causing a loss of cargo.
While driving on a busy highway, facing early morning sun, I lowered the driver side sun visor to help keep the sun out of my eyes. A few minutes later, the sun visor came loose at the left-hand side and fell onto my hands as they were positioned on the steering wheel. This startled me, caused me to be blinded momentarily by the sun in my eyes, and caused me to have to move the visor out of my way (it was partially blocking my vision as it was hanging there from the clip on the right-hand side of the visor). It didn't cause an accident, but it certainly could have. The visor came loose from the pivot point near the driver's side A-pillar, upper left-hand corner of the windshield. I visited a Ram dealer on the way home from work, to see about getting the issue fixed. This was in October. It's now December and the dealer is still waiting on the part. The technician that looked at it did not explicitly state that it was a common issue, but his reaction to it seemed to indicate that to me. I should also note that this vehicle is a company vehicle, and not my personal vehicle.
Tailgate unlatched and dropped into open position while driving without any action to cause the tailgate to open. Resulting in damage to tailgate from a trailer which was being towed.
Tailgate latch failed. Tailgate opened while driving on two separate occasions. As of this submission my vehicle has less than 3,000 miles. After the second failure I took the vehicle to the dealership. They ran diagnostics and confirmed an issue with the tailgate latch. I am working with the dealership and hopefully will have the repairs covered under warranty. Diagnostic report attached. The incident date covers the second failure. I am reporting this issue due the fact it is a known issue and has been the subject of recalls for model years through 2022.
