2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE BATTERY WAS DESCRIBED AS, "COMPLETELY DEAD." 1 YEAR LATER, AGAIN, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND AAA REPORTED THE BATTERY AS, "COMPLETELY DEAD," AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ON IN THE CAR. A NEW BATTERY WAS PLACED IN THE CAR AND 24 HOURS LATER, AAA REPORTED THE BATTERY AS, "COMPLETELY DEAD," AS THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 BRAND NEW BATTERIES IN 2 YEARS, YET THE CAR CONTINUES TO DRAIN THE BATTERY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. UPON RESEARCH I FOUND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU FOR OUTBACK VEHICLES FROM 2016-2020 DUE TO THIS EXACT PROBLEM, YET SUBARU, "REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM."
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A BATTERY CHARGER TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES. NEIL HUFFMAN AUTOMOTIVE GROUP (1220 VERSAILLES RD, FRANKFORT, KY 40601, (502) 695-7500) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN IN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000.
I GOT IN MY PARKED CAR AND NOTICED A "T" SHAPED CRACK RIGHT IN THE CENTER.
I?VE HAD SEVERAL EXPERIENCES OF THE BATTERY DRAINING ON MY 2017 OUTBACK. MOST OF THE TIME IT WAS AFTER NOT USING THE CAR FOR A COUPLE DAYS. RECENTLY, MY OUTBACK WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AFTER BEING GARAGED FOR THREE DAYS AT A HOSPITAL WHILE I GAVE BIRTH TO MY BABY. THE CAR IS ALWAYS GARAGED. I?VE REPLACED THE BATTERY ONCE ALREADY SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR AND AM ONCE AGAIN EXPERIENCING ANOTHER DEAD BATTERY WHICH WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT?S PRETTY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A CAR 3 YEAR OLD CAR TO HAVE BURNED THROUGH 2 BATTERIES AND NEEDING A THIRD. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING 55MPH, MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED APPROXIMATELY 11 INCHES. NO ROCK SEEN TO IMPACT THE WINDOW.
THE BATTERY KEEPS DYING OVERNIGHT. I HAD TO CHANGE MY STOCK BATTERY PRE-MATURELY AND IT JUST DIES OVERNIGHT. THIS IS GIVING ME STRESS AND COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY AND TIME. LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A PARASITIC DRAIN THAT MAKING THE BATTERY GO DEAD EVEN AFTER ALL LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF
WINDSHIELD IS CRACKING WITHOUT ANY CAUSE. IT CRACKED NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER WHILE IT WAS SITTING IN A PARKING GARAGE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED TODAY, WEATHER WAS PERFECT (SUNNY, 65 DEGREES F), AND IT CRACKED AGAIN, WHILE PARKED, ONLY HOURS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT IN ALMOST THE SAME SPOT..
THE CAR BATTERY HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DEAD TWICE WHEN PARKED IN AIRPORT LOT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. ONCE THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD IN THE HOME GARAGE WHEN IT HADN'T BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. EACH TIME THE BATTERY HAD TO BE JUMPED. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AT OUR EXPENSE THE FIRST TIME BECAUSE WE ASSUMED WE LEFT AN INTERIOR LIGHT ON. WE ARE SAD TO DISCOVER THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT SUBARU WILL NOT FIX.

SO, ALONG WITH ALL OF THE FAILURES EXPERIENCED AND DISCUSSED IN FILING #11415232, A HANDFUL OF TIMES, I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN OR CLOSE IT FROM THE DRIVER-SIDE CONTROL. BUT I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THE WINDOW WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE WHEN I USED THE WINDOW CONTROLLER LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO ADD-ON TO MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT.
I BELIEVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES TO BE CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: DEC.31, 2020: CAR HESITATES TO START. IT NEVER TURNS OVER SO IT DOES NOT EVER START. WE INSTALL NEW BATTERY & CAR STARTS. MID-JAN.2021: CAR WON'T START FROM PUSH START, BUT DOES START WHEN I USE MY REMOTE START KEY FOB. AFTER THAT, CAR STARTS WITH PUSH START. FEB.-APRIL 2021: CAR HAS A SEVERAL TIMES WHEN IT HESTITATES TO START, BUT ULTIMATELY IT DOES START. MAY 1-3 2021: CAR HESITATES TO START, BUT ULTIMATELY STARTS. MAY 4-5 2021: CAR NOT ONLY HESITATES TO START, BUT NOW I HAVE ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS LIT UP ON MY DASH, INCLUDING CHECK ENGINE, EYESIGHT, X-MODE LIGHT IS FLASHING, AND SEVERAL OTHERS THAT I CANNOT GET TO TURN OFF. IN ALL INSTANCES, VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND TURNED OFF. I HAVE PHOTOS & VIDEO BUT CAN'T SEEM TO REDUCE FILE SIZE TO REQUIRED 5MB. SIDE NOTE: UNLESS I AM AT WORK OR RUNNING ERRANDS, MY CAR IS ALWAYS IN THE GARAGE.
WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH MICHIGAN'S UPPER PENINSULA AND NORTHERN WISCONSIN DURING SNOW FALL WITH A FULLY PACKED CAR ON THE HIGHWAY I EXPERIENCED THE REAR END "GHOST WALKING" OR "STEERING" OR "PULLING" TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT. I HAD TO DRIVE 40MPH WHILE TWO-WHEELED DRIVE CAMRYS, CIVICS, VANS, ETC. PASSED US BY. GROWING UP IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN, I'M NO STRANGER TO WINTER CONDITIONS AND ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES. I DON'T THINK ALL-WHEELED DRIVE VEHICLES MAKE ME INVINCIBLE, BUT THEY DO MAKE DRIVING IN WINTERY CONDITIONS BETTER. AFTER OUR TRIP, I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SUBARU DEALER AND THEY SAID AT 37K MILES, THE SUSPENSION LOOKED GREAT, ALIGNMENT LOOKED GREAT, AND THAT THEY WOULD RECOMMEND NEW TIRES (TIRES ARE AT 4/32 AND HAVE EVEN WEAR AND TEAR). I ASKED TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE TECH WORKING ON MY CAR AND HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT ALTHOUGH THEY WERE RECOMMENDING NEW TIRES, THE CURRENT TIRE CONDITION WOULD NOT CAUSE WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING. MY WIFE AND I THEN RESEARCHED AND CAME ACROSS SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS WITH OTHER DRIVER'S EXPERIENCING THE SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT WITH PRIOR YEAR MODELS. I CALLED SUBARU'S MAIN CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD MAKE NOTE OF MY COMPLAINT, BUT THAT IF THE SUBARU DEALER TECH SAID THE VEHICLE WAS FINE OTHER THAN SUGGESTING NEW TIRES, I SHOULD GET NEW TIRES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE FINE. SUBARU ALSO SAID THERE WERE NO "CAMPAIGNS" OPEN WITH RESPECT TO THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WERE SORRY I "FELT LIKE I HAD THIS EXPERIENCE" AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I'M ON MY 4TH BATTERY IN 3 YEARS. BATTERY HAS GONE DEAD MULTIPLE TIMES, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN DIFFICULT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. CANNOT OPEN LIFT GATE TO ACCESS THE CARGO AREA WHERE I KEEP MY ROAD SAFETY REFLECTORS, FLASHLIGHT, TIRE PUMP, ETC. STRANDED IN DARK PARKING LOT 1 TIME. AS A RESULT OF THE RELIABILITY CONCERNS I HAVE HAD TO BUY A PORTABLE CHARGING UNIT TO HAVE IN THE CAR AT ALL TIMES. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY FOR A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 27K MILES ON IT. THERE ARE INSTANCES OF MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS RESULTING IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU. THIS NOT ONLY IMPACTS THE RELIABILITY AND SAFETY, IT ALSO IMPACTS THE RESALE VALUE.
I HAD TO REPLACE ORIGINAL BATTERY ON MY 2017 OUTBACK AT 12,079 MILES JAN 2019 AND THEN AGAIN ON 12/2020 AT 24,431 MILES. I WAS TOLD BATTERIES ONLY LAST 2 TO 4 YEARS IN ARIZONA. I RECENTLY READ OF THE BATTERY LAWSUIT REGARDING ELECTRICAL CHARGE ISSUES WITH 2017 OUTBACK'S.
ORIGINAL BATTERY FAILED ABOUT 30 MONTHS AFTER CAR PURCHASED (NEW CAR). THERE WAS NO WARNING-JUST DEAD AFTER PARKED IN GARAGE OVERNIGHT. PURCHASED NEW DURACELL BATTERY FROM SAMS CLUB ON 1-24-20. REPLACEMENT BATTERY WAS DEAD AFTER PARKED OVERNIGHT IN GARAGE ON 12-24-20. BATTERY FAILED IN 11 MONTHS. NO PREVIOUS WARNING, WEATHER WAS NORMAL BOTH INSTANCIES.
CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I DID NOT SEE OR HEAR THE WINDSHIELD BEING HIT BY ROCK, ETC. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN HIT BY A SMALL ROCK.
BATTERY INTERMITTANTLY DISCHARGES NESSITATING RECHARGING. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE THINKING PERHAPS THE OEM (2YRS OLD) WAS FAULTY. THEN I READ THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR/MODEL SUBARU.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO UNDERLYING REASON. NO OBJECTS HIT IT; NOR EXTREME TEMPS.
THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. WHEN THE AT SELECT LEVER (SHIFT LEVER) IS PUT INTO PARK THE KEY ONLY ROTATES INTO ACC AND NOT INTO LOCK. THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED LIKE THIS. THE VEHICLE HAS 75,000 MILES ON IT.
WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THEN NOTICED A CHIP IN MY WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED UNEXPECTEDLY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
ON DECEMBER 7, 2020, AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 HOURS, I RETURNED TO MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK AFTER A BRIEF SHOPPING TRIP. THE BATTERY WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO USE A PORTABLE BATTERY STARTER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVE FROM MY RESIDENCE TO THE STORE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES LONG. THE FIRST THING I NOTICED UPON STARTING UP MY VEHICLE WAS IT DREW HARD FROM THE BATTERY, ALMOST NOT STARTING. I AM NOT NEW TO THIS ISSUE, AS IT HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 4.5 YEARS OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE. THE BATTERY THAT CAME WITH MY VEHICLE, PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2016, WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 808 MILES. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS LATER, SUFFERING FROM THE SAME ISSUES. THE BATTERY WOULD WORK OKAY AT BEST, THEN START TO DRAW HARD ON THE BATTERY, THEN DIE COMPLETELY. WHEN TESTED, ALL OF THE BATTERIES WERE SUPPOSEDLY SUFFERING FROM A BAD CELL. 3 BATTERIES WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CURRENT BATTERY WAS PURCHASED JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY IN 2019, AS THE LAST WARRANTY BATTERY WAS IN 2017. THIS BATTERY IS SUPPOSEDLY A NEWER, UPDATED MODEL WITH MORE CCA. I DO NOT LEAVE LIGHTS ON IN THE CAR, OR ANY ELECTRONICS PLUGGED IN DUE TO THIS CONSISTENT ISSUE. THIS RECURRING ISSUE HAS LEAD TO A LACK OF TRUST IN THE VEHICLE STARTING, HAVING STRANDED MY FAMILY SEVERAL TIMES. TO COMBAT THIS ISSUE, I KEEP A PORTABLE BATTERY CHARGER AND JUMPER CABLES IN THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE WINDSHIELD WAS INSPECTED AND REPLACED. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WERE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, CONSTANTLY DEAD BATTERY. I'VE HAD THE CAR DUE ON ME MULTIPLE TIMES. IT CANNOT HOLD A CHARGE. DEC 5TH IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND HAD TO CALL TOW COMPANY TO JUMP IT SO I COULD TAKE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS JUST 16,000 MILES.
I HAD SEVERAL TIMES IN 2020 WHERE MY BATTERY WENT DEAD AFTER LEAVING THE BACK TAILGATE OPEN OR LISTENING TO THE RADIO WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, WE REPLACED THE BATTERY, FEARING IT HAPPENING AGAIN IN THE COLD WEATHER(12/2020). ALL OF THESE SITUATIONS HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND EITHER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF OR JUST THE ACCESSORY MODE WAS ON.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THAT WASN'T VERY BUSY (AROUND 12:30 PM) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A SLIGHT CRACK NOISE. I LOOK AROUND AND I SEE A CRACK APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY WINDSHIELD. WHILE DRIVING, IT WAS GROWING LONGER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW OR WHERE IT CAME FROM BUT I AM SCARED THAT IT IS GOING TO GET LARGER AS THE DAY AND WEEK CONTINUES. NO DEBRIS NOR LARGE DUMP TRUCK WAS NEAR ME. THIS CRACK HAPPENED TOO EASILY AND HAS ME QUESTIONABLE ABOUT MY WINDSHEILD. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SOMETHING SO LITTLE IS TURNING INTO SOMETHING SO LARGE AND CAN POTENTIALLY BECOME DANGEROUS.
WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW. OUR BATTERY HAS BEEN DRAINED PREMATURELY NUMEROUS TIMES AND WE HAD TO REPLACE THE FACTORY BATTERY QUICKLY AFTER PURCHASING IT. WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE CAR BEING UNABLE TO START AT ALL. MAJORITY OF TIMES THIS OCCURRED, WE HAD LEFT ON THE ACCESSORIES LESS THAN 5MIN. WHILE WAITING IN OUR CAR BEFORE THE ENTIRE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. ON ONE OCCASION, THE BATTERY DRAINED WITH NO EXPLANATION. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS. THIS ISSUES IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER CAR WE HAVE EVER HAD. IT IS COMMON TO LEAVE ACCESSORIES ON FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME WITHOUT DRAINING THE WHOLE BATTERY. ESPECIALLY IN A NEW CAR. AFTER BECOMING FRUSTRATED WITH THE DEALERSHIP'S RESPONSE, WE LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR SUBARU OUTBACKS FROM OUR YEAR. APPARENTLY THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS FLAWED. WE PLAN TO TRADE IN THIS VEHICLE AS IT IS NOT RELIABLE AND WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED SO MANY TIMES IT IS NOT A SAFE CAR TO OWN. THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED OR AT LEAST HAVE A FIX AVAILABLE.
WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED THREE TIMES IN FOUR YEARS, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT EACH TIME. THE FIRST TWO TIMES STARTED WITH A SMALL ROCK CHIP ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THAT SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD WITHIN A FEW DAYS. THE LATEST ONE CRACKED FROM DRIVERS SIDE ROOF DOWNWARD WITH NOT APPARENT DAMAGE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IDLE IN THE GARAGE. IN 35 YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE ONLY REPLACED A FEW WINDSHIELDS DUE TO CRACKS CAUSED BY LARGE STONES HITTING THE WINDSHIELD ON THE HIGHWAY. I VIEW THE CRACKING WINDSHIELD ON THE SUBARU AS VERY UNUSUAL.
I PURCHASED MY USED SUBARU OUTBACK FROM CARMAX. IT HAS BEEN WORKING FINE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. HOWEVER, NOW I FIND MY CAR CONSTANTLY DEAD AND HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE A CHARGER AND LEAVE ON MY CAR EVERY OTHER DAY OR I FIND MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND THE BATTERY IS DRAINED. IT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT DRIVE ME VEHICLE FOR 48 HOURS. I ALSO HAVE AN INTERLOCK DEVICE ON MY VEHICLE (PUT ON AFTER THE BATTERY ISSUE BEGAN) AND HAD MY BATTERY CHECKED AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHO SAID IT WAS FINE. WHEN I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM CARMAX THE VEHICLE WAS DEAD IN THE LOT SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO TEST DRIVE IT. CARMAX REPLACED THE BATTERY TO ENSURE IT WASN'T A BATTERY ISSUE. THIS WAS LIKELY A TEMPORARY FIX WHICH IS WHY THE ISSUE DIDN'T OCCUR IMMEDIATELY. I TOOK THE CAR INTO CARMAX AND THEY CHECKED THE BATTERY AND FOUND IT TO BE WORKING FINE. I REPLACED THE BATTERY CLIP ON THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL, WHICH THEY SAID WAS A LITTLE BIT LOOSE AND I PAID FOR THE REPAIR. THE ISSUE IS STILL PERSISTING. SINCE I HAVE FOUND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU FOR THIS ISSUE. CARMAX SAYS I NEED TO GET SUBARU TO FIX IT, IF THERE IS AN ISSUE. WHEN IT DIES I USUALLY HAVE TO GO TO THE INTERLOCK MECHANIC AND HE HAS TO RESET IT. THIS IS CAUSING SIGNIFICANT ISSUES WITH ME GETTING TO WORK AND PLANNING AN UPCOMING MOVE I AM MAKING IN THE NEXT MONTH. THE INTERLOCK DEVICE CAN READ WHENEVER I TURN THE CAR ON AND HOW MANY TIMES IT HAS DIED AND I CAN GET THIS DOCUMENTATION IF NEEDED LATER AS WELL.
CAR BATTERY WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL BATTERY TWICE NOW. ORIGINAL BATTERY DIED MARCH, 2019 ' I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE THAT WITH A NEW BATTERY (BATTERY REPLACEMENT 1). BATTERY REPLACEMENT 1 DIED FEBRUARY, 2020; BATTERY REPLACEMENT 2 (ANOTHER NEW BATTERY) WAS INSTALLED. BATTERY REPLACEMENT 2 DIED NOVEMBER, 2020; BATTERY REPLACEMENT 3 (ANOTHER NEW BATTERY) WAS INSTALLED BY SUBARU.
