MY WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK STARTING FROM THE BOTTOM CENTER, RIGHT WHERE THE WINDHIELD HEATING ELEMENT IS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BUT NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD, I JUST HEARD A POP AND SAW THE CRACK APPEAR AND IN A MATTER OF MINUTES IT WAS HALF WAY UP. ENDED UP REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD WITH AN AFTERMARKET ONE AFTER SUBARU OF AMERICA SAID THEY WON'T COVER IT.
CRACKED WINDSHIELD
I BELIEVE THERE IS A PARASITIC DRAW ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF MY 2017 OUTBACK (WHICH I PURCHASED IN 2016). IT HAS DIED REPEATEDLY AND RANDOMLY SINCE I PURCHASED IT, FAILING TO START AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A FEW HOURS. MORE TIMES THAN NOT NOW, IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN I'M IN THE BACKCOUNTRY (SUCH AS 05/28/2019), SOMETIMES AWAY FROM CELL SERVICE. INITIALLY, I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SO I HAVE CONTINUED TO MONITOR IT. SOMETIMES, IT IS "JUST" A DEAD BATTERY THAT CAN BE JUMPED (LIKE 10/21/2018), BUT ON OCCASION, THE CAR WILL START MOMENTARILY BUT THEN THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY (03/08/2020). SOMETIMES IT IS SO DRAINED THAT THE CAR FOB WON'T EVEN WORK. EACH TIME I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP (DEALER OR MIDAS), THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE ANY ISSUE - "THE ALTERNATOR TESTS WELL, BUT SOMETHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY." I HAVE EVEN PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST 5 YEARS, AND IT FAILED IN UNDER A YEAR. I KEEP MY INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF AND DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING EXTRANEOUS PLUGGED INTO THE CAR, YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS - IT HAPPENED TWICE YESTERDAY (5/29/2020). I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE FOR OUTBACK OWNERS ON VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS AND I HOPE THAT SUBARU IS ABLE TO DO SOMETIME TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM - THE REASON I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WAS TO HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION, WHICH, UNFORTUNATELY, IT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT. *TR
MY FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO REASON. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE
MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I LIMITED BEGAN HAVING DEAD BATTERY ISSUES AT NEARLY 15,000 MILES. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE VISITING THE CHEROKEE NATIONAL FOREST. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER WE RETURNED FROM A SHORT HIKE. IT LEFT US STRANDED AND FORCED TO WALK 4.5 MILES TO GAIN CELL SERVICE TO CALL FOR HELP. MY CAR NOW HAS 36,000 MILES AS OF 3/16/21 AND IS ON ITS THIRD BATTERY. THIS TIME I BOUGHT THE BEST BATTERY I COULD FIND AND AM HOPING FOR THE BEST. SOMETHING KEEPS DRAINING THE BATTERY, LEAVING ME IN ONE BIND AFTER ANOTHER. WITH NO HELP DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHAT MORE CAN I DO???
WHILE DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL ROAD WITH AND NOT HIT BY ANY DEBRIS OR STONES - , WINDSHIELD CRACKED STARTING FROM LOWER EDGE SECTION AND THEN ACROSS WINDSHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE.
PARKED THE CAR WITH NO CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. WARMED UP THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND FOUND A CRACK WHEN LEAVING FOR WORK. VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN IT HAPPENED. CRACK IS LOCATED RIGHT ABOVE THE WIPER BLADE AND SPANS IN THREE DIRECTIONS RIGHT WHERE THE WIPER DEICER IS LOCATED. BECAUSE OF WHERE IT IS LOCATED IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY NORMAL DRIVING SUCH AS A ROCK OR DEBRIS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND SPREAD AT MULTIPLE POINTS DURING MODERATE TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATION. CRACKED CONTINUED TO SPREAD OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE TIME THE CRACKS FORMED AND WAS PARKED WHEN THEY SPEAK. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS 75 DEGREES F WHILE DRIVING AND APPROX 40-55 F OUTSIDE.
