MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF THE ASSISTED BRAKING SYSTEM ON OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THIS OCCURRED WHILE SHE WAS DROPPING OFF OUR CHILDREN AT SCHOOL BUT FORTUNATELY OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE BECAME APPARENT WHEN MULTIPLE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP AND WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE ADEQUATELY. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED A RE-STARTED, THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. WE UNDERSTAND FROM INFORMATION AVAILABLE FROM OTHER DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE THAT THE FAILURE IS LIKELY TO RECUR AND SO REMAINS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THEY APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ABS WOULD SPORADICALLY ENGAGE, AND THE ABS LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
OUR FOUR-CYLINDER CAMRY LE WITH 141,000 ON THE ODOMETER WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH "LOW-END BEARING NOISE," MEANING THE ENGINE HAS SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAPPENED AFTER A VERY "HARD START" THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE HAD NO OIL IN IT. A VERY DISTURBING SOUND. WE HAVE RUN THIS CAR ON SYNTHETIC OIL (AND TOP-RATED OIL FILTERS) SINCE THE FIRST OIL CHANGE, AND ALMOST ALL THE 141,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER ARE HIGHWAY MILES IN THE MID-ATLANTIC. I MAINTAINED THE FLUID LEVELS WITHOUT FAIL, EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN CONSUMING INORDINATE AMOUNTS OF OIL--A FREQUENT COMPLAIN ABOUT 2007 CAMRYS. WE HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR GENTLY, NEVER EXCEEDING 75 MPH. NO RACING, ETC. ONE WOULD EXPECT TO GET AT LEAST 200,000 MILES FROM A CAMRY ENGINE RUN ON SYNTHETIC OIL. THE DEALER AND TWO ADDITIONAL SERVICE CENTERS HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR WHAT WENT WRONG. BAD THINGS HAPPEN, THEY SAY. A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE COSTS ABOUT $6500 FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, SO WE CLEARLY ARE LESS THAN PLEASED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE RPM, THE ODOMETER AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGES DECREASED AS THE PARKING BRAKE AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES WERE PADDED AND THE ROTORS WERE WORN. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
WARNING BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON ( THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ONE) WHILE I WAS OUT DRIVING. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED. TRIED TO GET THE CAR HOME AND AT A LIGHT WHEN I WENT TO TAKE OFF, THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE THEN SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE INTERSECTION, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WARNING CAME ON AND I DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY HOME. THE BRAKES WERE VERY SPONGY, LIKE THERE WAS HARDLY ANY BRAKING POWER. *TT
AS I WAS APPROACHING A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, THE ABS LIGHT AND CHECK VSC LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP, I REALIZED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT RESPONSIVE. THE CAR DID NOT GO INTO LIMP HOME MODE. THE ABS HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. UPDATED 05/12/14
THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH AS I WAS SITTING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO PUSH MY BRAKES TO STOP FOR A STOP LIGHT. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND NORMALLY AND IT TOOK ABOUT 4 TIMES AS LONG TO GET THE CAR TO STOP COMPARED TO NORMAL RESPONSIVENESS. SIMULTANEOUSLY, MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD LIT UP WITH WARNING LIGHTS. I PROCEEDED TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE, GOING MAYBE 10MPH, I WENT TO PARK AND ROLLED INTO THE CURB IN FRONT OF MY CAR BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK. ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS CLEARED AND BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A TOYOTA CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO TOLD ME THAT NOTHING HAD REGISTERED IN THE COMPUTER. THE CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN A BIT TO TRY TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALER. EVENTUALLY THE C1345 AND C1468 CODES APPEARED. TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED AND RECOMMENDED THE ACCUMULATOR ASSEMBLY BE REPLACED, BRAKE SYSTEM BLEED, RESET MEMORY AND CALIBRATED LINEAR VALVE. EXPENSIVE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND THE CAR IS NOW DRIVING AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING AND CAUSED A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,500.
