I WAS BACKING UP SLOWLY, 1-3 MPH, AND THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE GOT BURIED IN THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL. I WAS ONLY TURNING SLIGHTLY, AND THE GROUND WAS RELATIVELY FLAT. THERE WAS NO SOUND OR ANYTHING, THE CAR JUST STOPPED BECAUSE THE WHEEL WAS JAMMED IN THE WHEEL WELL. I CAME TO FIND OUT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM/FORELINK HAD FAILED. IT CRACKED AND SEPARATED AT THE STEERING KNUCKLE. TESLA WAS OK ABOUT FIXING IT, THANK GOODNESS THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY OR IT WOULD HAVE COST THOUSANDS TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL. I COULDN’T LEAVE THE OTHER SIDE IN PLACE KNOWING THIS IS COMMON DEFECT AND THAT MY FAMILY’S SAFETY WAS IN JEOPARDY. THANKFULLY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE DOING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. TESLA BEGRUDGINGLY REPLACED BOTH SIDES UNDER THE WARRANTY. BUT, THEY DIDN’T REPAIR IT CORRECTLY. I’VE REPEATEDLY TOLD THEM THE TIRE RUBS AGAINST THE FRONT WHEEL WELL, AND IT DIDN’T BEFORE, BUT THEY SAID IT DOESN’T RUB. EVEN THOUGH, I HAVE PICTURES SHOWING THE TIRE AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL, WITH NO SPACE IN BETWEEN. I ALSO HAD TO ASK THEM TO PUT ALL THE RETAINING CLIPS IN PLACE REPEATEDLY, BUT THEY STILL LEFT AT LEAST 4 OUT. ALL THIS HAPPENED AT THE SERVICE CENTER IN BUENA PARK, CA. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE AND THERE IS NO WAY TO ESCALATE PROBLEMS BEYOND THE SERVICE ADVISOR YOU DEAL WITH. SO, BASICALLY I’M STUCK NOT REALLY KNOWING IF IT CONTINUES TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE TESLA REFUSES TO COOPERATE AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE TO COMPLAIN TO. I HAVE ANOTHER SERVICE APPOINTMENT SOON, I’M HOPING IT WILL FINALLY GET RESOLVED. I USED TO BE A HUGE FAN, BUT THIS COMPANY IS A BLACK BOX WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEALING WITH CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS REGARDING VERY LEGITIMATE SYSTEM FAILURES.
I DROVE TO A STORE WITH NO ISSUES. UPON BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT I HEARD A 'BREAK' AND THEN FELT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE RUBBING AGAINST THE CAR. I NOTICED THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS POSITIONED FURTHER BACK THAN USUAL AND DETERMINED SOMETHING BROKE UNDER THE CAR. TOWED THE CAR HOME, AND USED A CAMERA TO CAPTURE A BREAK IN THE FRONT FORE LINK. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES, I WASN'T INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT, NOR DID I HIT A POT HOLE OF ANY SORT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO TESLA WHERE THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL OR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (I WAS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY). I DISCOVERED ONLINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MODEL S AND X'S. I SUBMIT THIS TO YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW AS I BELIEVE THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. ALSO, ATTACHED IN THIS INVOICE FROM TESLA. THEY REPLACED THE BROKEN PASSENGER SIDE FORE LINK AND ALSO REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE FORE LINK AS I BELIEVE THEY FELT IT WOULD FAIL IN THE FUTURE.
MAIN DISPLAY FAILURE. UNABLE TO VISUALIZE CONTROLS. TEMP OVER 100 DEGREES IN CAR. COULD NOT DEFOG WINDOWS. UNABLE TO OUT CAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE
MCU DIED.
