Twice: once in August and most importantly 09/07/2024 was slowing down to stop at a dry cleaners when the car reved up and accelerated forward. I continued to apply brakes all the way to the floor and couldn’t get it to stop, so ran into the businesses’s van. USAA paidfor repairs to both, but due to fears for my safety and life and those of others, I have not driven it since. I have had it towed for repairs and to be checked by an engineer sent by Toyota.and have had to rent or borrow or pay for rides up until now. The USAA sebt engineer came to check the car but decide the car was fine and Toyota would not offer help with replacement
The instrument panel goes black while driving in daylight. Seems to be a non issue at night. You can not tell what speed you are traveling, if the car is running hot or how much gas is in the tank. Appears to be a major problem by searching for solutions. Many solutions have already been tried but seems to not fix the issue. Could be dangerous not knowing how fast / slow you are traveling. If you search this issue on [XXX] , you will see many owners have this same issue. I just purchased this car so do not know how long it has been an issue. Previous owner did not disclose this issue to me. I reached out to him but he has not contacted me back. I did buy it as is so there's that. I was driving along and without warning the speedometer became erratic and then went to zero. As I was moving on a main road (limited access) I could not safely stop right away. Several other items on the instrument panel began to operate erratically. (These other items would not be considered safety items) Before reaching an exit or other safe place the speedometer began to operate again. I got off on a general main street and all seemed OK In a few minutes the problem returned and the speedometer went to zero again after becoming erratic first. I CAN NOT TRUST THE SPEED READING On a regular road or any road I may be driving to fast for some limiting condition or posting and not realize it. i AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHERS. This has happened several times and then goes away but I can not trust the reading
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the mechanic was not able to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
My car has a mileage of about 178K and just recently got a "Check VSC System" which apparently affects brakes and also manages stability in case of hazardous road conditions. Across the internet, people also have reported the same issue and in some cases, people have had brakes locking up once this warning came up. Per a recall from Toyota, this is being fixed by the manufacturer only within a certain date and mileage and I dont fall into either of these criteria. The part itself is very expensive to afford right now...would be appreciative if the manufacturer can provide a way to fix this for a nominal cost or for free. THE CAMRY STARTED REVVING UP TO 1500 RPM AT STOP LIGHTS OR WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING SPOTS ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS, LOCAL DEALER COULD NOT FIND ISSUE AFTER HAVING CAR FOR A MONTH. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR SAVED CODES, I JUST NOTICE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE DROP WHILE ITS DOING IT SO ITS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. IT HAPPENS EVERY OTHER DAY USUALLY WHEN WARM OUT. I AM TOO SCARED TO HAVE MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANYMORE AND CANNOT JUSTIFY SELLING. HOPEFULLY TOYOTA WILL HELP FIGURE THIS OUT. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. ALSO HAS HARD STARTING ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK, WILL ALWAYS START ON THE THIRD TRY IF NOT IMMEDIATELY.
I GOT IN MY CAR TO GO TO WORK YESTERDAY MORNING AND MY CAR SPEAD UP TO FAST I WASNT ON MY GAS CUZ I LIVE IN A TOWN N HAVE A SHORT DRIVEWAY. SO I GO TO PUT ON MY BREAKS N I COULDN'T STOP ITS LIKE THERE WAS NO BRAKES. SO I LET OFF N SLAMED ON THEM AGAIN BEFOR I HIT THE ROAD N I STOPED BARRLY OUT IN THE ROAD. MY BREAK LIGHT THEN WAS ON. N IT STILL FELT LIKE I HAD NO BRAKES AT THE STOP SIGN. SO I PULLED OVER SHUT MY CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTE N STARTED TO HEAD TO WORK. NOW MY BRAKES WAS TOUCHY BUT MY BREAK LIGHT WAS OFF. SO I MADE IT TO WORK AND WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR AFTER 7 HOURS IT WAS FINE LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE HAS BEEN OTHER TIMES WHERE I HAVE LEFT WORK N MY CAR SWITCHES FROM BATTER TO GAS N IT SPEEDS UP BUT THIS TIME WAS DIFFERANT N MUCH FASTER IN SUCK A SHORT DISTANCE
CHECK VSC SYSTEM
MY CAR WILL NOT LET ME ACCELERATE PAST 40MPH. ONCE I DO PASS 40MPH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN RIGHT AFTER. THIS IS ALL WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I WENT 65 AND IT CUT STRAIGHT OUT.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TAKES ABOUT 1-2 QUARTS EVERY 1000 MILES, OTHERWISE I RUN OUT OF OIL AND IT STARTS TO SMELL LIKE OIL WHEN I DRIVE OR WHEN CAR IS RUNNING. I WAS HEADED ON A TRIP TODAY WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO DRIVE A LITTLE FUNNY AND IT STARTED TO SMELL LIKE OIL AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECK IT AND I WAS LOW ON OIL. I PUT MORE OIL IN THE CAR AND HEADED BACK ON MY TRIP. I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CRUISE KICKED OFF AND JOLTED THE CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70MPH. AFTER THAT IT WAS HARD TO GET MY CAR TO SHIFT ABOVE THE 3RD RPM. CAR STILL HAS LESS THAN 150,000 ON IT. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A FEW THOUSAND MILES. IT HAS NO OIL LEAKS. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT GO OFF, HAS HAD REGULAR AND SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WITH RECORDS.