ON APRIL 12, 2014, AS THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AT AROUND 30-35 MILES PER HOUR, I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND BEGAN PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP. AS I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, THEY SEEMED NOT TO WORK. I HAD TO KEEP PUSHING DOWN ON THE BRAKES WITH FORCE TO FINALLY GET TRY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP, AT WHICH POINT THE BRAKE LIGHTS SENSOR, THE ABS SENSOR,AND THE VSC SENSORS ALL LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. AS I WAS TRYING TO GET THE CAR TO STOP, THE CAR BEGAN SWERVING AND I COULDN'T GET IMMEDIATE CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE CAR FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS SLIDING, THE STABILITY OF THE CAR WAS COMPROMISED. I HONESTLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. ON APRIL 17TH, 2014,IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, ONLY TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND THEY APPEARED TO NOT WORK. ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO REALLY PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKES FOR THEM TO FINALLY WORK. AGAIN, ALL OF THE LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD (BRAKES, ABS, VSC). IT WAS ALSO DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR AND AGAIN, I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS GOING TO CRASH. *TR
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, I SAW BRAKE LIGHTS AHEAD, SO I APPLIED BRAKES. MY VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AT THE NORMAL RATE AND I NOTICED INCREASED RESISTANCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I APPLIED AS MUCH PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED TO AVOID A COLLISION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA AND SAID PROBLEM IS DUE TO ABS ACCUMULATOR. THE VEHICLE NEVER PRESENTED A COMPUTER CODE FROM PROBLEM. PROBLEM WAS FOUND BY LOGGING THE ABS ACCUMULATOR SENSOR AND IT WAS REPORTING CONSISTENTLY LOSING BRAKE PRESSURE. THE PRICE FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART IS $2626 FOR JUST THE PART. TWO MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON WITH WARNING TO "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO LOW REAR BRAKES, REPLACED PADS, ROTORS AND RESET THE VSC SYSTEM. THE NEW PART IS ALSO AN UPDATED VERSION ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, WHICH SIGNIFIES THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL PART. *JS
I HAVE A 2007 CAMRY LE AND IN 2013 I NOTICED THE ABS AND BREAK LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, TACHOMETER BOUNCES UP AND DOWN AND SPEEDOMETER SHOWS 0. THIS KEPT HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, IF IT DOESN'T SHOW THE CORRECT READING ON THE SPEEDO METER AND THE BREAKS MAY NOT FUNCTION AS EXPECTED WHICH MIGHT LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. I GOT IT CHECKED(DIAGNOSTICS TEST) AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR UNIT IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE AROUND $2000. I CALLED TOYOTA TO COMPLAIN SINCE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC COMPONENT AND NOTHING REALLY RELATED TO WARE AND TEAR, THEY INDICATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT CAMRY HYBRIDS 2007 HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA IS PROVIDING "WARRANTY EXTENSION" FOR OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE SAME WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR ABS ACTUATOR SHOULD APPLY TO 2007 CAMRY NON HYBRID MODELS ALSO. SEEKING NHTSA HELP IN THIS REGARD. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BEEN BLOWING BLUE SMOKE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BACK IN 2014, WHICH I PURCHASED THROUGH A DEALERSHIP. AFTER ANYTIME I START MY CAR AFTER SITTING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IT WILL BLOW BLUE SMOKE EACH TIME. I GET MY OIL CHANGED WAY MORE OFTEN THEN I SHOULD TO TRY AND PREVENT THE SMOKE, I CHECK MY OIL ONCE A WEEK, AND NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT CONTINUES TO BLOW BLUE SMOKE.