THE WHOLE SCREEN IN THE CAR IS BLACK - CANT TURN ON AC, MUSIC, SUNROOF, OR BACK UP CAMERA. LOSS OF REAR AND FRONT VIEW CAMERA
THE 2016 TESLA MODEL S MCU HAD BEEN SLUGGISH AND OFTEN TIMES FREEZES. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A RISK FOR DRIVING AS I CANNOT ACCESS OR SEE ANYTHING ON THE SCREEN. LOTS OF TIMES THE FRONT SCREEN AND THE MCU SCREEN TURNS OFF. I CALLED TESLA AND THEY DELETED THE ENTIRE HISTORY CACHING, BUT THAT WORKED FOR A BIT, BUT THEN WAS SLOW AND SLUGGISH. THE MCU WILL GO OUT A WEEK LATER. OFTEN TIMES, I WOULD GET IN THE CAR AND THE CAR WILL NOT BOOT UP FOR A COUPLE MINUTES. TRYING TO CHANGE SETTINGS ON THE MCU WOULD BE AN SLOW PROCESS. SOMETIMES THERE WERE GLITCHES WHERE YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING ON THE SCREENS LIKE THE SPEEDOMETER WHICH MAKES DRIVING DANGEROUS. MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY WOULDN'T CHANGE THE MCU. I ENDED UP PAYING $2700 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MCU. THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPEN ON LESS THAN A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WHEN I DID THIS. EVEN WITH TESLA EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE MCU WAS NOT COVERED.
MCU FAILURE CAUSING NO A/C, AND CAUSING NON CRITICAL ELECTRONICS TO BECOME INOPERATIVE DUE TO DESIGN DEFECT
MCU1 COMPUTER FAILED. 2016 MODEL S 85D. REAR CAMERA,AC,BLINKERS,AND MANY OTHER THINGS DON'T WORK. CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. HAPPENED OVER NIGHT AND I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE TO DRIVE IT.
THE CENTER SCREEN (INFOTAINMENT CENTER) WENT BLANK ON ME AND I COULD NOT CONTROL MAIN FEATURES. I COULDN'T CONTROL MY SUNROOF WHICH WAS LEFT OPEN TO VENT. I COULDN'T USE MY REAR VIEW CAMERA. ALL SENSORS WERE NOT WORKING. THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER WAS MY WORKING AND I COULD NOT CONTROL THEM. DEFROSTER AND RADIO WERE NOT WORKING AS WELL. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE HEADLIGHTS AND CERTAIN DRIVING MODES.
MY MCU DIED AND REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN ORDERED FOR $1700 BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. NHTSA ALREADY HAS STARTED AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS MCU PROBLEM. AS YOU KNOW, THE MCU FAILURE MAKES THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM INOP, AS WELL AS REAR CAMERA, SECURITY CODE, ETC. THIS IS A VERY SAFE CAR, BUT NOT WITHOUT THE MCU
THE CENTRAL CLUSTER DISPLAY DIED COMPLETELY, BLACK SCREEN. NO AC, NO TURN SIGNAL AVAILABLE.
MCU COMPUTER IS BLACKING OUT AND REQUIRES CONSTANT RESETS. CONNECTION TO THE APP IS SPOTY. COMPUTER SHOWING SIGNS IF NOT WORKING PROPERLY. REPORTED TO TESLA. WAS TOLD THEY CLEARED MY MEMORY AND THEY ARE 'DIVERTING MY CONCERNS'
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE VEHICLE WAS AT A STAND STILL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START-UP DUE TO THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT BEING INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE CHARGING TO BE SLOW. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATIONS AFTER 5 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TESLA LOCATED AT 5544 OKEECHOBEE BLVD, WEST PALM BEACH, FL 33417, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. AN EMAIL WAS SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. *LN*JB
MCU - MASTER CONTROL UNIT HAS FAILED (CENTER TOUCHSCREEN). WITHOUT IT, THE TURN SIGNALS, HVAC, RADIO, REVERSE CAMERA, GPS AND REMOTE CONNECTIVITY DO NOT FUNCTION.
MY MCU FAILED WHICH CAUSED A SERIES OF SAFETY ISSUES. THE BACKUP CAMERA NO LONGER WORKS. I CAN NOT CONTROL EXTERIOR LIGHTS. I CANNOT USE THE FRONT OR REAR DEFROSTER WHICH IS PROBLEMATIC SINCE THE AC IS STUCK ON THE ON POSITION WHICH CAUSES CONDENSATION TO FORM ON THE WINDSHIELD, BUT WITHOUT DEFROST CONTROL I CANNOT EFFECTIVELY CLEAR THE WINDOW. IN ADDITIONAL ALL SOUNDS ARE DISABLED WHICH MEANS SAFETY SYSTEMS SUCH AS TURN SIGNALS AND OTHER WARNINGS SUCH AS FORWARD COLLISION WARNING DO NOT WORK NOR CAN THESE SYSTEMS BE ADJUSTED.
