The drivers side locking mechanism doesn’t work with the key fab all of a sudden and I have to climb in through my passenger side door
I have a Hybrid version of the 2023 Corolla in the SE trim. Everytime the car is cold (engine just started), and I'm pressing the brake, I can hear some clicking noises similar to a CV Axle noise when they are bad. That braking noise goes away as the car heat up. The noise is sensitive to speed, it changes frequency with it. I haven't experience loss of brakes but I'm concerned with the noise and the possibility of it.
after fueling strong fuel smell in vehicle within 100 miles check fuel cap light came on. next day check engine light came on. made appointment at dealership . dealership performed evap smoke test which found smoke coming from top of fuel cell. installed fuel pump ring and evap hose clip. performed evap test and smoke test -passed cleared codes. got car back next day less than 50 miles later ck engine code and fuel cap and fuel odor back.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was shifted to park(P), the word (P) was illuminated on the PRNDL, but the word was not displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact stated that while shifted to drive(D) there was no indication of drive on the PRNDL, or the instrument cluster, and the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while shifted to reverse(R). The contact had been advised by a mechanic on how to reset the parking brake to be able to shift to park(P), drive(D) or reverse(R). The contact had been advised to lift the parking brake lever and hold it for 5 seconds and then depress the lever and hold for 5 seconds. The contact was able to shift to any gear, and the vehicle would move after performing the reset. The contact normally did not engage the parking brake, however, when the failure first occurred, the warning "EPB Stopped Completely" illuminated twice but had not illuminated in weeks. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had gradually become a recurring failure. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Component: VISIBILITY / SUN VISOR Vehicle: 2023 Toyota Corolla Both the driver-side and passenger-side sun visors in my 2023 Toyota Corolla have failed within approximately two years of normal use. The visors no longer remain in their intended position and instead fall downward unexpectedly. When this occurs, the visor drops directly into the driver’s field of vision, creating a significant safety hazard by obstructing forward visibility while driving. This condition can happen without warning and requires the driver to physically move the visor out of the way, causing distraction and increasing the risk of an accident. The vehicle has not been modified, damaged, or subjected to abnormal conditions. The visors were used only as intended. Sun exposure is a normal and expected condition for this component, and failure under these circumstances indicates a potential defect in materials or workmanship. Both visors failing in the same manner suggests a systemic issue rather than isolated wear and tear. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership, where I was initially told the repair would be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. However, the claim was later denied and classified as “wear and tear” due to sun exposure. Given the function of sun visors, this explanation is not reasonable. This issue presents an ongoing safety concern due to impaired driver visibility. I am submitting this complaint so that this defect can be reviewed and tracked for potential broader impact.
A message came out that I need to maintain the engine and take it to the concierge and they told me that it is the coolant by pass valve
Moisture and water got into the front head light causing it to go out . The blinker , low light and bright light on front driver went out while I was on the highway.
I got a message that the engine needs maintenance and I should go to the dealership and have the coolant bypass valve repaired. I see there's a lawsuit against Toyota for a manufacturing defect in that component on 2019-2023 Corollas. I'd like to know if I'll get a refund.
7 months ago when my car had 56k miles my transmission was bad and they replaced but now is giving problems again i took it to lia toyota of rockland and they didn’t do anything about it, that the transmission is ok, but bad smell is coming out of the transmission and is hard to shift and it gives like hard pull when it changes into gear and u can hear the clunky sound of the transmission and it has only run for 19k miles and it has been only 7 months since they replaced
My Toyota, the 12.3-inch display screen fails to turn on when I start the vehicles or could unexpectedly shut down while driving.