FIRST INCIDENT OF BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED ON THE DRIVE WAY OF MY HOME. STARTING THE CAR FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE, HAD THE "CHECK VSC" SIGN AND OTHER WARNING LIGHTS LIT ON THE DASH. I TRIED PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SHUTTING AND RESTARTING THE CAR. AFTER A FEW TRIES, THE WARNINGS WERE GONE AND BREAK PADDLE FELT NORMAL. SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON A FREEWAY TRAVELING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DASH BOARD LIT UP WITH WARNING LIGHTS AD I LOST THE BRAKING POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE PULLOVER WITHOUT AN INCIDENT. IF THE INVESTIGATION ON THIS SUBJECT HAS STATED AS OF JAN 2014, WHEN SHOULD WE EXPECT TO HEAR FROM THE AGENCY ON THE OUTCOME? *TR
UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE CHECK VSC ALERT APPEARED ON THE DASH INDICATOR SCREEN. USER MANUAL INSTRUCTED ME TO DRIVE TO NEAREST SERVICE CENTER. THIS IS NOT A SAFE PROCEDURE, AS THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NEAR COMPLETE MALFUNCTION. UPON RESEARCH ONLINE, IT CAME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WILL NEAR $2500. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A SYSTEM UPDATE FOR THIS PROBLEM, INDICATING THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE MALFUNCTION. HOPEFULLY THIS COMPLAINT WILL ASSIST IN THE ISSUING OF A RECALL FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR OR RELATED VSC SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN SUCH A PERSISTENT ISSUE. THANK YOU. *TR
MY DASHBOARD WAS GETTING STICKY, GUMMY AND DISINTEGRATING. WHEN THE SUN SHINES ON IT ,THERE IS A GLARE WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE. IT IS NOT SAFETY TO DRIVE. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR DURING RUSH HOUR. BRAKE LIGHTS APPEARED AHEAD, SO I APPLIED BRAKES. MY VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN AND I NOTICED INCREASED RESISTANCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED. LUCKILY, THERE WAS A GOOD DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME, AND I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO STOP AND AVOID COLLISION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE SHOP TO BE CHECKED OUT. THE SHOP CALLED TOYOTA, AND THEY KNEW RIGHT AWAY EXACTLY WHAT PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PRICE TAG OF $2600 FOR JUST THE PART. A WEEK PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, DASH LIGHTS CAME ON WITH WARNING TO "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TO CHECK THE WARNING LIGHT. NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED, THE WARNING LIGHT WAS RESET. THIS LIGHT HAD COME ON AGAIN JUST PRIOR TO THE BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
NOTICED MY CAR HAD A KNOCKING SOUND TOOK IT IN TO MY MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I'M VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT MY CAR. THE MECHANIC CALLED TO INFORM ME THE OIL LEVELS WERE EXTREMELY LOW, WHILE HE NOTICED IT WAS CLOSE TO NEEDING AN OIL CHANGE BUT THE LEVELS SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THAT LOW. HIS OBSERVATION WAS MY CAR IS BURNING OIL TOO FAST. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO QUESTION IF THERE WAS AN RECALL OF SUCH AND THE ASSOCIATE AT THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED A SILENT RECALL OF THIS MATTER. HE THEN INFORMED ME TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, IN WHICH WE DID AND WAS INFORMED DUE TO THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED I COULD PAY $5000+ TO REBUILD MY MOTOR OR GET MY OIL CHANGED EVER 3000 MILES INSTEAD OF 5000 MILES. THIS I THOUGHT WAS A PROBLEM CAUSE WHEN I PURCHASED MY NEW 2007 CAMRYI WAS INFORMED TO CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 5000 MILES. IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT CAUSE I'M FAITHFUL ABOUT SERVICING MY CAR AND ONLY TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGES AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATED TO ME A WHILE AGO. I'M HOPING IT DOESN'T CAUSE ANY MOTOR PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE. *TR