THE MAIN SCREEN IN MY TESLA OFTEN EXPERIENCES LONG START TIMES, SHUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY OR SURFACE STREET, LIMITING ABILITY TO CONTROL HEADLIGHTS, REAR VIEW CAMERA, OR OPERATE DEFROSTERS AND TURN SIGNALS. ONE INSTANCE, I WAS UNABLE TO SWITCH ON HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING. ANOTHER TIME I WAS UNABLE TO ACTIVATE MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL WHILE DRIVING, INSTEAD THE CAR ACTIVATED A PORTION OF THE LEFT HEADLIGHT. I FREQUENTLY NEED TO FOLLOW A REBOOT PROCESS ON VEHICLE START IN ORDER TO DRIVE. THE DELAY IN OR NEED TO REBOOT PRIOR TO VEHICLE STARTUP HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY IN RECENT MONTHS. I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED GARBLED DISPLAY GRAPHICS WHILE DRIVING, REQUIRING THE NEED TO REBOOT (ONE OR MORE TIMES) TO OPERATE VEHICLE FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND SERVICE CENTER INFORMED ME THAT THE MCU COMPUTER WILL FAIL IN APPROX. 1-1.5 YEARS, BUT COULD NOT BE REPLACED NOW.
PLEASE ADD THIS INCIDENT TO YOUR TESLA BATTERY FIRES INVESTIGATION. I HAVE USED THE VIN FROM ANOTHER WRECKED TESLA SINCE I DO NOT HAVE THE VIN FOR THE TESLA WHICH BURNED TO A CRISP IN THIS INCIDENT. THE FIRE IS FEROCIOUS AND CONTINUES TO REIGNITE EVEN WHEN THE FIREFIGHTERS ARE BLASTING IT WITH WATER. THIS FIRE COULD EASILY HAVE KILLED AN ENTIRE FAMILY. CENTER CONTROL SCREEN WENT DEAD. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN PARKING LOT WHEN FAILURE OCCURRED.
THE CENTER CONSOLE ON OUR CAR DIED 4 YEARS AND ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE (ONE MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY). THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. FORTUNATELY THE CAR IS IN THE GARAGE; WE HAVE HAD THE CONSOLE DIE PREVIOUSLY DURING DRIVING, WHICH IS SUPER SCARY. THE MCU UNIT IS BAD. OUR CAR ONLY HAS 25K MILES ON IT. MANY OTHER OLDER TESLAS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.
THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE LARGE CENTER SCREEN THAT CONTROLS ALMOST EVERYTHING EXCEPT DRIVING THE CAR. IT WOULD FREEZE AND STOP ALL CONTROL OF NAVIGATION, AC, AUDIO, OTHER AUXILIARY FUNCTION. I HAD IT REPAIRED AT LEAST 10 TIMES. MOST RECENT PROBLEM IT HAS FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS IS ALL AUDIO FUNCTION STOPPED WORKING. NO AUDIO AT ALL, EVEN WHEN TURN SIGNAL WAS ON. IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE MINUTE TO START UP THE VEHICLE EVERY TIME.
FOR MULTIPLE MONTHS MY CENTER SCREEN OF MY 2016 MODEL S 90D HAS BEEN FREEZING, DISPLAYING STRANGE CHARACTERS, TAKING A LONG TIME TO RESPOND, AND REBOOTING. UPON ENTERING MY VEHICLE TODAY THE SCREEN FAILED TO TURN ON. AFTER PERFORMING A RESET WHICH FAILED, AND CONTINUING TO DRIVE, THE SCREEN REBOOTED WHILE DRIVING. ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER, UPON ENTERING MY CAR TO DRIVE HOME, THE SCREEN WAS AGAIN DEAD. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, REVERSE CAMERA, AUDIO CHIMES, HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS, AUTOPILOT, ETC DO NOT WORK. TESLA SERVICE IS BOOKED OUT FOR OVER A WEEK.
CENTRAL TOUCH SCREEN UNIT ALSO KNOWN AS MCU1 THAT CONTROLS MOST OF THE VEHICLE'S FUNCTIONS IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. RESPONSE TIME IS VERY SLOW, IT LAGS AND RAMDOMLY RESTARTS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

THE BACK WHEEL HAS BEEN WRENCHED OFF BY THE TORQUE OF THE MOTOR. ALL OF THE SUSPENSION LINKS AND ALSO THE CAST LOWER ARM HAVE SNAPPED. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY SIMILAR FAILURES IN TESLAS THAT IT IS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THE SUSPENSION PARTS ARE TOO WEAK FOR THE JOB. THIS IS GETTING SILLY. MCU FAILURE: DISPLAY WENT DARK, TURNING SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING (NOT SURE ABOUT EXTERNAL BUT INTERNAL DIDN'T BLINK), CLIMATE CONTROL AND MOST CONSOLE SYSTEMS WERE LOCKED AND UNABLE TO CHANGE. SEEMED LIKE MOST AUXILIARY SYSTEMS FAILED.
