The steering, over three days has rapidly deteriorated. Working the steering wheel between +/- 15 degrees is fine. At 45 and 90 degrees there is significant resistance to turning. I believe the 2017 model is also prone to intermediate shaft U-joint failure.
Control arm and both front struts failed
The vehicle brakes are aggressively applied at random times when traveling on the freeway. This only appears to happen when the vehicles TACC (Traffic Aware Cruise Control) is enabled. Thankfully I have not been rear ended yet. My family's safety is in danger when TACC is enabled. Not only am I concerned we could be rear ended, but I am concerned someone could think I am "brake checking" them and then proceed to act violently (road rage). There is a particular stretch of highway where this happens 100% of the time that would allow me to reproduce the occurrence on demand for investigative purposes.
Starting on May 5, 2022, my car has been plagued with numerous errors messages that stated multiple features of my car were malfunctioning/disabled, both while I first got into the car, and also occurring suddenly without any warning while the car was IN MOTION on the road. This included loss of power steering, traction control, stability control, parking brake, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure avoidance . The same problem(loss of all these vital features) has recurred many times on May 22nd, May 31st, July 8th, and most recently, September 14th. Each time I brought the car in to the Tesla service center, they would have absolutely no idea what was causing the same exact issues. At the very first visit, they stated the incorrect-sized tires were likely the culprit. Even after the correct sized tires were put on, the same problems returned weeks later. Another time they replaced the MCU, but again the problem returned. Every time I brought the car in, they would basically return the car with no definitive repairs done as by the time they started working on my car, all the errors had disappeared, and they would declare the car as being "fixed". After 5 visits for the SAME EXACT problem over the past 5 months, it is extremely clear that Tesla has no idea what is wrong with the car, and keeps returning the car to me without permanently solving the problem. At this point, I feel this car should not be on the road as I could lose vital controls(power steering, brakes, etc) all of a sudden with no warning, exposing the passengers inside, and all vehicles and pedestrians around it to serious, life-threatening danger. Despite this grave risk, Tesla has refused to buy the car back even though it still has an active factory warranty, claiming that it is past the two-year buy-back window, and the fact that it already has a lemon title(for a completely different issue) from 2019. It is just a matter of time before a serious accident happens.
The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model-X. The contact stated while parked in a parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal and was not sure if she had placed the vehicle into reverse, the vehicle accelerated backward and hit the back wall across from her parked vehicle. The vehicle trunk lid and the bumper were damaged and crumpled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer but was advised by the manufacturer to take the vehicle to a body shop. The vehicle had not been repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would lurch forward when it would be placed into drive. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
Driver display fails. Speed is shown incorrectly, then screen blacks out, Tesla symbol appears and then restarts. Unit has been brought in for repairs and was replaced with remanufactured part. Problem persists. Infotainment unit was repaired with remanufactured part to upgrade memory deficiency from 8 gb to 64gb. Problems with unit remains the same. Unit will crash, not respond to verbal commands, turn signal will not chime, information will not display, climate control will fail.
The steering as getting harder and harder to turn. I checked the steering rack and it was clean but the U joint had completely rusted. I lubricated it and the steering improved. After around a year, it happened again and I repeated it. They have an upgraded replacement part but are not recalling the defective original. Can you help?
We were experiencing very difficult turning at low speeds. No vehicle warnings occurred. We took the vehicle in to Tesla service for evaluation. We were told the vehicle was unsafe to drive and they would not allow us to take the vehicle home. They have had the vehicle for 3 weeks and have replaced the "steering column" or "Left-Hand Steering Gear" on service estimate, but in the process have not fixed the problem and are now on week 4 of the repair. In investigating steering issues with Tesla, there appears to be a recall issued for 2015 and 2016 model years involving the steering column. We believe the same issue is affecting our 2017 Model and is in need of a recall as well.
Loud creaking noise on the front passenger side. This seems to be a very common model X problem. I was told the front upper control arms need to be replaced. I see absolutely no reason why any of those parts should be failing unless it was faulty parts/engineering.
Driving the model X has been difficult lately since the steering is extremely stiff. Tesla service scheduled me to replace intermediate 1st generation Shaft, steering column, lower dual motor. They will replace lower shaft on left hand drive & replaced steering I-shaft link upper.
Repeated failure of driver's screen. Screen goes blank and then reboots automatically. During that time, the speedometer and all other controls visible from driver's screen are unavailable to the driver. Was told that it would be fixed by a software fix eventually. Now they will fix the problem for $2,000. Will ask them to save all parts.