APRIL 5, 2014' BRAKE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTION. THE VISUAL OF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARYING SPEEDS. ON EACH OCCASION THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES MANY OF THE WARNING/EMERGENCY LIGHTS (ENGINE CHECK, ABS, VCS, BRAKE, ETC.) ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. THE BRAKES THEN BECAME VERY SPONGY TO THE POINT I HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD TO GET THE CAMRY TO STOP. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS IF I HAD HAD TO STOP TO AVOID A CRASH. AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, I TOOK THE CAMRY TO TEJAS TOYOTA TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTER INDICATED NOTHING WAS WRONG. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER TO BRING IT IN WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING, IF POSSIBLE, SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. ON APRIL 5TH, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND WE DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO TEJAS. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL OCCURRING WHEN THEY CONNECTED THEIR COMPUTER TO CHECK THE VEHICLES ONBOARD COMPUTER. THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSED THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND DUE TO THE FAULTY ACTUATOR, THE BRAKE PADS ON THE BOTH FRONT AND REAR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM FLUSHED. THE COST OF THE ACTUATOR WITH LABOR TO INSTALL WAS OVER $3,500, TOTAL BILL ALMOST $4,200. TEJAS PERSONNEL DID A GREAT JOB REPAIRING THE PROBLEM AND GETTING THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME. I CALLED THE TOYOTA MAIN CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND SPOKE WITH ONE OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES, [XXX]. HE CREATED CASE # 1404141818 AND I WAS INSTRUCTED TO FAX (NOT EMAIL BUT FAX) A COPY OF THE INVOICE I RECEIVED FROM TEJAS TO HIM. WHICH I DID. HE SPOKE TO THE HIGHER UPS IN TOYOTA AND CALLED ME BACK TODAY (4/16). TOYOTA MANAGEMENT DENIED IT WAS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY THE REPAIR COSTS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PAST THE INITIAL WARRANTY PERIOD. I BELIEVE TOYOTA IS RESPONSIBLE DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN OF THEIR ACTUATOR. CAR HAS BEEN USING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 500 MILES SINCE 2014
MY CAR WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2009. I'VE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE AND OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS THE ENGINE COILS GOING OUT. TODAY, MY CAR STOPPED AS I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET. NO, THERE WASN'T A CRASH BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN. THE CAR IS A 2007. LUCKILY I STOPPED IN FRONT OF THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I FOUND OUT THAT MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IT WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING PRIOR TO TODAY. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $4200 TO REPAIR. I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. I'M STILL SHOCKED THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIED. I PURCHASED A TOYOTA BECAUSE MY PREVIOUS CAR, A CHEVY, WAS GIVING ME SO MANY PROBLEMS. WHEN ASKED WHY WOULD IT JUST DIE WITHOUT WARNING...I WAS TOLD IT JUST DID. THERE'S NO WAY OF KNOWING. THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM ON. VSC, ABS & BRAKE LIGHTS LIT UP. WENT TO THE DEALER TO COMPUTER DIAGNOSE, THEY SAID THERE IS A FEW CODE. I STARTED MY CAR AND THE "CHECK VCS SYSTEM" LIGHT AS WELL AS OTHER INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THEY WENT AWAY. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET AS NORMAL. MELTING/DECOMPOSING DASHBOARD CAR WAS PURCHASE FROM MY SON-IN-LAW/ELDEST DAUGHTER (BOUGHT FROM HIS MOTHER NEW) FOR BY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER. AFTER A MONTH OR TWO AFTER THE PURCHASE, I NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR WAS PITTING AND WAS ALL MARKED UP AND LITERALLY DECOMPOSING. I WRONGLY BLAMED MY DAUGHTER AND HER FRIENDS FOR THIS APPARENT ABUSE UNTIL HEARING ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLINE. AFTER MY PROPHETIC APOLOGY TO MY DAUGHTER, I ASKED HER TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER TO "GET THE BALL ROLLING". I WANTED HER TO LEARN HOW TO DO THIS ON HER OWN. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THIS WHOLE ORDEAL WAS STARTED, THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WERE NO DASHES IN THE US WHATSOEVER. I THEN DECIDED TO CALL TOYOTA US DIRECTLY TO EXPLAIN OUR SITUATION. I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THE ACTUAL ORDER DATE WAS MARCH 8TH 2016 (WHAT??) AND THAT THE COMPANY CONTRACTED TO PRODUCE THESE DASHES CURRENTLY HAS A 6-18 MONTH BACKLOG. I THEN ASKED IF THERE HAPPENED TO BE AN AIRBAG ISSUE AND THE DASH WAS DAMAGED WOULD I HAVE TO WAIT TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. THEY SAID NOT LIKELY...SO WHAT THIS TELLS ME IS THAT THE DASHBOARDS ARE OUT THERE "SOMEWHERE" BUT NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR RECALL AND OUT-OF-WARRANTY CAMPAIGN (DIFFERENT BUCKET). I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT THIS CAMPAIGN CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO THE NEW OWNER (PROVIDE THEM WITH THE CASE #). A LOW NOISE LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN IN A LOWER GEAR THAN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DAVID MAUS TOYOTA. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB WERE BAD. I QUESTIONED A WHEEL BEARING GOING OUT AT 14000 MILES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID WE SHOULD DRIVE THE CAR MORE. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DISTRIBUTOR WHO CONTACTED THE TOYOTA SERVICE REP. THE SERVICE REP SAID DUE TO AGE TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPAIR IT. HE FURTHER STATED THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE DRIVEN MORE. I TOOK THE CAR TO PHILLIPS TOYOTA IN LEESBURG, FLORIDA. THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND ONE FRONT HUB BAD. THEY REPLACED BOTH BEARINGS AND A HUB. SINCE THIS DID NOT SOUND LIKE A WHEEL BEARING HAD IT NOT BEEN FOUND, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FRONT WHEELS TO LOCK UP WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO MENTION IN ANY OF TOYOTA'S MATERIAL TELLING THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY SHOULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE A SPECIFIED NUMBER OF MILES DURING A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD. *JS

APPARENTLY MY BRAKES LOST SIGNIFICANT BRAKE PRESSURE AND I THOUGHT I MIGHT CRASH. FURTHER WHEN I START MY CAR THE BRAKES DO NOT FULLY KICK IN UNTIL 5-10 SECONDS LATER SO I TEND TO ROLL FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THREE DEALERSHIPS AND THEY ALL SAID MY ABS ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART COSTS $2,600 JUST TO BUY FROM TOYOTA AND THEN COAST AN ADDITIONAL $800 IN LABOR TO INSTALL. THAT IS INSANE. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND HER ARE TONSSS OF CAMRYS WITH THIS PROBLEM. AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR LOST BRAKING POWER FOR A MOMENT. AS THIS HAPPENED I HEARD A POP FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR AND A SOUND LIKE AN ACTUATOR PUMPING. AFTER A SPLIT SECOND OF NO BRAKES, THE CAR DID STOP ABRUPTLY (ALTHOUGH SCARY THAT I LOST BRAKE PRESSURE). I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PUMPING EVEN AFTER THE CAR WAS OFF. I ALSO HEARD A LEAKING NOISE LIKE THE BRAKE LINE HAD A PRESSURE LEAK. I STARTED THE CAR, LEAVING IT IN PARK, AND PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AND ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN IT WOULD POP AND GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THIS THE ACTUATOR WOULD START PUMPING AGAIN. I'M SOMEWHAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND MY OPINION IS THAT THE ACTUATOR'S SEALS OR LINES ARE LEAKING CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO DEPRESSURIZE. AS LONG AS THE ACTUATOR CAN KEEP UP WITH THE BRAKE PRESSURE, ALL IS FINE, BUT IF THE ACTUATOR CAN'T KEEP UP THE CAR LOSES BRAKE PRESSURE (LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME). THIS HAS BEEN A CULMINATION OF ABOUT 3 MONTHS OF VERY STRANGE CRUNCHING, WHINING AND WHIRRING NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE PROBLEM AND FINALLY AFTER MY BRAKES FAILED, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THE NHTSA IS RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE BE AN ADVOCATE FOR US TO TOYOTA. I HAVE BEEN USING THIS CAMRY SINCE MID 2006. SO FAR IT HAS NOT HAD MANY MAJOR ISSUES. HOWEVER OUT OF THE BLUE ON MARCH 23RD 2014, WHEN I WAS PLANNING TO DRIVE TO A TEMPLE ALMOST 50 MILES FROM MY HOUSE WITH MY WIFE, 2 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER, MOTHER AND MOTHER-IN-LAW IN THE CAR, JUST AS WE PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY, THE CHECK VSC MESSAGE CAME ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHT, THE CAR SLIPPING LIGHT AND THE BAS LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH AND AS I TRIED TO BRAKE, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. LUCKILY SINCE I WAS ONLY ROLLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY (IN REVERSE), THE CAR ONLY ROLLED A LITTLE BIT AND THERE WAS NO CROSS TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD. I TRIED SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND WAITING FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING IT ON.THE MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN AND THE BRAKES WERE UNRESPONSIVE. I IMMEDIATELY MOVED MY FAMILY TO ANOTHER CAR TO CONTINUE OUR TRIP. I THEN CAUTIOUSLY MOVED THE CAR BACK ON TO THE DRIVEWAY WITH MY LEFT LEG ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKES SO THAT I DON'T RUN INTO MY HOUSE. AFTER SEARCHING THE WEB AND SEEING MANY SUCH REPORTS, THE NEXT DAY (TODAY 3/24) I TRIED TO MOVE THE CAR AGAIN AND SEE IF THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED. HOWEVER IT WAS THERE AND WHEN I REVERSED A LITTLE BIT, SUDDENLY THE MESSAGE AND THE LIGHTS DISAPPEARED AND THE BRAKES WERE WORKING AS NORMAL. I AM STILL NOT DRIVING THE CAR, THANKFULLY I HAVE 3 CARS SO I AM USING THE OTHER CARS. A NEW ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY COSTS OVER 3000 DOLARES AND THEY ARE MANUFACTURED BY BOSCH. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS HIDING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE A RECALL COST ON THIS PARTICULAR MATTER WILL BE A LOT HIGHER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FAILED TO REMAIN UPRIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE SERVICE ROAD OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. I FELT THE CAR JERK FORWARD SLIGHTLY FOLLOWED BY NUMEROUS WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS INCLUDING BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK VSC SYSTEM AND ABS. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO BRAKE BECAUSE THERE WAS A CAR APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. IT FELT AS IF THE BRAKES HAD GONE OUT. THE LIGHTS THEN DISAPPEARED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND BRAKES WORKED PROPERLY. I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR SIX DAYS EARLIER. INTERESTINGLY, WHEN I TEST DROVE THE CAR, THE SAME EVENT HAPPENED, BUT I WAS TAPPING MY BRAKES DURING A SLOW RIGHT TURN YIELDING TO TRAFFIC, AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE LOSS OF BRAKES. 2 EVENTS IN 6 DAYS. MY CAR IS NOW AT THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT WITH THIS INTERMITTENT BRAKE ISSUE. I HAVE TO BELIEVE BASED ON READING OTHER COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND ISN'T PROPERLY CONCERNED ABOUT EXPEDITING THE RECALL. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES WERE LOSING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE DUE TO A SLOW LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,060.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID AND WENT TO BRAKE AND MY DASH EMERGENCY LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK VSC LIGHT, ABS, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT ON AND MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT. TOOK IT TO TWO MECHANICS THEN FINALLY TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FINS ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. TWO WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING JUST OVER 40 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT WORK. SHE WAS ABLE TO SWERVE INTO A PARKING LOT AND CRUISE TO A STOP. THE BRAKES WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND COME AND GO. MOVING THE CAR TO A PARKING SPOT A FEW MINUTES LATER THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK WHEN I STARTED TO MOVE THE CAR, BUT WHILE MOVING IT THE WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE BRAKES STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES WILL GO OUT. THE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT IMMEDIATELY. *TR
THIS ALL STARTED DECEMBER 16, 2013, WHEN I LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AND MY CAR BROKE DOWN ON THE ROAD. I HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, AND AIR MASS FLOW SENSOR REPLACED. PICKED THE CAR UP DROVE IT HOME AND SHE STILL FELT A LITTLE SLUGGISH BUT I FIGURED THE CAR WAS COLD. WENT TO HAVE IT INSPECTED THE NEXT DAY AND MY BRAKES WERE LOCKED! HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP AND HE REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AGAIN. PICKEDT IT UP DROVE IT HOME AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AT 60 MPH AGAIN I FIGURED IT WAS COLD AND MADE IT HOME. NEXT DAY DROVE IT TO WORK, THE CAR WENT TO 50, 40, AND THEN 30 MPH AND WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN THAT! I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP AND MY MECHANIC DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2006 AND 2007 MODELS. IT STARTS WITH THE BRAKED CYLINDER AND AS LONG AS THE BRAKES DON?T GET HOT IT RUNS FINE. ONCE THEY GET HOT THE BRAKES APPLIES ITSELF WHICH FORCES YOUR CAR TO SLOW DOWN! THIS IS SO DANGEROUS! YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO REPLACE YOU ENTIRE BRAKE LINE AND OR CHECK ALL THE HOSES, BRAKE BOOSTER EXT. UNTIL YOU CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. IS TOYOTA DOING A RECALL ON THIS? *TR