THE MAIN CONTROL SCREEN HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY INACTIVE OR BLACK. ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THE CAR IS CONTROLLED BY THIS SCREEN. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO FIX IT FOR OVER TWO YEARS ON OVER SIX OCCASIONS WITH NO RESOLUTION. THE SCREEN NOW AT 64K MILES IS TOTALLY DEAD AND WILL NOT RESTART. IT DISABLES THE ABILITY TO CHARGE THE MOTOR DRIVE SYSTEM BATTERY, THE AC HEAT AND DEFROSTER SYSTEM, CONTROL OF THE LIGHTS AND WIPERS. ACCORDING TO THOUSANDS OF WEB PAGES THIS ISSUE IS CAUSED BY SOFTWARE DISABLING THE MAIN FILE SYSTEM MEMORY CHIP PREMATURELY. TELSA SERVICE WANTS ME TO PAY $1146 TO FIX THIS OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT MULTIPLE TIMES DURING WARRANTY. IT MAKES THE CAR USELESS AND UNSAFE AND THERE SHOULD BE A FACTORY RECALL ISSUED.
MEDIA CONTROL UNIT CONSTANTLY REBOOTING WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF NAVIGATION, REARVIEW CAMERA, HAND FREE, DRIVER ASSIST SAFETY CONTROLS ETC. MEMORY CARD FAILING IN UNIT. THIS HAS BEEN GETTING STEADILY WORSE OVER THE LAST THREE MONTHS. THE LAST OCCURRENCE WAS 6/30/2020. *TR
CENTER SCREEN GOES DARK AND NO ACCESS TO CONTROLS DURING DRIVING. IT HAPPENS WHEN BACKING UP OR RANDOMLY DURING DRIVING. TESLA FIRST SENT A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND SCHEDULED A MOBILE TECHNICIAN VISIT. AFTER THE SOFTWARE THEY SENT I WAS TOLD IT'S TAKEN CAR AND CANCELLED THE JULY 2ND 2020 TECHNICIAN VISIT. ON 6/30/2020 AFTER THE UPDATE THE SCREEN WENT BLAND AND YESTERDAY 7/1/2020 THEY SCHEDULE A SERVICE CENTER VISIT ON THE 7/17/2020 IN BLOOMINGTON IL, THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE. YESTERDAY NIGHT 7/2/2020 I GOT A EMAIL THAT PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED, MY CONCERN IS THAT THEY MIGHT USE REFURBISHED PARTS OR USE THE SAME DEFECTIVE SCREEN AND I WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN FUTURE.
MCU FAILURE WHEN MY CAR JUST RAN OUT OF WARRANTY. I REPORTED ISSUE WITH CAR COMPUTER BOOTING WHEN CAR WAS IN WARRANTY LAST YEAR: THE POWER UP TIME SEEMS LESS RESPONSIVE, THE TOUCHSCREEN BECAME LESS RESPONSIVE AND WOULD FREEZE AT TIME. TESLA SERVICE CENTER DID A "BANDAID" FIX AT THE TIME. MY MCU COMPLETE FAILURE NOW, WITH NO CENTER SCREEN, NO REAR CAMERA, NO SIGNAL LIGHTS WHICH MAKE IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER WAITING FOR APPOINTMENT FOR 3 WEEKS WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY WIFE'S CAR TO WORK, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO TESLA SERVICE CENTER, TOLD OUT OF WARRANTY, AND ALSO TOLD MCU PART IN BACKORDER AND NOT AVAILABLE, WHILE TESLA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE (THEY SENT ME AN EMAIL LAST WEEK TO AUTHORIZE A MCU REPLACEMENT). I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FAULT OF THE CAR THAT THIS MCU SHOULD BE RECALL AND REPLACE, AS I HAVE READ TESLA IS AWARE OF THIS AND UPGRADED A NEW MCU SINCE 2018.