MY CAR'S WINDSHIELD HAS GOT HAIRLINE CRACK OF ABOUT ONE AND HALF FEET. IT HAPPENED WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO STONE HIT. IT HAPPENED NATURALLY.
I HAD TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD ON MY 2017 OUTBACK 02/14/2020 AND AGAIN ON 03/21/2020. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY DIRECT IMPACT ON MY WINDSHIELD. ADVANCED AUTO GLASS IN WEATHERFORD, TX WAS THE GLASS COMPANY THAT DID THE REPLACEMENT. THEN THE SECOND TIME DIDN'T NOTICE CRACK EITHER. NEVER HEARD IMPACT. BUT ADVANCED SHOWED ME A SMALL PIN SIZED IMPACT AREA IN THE LOWER PART OF WINDSHIELD, THE PART THAT'S BLACK. THE CRACK WAS TOO LONG TO JUST FIX. SO WAITED TILL THE CRACK EXTENDED TO IN FROM OF DRIVER SIDE.
OUR 2017 OUTBACK HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE BATTERY DISCHARGING. THE CAR WOULDN'T START IN FEBRUARY 2020. SINCE WE HAD A LONG TRIP PLANNED, WE REPLACED THE BATTERY. THAT SEEMED TO WORK FOR A WHILE, BUT THE CAR SEEMED TO STRUGGLE WITH STARTING SOME MORNINGS. I NOTED THAT THE BATTERY WAS ONLY AT 11.5 VOLTS AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED $130 "PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN TEST", BUT IT DIDN'T SHOW ANY PROBLEMS. I INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A RECALL TO REPROGRAM THE CAR TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER WASN'T AWARE OF IT AND THANKED US FOR BRINGING IT TO HIS ATTENTION (AND TO BE "GENEROUS" HE WASN'T GOING TO CHARGE US FOR THE RECALL!). WE THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE SOLVED. IF WE DON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR 3 OR 4 DAYS, THE BATTERY IS DEAD, UNDER 11 VOLTS. SO, IT IS A RITUAL FOR US TO HAVE TO CHARGE THE BATTERY IF IT HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. WE ALSO CARRY A SPARE 12V BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH JUMPER CABLES. EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS, THERE IS RANDOMLY A "FAN NOISE" NEAR THE REAR AXLE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE "PARASITIC DRAIN" IN ACTION. THERE ARE LAWSUITS FILED OVER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I DO HAVE A CELL PHONE VIDEO THAT HAS THE SOUND DOCUMENTED, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I CAN'T UPLOAD IT. IT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM.
MULTIPLE TIMES THE TAILGATE HAS SPONTANEOUSLY OPENED WHEN WE WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE. ASIDE FROM ISSUES LIKE RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN, INCLEMENT WEATHER DAMAGING THE INTERIOR AND THE THEFT OF CONTENTS OF THE CAR ARE ISSUES. THUS FAR, THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN MOTION WHEN IT HAPPENED, BUT THERE WAS A LEAST ONE INCIDENT REPORTED WHERE A VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED (SEE ATTACHED COMPLAINTS OF OTHER OWNERS.)THIS IS NOT A CASE OF ACCIDENTALLY ACTIVATING THE KEY FOB - IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE ONLY KEY WAS IN A PURSE IN THE BACK SEAT. THE PASSENGER WITNESSED THE CAR TAILGATE JUST SPONTANEOUSLY OPENING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE CAR AFTER BEING AT AN APPOINTMENT, WHILE STAYING AT A MOTEL, AND WHEN THE CAR WAS PACKED FOR A TRIP THE NIGHT BEFORE. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, CREATING A DEADLY HAZARD FOR OTHER VEHICLES. WE HAVE FOUND THIS PROBLEM REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OWNERS OF THIS MODEL. THE LOCAL DEALER INITIALLY DISMISSED THE PROBLEM AS A CASE OF ACCIDENTALLY PRESSING THE KEY. WE DISPUTED THIS AND THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS TO SEE IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AND IT DID NOT. SOMETIMES IT IS TWO MONTHS BETWEEN INCIDENTS. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND SAFETY HAZARD THAT SUBARU NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND CORRECT, PERHAPS NECESSITATING A RECALL. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY CONVERSATION AMONG SERVICE DEPARTMENTS THAT HAVE RECEIVED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. IT'S JUST A SINGLE ISOLATED CASE AS FAR AS OUR LOCAL DEALER IS CONCERNED. I AM SUBMITTING A DOCUMENT THAT SHOWS MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS (AND NOT ALL) THAT OTHER SUBARU OWNERS HAVE BEEN REPORTING FOR YEARS.
