TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DROVE TO A LOCAL POLICE STATION TO FILE A REPORT, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WAS IN THE "WRONG COMMUNITY". THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE VIBRATION. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
TOOK IT TO BE INSPECTED AND HAVE THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED DUE TO AGE AND RUST. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR, THE MECHANIC OPENED THE DOOR FOR ME. WHEN HE OPENED THE DOOR, THE HANDLE BROKE OFF. ALSO, THE INSIDE HANDLE BROKE OFF LAST YEAR, SO THE PLASTIC ISN'T THAT GOOD. THEY SHOULD USE METAL HANDLES INSTEAD. *TR
TIRE SEPARATED FROM RIM CAUSING SUDDEN AIR LOSS. OCCURRED ON PARKWAY EXIT LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHICH SAID HELLO TO A GUARD RAIL. VEHICLE DAMAGE. ASSUMED IT WAS MY FAULT UNTIL IT OCCURRED THREE OTHER TIMES, FOUR TOTAL, ON THREE DIFFERENT VEHICLES WITH THREE DIFFERENT GENERAL TIRE MODELS ON THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WHEELS. *TR
I ORDERED A SUPER SIZED DRINK THAT WAS TOO LARGE TO FIT IN THE CUP HOLDER, SO I SAT THE DRINK IN THE CENTER CONSOLE TO KEEP IT STABILE WHILE I DROVE HOME. A CAR DROVE THRU THE STOP SIGN WITHOUT STOPPING AND I HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP AND THE DRINK TIPPED OVER IN THE CONSOLE. I REMOVED THE CONSOLE THINKING I CAN WIPE OFF WHATEVER I CAN WIPE OFF , LET THE AREA AIR DRY FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND IT WOULD BE ALRIGHT. HOWEVER, THE LIGHT REMAINED ON WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN FOUR MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 230,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 235,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST TOUCHING THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL TO THE LEFT DIRECTION. IN ADDITION, UNEXPECTEDLY THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN ACCELERATION. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE IN OPERATION WITH CAUTION. THERE WAS DIFFICULTY STEERING AND THE DRIVER APPLIED GREAT FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
SMELL THE ODOR OF GASOLINE AT TIMES AROUND THE CAR. VERY LUCKY NO FIRE. FOUND TWO PIN WHOLES THAT ONLY LEAK WHEN THE FUEL VAPOR PRESSURE INSIDE THE TANK COMES UP. ONE PIN WHOLE SLIGHTLY TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE EXHAUST PIPE BUT SPRAYING TOWARD THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE OTHER PIN HOLE IS ABOVE THE EXHAUST PIPE HEAT SHIELD SPRAYING ONTO THE BODY AND DRAINING DOWN ON TO THE EXHAUST PIPE HEAT SHIELD. PURCHASED CAR NEW, NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, NO ROAD DAMAGE TO TANK, NEVER OPERATED IN A SALT ENVIRONMENT, NO RUST. JUST FOUND TODAY -- HAVE NOT REPAIRED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR AN OIL CHANGE ON FEBRUARY 28, 2007, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT THAT TIME, ATRA INFORMED HER THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. ATRA ALSO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT WAS THE ONLY TYPE THAT COULD BE USED IN HER VEHICLE. SHE PAID $845 TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. IN MARCH OF 2007, THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WAS REPLACED AT THE COST OF $650. ON JULY 25, 2007, THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT FAILED EMISSIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $241. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 226,400, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 215,850.