I DIDN'T REALIZE WE CAN MAKE COMPLAINTS. THE TOUCH SCREEN CONSTANTLY BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE ON MY TESLA. I ALWAYS HAVE TO REBOOT IT IN ORDER TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. SYSTEM HAS BECOME QUITE SLUGGISH AND UNRELIABLE.
MCU BLACKED OUT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND WHEN PARKED (SOMETIMES WHILE IN REVERSE). 'AUTOPILOT FEATURES UNAVAILABLE' AND 'CENTER DISPLAY UNAVAILABLE' ERROR MESSAGES. REAR VIEW CAMERA WAS NOT AVAILABLE. CAR STARTUP AND REBOOTS TOOK EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME. NAVIGATION AND VOICE COMMANDS WERE INOPERATIVE OR UNUSABLE DUE TO DELAY / INACCURACY. WEB BROWSER AND SCREEN RENDERING WERE INCREASINGLY DELAYED. ALL HAPPENED THE DAY AFTER FULL SELF DRIVE UPGRADE WAS INSTALLED ON 6/26/2020 WITH 30K MILES. TESLA REPLACED REAR CAMERA, WIRING FROM REAR CAMERA TO MCU (8/10/2020 WITH 31.4K MILES) AND, ULTIMATELY, THE REPLACED THE MCU WITH THE SAME OLD MCU (TEGRA CHIPSET, 8GB EMMC ON 8/26/2020 WITH 31.5K MILES). LOGS WITH DATES, TIMES AND SYMPTOMS AVAILABLE, ALONG WITH TESLA SERVICE REPAIR INVOICES WITH DATES, MILEAGE AND PARTS REPLACED.
MY CAR'S CENTER SCREEN CONSOLE STOPPED WORKING AFTER AN UPDATE. I COULD NOT RESET IT AND SO IT STAYS BLANK USING RESET INSTRUCTIONS FROM TESLA. I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO MY TURN SIGNALS, BACKUP CAMERA, CABIN AND CLIMATE CONTROLS MAKING IT LESS SAFE FOR THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN IT HAPPENED. I BELIEVE AND BASED ON CONVERSATION WITH TESLA THIS IS AN MCU PROBLEM WITH THEY HAVE ME PAY $2500 TO UPGRADE. I THINK THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS DESIGN FAULT AND SHOULD BE SUBJECT FOR RECALL AS THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT THE VEHICLE CANNOT HANDLE DATA THEY ARE PUSHING TO THE VEHICLE VIA SOFTWARE UPDATE.
THE COMPUTER UNIT ON MY TESLA MODEL S OCCASIONALLY EITHER GOES BLACK OR GETS PIXILATED AND TURNS INTO ALL KINDS OF RAINBOW COLORS AND STOPS BEING FUNCTIONAL. THIS IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING BECAUSE ALL OF THE VEHICLE INFORMATION AND CONTROLS ARE PROCESSED THROUGH THE UNIT. *TR
TESLA MCU (MEDIA CONTROL UNIT) HAS WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED EMMC CHIP THAT WILL FAIL ON ALL MODEL S AND X CARS FROM 2012 TO SUMMER 2018. THIS WAS A RESULT OF TESLA ENGINEERING WRITING THEIR LOGS TO THE EMMC WHICH HAS LIMITED NUMBER OF WRITE CYCLES, TESLA HAS SINCE RESOLVED WHERE LOGS ARE WRITTEN BUT THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. TESLA REFUSES TO ACCEPT THIS MISTAKE AND WILL CHARGE USERS $1300+ TO REPLACE. WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS THE FOLLOWING SAFETY ISSUES HAPPEN BLINKERS DO NOT WORK. DRIVE AFTER A 30 SECOND TIMEOUT NO AEB (ADVANCED EMERGENCY BRAKING) NO CONTROLLING SUSPENSION HEIGHT NO MANUAL CONTROL OF HEADLIGHT LIGHTS NO BLINKER SOUNDS STEERING MODE DEFAULTS TO SOME SETTING (E.G. IF I HAVE IT SET TO SPORT, DURING REBOOT OF MCU IS CHANGES TO STANDARD OR COMFORT, NOT SURE BUT I CAN FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL TAKE LESS EFFORT TO TURN THAN MY NORMAL SPORT MODE) NO HVAC (HEAT, COOL, VENT) NO DEFROSTERS NO SEAT HEATERS NO STEERING WHEEL HEATERS NO RADIO/STREAMING NO APP CONNECTIVITY TO CONTROL THE CAR NO ABILITY TO SEE THE CAR CHARGE STATUS FROM APP TRIP A/B PROFILES USER SETTINGS HOMELINK BLUETOOTH PAIRINGS NO REAR VIEW CAMERA THIS ISSUES HAPPENING TO ALL MODELS WORLD WIDE REFERENCE THIS POST TO SEE THE HUNDREDS OF USERS THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS AND FORCE TO SEEK ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF REPAIR THAT IS NOT TESLA APPROVED. AT WHICH AT ANY POINT TESLA COULD REMOVE FEATURES FROM CARS FOR NOT USING ONE OF THEIR APPROVED SERVICE CENTERS. THE MAIN TOUCHED WHICH CONTROLS MAJORITY OF CAR FUNCTIONS JUST RANDOMLY FREEZES. THE CAR IS DRIVABLE, BUT BARELY. AC BLOWS AIR AT FULL BLAST BUT DOESN'T COOL, SIGNALS DON'T WORK, LIGHTS ARE STUCK EITHER ON OR OFF. ETC. CAN'T LOCK THE DOOR. DEFROST CANNOT BE ACTIVATED. SO IT'S NOT TRIVIAL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AIM FREEWAY AT 65 STARTED HAVING SYSTEM FAILURE. FIRST THE GPS, THEN AIR CONDITIONING, THEN REAR VIEW CAMERA, THEN RADIO. THE RISKY ONE WAS AIR CONDITIONING. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS 110 F. OUTSIDE OF QUARTZSITE, AZ. *TR
DOOR HANDLE FAILURE. THE DOOR PHYSICALLY OPENS BY ITSELF ONCE THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK AND HANDLE EXTENDS. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE HANDLES REPLACED ALREADY, EITHER DUE TO NOT EXTENDING, SO NO ABILITY TO USE AND OPEN CAR DOOR AT ALL, EXTENDING BUT NOT FUNCTIONING, NOT RETRACTING, AND EXTENDING AND PHYSICALLY OPENING THE DOOR WITH NO OCCUPANT INTERACTION. HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. CURRENT FAILURE COULD ALLOW AN EXTERNAL THREAT INTO THE VEHICLE WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN THE PARK (SUCH AS CARJACKER, RIOTER ETC...) MY PREVIOUS MODEL S HAD OVER 15 DOOR HANDLES REPLACED DUE TO A MIXTURE OF THE SAME ABOVE ISSUES. THIS IS OUT OF HAND, A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
THE BIG SCREEN FOR ENTERTAINMENT GET BLACK AFTER 60000MILES AND NEVER GET BACK. CONTACT WITH SERVICE CENTER, THEY POINT OUT IT FAILED BECAUSE OF FAILURE OF MCU PART. AS HEARED VIA INTERNET, ITS REASON MAYBE OUT OF MEMORY BECAUSE OF LOGGING FILES. AND FOR A 100K+ CAR CAN NOT HANDLE WITH THIS, I AM SUPRISED. AND IT DEFINITELY A TIME BOMB.
CENTER SCREEN SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING DUE TO A 'MCU' FAILURE (DIAGNOSED BY TESLA SERVICE). I LOST ABILITY TO CONTROL TAILLIGHTS, REARVIEW CAMERA, HIGH BEAMS, CLIMATE CONTROL, CHARGING INFORMATION, NAVIGATION, PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR. I WAS DRIVING ON A MULTI LANE HIGHWAY WHEN IT FAILED. DRIVETRAIN, BRAKES AND STEERING SEEM UNAFFECTED. AT TESLA SERVICE THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE, AND ONE OF THE RESETS DISABLED TURN SIGNALS, WHICH IS A LEGAL ISSUE IN ADDITION TO SAFETY. THE SCREEN HAD REBOOTED SEVERAL TIMES ON ITS OWN IN THE PRECEDING WEEKS.