TWO EPISODES OF SPONTANEOUS CHIPPING/CRACKING. FIRST CHIP HAPPENED IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER WHEN PARKED IN PARKING LOT. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE FIRST 3 MONTH CHECK-UP. WE CHOOSE NOT TO REPLACE IT AS THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF SPIDERING AND IT DID NOT AFFECT DRIVER VISION. SECOND CRACK HAPPENED TODAY, WHILE PARKED IN A GARAGE, AT AROUND 40K MILES. THIS IS A LARGE CRACK THAT IS ARISING FROM THE MEDIAL BOTTOM ASPECT OF THE WINDSHIELD.
STRESS CRACK ON WINDSHIELD FOR NO APPARENT REASON. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM CENTER TO MIDDLE. THERE IS NO CHIP MARK FROM ROAD DEBRIS. JUST STARTED TO CRACK. NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME.
WHEN MY CAR SITS IN GARAGE FOR A WEEK, THE BATTERY DIES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SUBARU DEALER AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM. BUT I CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION ON THE 6 TIMES I HAVE HAD TO USE ROAD SERVIC FINALLY I BOUGHT A TRICKLE CHARGER TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM.E FOR A BATTERY JUMP START AND THE RECEIPTS GOING TO DEALER.
SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY
2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DASH DISPLAY NIGHT HAZARD. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRIGHT DAYTIME LIGHT WAS INADVERTENTLY ACTIVATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT AT NIGHT AND BLINDED THE DRIVER NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER SUGGESTED DIMMING THE LIGHT. *JS
In February of 2020, while in lock down for the pandemic, my windshield started to crack on the passenger side below the seal in the black area. It continued to spread. I took my car into the dealership once lockdown had lifted and I could get an appointment. I was aware of the issues with the windshield and they did a pin test confirming it was not due to a rock but rather the windshield itself. I was informed they would not replace the windshield and I would need to pay for it myself. My car warranty expired during COVID and the dealership was closed for much of that Spring due to local enforcement.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE IT WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN OUR UNDER-HOUSE PARKING SPACE. CRACK BEGINS AT THE VERY TOP OF WINDSHIELD, ABOUT 3.5 INCHES FROM DRIVER SIDE EDGE OF WINDSHIELD, AND PROCEEDS DIAGONALLY FOR ABOUT 19 INCHES, DEFINITELY INTO DRIVER'S VIEWING AREA. NO SIGN OF ROCK OR OTHER DAMAGE ANYWHERE NEAR THIS CRACK.
I WAS WAITING ON MY WIFE AT THE GROCERY STORE AND THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK A LITTLE AT A TIME. FIRST IT WAS ABOUT 1/2 CRACK AND NOT ITS ABOUT 10-11" CRACK RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SEAT
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, IN NOV 2019, WINDSHIELD CRACK BY ITSELF WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL INFLUENCE DURING NORMAL DRIVING @ 9200 MILES, GOT NEW ONE REPLACED ON 12/5/19, THEN AFTER 3 MONTHS DRIVING LESS 500 MILES, IT CRACKED AGAIN. MADE REPORT TO SUBARU OF AMERICA, THEY DENY THE DEFECTIVE OF THEIR WINDSHIELD AND REFUSE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT COST..