1995 COROLLA'S LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *TS THE VEHICLE TRAVELED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A MEDIAN BEFORE STRIKING A GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE CAME TO FINAL REST IN THE MEDIAN. FURTHER EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE BALD EVEN PAST THE WEAR INDICATORS. *NM
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I NOTED A POPPING SOUND WHICH SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER. ( SOUNDED LIKE THE POP SOUND WHEN THE LIGHTER IS READY FOR USE) HOWEVER I DID NOT PUSH IN THE LIGHTER TO USE IT, I JUST IGNORED THE SOUND, BUT DID HEAR IT ONE MORE TIME BEFORE ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, PARKING AND LEAVING MY VEHICLE. THANK GOD I HAD FORGOT MY MILITARY ID AND HAD TO RETURN TO MY VEHICLE WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY VEHICLE THERE WERE FLAMES SHOOTING UP FROM INSIDE MY VEHICLE. I QUICKLY RAN BACK TO MY OFFICE AND WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF SEVERAL OTHER CO WORKERS, WE EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE USING FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. AFTER CLOSER EXAMINATION OF THE FIRES LOCATION, I CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE SAME AREA OF THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, BEHIND THE CONSOLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRYING TO DECELERATE, SHE NOTICED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO FLOOR THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HER THAT HER BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE CONTACT RETURNED TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HER THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN AND SHE THEN CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED HER THAT SHE NEEDS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS AND THE MASTER CYLINDER ALONG WITH OTHER COMPONENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. UPDATED 5/9/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS VARIOUS NOISES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND THE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 08/17/11
DUE TO THE FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING(?) DRIVING BECOMES EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AS THE RESULT OF THE LEFT/RIGHT TURN SIGNALS NOT WORKING, WHICH CAUSES CARS DRIVING BEHIND ME TO BE OBLIVIOUS OF MY INTENTIONS TO TURN. ALSO, ALTHOUGH LESS DANGEROUS BUT JUST AS AGGRAVATING, IS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS FAILURE TO WORK; MAKING THE CUMBERSOME AND INCONVENIENT CHORE OF CARRYING AROUND A FLASHLIGHT A NECESSITY.
THE REAR LIGHTS (REGULAR REAR LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS) ON MY 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA FAIL CONSTANTLY AND INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN I REPLACE THE BULB(S), THE PROBLEM IS BACK WITHIN DAYS. ACTUALLY, I DO NOT EVEN KNOW IF THEY HAVE EVER ALL WORKED FOR MORE THAN MINUTES! SOMETIMES THEY START WORKING AGAIN BY THEMSELVES. I HAVE GIVEN UP TRYING TO KEEP ALL FOUR LIGHT BULBS FUNCTIONING. MANY OTHER COROLLAS OF THE SAME YEAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IN FACT, SINCE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR (MY WIFE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW (CECILIA KIPP - HER NAME AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE) AND DROVE IT UNTIL THE PAST YEAR), I HAVE YET TO SEE A COROLLA THAT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED (LOOKS THE SAME) THAT HAS THE REAR LIGHTS WORKING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT NO ONE WANTS TO ADDRESS.*AK
CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT SLOW SPEED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND FOOT GOT STUCK ON THE FLOOR MAT, AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE. AS THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION IT WAS STRUCK ON DRIVER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER'S AIR BAG CAUGHT ON FIRE, AND DRIVER SUSTAINED SECOND DEGREE BURNS TO THE MIDSECTION AND UPPER CHEST AREAS/BRUISES, AND SWELLING TO THE FACE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
AFTER BEING REAR ENDED, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BACK RECLINED BACKWARDS. *JB
I BOUGHT A PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FROM SLOANE TOYOTA, GLENSIDE, PA WITH MY SAVINGS OF $5,000 AND AFTER PUTTING LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $3,700. I THINK THE SALES PERSON KNEW IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND SOLD IT TO ME ANYWAY. I HAVE HAD MISFORTUNE AND DISHONESTY BEFORE FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP, BUT GO BACK BECAUSE I TRUST THE TOYOTA PRODUCT AND THEY ARE THE ONLY DEALER CLOSE ENOUGH TO MY HOME TO BE CONVENIENT. DO I HAVE ANY CASE AT ALL; CAN I GET HELP? *LA
THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN A LOW SPEED FRONT END COLLISION AND CAUGHT MY CLOTHING AND ME ONE FIRE, CAUSING SECOND DEGREE BURNS ACROSS MY CHEST. I NOW KNOW THAT THERE WERE SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF DRIVERS CATCHING ON FIRE FROM AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN 1995 TOYOTA COROLLAS THAT THERE WAS A FIVE MONTH INVESTIGATION OF THE PROBLEM IN 1997 (PE97-017) WHICH DID NOT RESULT IN A RECALL. I AM SHOCKED THAT YOU DID NOT REQUIRE TOYOTA TO RECALL AIRBAGS THAT CATCH DRIVERS ON FIRE. I HOPE THAT YOU RE-OPEN THE INVESTIGATION AND ORDER TOYOTA TO RECALL THESE FAULTY PRODUCTS.*AK
REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS FULLY EXTENDED AND WILL NOT RETRACT. MY SISTER HAS THE SAME MODEL AND HER SEATBELT DOES THE SAME.