I WAS IN MOTION AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, AND AS I BEGAN TO LIGHTLY APPLY MY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, MY VEHICLE TRIED TO ACCELERATE (THERE WAS ALSO A CORRESPONDING REV IN THE ENGINE). FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTRA HARD TO BRING IT TO A COMPLETE STOP.
THE REAR HATCH AFTER USE IT APPEARS TO BE CLOSED. IT DOES NOT INDICATE IT IS NOT LATCHED OR CLOSED AND DRAINS THE BATTERY AND THE CAR DOES NOT START. THE BACK UP INDICATOR DID NOT ALERT ME THAT THERE WAS A CAR COMING ACROSS BEHIND ME.
Car will not hold a charge. Have seen dealer and called Subaru of America. Problem remains unresolved.
Battery died prematurely. Also, there was a lot of corrosion on the battery that might have started a fire had the battery not died before further danger had happened.
BATTERY HAS DIED AT LEAST 5 TIMES. ENOUGH TO WHERE I BOUGHT MY OWN JUMP START BATTERY. THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO JUMP IT WAS JUST OVER A YEAR OLD, SO I BROUGHT IT INTO SUBARU AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY FREE OF CHARGE. FROM THAT POINT ON WHEN THE BATTERY DIED I HAD IT JUMPED BY A TOW. NEARING THE END OF MY LEASE THE VEHICLES BATTERY WAS DATE DECEMBER OF 2018. I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE IT JUMPED THIS MORNING, 11/7/2020, AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD THIS TIME. WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO HAVE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE JUMP THE VEHICLE, I HEARD THE TAIL GATE TRYING TO ENGAGE AND THEN IT FAILED TO START. IT SEEMS LIKE THE TAILGATE WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY TRYING TO OPEN OR CLOSE, BUT IT WASN'T USED WHEN I GOT HOME.
The battery on this vehicle needs to be charged weekly, the battery tests fine, but something is drawing the charge.I have been charging the battery weekly for almost a year now.
KEYS FREQUENTLY GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSES THE STEERING COLUMN TO BE UNABLE TO DETECT WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO PARK. THE ENTIRE GEARSHIFTERHAD TO BE REPLACED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THIS IS A FREQUENT COMPLAINT FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND IT SEEMS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED.
ASCENT DEAD BATTERY ISSUE. PARASITIC POWER DRAW THAT DRAINS BATTERY SIGNIFICANTLY WHEN PARKED OR SHORT USE. SUBARU TESTED BUT WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAULT. I KNOW NEED TO USE A TRICKLE CHARGER ALL THE TIME WHEN PARKED. 2 BATTERIES IMPACTED IN THE 8 MONTH COVID19 TIMEFRAME AND IN UNDER 36K MILE USE. NEITHER REPLACED BY SUBARU.
WINDSHIELD KEEPS BREAKING CRACKS COME UP FROM THE BOTTOM NOT FROM ROCK CHIP. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE IT IN THE TWO YEARS WE HAVE OWNED IT.
PREMATURE BATTERY FAILURE. REPLACED TWICE IN LAST 14 MONTHS. DOES NOT HOLD CHARGE PROPERLY. SEEMS TO BE EITHER UNDERPOWERED OR HAS UNIDENTIFIED DRAIN ON BATTERY.
BATTERY ISSUES ARE NON STOP! BATTERY DIES ALL THE TIME. WE HAD A NEW 2016 OUTBACK PREVIOUSLY, THAT HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD JUST DIE. WE TRADED IT IN FOR A NEW 2017 OUTBACK AND IT'S EVEN WORSE. BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED (NOT SURE HOW MANY TIMES), AND ISSUE IS STILL THE SAME. LEAVES US STUCK/STRANDED IN RANDOM PLACES, AND BACK HATCH WILL SOMETIMES BEEP NON STOP EVEN THOUGH IT'S COMPLETELY CLOSED. WE HAVE TO KEEP AN EMERGENCY JUMP KIT WITH US CONSTANTLY. THE BACK HATCH WON'T OPEN WHEN BATTERY IS DEAD/LOW, WHICH IS CRAZY THAT THERE ISN'T SOME TYPE OF OVERRIDE TO THIS. I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS BATTERY ISSUES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND I'M BEYOND SHOCKED THAT THIS HASN'T BEEN FIXED/ADDRESSED BY SUBARU. WE ARE FED UP WITH THE BATTERY DRAIN, AND DO EVERYTHING WE CAN SO WE CAN (HOPEFULLY) PROACTIVELY START OUR VEHICLE (HAVE ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF, RADIO OFF, AIR OFF - ALL SYSTEMS POSSIBLE TURNED OFF). EVEN THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. WE SPEND EXTRA MONEY ON GAS JUST TO RECHARGE THE CAR BY DRIVING IT MORE MILES THAN WE WANT TO. I'M GONNA BE DONE WITH SUBARU AFTER THIS.