UNABLE TO GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION WHEN VEHICLE IS IN PARK (IN GARAGE OR ANYWHERE ELSE). FOUND ISSUE ON FORUMS MANY TIMES. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO GEAR ASSEMBLY. MESSING WITH SHIFTING, BACK INTO PARK, WIGGLING KEY EVENTUALLY GET IT OUT. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 5 MINUTES. HAPPENS AT LEAST 40% OF TIME.
I'm the 2nd owner of a 2016 Outback. I bought it with 28k miles on it in 2017. It now has 33k. However - I drive daily...just not far. There is zero excuse for my battery dying at 30k. I called Subaru - and they initially to me to 'buy the battery (Sunday) and we'll cover it. Upon meeting with Subaru mgnt - looking for my money back.....I'm then told "you're out of warranty last week". Something is very wrong with this electrical system and Subaru dealerships - as Subaru is walking away from it. I got stuck with the new battery bill - but Subaru is stuck with a major problem - one that'll come back to bite them hopefully!!! SHAME ON SUBARU.
TWO ISSUES: - WINDSHIELD - I CAME OUT OF THE GYM TO SEE A HUGE CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD. ON THE VERY NEXT DAY AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE A WHAT I ASSUME A SMALL ROCK HIT MY WINDSHIELD AND ANOTHER CRACK SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. -LEATHER DRIVER CAR SEAT - WITHIN ONLY TWO YEARS OF USE, THE CAR SEAT IS RIPPED IN SEVERAL PLACES. NOTHING HAS EVER HAPPENED TO WARRANT SUCH RIPS.
WITH CAR IN PARK, CAN'T REMOVE MY KEY FROM IGNITION. INTERMITTENT ISSUE
HAD TO REPLACE WINDSHIELD IN MY WIFE'S 2017 OUTBACK 2 TIMES. BOTH TIMES THE SAME SITUATION: SMALL PEBBLE CHIPS WINDOW AND A LONG AND EVENTUALLY GROWING CRACK EXTENDS ACROSS WINDOW.
WHEN GOING TO PARK, I SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE BUT THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I'VE DRIVEN FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO COME OUT IS TO TURN IT BACK ON AND TRYING SHIFTING INTO PARK AGAIN, OCCASIONALLY SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT RECOGNIZES THAT IT'S IN PARK AND WILL RELEASE THE KEY.
THE CAR BATTERY DIES VERY QUICKLY. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE LAST YEAR, AND IT ONLY TOOK LESS THAN AN YEAR BEFORE THE CAR STARTED DYING FOR NO REASON. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THE CAR WOULD STILL DRAIN THE BATTERY OVERNIGHT. WE TOOK TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE CANNOT FIND WHAT IS DRAWING THE ENERGY. NOW, IF WE LEAVE THE DOORS OPEN FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES THE CAR WILL DIE. IT IS COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE AT THIS POINT, AND I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE A TRAVEL "JUMPER" KIT IN ORDER TO NOT GET STRANDED.
MY "EYESIGHT" DOES NOT FUNCTION APPROPIATELY SINCE MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. TURNS OFF AND ON RANDOMLY, CRACK DOES NOT GO THROUGH THE SENSOR.
VEHICLE'S BATTERY WENT DEAD AT ABOUT 22,283 MILES IN JAN OF 2020. BATTERY WOULD KEEP DYING EVEN AFTER PROPER JUMPING. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP ADVISED OF SOFTWARE ISSUE DRAINING THE BATTERY. I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY DID AN UPDATE AND REPLACED BATTERY. A YEAR LATER, VEHICLE IS HAVING BATTERY ISSUES AGAIN (BATTERY KEPT DYING- MULTIPLE TIMES- EVEN AFTER DRIVING TO TRY TO "CHARGE" BATTERY). VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP IN FEB 2021 AT 23,560 MILES. DIFFERENT STATEMENTS WERE MADE BY DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDING MORE POWER THAN THE BATTERY COULD PROVIDE. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD A SOLUTION, A BIGGER BATTERY. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR THEY JUST SWAPPED OUT THE BATTERY WITH THE SAME SIZE BATTERY. THEY DIDN'T TELL ME (TRIED TO HIDE IT). WHEN I CONFRONTED THEM, THEY ADVISED THAT SUBARU DIDN'T HAVE A FIX YET FOR THE DRAINING OF THE BATTERY. SUBARU SAYS I WILL JUST HAVE TO KEEP BRINGING IN MY VEHICLE EVERY TIME THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY UNTIL THEY COME OUT WITH A FIX. PLEASE NOTE: SUBARU APPEARS TO TRY AND HIDE THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NONE OF THIS INFORMATION WAS ON MY SERVICE PAPER WORK AND THEY ONLY SPOKE ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN FEB 2021 AFTER I BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE AFTER READING FORUMS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
UNEXPLAINED WINDSHIELD CRACKING STARTING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AT THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW BY THE DEFROSTER.