MCU SLOWS DOWN AND EVENTUALLY STOPS WORKING LEADING TO REPLACEMENT ON CARS MAYBE 2 YEARS OLD. *TR
MY MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) HAS FAILED AND TESLA IS SLOW TO PROVIDE ME A REPLACEMENT. THEY CLAIM THAT I WILL BE PROVIDED A "REFURBISHED UNIT" AS SOON AS ONE BECOMES AVAILABLE. THE MCU FAILURE HAS IMPACTED MY CARS REAR BACKUP CAMERA, THE CHARGING SYSTEM, THE ABILITY TO TURN ON/OFF HEADLIGHTS AND FOGS LIGHTS, DRIVER SETTINGS SUCH AS STEERING (RIDE SELECTION), FRONT CRASH WARNINGS, ETC. MY TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT RESPONDING EITHER, AND I'M GRAVELY CONCERNED ABOUT OTHER SAFETY FEATURES FAILING WITHOUT THIS COMPONENT BEING REPLACED. TESLA ACTS LIKE IT'S MAIN PURPOSE IS FOR MEDIA LIKE NAVIGATION, MUSIC, ETC. BUT AS I STATED, SEVERAL ITEMS ARE DIRECT SAFETY HAZARDS. MY MODEL S HAS ALSO BEEN HAVING SCREEN AND REAR CAMERA ISSUES. ATLEAST TWICE A WEEK THE SCREEN GOES BLACK THEN FLASHES BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS WARM OUT. OTHER TIMES THE SCREEN LAGS AND THE REAR VIEW CAMERA EITHER STOPS WORKING OR HAS GLITCHES WHERE IT WILL PAUSE OR LAG. IT ACTUALLY CAUSED ME TO DAMAGE MY CAR BY BACKING INTO SOMETHING. *TR
CAR MCU (MAIN COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE VEHICLE SYSTEMS) FAILED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU LOSE TURN SIGNALS AND A/C AMONG OTHER VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS. APPARENTLY THIS HAS BECOME SO COMMON MOST TESLA OWNERS I HEAR FROM HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS AT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. YOU CAN'T USE THE CAR UNLESS IT'S REPLACED AS SO MUCH DEPENDS ON IT (LIKE TURN SIGNALS & OTHER SAFETY FEATURES). TESLA SAYS IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE FIRST GENERATION (MCU1) HAS A MEMORY ISSUE THAT WILL CAUSE THIS FOR ALL OF THEM EVENTUALLY. YOUR ONLY CHOICE IS A REPLACEMENT (THAT WE ARE TOLD IS DEFECTIVE LIKE THE ORIGINAL) OR A FEW HUNDRED MORE FOR AN UPGRADE TO MCU2 WHICH TESLA DAYS THE DEFECT IS FIXED AND WON'T HAPPEN WITH. I FEEL BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT AFFECTS LEGALLY REQUIRED ITEMS LIKE TURN SIGNALS AND OTHER SAFETY FEATURES, THAT TESLA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL OR PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT AT NO COST TO OWNERS.
THE TOUCHSCREEN WHICH CONTROLS EVERYTHING INCLUDING CLIMATE, NAVIGATION, REAR VIEW CAMERA, SUN ROOF, WINDSHIELD HEATER , MUSIC ETC *EXTREMELY SLOWED DOWN* AFTER UPGRADING THE AUTOPILOT HARDWARE TO FULL SELF DRIVING (FSD) COMPUTER. THE TOUCH SCREEN RESPONSE IS VERY SLOW OR OFTEN FAILS. NOW TESLA IS ASKING $2500 TO UPGRADE FOR FASTER & MORE RESPONSIVE TOUCH SCREEN. I BELIEVE THE LATEST FSD UPGRADES & OVER THE AIR UPGRADES ARE SHOWERING THE RESPONSE OF OLDER CARS AND TESLA IS MONETIZING THIS OPPORTUNITY
ECU1 IS FAILING. MEMORY CHIP, PAINT ON MIRROR PEELING.
THE MCU FAILED EARLY WHICH CAUSES THE ENTIRE CAR TO BE UNDRIVABLE. THE CAR WILL NOT UNLOCK AND THE DRIVER DOES HAS ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THIS WAS KNOWN FLAW BY TESLA AND INSTEAD OF FIXING IT UNDER WARRANTY, THEY ARE CHARGING THE OWNERS $2000-$5000 TO REPAIR.
THE CENTER SCREENING (MCU) IS DEFECTIVE. IT OFTEN WILL BE REBOOTING BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. WHILE THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE MEAN DRIVE MOTOR FUNCTIONS, IT DOES AFFECT THE BACKUP CAMERA. ALSO THE RANDOM REBOOT IS DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH TESLA MCU1 UNITS.