THE FIRST TIME, I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD, I WATCHED THE CRACK SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD JUST AS FAST AS IT HAPPENED. AFTER THAT INCIDENT, IT SEEMED EACH ROCK THAT HIT MY WINDSHIELD TURNED INTO A FULL-LENGTH CRACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE, WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. THE CONTACT CALLED A WINDSHIELD REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED REMOTELY AT HIS RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,800.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW. I AM ON THE 4TH WINDSHIELD NOW. CRACKS SHOW UP BELOW THE WIPER AND SPREAD STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN THEN ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. ANY LITLE DING CAUSES A COMPLETE LOSS OF THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM...
IF IT'S RAINING OUTSIDE SOMETIMES THE CRUIS CONTROL WILL CUT OUT
PULLING INTO OUR GARAGE (AS WE HAVE DONE PROBABLY THOUSANDS OF TIMES SINCE OWNING THE CAR), OUR 2017 OUTBACK ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL INTO THE BACK WALL OF OUR GARAGE. CAR HAD BEEN STOPPED AT THE PARKING POSITION IN THE GARAGE AND WAS BEING SHIFTED INTO PARK WHEN THE ACCELERATION OCCURRED. GAS PEDAL WAS NOT TOUCHED (CAR ALWAYS COASTS INTO GARAGE UNDER IT'S OWN POWER, AND FOOT IS ONLY ON THE BRAKE ALWAYS). EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO CAR AND GARAGE. BOTH SUBARU AND OUR INSURANCE COMPANY HAVE BEEN ALERTED.
2017 SUBARU OUTBACK LIMITED WITH EYESITE SAFETY CAMERAS/DRIVER ASSIST. WINDSHIELD CRACKED OVERNIGHT JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY NOSED UP TO THE GARAGE. NO CRACK WHEN I LEFT WORK TO HEAD HOME. NOTHING HIT WINDSHIELD ON THE WAY HOME. IF YOU'VE HAD A ROCK OR PEBBLE HIT YOU'RE WINDSHIELD, BELIEVE ME, YOU KNOW IT! SCARES THE CRAP OUT YOU. NOTHING LIKE THAT AT ALL HAPPENED. NEXT MORNING I GET IN CAR TO HEAD TO WORK AND THERE'S A LONG CRACK COMING UP FROM THE VERY BOTTOM TO ABOUT EYE HEIGHT AND THEN TURNS INWARD TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE GLASS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AROUND OR ON THE CAR. THERE ARE NO KIDS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD EITHER. MY GARAGE IS ABOUT 200' FROM THE STREET WHERE THE CAR WAS PARKED. SMALL TOWN RESIDENTIAL ROAD TO A DEAD END, VERY, VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. I HAVE A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 103K MILES, AND THAT HAS HAD NO ISSUES WITH CRACKS IN THE WINDSHIELD. STILL HAS ITS ORIGINAL GLASS.
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON 10/05/2020 AND PARKED WITH NO CRACKS IN WINDSHIELD, UPON RETURNING TO VEHICLE THERE WAS A LARGE CRACK CROSSING WINDSHIELD. NO ROCKS OR DEBRIS HAVE STRUCK VEHICLES WINDSHIELD.
WITHIN THE PAST 3 WEEKS, WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED AN INTERMITTENT AND RECURRING PROBLEM OF BEING UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AFTER DRIVING, AND IN "PARK". CAR IS STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURS.
WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, THE KEY IS INTERMITTENTLY NOT ABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. REAR HATCH WILL ALSO NOT OPEN WHEN THIS OCCURS, AS THE SHIFT SELECT SOLENOID DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO PARK.
KEY NOT RELEASING FROM IGNITION AFTER PUTTING CAR INTO PARK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AS SUBARU PUT OUT SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN 16-112-18R. SUBARU STATES "THE CAUSE IS CONTAMINATION OF THE PARK-RANGE SWITCH INTERNAL COMPONENTS." SO IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT SUBARU HAS NOT MADE A RECALL, COSTING OWNERS $400-$800 TO GET IT REPAIRED IF THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY.