THE WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER AND HAS TRAVELED MORE THAN 15 INCHES TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAUSE OF THE CRACK IS UNKNOWN
WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 101 IN PASO ROBLES , HEARD A LARGE POP. AFTER STOPPING NOTICED A CRACK APPROX 8 INCHES LONG ON PASSENGER SIDE ABOUT HALFWAY UP APPARENTLY EMANATING FROM THE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD. DID NOT SEE AN OBVIOUS ROCK HIT.
THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A HORIZONTAL CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE ONLY A YEAR AND HALF INTO OWNERSHIP. NOTHING WAS OBSERVED TO HAVE STRUCK THE VEHICLE. THE CRACK WAS NOT THERE IN THE EVENING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR CARPORT. IT WAS OBSERVED WHEN WE WENT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING (JULY 10, 2018). SAN DIEGO WAS EXPERIENCING AVERAGE SUMMER TEMPERATURES. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED AT OUR OWN COST, AS THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. A SECOND CRACK IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE HAS APPEARED APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS LATER. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO CRACK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY IN THE EVENING. NOTHING STRUCK THE VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD IN THE DAYS PRIOR. IN THE MORNING, WE CAME OUT TO AN IDENTICAL HORIZONTAL CRACK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD (JANUARY 21, 2020). THE TEMPERATURE WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE WINTER AVERAGE (LOW OF 45F). AS WE HAVE MOVED CITIES (SAN DIEGO TO PORTLAND), WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, AS WE ALSO HAD A SAFETY RECALL THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT IT WASN'T THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT THE WINDSHIELD AT EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE. THE MECHANIC DID NOT THINK THAT ANYTHING STRUCK THE VEHICLE. THE ASSISTANT MANAGER MOTIONED FOR HIM TO BE QUIET AND THEN TRIED TO CONVINCE MY WIFE THAT IT WAS A ROCK.
I BOUGHT MY SUBARU OUTBACK NEW FROM THE DEALER IN JUNE OF 2017. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD THREE TIMES. THE FIRST CRACK, IN 2017 WAS THE RESULT OF A BLACK WALNUT FALLING FROM A TREE IN WHICH THE CAR WAS PARKED UNDER. THE CRACK WENT FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE SECOND CRACK IN 2018 WAS FROM GRAVEL ON A HIGHWAY EXIT WHEN THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 35MPH. THE CRACK STARTED AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AND GREW ALL THE WAY DOWN AND ACROSS THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN LESS THAN A DAY. THE THIRD CRACK HAPPENED IN JANUARY 2020, THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON RT 95 WHEN THE DRIVER HEARD A POP AND A CRACK APPEARED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DRIVER HAD NOT SEEN AN OBJECT HIT THE GLASS NOR HEARD ANYTHING GREATER THAN THE SMALL POP OF THE GLASS.