Since installing the latest update (2021.24.48), my vehicle is suddenly experiencing: * frequent bogus forward collision warnings (several per day) * instrument cluster outages (black screen) * sudden autopilot shutdowns caused by center display communication failures (MCU) Other people with significantly different configurations (e.g. with the eMMC repair done, with autopilot hardware version 1, etc.) have experienced similar failures. This seems to be a very serious software regression that needs to be addressed immediately.
Firmware version: 2020.48.37.8 Date of Occurrence: 2/18/22 Location: I66 Westbound Description: On I66 Westbound near Rt123 Exit the car was traveling at 70mph and decreased 50mph. The car was on full autopilot. Set speed limit changed from 70 to 50mph but signage and the car's perceived speed limit was 55mph. No cars ahead of me to initiate the rapid deacceleration. The occurrence happened between 8 to 8:15AM. Weather was partly cloudy. Second occurrence of rapid deacceleration occurred on the same commute. On I66 Westbound near Rt50 the car was traveling at 70mph and the vehicle decreased speed to 30mph. The autopilot set to 70mph and rapidly deaccelerated to 30mph. Cars ahead were several car lengths away. No braking or deacceleration was observed by the cars ahead. The occurrence happened between 8:15 to 8:30AM. Weather was partly cloudy. Note, this issue has happened multiple times over the last 6 months. Didn't realize that this issue was reportable. Rapid deacceleration is fairly common event and has been observed on I66 (both directions), I95, RT28, RT29, I70, and I270.
The car, while "autopilot is engaged" will slam on the brakes on the highway for no reason. It is extremely scary and happens frequently.
Pulling in to slowly park and sudden unanticipated acceleration-pushed car into brick roof support of building. Damage to bumper.
While on autopilot at highway speeds, car randomly and suddenly brakes rapidly for no reason. Happens during day, at night, on different roads, in different conditions. No warning lights or alarms.
Tesla Full Self Driving FSD is too dangerous for public street experiments. The video evidence is not from my vehicle but mine does sudden automatic unexpected swerving the same way: Twitter video shows the automatic system swerved toward a bicyclist and the driver was able to grab the steering wheel to manually abort the system. This automatic system with numerous close calls should not use the public as dummies for testing. https://twitter.com/TaylorOgan/status/1491224700303060992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1491224700303060992%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fteslamotorsclub.com%2Ftmc%2Fthreads%2Ffsd-beta-videos-and-questions-for-fsd-beta-drivers.210858%2Fpage-268
Tesla Full Self Driving FSD is too dangerous for public street experiments. The video evidence is not from my vehicle but mine does not recognize many obstacles that increase the risks of collisions: The YouTube video shows the automatic system failed to recognize the green bollard and even with the quick intervention from a claimed well experienced FSD driver, the car collided with the green bollard. The public should not be forced to be at risk for allowing this automatic system with numerous dangerous behaviors to experiment on the public street. Tesla should have tested this in its closed course by building its own green bollard and then it can crash all it wants but not at the expense of public safety. https://youtu.be/Zl9rM8D3k34
Touchscreen turns off/goes blank while driving; lose air conditioning, rear view camera, etc. Dash Screen widgets/displays do not load and flashes between light gray and back to black while driving. I received a recall notice for the vehicle/touchscreen eMMC. I previously brought my vehicle in service in Nov, 2021 and received the vehicle back in Dec, 2021 and noticed no better functionality with the new 64gb part vs the old 8gb part. I later received a software update around February 2022 (software version 2021.24, about 12months after initial release). Immediately after that software update I began having the above issues with the Touchscreen and Dash screen. I called technical support over the phone and they said my vehicle was eligible for the recall (which I thought had been completed) and advised I make a service appointment for the eMMC recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact initially stated that the MCU screen would intermittently go blank while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V035000 (Back Over Prevention, Visibility, Exterior Lighting) and once parts were available, the vehicle was repaired. A few days after the repair, the contact stated that the screen intermittently failed without warning while driving. The contact took the vehicle back to the service center and was informed that he could either replace the entire instrument cluster screen or pay for a new chip (EMMC2) to update the instrument panel. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Steering suddenly becomes challangeing, when operating on winding roads the steering wheel fails to easily return to normal and must apply more force than normal to bring back to straight direction. Generally balky at times.