VEHICLE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS SINCE CONSUMER OWNED IT. ENGINE AND MOTOR MOUNTS HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE/ LOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT WORK/ DRIVER'S SIDE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE, AND REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT RETRACT. *AK
BOTH REAR SHOULDER BELTS (MAY 2001 & JANUARY 2003) AND THE FRONT PASSENGER BELT (JULY 2003) RETRACTORS HAVE FAILED, LOCKING AT A CERTAIN LENGTH AND NOT RETRACTING OR RELEASING THE BELT.*AK
MY 1995 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS A "PIN-HOLE IN THE GAS TANK" NECESSITATING THE WHOLE TANK BE REPLACED. THE LOCATION OF THE HOLE IS DIRECTLY OVER THE EXHAUST PIPE, MAKING THE CAR UNSAFE DUE TO FIRE DANGER. THE TOYOTA REPAIR DEPT. SEEMS UNCLEAR IF THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECT IN THE TANK, A ROAD HAZARD OR INTERNAL CORROSION. IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, YOU SHOULD WARN OTHER OWNERS OF THIS CAR, SO THERE ARE NO VEHICLE FIRES. THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RELEASE FOR MORE ROOM, WHICH CAUSED DISCOMFORT FOR THE CONSUMER WHILE DRIVING. *JB

MANY OTHER COROLLA'S OF THE SAME YEAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MOST OF THE 95 COROLLAS I SEE ON THE ROAD HAVE AT LEAST ONE NON-FUNCTIONING BULB. WHEN I SEE A 95 COROLLA ON THE ROAD, I WATCH IT AND WAIT FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO COME ON - ALMOST ALWAYS AT LEAST ONE BULB IS NON-FUNCTIONING. I HAVE TWO ENGINEERING DEGREES AND I CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I ASKED THE TOYOTA DEALER TO CHECK FOR RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM DURING MY LAST SERVICE, AND THEY IGNORED MY QUESTION. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, THE HEAT FROM THE BULB CAUSES A HIGH RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE BULB AND THE SOCKET. THAT IS WHY I CAN TAKE THE BULB OUT, AND PUT THE SAME BULB BACK IN AND IT STARTS WORKING AGAIN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. ONCE A CAR PULLED ALONG SIDE OF ME AND TOLD ME THAT ALL FOUR BULBS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING, AND THAT ONLY THE REAR WINDOW LIGHT WAS OPERATING. I AM CONCERNED THAT SOMEDAY EITHER MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE IN A 95 COROLLA MAY GET INTO A REAR-END COLLISION.

WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY HE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WENT DOWN TO EMBANKMENT INTO THE RIVER. THE DUAL AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS

WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY APPLIED BRAKES AND RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. *AK
CAR WAS PARKED AND IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF, BUT ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY CONTINUED CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO CATCH FIRE.