THE WINDSHIELD IN OUR 2017SUBARU OUTBACK HAS FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN THREE YEARS. A CRACK INITIATED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CORNER WIPER DEFROST ZONE, AND GREW UPWARD AND INTO THE CENTRAL PART OF THE WINDSHIELD. SEE PHOTO. THIS HAPPENED UNDER ROUTINE LOW SPEED IN-TOWN DRIVING CONDITIONS AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON EXCEPT THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER WAS ON. A CRACKED WINDSHIELD IS A SAFETY RISK. SUBARU IS WELL AWARE OF THE DEFICIENCIES IN THE WINDSHIELD DESIGN AND MATERIALS IN OUTBACKS AND OTHER SUBARU MODELS OF THIS VINTAGE, AND THE ATTENDANT SAFETY CONCERNS THE DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS REPRESENT. EVIDENCE OF A PERVASIVE DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD PROBLEM AND RELATED SAFETY CONCERNS INCLUDES SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN #12-19215R AND NUMEROUS ASSOCIATED CLASS ACTION SUITS INCLUDING LUONG V. SUBARU OF AMERICA AND POWELL V. SUBARU OF AMERICA. SUBARU'S SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO REPLACE BROKEN DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS WITH NEW DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS OF THE SAME TYPE THAT ARE PRONE TO BREAK AGAIN, OR TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY. SUBARU SHOULD OFFER FREE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS FOR THE LIFE OF AFFECTED VEHICLES, OR IMPROVE THE WINDSHIELD DESIGN AND MATERIALS TO ACTUALLY FIX THE CRACKING AND DAMAGE SUSCEPTIBILITY ISSUES.
The windshield cracked while driving on the freeway in the winter. I had been driving for approximately half an hour when the front windshield cracked from the rearview mirror location downward. I didn't notice a rock or other object hitting the windshield that would have initiated the crack. The crack has continued to spread since then and is to the point where I am having to replace my windshield.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING GARAGE DURING A WORKDAY. THE CRACK STARTED OFF ABOUT 12", AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER SPREAD ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD.
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY POPPED OR CRACKED IN MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK 3.6 LIMITED. IT CAUSED A DISTRACTION FOR ME WHILE DRIVING AS I THREW UP MY HANDS TO SHIELD MY FACE. THE CRACK WAS ABOUT 5 INCHES NEAR THE LOWER PORTION OF THE MIDDLE/PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE CAR AND HAD THE DEFROST ON IN COLD WEATHER, WHICH I SUSPECT MAY HAVE SPURRED THE FIRST CRACKING, AND THE CRACK SPREAD HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. I SUSPECT THE GLASS IS DEFECTED. IT COULD MAYBE ALSO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE POSITIONING OF THE DEFROST VENTS INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE BLOWING ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS QUOTED OVER $1,000 FOR THE REPAIR AS THEY WILL HAVE TO RECALIBRATE MY SUBARU EYESIGHT CAMERA SYSTEM AS WELL WHEN REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD WITH NEW GLASS. I HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE SPONTANEOUS CRACKS IN THEIR WINDSHIELD PER YEAR, WHICH WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER MY VEHICLES WARRANTY. I SPECIFICALLY BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR THE WARRANTY AS WELL. I WOULD LOSE MONEY ON MY CAR IF I TRADED IT IN AT THIS POINT. IT SHOULD NOT BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR SUBARU'S MISTAKES AND DISHONESTY IN PRODUCING DEFECTED GLASS. I CAN PROVIDE A RECEIPT FOR REPAIR ONCE COMPLETED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55-60 MPH, THE DRIVER HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED WITHOUT IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BYERS DUBLIN SUBARU (2455 BILLINGSLEY RD, COLUMBUS, OH 43235, (614) 792-2455) AND INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A ROCK HAD STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
WITHIN THE FIRST 100 MILES OF OWNING OUR BRAND NEW 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK A SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD GOING UNDER 10MPH AND A CRACK PROPAGATED ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR INTO SUBARU THEY REJECTED FIXING THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY SAID A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD. RECENTLY WE TURNED ON OUR FRONT WINDOW DEFROSTER AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AGAIN AND PROPAGATED ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD AGAIN. WE REQUESTED SUBARU FIX THE ISSUE AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS A NON IMPACT FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THEY REJECTED TO FIX THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THEY SAID OTHER SECTIONS HAD ROCK CHIPS (THE SECTION WHERE THE CRACK OCCURRED DID NOT HAVE A ROCK CHIP). THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE WINDSHIELD WILL BREAK WITH LITTLE TO NO EXTERNAL FORCE BEING APPLIED TO IT WHICH WILL CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD TO FAIL AND SUBARU WILL NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

IRONICALLY ON THE SAME DAY THAT I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED PER RHODE ISLAND INSPECTION LAWS, I PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER THE INSPECTION. I CAME OUT A WHILE LATER TO FIND THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. WHEN I FIRST OBSERVED IT, THE CRACK WAS ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG. IT HAS NOW EXCEED 2 FEET IN LENGTH. I WAS BAFFLED AS TO HOW THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED BUT THEN I SUBSEQUENTLY READ ABOUT HOW THERE WERE LAWSUITS BEING FILED AGAINST SUBARU BECAUSE THERE WERE NUMEROUS OTHERS WHOSE WINDSHIELD WERE CRACKING FOR NO REASON.