. December 2021, I stopped car at traffic light in Stevenson Ranch, CA 91381. Light turn blue but the car can’t start, key fob and tesla app not working. I restarted my phone then Tesla app working back. Took more than 10 minutes. . January 2022, I stopped at traffic light on Siarra Highway, Santa Clarita CA 91351. Light turn blue but car can’t start, key fob and tesla app not working. I have to restarted my phone in order for Tesla app working back. Took more than 10 minutes. We just had a new born so we feel very unsafe with this vehicle. And Tesla just ignore this matter. . 1 time car not working in garage for more than 24 hours so I called Tesla Roadside Assistant to tow to Tesla dealership. All they done was replaced key fob battery even I had mentioned about the incidents above. . Many times that car just close the door by itself ( left front driver, left and right falcon door, trunk ). Yesterday February 17th I was in Van Nuy CA ( 99 Ranch market loading groceries in to car ) trunk close bump on my head.
The front air suspension perfectly failed right after 4 years manufacture warranty. It is life-threatening since my right front suspension drops all the way down. If this happens when I'm on a highway at high speed, it might kill me.
Screen goes blank from time to time. Takes a long time for the car to power on.
I bought Model X in 2017. Soon the suspension system failed and they had to replace the whole system. Again in Dec,2021 the whole system failed. I was given a quote for $5000 for replacing the compressor and the suspension. When they replaced the whole system back in 2019 I told them the car doesn't seem fine with suspension but they said they will extend the warranty if anything happens to it. But they didn't note that in the system and now they said replaced parts has only 1 year warranty and I have to pay out of pocket for the suspension in 2021.
My headlights always tuned on automatically whenever the windshield wipers would turn on as required by Florida law. After a software update a few months ago, this functionality is no longer occurring. I must now manually turn on the headlights if it is raining and my windshield wipers turn on. I reported this to my local Tesla Service Center, and they were aware of the issue and stated that a future software update would correct this issue and return the functionality. I am still waiting for this to be corrected. Not only does this lead to a safety issue, but it also violates state law if the wipers turn on in the rain and the lights do not. Please note that I received a software update (2021.44.5) last night and this issue is still not corrected or addressed.
At 1:10 pm on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 we were travelling SB on I-5 near Longview, WA. The day was clear and dry. We were in Lane 2 of a 3-lane stretch of interstate. There were no vehicles in either lane right next to us; a semi-truck was in Lane 1 (outside lane) several car lengths in front of us; a passenger car was 1-2 car lengths behind us in the same lane as us (Lane 2). No overpasses, trees, or any other discernable distractions were present. We were travelling at 70 mph on cruise control. With no warning, the car braked suddenly in an effort to bring the car to a full stop. Fortunately, the driver directly behind us was paying attention and was able to swerve into Lane 3 to avoid rear-ending us. I was able to bring my car into the Tesla location in Lynnwood, WA for service on November 12, 2021 to have the issue checked. While in for service, I did some research on the issue and found blogs dating to 2018 about "phantom braking"; I determined this described our situation. When I collected the car, the service tech said they were unable to replicate the issue and therefore, were not able to establish a problem to correct. I inquired if they knew about a phantom braking issue; they indicated that Telsa had heard of it and was working on a "fix" but there was no known timeline for the "fix". I have not used the cruise control feature in my car since 11/10/21 and will not because of the significant safety concern. Tesla need to be MADE to make this safety issue a priority to correct. If Musk's team can build a rocket and send it to space, they certainly can correct a cruise control issue.
While driving my model X on highway, making quick turns on the power steering wheel felt too stiff in order to avoid car or objects. I took it to Tesla service center for inspection and confirmed the issue with the suspension. The replaced Front suspension, lower -Aft-LH/RH. Parts they replaced, Washer cam, Bolt H cam, Washer, Nordlock, Front suspension AFT link, Nut CLN HEX, NUT HF & adjusted camber caster toe. MCU unit continuous crashes or freezing & slow response, web browser, map and slow response to access A/C, I had to pay to replace MCU unit.
Manufacturer Recall NumberSB2121001 NHTSA Recall Number21V035 For the above recall numbers - I contacted Tesla shortly after I became aware of the recalls. I was told that they would reach out to me within 6-8 weeks to schedule the repair. To date, no Tesla Advisor has contacted me to schedule a repair. Subsquent follow ups, various Tesla staff tell us different remedies, incuding some Tesla staff that tell us a recall is no longer required due to an OTA firmware update. However, issues with the emmc continue to happen (losing the main screen, random freezes/reboots while driving, and turn signals not operating intermittently when the screen is frozen) and the recall language seems to indicate that a physical repair is still needed. Thanks for your assistance and all you do.