I HAD JUST SLOWLY TURNED RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A PUBLIC PARKING GARAGE AND WAS COASTING TO THE END OF THE SPOT WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I HIT THE BRAKE, BUT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE IT CRASHED INTO A LARGE CONCRETE PILLAR AT THE END OF THE PARKING SPOT. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER, GRILL AND HOOD OF THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED, BUT THERE WEREN'T ANY OBJECTS AROUND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE FLOOR MATS WERE IN PLACE. TOYOTA SENT AN INSPECTOR. THE EDR REPORT IS ATTACHED. TOYOTA SAID THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR. THEY WOULD NOT HOWEVER ANSWER MY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE EDR DATA, AND SPECIFICALLY HOW, IF THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN, I COULD HAVE BEEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND WHILE THE ACCELERATOR REMAINED DEPRESSED, SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THE EDR DATA SHOWED. NOTE THAT MY CAR WAS UP-TO-DATE WITH ALL RECALLS WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED.

THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION; HOWEVER, THE DRIVER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, BUT THERE WAS NO FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle independently lunged forward while his foot was on the brake pedal and shifting gears without warning. The contact also stated that the failure would occur upon attempting to park the vehicle also while his foot was on the brake pedal and shifting gears. The contact stated that the failure was random and that the RPM's would rev up during the failure. The contact stated that upon his own investigation and inspection of the vehicle, he linked the failure to a worn throttle position sensor. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
ON MY 2007 CAMRY HYBRID, AS I WAS REVERSING, THE BRAKES ALL OF A SUDDEN ENGAGED, BRAKING SO HARD IT FELT LIKE I HIT SOMETHING. SOON AFTER, THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS LIGHTS TURNED ON, AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM DISPLAYED. VSC WARNING LIGHTS AND DISPLAY MESSAGE INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF AND TURN BACK ON ARBITRARILY.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT A SPEED OF 35 MILES PER HOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" LIGHT TURNED ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE BRAKE OF THE CAR BECAME LOOSE. WHEN I TRY TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN BY APPLYING THE BRAKE, IT WOULDN'T LET ME DO SO. I WAS APPROACHING THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE TOO HARD SO THAT THE CAR CAN STOP. FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BY APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
TOO MUCH OIL CONSUMPTION ALSO THE CAR JERKS WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND THE RPM NEEDLE MOVED TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE CONTACT SHIFTED TO THE PARK POSITION, REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO TOYOTA TREASURE COAST (5101 SE FEDERAL HIGHWAY STUART, FLORIDA 34997) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLOORMAT GOT CAUGHT BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE CARPET OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT A SPRING WAS FOUND NEAR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REMOVE THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE FLOORMAT WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR ACCELARTED WITHOUT STEPPING ON GAS PEDAL ON ITS OWN IN A PARKING LOT, TOOK REPETITIVE AND FORCEFUL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE TO CONTROL CAR FROM CONTINUING INTO A WALL. MECHANIC (NOT DEALER) TESTED AND PROBLEM DIDN'T APPEAR. WHEN DRIVING CAR INTO HOME HOME PARKING SPOT, BACKING UP TO POSITION PLACE, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON IT OWN AGAIN AND STOPPED ONLY WITH FORCEFUL BRAKE PRESSURE.
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK MY CAR STARTED DOING 50 MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT ON ANY PEDAL. I HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKE TO KEEP IT WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT OF 20 IN THE SCHOOL ZONE AND THEN 35 ON THE ROAD. WHEN I ARRIVED AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR TRIED TO MOVE FORWARD EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND STILL HAD THE SAME REVVING AND PULLING. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND PUT IT IN PARK AND THE CAR KEPT REVVING. I TURNED IT OFF AND KEPT IT OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON I STILL HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I CAREFULLY DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME (ABOUT A MILE TOTAL TRIP) RIDING THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME TO KEEP THE CAR FROM GETTING AWAY FROM ME. NO MAT WAS NEAR THE PEDALS, I TRIED MOVING TO A LOWER GEAR, I MADE SURE ALL CRUISE CONTROLS WERE OFF, NOTHING HELPED. IT WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WHILE DRIVING!
MY TOYOTA CAMRY CE HAS A PROBLEM WITH DASH BOARD. ALL GAUGES GOES UP AND DOWN. I HAVE VIDEO. I TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND BASE ON THE SCANNER EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT FINE. NO CODE INDICATOR. THERE ARE MANY FORUMS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM PEOPLE ARE ENCOUNTERING. THIS PROBLEM MUST BE A RECALL. IT DOES IT WHILE I'M DRIVING.
