TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING FROM A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO 45 MPH AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE IN CIRCLES. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT CRASHED IN SEVERAL CAR ON THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT. THE FORCE HIT THE OTHER VEHICLES DIRECTLY IN THE REAR. THE CONSUMER HIT A TOTAL OF EIGHT VEHICLES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE POLICE AND WAS DECLARED AS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,323 . UPDATED 11/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THREE OF THE VEHICLE INCLUDING HERS WAS TOTALED. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHE DISCOVERED THE FLOOR MAT WAS JAMMED UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE PEDAL JAMMED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER WOULD EXPERIENCE A JOLT WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE HORN WOULD SUDDENLY START GOING OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. UPDATED 06/22/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. HE ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE THEN ABRUPTLY MADE A NINETY DEGREE TURN AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. AFTER ACCELERATING FOR MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED FEET, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO IDLE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED AN INJURED SHOULDER AS A RESULT OF THE INTENSITY OF THE ACCELERATION AND TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING AS NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A COMPLAINT AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA AND I HAVE THE DASHBOARD CRACKS STARTING 2 YEARS AGO NOW I HAVE MULTIPLE CRACKS ALL OVER THE DASHBOARD AND MY CAR LOOKS HORRIBLE I HOPE TOYOTA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
1. THERE WAS NO EVENT THE CAR WENT INTO A IDLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY FOUND A BAD "THROTTLE BODY". I'M FINDING OUT THIS IS A COMING PROBLEM FOR 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY'S AND WHAT'S AMAZING, THE TOYOTA PARTS MANAGER SAID THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. PLEASE NOTE THIS ITEM COSTS OVER $1000 TO REPLACE!! THIS IS UNCALLED-FOR!! THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ON LINE ARE COMPLAINING. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. 2. THIS PROBLEM ONLY HAPPEN ONCE (FEB. 22ND, 2011) 3. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE CRASHING INTO A BUILDING. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR EARLIER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR STALLING ISSUES WHERE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND REAR BRAKES. SINCE THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 UPDATED 03/24/11*LJ UPDATED 08/22/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY SEVERAL TIMES AND USUALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY HOWEVER ON THE LAST OCCURRENCE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS FRACTURED AND WATER WAS LEAKING IN. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE WAS CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN, WHILE CHANGING LANES TO THE SLOW LANE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK, I LOST CONTROL, AND THE CAR CAREENED OFF THE FREEWAY AND DOWN AND EMBANKMENT. THE CAR WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BUT I WAS NOT INJURED. *TR
WENT TO CAR WASH TO GET THE ROAD SALT OFF CAR. PUSHED IN THE CODE NUMBERS FOR THE AUTOMATED WASH. I HAD TO OPEN WINDOW STILL COULD NOT REACH SO OPENED DOOR ALSO. PUNCHED THE CODE CLOSED DOOR AND WINDOW. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE DOOR BEGAN TO OPEN SO I TOOK CAR OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE TO INCH FORWARD. AS SOON AS I LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD HITTING THE DOOR BEFORE IT COULD FULLY OPEN. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO SAIL RIGHT THROUGH THE WHOLE CAR WASH BUT MANAGED TO GET THE CAR STOPPED BY STANDING ON THE BRAKE BEFORE HITTING THE EXIT DOOR. *TR
2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEALING FOR YEARS. HE STATES THAT THE DEALER HAS WORKED ON THE VEHICLE AND NOTHING HAS HELPED. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE SQUEALING IS EXTREMELY LOUD AND CONSTANT. *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OUT OF THE GARAGE WHILE THE GEAR IN REVERSE WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE RPMS INCREASED RAPIDLY AFTER THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND AN INSPECTION WAS DONE BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY BEGAN LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM THE REAR PART OF THE TRANSMISSION WHERE THE TWO HALVES OF THE HOUSING ARE BOLTED TOGETHER. TWO MECHANICS, INCLUDING ONE WHOSE EXPERTISE IS IN TRANSMISSION REPAIR, INSPECTED THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION'S SEAL APPARENTLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT, AND STAYS INDOORS EXCEPT FOR A 12-MILE ROUND-TRIP COMMUTE BETWEEN MY HOME AND THE LOCAL INDOOR PUBLIC PARKING GARAGE. BOTH ESTIMATES FOR REPAIR WERE AT LEAST $1,500 BECAUSE THE DESIGN OF THE CAMRY DOES NOT ALLOW EASY ACCESS TO THE TRANSMISSION, REQUIRING THE MECHANIC TO DROP THE ENTIRE FRAME TO ACCESS THE TRANSMISSION. THE FLUID LEAK IS SMALL, LIKELY NO MORE THAN A HALF MILLILITER EVERY 10 DAYS, SO THE REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN DONE. BOTH MECHANICS STATED THAT IT IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A VEHICLE LIKE THIS TO BEGIN LEAKING FROM BETWEEN THE HALVES OF THE HOUSING AND, BASED ON THERE BEING NO OTHER PHYSICAL DAMAGE OR WEAR TO THE AREA, IT WAS THEIR OPINIONS THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR IS STILL TINGED WITH PINK AND DIFFUSES WELL ON BLOTTER PAPER, AND THE MECHANICAL FUNCTION OF THE TRANSMISSION APPEARS FINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE THAT WAS UNKNOWN, WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. PREVIOUSLY THE DEALER HAD MADE FOUR ATTEMPTS TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE A FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PARKED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE SENSORS COULD BE REPROGRAMMED BUT THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT WOULD REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIANS STATED IF THE REPROGRAM DID NOT WORK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,217.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PULLING INTO A CARPORT WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE WENT OVER THE STOPPER IN THE PARKING SPOT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,600.