During hard rainfall the software of the vehicle issues an error: the windshield wipers, headlights, taillights and turn signal all stop working. Lane assist and parking assist fail as well. Sometimes the vehicle shifts into park when you stop. After stopping the vehicle, the doors won't open so you cannot exit the car. It does not matter if the car is moving or stationary when the software fails. You have to reboot the car and hope it resolves, usually it doesn't, or most often just wait to time the software glitch for the moment when the functions are temporarily enabled, specifically when trying to exit the car. We have taken this vehicle to Tesla for this issue multiple times and they have not solved it. This vehicle is a safety hazard, and a legal issue since the headlights and taillights go out, leaving you to drive without them in the dark.
I have popped multiple tires on the railroad tracks on Harry Bridges but this time it ruined TWO rims as well as popping the tires. It's directly next to my job site and have no way of avoiding it. Please help.
As I was backing out of my driveway the passenger side front tire detached from the axel for no apparent reason. There was no accident, alert, or indication of anything being wrong with the vehcile.
Whenever I turn the steering wheel, the squeaking noise appear. I contacted the service center, without seeing my car, they know that I have to replace the both side front upper control arms which made me believe there is a well-known defect with it. The control arms plays very important role in steering the car, if there is a defect and Tesla won't recall it then it might kill someone after the driver can't control the car due to the defected upper arm.
The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while reversing there was no image displayed on the infotainment screen. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The contact stated that the center front camera failed to record. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that no failure was found. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V035000 (Back Over Prevention, Visibility, Exterior Lighting) and scheduled an appointment with the dealer however, the dealer cancelled the appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
Our SUV lost power in the middle of the highway with no warning. After a month of back and forth, Tesla is saying that the High Voltage Battery needs to be replaced. The car has been with Tesla Marietta, GA center waiting for the replacement part with no ETA. How long are we supposed to allow the manufacturer to address the problem per the manufacturer warranty.
2016-2017 Model X SUV: a possible front suspension link issue that can cause the tire to rub against the wheel arch. The attached picture shows an excessive wear of inside shoulder.
The contact owned a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact's husband stated while driving 70 mph, a strange noise was heard coming from the rear driver side of the vehicle which resulted in the contact's husband losing control of the vehicle and collided with the median which brought the vehicle to a stop. None of the air bags deployed but no one was inquired and a police report was taken. The vehicle was towed to a junkyard where it was determined to be destroyed. The contact stated no warning lights was illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while exiting the driveway and attempting to make a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the steering wheel would continually go from difficult to maneuver to loose while driving. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The specific issue happen while I was I was pulling out of my driveway. The front passenger side suddenly started squeaking. After getting on the highway and accelerating, the car started shaking, and making louder and louder noises. Inspecting the assembly next to the front passenger side tire, I saw that the control arm assembly was making metal on metal contact and the wheel was not horizontally in place (it wiggles on steering). I took the car to the service center. They confirmed that the control arm assembly is corroded and that the issue could cause an accident if it happens while driving as I could lose steering control.
The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, both center display screens turned off inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local Tesla Service Center where the computer software was updated and reset however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local Tesla Service Center where it was diagnosed that both center display screens needed to be replaced. The center display screens were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the Tesla Service Center where it was diagnosed that the center displays needed to be replaced with upgraded parts. The contact stated that he was informed that the repair would not be covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
The rear camber arms of both Tesla Model S and X suspension have fixed camber angle that only grows wider as the time passes, that would cause the inner side of tires to wear out more rapidly than the mid or outer tire sides. Tesla doesn’t offer a camber arm that is adjustable in order to fix this alignment issue. Due to this the tires blow out prematurely and can potentially cause severe accidents. Tesla doesn’t acknowledge this as a design defect to replace this as safety problem, hence I am reporting it here to investigate the matter.
The hardware for the over all running of the car is failing. Maps do not load or load very slowly when on a trip the supercharge locations do not load or load very slowly, could lead to running out of charge or getting lost on the road. screen continues to flicker even after recall was supposedly fixed.
Repeated violations of autopilot safety systems has forced Tesla to activate in cabin cameras to be used as an additional safety device for driver monitoring. Not all vehicles have in cabin cameras and should be installed for increased safety concerns
The contact's wife owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while his wife was driving at slow speeds, the vehicle independently accelerated, without warning. The contact's wife forcefully applied pressure on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle resumed regular driving after the failure and proceeded to drive at slow speeds. As the contact's wife approached the driveway to park the vehicle in the garage, the same failure recurred without warning. The contact slammed on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that a diagnostic would be performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
Front passenger door mechanism doesn’t function properly . Door only opens when pulling on interior door handle. Service department stated it’s a common problem with the door actuators failing and it needs to be replaced.