I was at an intersection, and the engine suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. This message shows up on dashboard: Steering power low. It asked me to put it on park and turn the engine back on. Very dangerous
I am experiencing persistent and unresolved issues with the infotainment and display system in my Toyota Corolla, primarily involving Apple CarPlay overriding the driver display. Even when I manually disable the setting that allows CarPlay/navigation to take over the display behind the steering wheel, the system does not retain this setting. After turning the car off and restarting it, the navigation/map interface reappears and overrides the driver display again. This behavior is extremely distracting while driving and interferes with my ability to safely view normal vehicle information. It has created multiple situations where I felt at risk of a collision due to unexpected display changes and distraction. In addition, there are ongoing system malfunctions including: •Volume controls becoming unresponsive (the slider does not adjust sound), requiring the system to be restarted to function again. •Intermittent failure of the phone connection/charging port, where the device does not connect properly to the system. A prior software update temporarily addressed one issue, but the core problems persist. I have been attempting to resolve this through Ardmore Toyota dealership in PA for approximately one year without a meaningful fix or access to a qualified technician. This appears to be a recurring software or system defect that affects driver attention and vehicle operation. I am concerned this creates a significant safety risk for myself and others on the road. No one has taken me seriously even after I’ve gone to several Toyota dealerships over and over and I explained my concerns and they promise that I’ll be on a list of waitlist to be seen by a field tech technician however that has never happened and they are refusing to provide assistance.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the infotainment screen unexpectedly turned on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the infotainment system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
While driving my vehicle Southbound on [XXX] in the Simpsonville/Fountain Inn area of South Carolina, my vehicle suffered some sort of catastrophic failure while driving and became completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle was a total loss. The vehicle had been serviced a little over a month prior to this incident happening. The fire department took a report for the fire. When idling my car makes a rattling sound and vibrates and oil smells like fuel only got 12k on it when I bought it which I just bought it not even a month ago used.
The Toyota Corolla LE screen goes blank and does not show any information. When the screen does work, the map malfunctions and shows the vehicle and directions in various bodies of water and displays unsafe routes. The car is available for inspection upon request. You are unable to drive hands free which increases the risk of distracted driving. Map routes to unsafe areas which can make a driver drive into areas that are unsafe to themselves and endanger other motorists and pedestrians. By the Toyota dealership, yes. They stated there was no recall for it and that they could not recreate the issues. No.
Since purchasing this vehicle new, I've had several occasions (not on just the most recent date noted in this case) where the car will issue a false Pre-collision Alert and apply the brakes for about 1 second while using the Adaptive Cruise Control. However, this happens while me and the drivers around me are driving "normally" and there are no vehicles in front of me nor attempting to merge into my lane. There does not seem to be a particular set of conditions that cause this false alert and they happen randomly, but it is startling when they happen since there is no observable reason for it. Fortunately, there has not been anyone tail-gating me when this happens because this could easily cause a rear-end collision if someone were following too close. I've notified my local dealer about this issue more than once, but they cannot find anything wrong.
To start, on [XXX], I was going through an intersection on a country road and my automatic emergency braking engaged for no reason. My car stopped despite no other vehicle or object being in my way or anywhere close to me. I found it really weird but did not think much about after the fact. I have also heard a rattling noise under my hood since [XXX] and have reported this to Toyota and tried to have it fixed multiple times (and showed them videos) but they were never able to duplicate the noise so it has not been remedied. On [XXX] I was traveling on a highway during rush hour and the traffic in front of me came to a sudden stop. I braked as hard as I could; my automatic emergency braking did not engage and I rear ended the car in front of me (minimal damage to that car). We both immediately pulled partway onto the narrow left berm (we had both been in the left lane to get onto another highway). My car then turned off by itself and gave me an engine warning (I believe low engine oil- I had just had it serviced 3 days prior). The other car owner and I exchanged information quickly and decided to drive away because we were blocking rush hour traffic and it was dangerous. However, my car would not start back up. I called 911 and they came to use their vehicle to push me to the right side of the highway onto an exit where I was no longer blocking traffic. During the wait, I felt like I was going to die with traffic honking and swerving to avoid me. When the police officer was moving my car, the parking brake engaged when I put the car in neutral and would not turn off, so the smell of burning rubber was strong since the tires would not roll. Once the tow truck driver arrived he was able to use jumper cables to disengage the parking brake but the car still would not start. There were no prior warning lights. The car not starting was confirmed by the dealer- they are holding off doing maintenance to have an engineer check out the car and figure out what happened. On [XXX], around 7:45 PM, My husband and I were driving on [XXX] from Atlanta to visit family at John’s Creek. We were driving at a steady speed of approximately 70mph on the second lane from the left when all of a sudden, the vehicle displayed a 'malfunction' alert and began swerving uncontrollably. Despite our attempts to regain control, the car swerved right, striking another vehicle three lanes away. We had no control over the steering or bringing the car to a safe stop. After colliding with the other vehicle, it then returned to its original lane and came to a sudden stop with a message displayed stating 'Shifting to P'. During this incident, an SOS call was automatically placed to Toyota, and we were subsequently connected to 911 through them. Our vehicle got damaged due to this and so did the other vehicle that got hit. The vehicle not only endangered our lives but was also a potential harm to others on the road. We were driving on [XXX] near Norcross, GA about 200 ft from exit [XXX] at a constant speed of around 70 mph, when suddenly the vehicle displayed 'system malfunction' and started veering on its own and the brakes wouldn't work. It kept veering to the right and crashed into a vehicle 2 lanes away and rebounded back to the original lane and came to a halt with a message displayed 'Shifting to P'. The malfunction and loss of control, along with the brakes not functioning those few seconds/minutes put our lives and others' on the road at risk. The vehicle is available for inspection. The vehicle was towed on the day of the accident and then taken into a Toyota dealership and is currently there. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. Toyota sent a third-party inspector to gather data from the vehicle but that turned out to be merely the crash data up to 5 seconds prior by which time the malfunction had already occurred and the vehicle speed was down from 70mph to 31mph. The incident occurred on Thursday, [XXX]. We do not feel safe driving that vehicle again. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On10/19/2024, the driver was driving down a road that was coming down from a slope and the road curves to the left. As the driver was braking to decrease the speed down to 30mph or below (she was going around 35mph from what she remembers) and turning the steering wheel left, all the curtain air bags deployed, the seatbelt locked and she was unable to turn the steering wheel. She couldn't see due to the airbags and the seatbelt locking her back so when she felt/heard scraping on the right she feared she was going to crash into trees so she yanked as hard as possible to the left and the car then stopped. She remembers that the screen flashed something like an SOS but then it faded. Bystanders helped her out of the car as she was still in the car (she was very shaken) and they tried to put the car in neutral as it was blocking the road to push it but they were unsuccessful as the wheels had locked. The police and a tow truck was called by a bystander. Other than a small scrape on the right fender of the bumper, there was no damage to the car. Nothing was in the road. The bystanders asked her if she had a stroke or some medical issue since there was no collision, no damage notable on the car and the car just stopped on the road. Inside all the curtain bags are deployed. The police officer and the tow truck driver thought that the sensor for rolling might have gotten triggered but there was nothing that they could see that would have triggered it. Toyota was contacted and the insurance company was unsure if this was considered a collision. Toyota wanted to investigate the car themselves and we signed a letter giving them permission to download data and information from the car. We were told they would be sending someone to physically look at the car.
When using built in carplay navigation the gps will start drifting 10-20 feet from the highway into field or other highways causing it to reroute constantly. When phone is disconnected from CarPlay during the gps drifting current location will go back to right location on the phone. We tried connecting different phone to Corolla all had the same issues. My other two cars Don’t have this issue using the phones. Dealers won’t address the issue
I would like to raise a concern regarding the headlight shadow issue in the 2023 Toyota Corolla. Specifically, there are noticeable dark spots or shadows when using the low beams, which significantly obscure portions of the road during night driving. I believe this is a design flaw in the vehicle’s lighting system. My parents, aged [XXX] and [XXX] , have found this shadow effect to be particularly challenging, making it difficult and unsafe for them to drive at night. Additionally, I understand that many other 2023 Toyota Corolla owners have expressed similar complaints, which further suggests this issue is widespread and deserves attention. Recall fixed 8/10/24. Please update NHTSA system.
Fuel Injector failed, causing the engine to run extremely rich, misfire, and cause severe drivability issues. Issue occurred just outside vehicle base warranty. Problem was verified and confirmed by vehicle dealership. MIL was illuminated when drivability issue and malfunction started.
Multiple malfunctions causing the engine to misfire and eventually seize completely. Toyota never found out the issue but the engine failed. The suspect poor build quality. The engine, brake collision system, fuel pump all went out. Car was rough idling for about two weeks before the engine completely failed. Toyota has lemoned it.
Description of problem/issue: Dear Reader: I recently purchased a new (certified preowned) vehicle and ever since then I have been experiencing some concerns with its handling on the road. This letter seeks to communicate this matter to the proper establishment for some possible recourse. On level roads while the steering wheel is centered straight up (near/over 40mph), the car tends to automatically glide to the left of the lane or coast quickly to the right and won’t stay centered in the lane very long without driver input to steer the car back to the center of the lane. Then when re-centering the car it roams in the other direction, and so forth (an oscillating effect). The issue is that the car diverts from the center of the lane and to maintain the center of the lane the driver has to constantly work at pulling the vehicle back to center. This is not the type of driving performance that I would expect on a new or certified new vehicle. It is both a nuisance and a hazard having to constantly steer the vehicle to center up in the lane. The car’s auto Lane Assist and Departure Assist and auto Steering Assist features are turned off during this time. And even when all these Driver Assist Features are turned back on the drifting/pulling pattern is quite pronounced or seems to be compensating in my opinion. A Google search of the term “2023 Toyota corolla pulls to both sides” produces some great results as to the possible cause and effect. I have never driven a vehicle that diverts so quickly from its own lane so shortly after the driver’s hand is removed from the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the issues that I pointed out remains very alarming and nerve-racking for me! For safety reasons I’m still not pleased with how the car handles on the road. I wonder if there are any Safety Recalls, current or pending, concerning any of the steering or alignment components/features that would help resolve this problem?