SECOND FUEL TANK THAT WILL BE REPLACED IN 8 MONTHS IS PETRUDING OUTWARD INSTEAD OF INWARD. ALSO,INDENTATIONS ON TANK CAUSES IT TO RUPTURE, CRACKS FORMED . CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DUE TO SMELLING GASOLINE AND NOTICING A LEAK FROM OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. MECHANIC WAS CONTACTING TOYOTA BECAUSE OF NOT HAVING AN EXPLANATION OF WHY THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH HEADLIGHTS ON THEY COULD BLINK, AND SOMETIMES WILL GO OFF. HAD CONTACTED DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT TELL WHAT WAS CAUSING IT. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK

CONSUMERS DAUGHTER WAS TRAVELLING APROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. DRIVER LOST CONTROL, RESULTING IN A FRONTAL CRASH AND ROLLOVER, CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN ACCIDENT. *JG
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PUT MY [XXX] OLD CHILD INTO HER CARSEAT. SHE WAS WEARING A WINTER COAT SO I WENT TO ADJUST THE SHOULDER STRAPS TO FIT HER MORE COMFORTABLY. I PULLED ON THE APPROPRIATE STRAP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CARSEAT WHICH STATES TO "PULL TO LOOSEN STRAPS". AS I DID THIS, I TUGGED ON THE LEFT SHOULDER STRAP TO LOOSEN AND THE ENTIRE STRAP CAME UNDONE FROM THE BACK OF THE METAL CLIP THAT HELD IT IN PLACE. THIS IS LOCATED IN THE BACK OF THE CARSEAT. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS OCCUR IN THE PAST. WE REMOVED THE CARSEAT FROM MY VEHICLE AND WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS CARSEAT AND THE STRAPS WERE SECURED CORRECTLY TO BEGIN WITH. THE METAL CLIP THAT HOLDS THE SHOULDER STRAPS HAS A LARGE GAP THAT THE STRAP SLIDES ONTO. WE FEEL THIS GAP IS LARGER THAN IT SHOULD BE OR THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I PURCHASED THE CARSEAT FROM THE ROCKLAND COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AT THEIR CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK DURING THE SUMMER OF THIS YEAR. I CONTACTED THEM AND THEY PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH [XXX] ([XXX]) WHO IS THE COORDINATOR OF THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT COALITION. SHE NOW HAS THIS CARSEAT IN HER POSSESSION. SHE EXAMINED THE METAL CLIP AND STATED SHE FELT THE "GAP" THAT THE STRAP HOOKS INTO WAS LARGER THAN ANY OTHER SHE HAS SEEN. SHE HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH YOU AND GAVE ME YOUR WEBSITE AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT YOU ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM RELIEVED THAT THE STRAPS RELEASED FROM THE METAL CLIP WHEN I WAS PARKED AND NOT WHEN I WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE VERY UPSET THAT THIS OCCURRED AT ALL AND WONDER IF IT WAS THIS EASY FOR THE STRAP TO COME OFF - THEN WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER HEARD A THUMP SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A SOFT RUBBER MATERIAL HEATING THE UNDERNEATH OF THE VEHICLE, THE AIR CONDITIONER STARTED TO BLOW WARM AIR AND THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, LUCKILY CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET TO AN EXIT RAMP AND DRIFT INTO A GAS STATION, CONSUMER NOTICED THERE WERE NO BELTS ON THE PULLEYS AND INSTEAD OF SEEING THREE, HE ONLY SAW TWO, CONSUMER ALSO NOTICED THE BOLT THAT WAS HOLDING THE PULLEY HAD SNAPPED. BATTERY FAILED AND WAS REPLACED, STARTER FAILED AND WAS REPLACED, VEHICLE IS ON ITS THIRD ALTERNATOR AT ONLY 52000 MILES. REAR BRAKE SHOES REPLACED AND REAR DRUMS WERE MACHINED. SMELL OF GASOLINE. FOUND A STREAM OF GASOLINE SQUIRTING FROM A CRACK IN THE GAS TANK ON TO THE EXHAUST PIPE HEAT BARRIER. UPON EXAMINATION OF TANK FOUND A DEFECT IN THE GAS TANK MANUFACTURING PROCESS. IT LOOKED LIKE DURING THE STAMPING OF THE SHEET METAL, A PORTION OF THE METAL FOLDED OVER CAUSING A WEAKEN AREA OF ABOUT 1 INCH WHERE THE METAL IS BENT OVER ON ITSELF. I REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE GAS TANK WITH A NEW ONE PURCHASED FROM TOYOTA AND IT LASTED ABOUT 18 MONTHS BEFORE IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A PROBLEM SEEING THIS DEFECT IN THE NEW TANK BECAUSE OF THE UNDERCOATING APPLIED.I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A HAZARDOUS DEFECT BECAUSE THE LEAK OCCURS JUST ABOVE THE THE EXHAUST PIPE RADIANT HEAT SHEILD.