There was a recall for Tesla Model S and X with MCU1 to have the eMMC card upgrade necessary to keep the unit running or for those that had to upgrade the eMMC or the MCU1 replaced with with an MCU2 before the recall would be reimbursed. I was contacted by Tesla about the reimbursement and I completed the necessary forms. I was later contacted by Tesla and informed I didn’t meet the criteria. I asked for reasons why and they told me to contact my service center. As I have been to the service center 25 times I understand that they will just look at the invoice. So I did this on my own and see that when I had to replace my MCU1 with an MCU2, they listed it as an upgrade. At the time, I didn’t think much of it being listed as an upgrade, but it was the only option communicated to me by Tesla at that time. I had no choice in order to make my Model X safe to drive. Upgrading the eMMC was not an option presented to me. I am requesting that Tesla reconsider my request for reimbursement as I feel I meet the requirements of the recall. Additionally, when I needed to install the MCU2 to make my car safe to drive, the FM/XM radio feature that I paid for when I purchased the car was removed. Six months later the option to add the radio back at my expense was another $500. I am seeking reimbursement from Tesla for the cost of the MCU and radio for a total cost of $3000 plus tax.
The MCU screen (large touch screen in the center of dashboard) has been malfunctioning. This started a few months ago when screen seemed to "crash" -- as I'm driving, the screen will turn black and take a long time to come back. On other occasions the map won't load and I receive a notice for "network error" (and have 5g service and not a satellite problem.) This would happen on and off for the past few months. I reported it back in March and was told they would order parts and get back to me and haven't. Then the 12 volt battery died and they replaced it but the MCU problems didn't go away. The last time I drove it, the screen froze up, then turned black and didn't come back on. The collision warning, lane assistance, and adaptive cruise control and steering all stopped working. I COULD engage the auto pilot and cruise control (the notification showed on the small dash board on top of the steering wheel, that they were both engaged) however, they didn't work. I set the car to 65 on the highway and the cruise control wouldn't go over 50. Also, on the back roads, the car drove straight through stop signs without stopping.
Model X 100D makes noise during driving whenever I turned the steering wheel. Took it at Tesla service center for service and concurred the my concern and replaced front upper Arm. The suspension contributed to brand new tires to wear out quickly in less than a year. Driver and passengers windows fails to close after opening regularly, Map navigation and live traffic data does not work properly. During car in reverse, rear view camera blanks out. Tesla service center could duplicate my concern.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 TESLA MODEL X. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT START-UP, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE DIFFICULT TO STEER. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TESLA (530 N STATE RT 17, PARAMUS, NJ 07652, (201) 225-2544) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE U-JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.
A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE 8GB CHIP FEBRUARY OF THE 2021. AFTER 6 SERVICE VISITS REGARDING THIS ISSUE I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL FIX. I WAS CALLED DURING MY APPOINTMENT TO SAY THEY CAN REPLACE THE CHIP BUT IT WOULDN'T FIX ALL OF MY PROBLEMS. THEY REQUESTED I INSTEAD PAY TO UPGRADE THE SYSTEM AT A PRICE OF 1250.00. I REFUSED AND ASKED THEM TO PERFORM THE RECALL FIX. THEY THEN MESSAGED ME 5 HOURS LATER THAT MY CAR WAS READY FOR PICKUP AND DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL FIX. UNDERSTAND THAT MY APPOINTMENT WAS RESCHEDULED BY TESLA THREE TIMES AS THEY STATED THEY WERE WAITING ON THE PART. THEY HAD OVER A MONTH TO REVIEW THE NOTES ON MY CAR. I WAS TOLD IT QUALIFIED AND TO BRING IT IN. THEN IT WAS BAIT AND SWITCH. GIVE US MONEY. SO NOTHING WAS FIXED. THEY DID NOT PERFORM THE FIX UNDER THE RECALL. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE IS NOT JUST AN ANNOYANCE, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE SCREEN RANDOMLY REBOOTS WHILE DRIVING AND TAKES 14 MINUTES TO TURN BACK ON. TURN SIGNALS COME ON A MINUTE AFTER THE TURN IS COMPLETE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.