AT AROUND 48,000 MILES, I STARTED TO FEEL AND HEAR A CLICKING IN THE STEERING. IT OCCURS ANY TIME THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED,(PARKED OR DRIVING). I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SLIDE SHAFT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. AS I SEARCHED THROUGH YOUR COMPLAINT LIST, I SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS MODEL AND YEAR. IT SEEMS TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE ARE OTHER MANUFACTURERS THAT HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEMS AND HAVE MADE REPAIRS TO THEIR VEHICLES. ALSO THERE ARE THIRD PARTY REPLACEMENT PARTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM (AT THE OWNERS' EXPENSE). HOW MANY FAILURES, CRASHES OR POSSIBLY DEATHS WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE TOYOTA ISSUE A RECALL TO REPAIR THIS? TOYOTA CLAIMS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, YET THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF LETTERS STATING THAT THEIR SAFETY WAS AT RISK. IT IS UNCOMFORTABLE TO HEAR AND FEEL THAT NOISE EVERY TIME MY WIFE OR I ARE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH WITH PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED THREE TIMES PRIOR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES HE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED CRASHING INTO A BRICK WALL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HOT. THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN THE NEXT DAY AND THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BOLTS ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WERE STRIPPED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED A LEAK. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO VERIFIED THAT BECAUSE OF THE BOLTS, THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 136,950.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE PLATE FAILED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,052.
POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION-I HAVE OWNED THIS TOYOTA CAMRY FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS. THE TRANSMISSION HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. OCCASIONALLY IT SLIPS INTO THE WRONG GEAR. THE WORSE PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED WAS FIVE WEEKS AGO WHEN I PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE WANTED TO GO FORWARD. I NEARLY HIT THE CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. I AM GLAD NOBODY WAS WALKING IN FRONT OF THE CAR WHEN I PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO THE REVERSE GEAR. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND IF I COULD I WOULD RETURN IT BACK TO THE DEALER. SUSPENSION-WHEN IS RAINING THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER ABOVE 50MPH. THE REAR OF THE CAR WANT TO GO RIGHT MAKING THE FRONT OF THE CAR GO LEFT. THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR HITS BUMPS ON THE ROAD. AGAIN, THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SOLARA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE LID FOR THE CENTER CONSOLE ABRUPTLY OPENED. WHEN IT OPENED, IT BANGED ON THE CONTACT'S ARM WHICH COMPROMISED THE STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE CONTACT CLOSED THE LID AND CONTINUED DRIVING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CENTER CONSOLE NEEDED A NEW LID. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE PASSENGER SIDE SRS AIRBAG ASSEMBLY IS COMING OFF AND SEEMS AS IF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATORS FAILED TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAG. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS TO THE CAR. TRIED TO REPORT AND LODGE FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA AND THEIR DEALERS, BUT THEY REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE AND DECIDED NOT TO LODGE COMPLAINT. *TR.... UPDATED 10-17-13 *BF

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK AND THE ACCELERATION BECAME LIMITED. AFTER SEVERAL MOMENTS, THE ENGINE EXHIBITED AN INCREASE IN RPMS AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED TO 50 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THE ENTIRE TIME. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BY SHUTTING THE IGNITION OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,300.
STEERING SHAFT BOLT SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN. STEERING SHAFT WAS DISASSEMBLED, AND NEW SHAFT BOLT REPLACED FOR OLD RUSTED OUT SHAFT BOLT. TWO HOURS LABOR. *TR