WHILE I WAS IN MY PARKED CAR I TURNED ON MY WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS. WHEN I DID THIS - THE WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED.I WATCHED THE CRACK SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME OF THE CRACK. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2017 - 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK, FORESTER AND CROSSTREK MODELS. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP (FLOW SUBARU OF WINSTON-SALEM)AND SUBARU OF AMERICA REFUSE TO FIX THIS KNOWN ISSUE.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE WITH NO VEHICLE NEAR ME AT THE TIME, TALKED TO DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM NEW, THEY SAID NO RECALLS FOR BAD WINDSHIELD SO I WAS ON MY OWN TO REPLACE.
WHEN YOU HIT THE BUTTON TO RELEASE THE REAR HATCH IT DOES NOT OPEN ALL THE TIME. YOU GET THREE BEEPS AND THE HATCH DOES NOT OPEN. IF YOU USE THE KEY FOB AND ATTEMPTS TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH IS THE SAME THING THREE BEEPS AND DOES NOT OPEN. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT OPEN IS TO DISCONNECT BATTERY CABLE WAIT A MINUTE RECONNECT CABLE THEN HIT THE BUTTON THEN REAR POWER HATCH OPENS. THIS IS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMESI TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WANTS TO GET IT LOOKED AT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. SIDENOTE WHEN I ENTER MY PIN IT COMES UP ON YOUR SITE IS A 2017 MY SUBARU FORRESTER SPORT IS A 2019
CAR LOST POWER AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE AT FREEWAY SPEED WITH 1/8 TANK APPARENT REMAINING ON THE GAS GAUGE AND 60 MILES REMAINING ON THE MILES TO GO INDICATOR. ADDED 1 GALLON AT ROADSIDE AND CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY. ADDED AN ADDITIONAL 15.5 GALLONS AT A STATION 12 MILES FROM POINT THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THIS LEAVES BETWEEN 2 AND 2.5 GALLONS OF UNUSED FUEL IN THE TANK AT THE POINT THE CAR SHUT DOWN FROM FUEL STARVATION.
BATTERY DISCHARGES AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT.
WHEN LEAVING MY GARAGE ON 1/2/2020, A 9" VERTICAL CRACK WAS FIRST NOTICED IN THE TOP MIDDLE PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD, JUST BELOW THE RIGHT EYESIGHT CAMERA OF MY 2017 OUTBACK. TWO DAYS LATER, WHEN ENTERING MY PARKED VEHICLE, I NOTICED A 10" HORIZONTAL CRACK TO THE LEFT (TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE) AND AN 4" HORIZONTAL CRACK HAD DEVELOPED TO THE RIGHT FROM THE BOTTOM END OF THE VERTICAL CRACK. THE WINDSHIELD DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ANY DEEP CHIPS THAT WOULD HAVE INITIATED THE CRACKS. THE CRACKS ARE PROPAGATING INTO THE DRIVER'S VIEW WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
CANNOT REMOVE IGNITION KEY WHEN DONE DRIVING. NOT ALWAYS, BUT RANDOMLY.