I was in a extremely bad accident, I was parked waiting for the light to turn green, when i felt a massive bang from the back and glided me to the next car, car was totaled and the car was saying the airbags deployed and none deployed at all. There was 4 passengers in total and at the very least one should have deployed.
I purchased this car new from Toyota. The first time I drove it at night the lights were not bright enough. You don't test drive them at night. They are OK if you are driving in the city where it is all lit up. On darker freeways and roads, the lights are horrible, even if the bright lights are on. I live in East San Diego, Blossom Valley, it is dangerous! I paid cash for this car, I took it to the dealership right away. They were rude to me, They said they were new led lights, bulbs can't be changed. When I'm turning it is dark. I've had a new car every 3 years, and never had horrible lighting. Toyota doesn't care.
There's an electrical problem going on with all Toyota vehicles coming out with the new navigation system where goes out and keeps rebooting. Multiple times on cars a year have reported this issue. Causes a distraction as screen goes on and off randomly as you drive and backing up. Also without it you can't see your GPS and find routes. Just simple search and there's many complaints about this issue from consumers being affected as fast as 10 miles into owning car to month or six. Not worth repairing as goes out every other month and don't even last a year before goes out.
I was Useing the lane keeping assist and steering assist. i was driving down the hyw and parts of the solid white line to the right of me was faded or missing with no sholders. a wide truck that was about to pass me going the opposite direction had crossed over the center lane line and the stearing assist jolted me to the right where there was no visible line as i tryed to turn the steerting wheel to the left the assist jolted me to the right as the line became visible again causing us to go in to a big ditch
The contact rented a 2023 Toyota Corolla from Avis Car Rental Company located at 6520 McNair Cir, Sacramento, CA 95837. The contact stated that while renting the vehicle, she became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V480000 (Steering). The contact had not experienced a failure. The contact stated that upon returning the vehicle, she informed Avis Rental Company that the VIN was included in a recall; however, the recall repair was not performed on the vehicle.
Brake booster failure and lost power due to malfunctioned battery . Car could not start and had to be transported by road assistance to dealer for repair. Dealer had to replace Brake Booster as well as replace battery with a new one. Car was purchased brand new in March 2023. Only 10700 miles on it.
The Lane Departure System works poorly on county 2 lane roads. It is constantly obtaining and losing track of the left/right hand sides of a lane. (For reference, my 2017 Toyota RAV4 has no issues tracking the edges of these same roads.) The issue is that when it obtains tracking just before entering a curve, the system jerks the steering wheel in the direction that it thinks the vehicle needs to go. This happens suddenly and forcefully with no warning and I have had several instances where the system has steered the vehicle into the opposite lane or almost sent me into the ditch. System works fine on well lined interstate roads.
The Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning DO NOT work in the rain. I have had 2 instances when using ACC where the vehicle would continue the set speed even though vehicles in front of me have slowed down. I have had to manually brake to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. I have had 1 instance where a vehicle merged into my lane and barely missed the front of my vehicle although my vehicle continued at the set speed and I came within what appeared to be inches of that vehicle and had to manually brake to avoid a collision. This always happens when cruising on the interstate in the rain...system works fine when dry. This is apparently an issue with all Corollas or Toyota Safety Sense 3 because the dealer told me they have had several complaints about this.
My car has a recall from the driver airbag maynot deployed. I scheduled an appointment with the dealership for fixing my car, I dropped off my car. 20 minutes later they call me and said it’s not available to get fix. I asked them what should I do, they said they don’t know. I called to the Recall center, they asked me to call to Toyota Brand. Then the girl at Toyota brand told me to call to the dealership. I don’t feel safe when my car has a recall on driver airbag has a problem. What if I got into the accident? Who will be the one has a responsibility for that? Also it’s a brand new car. And they said they don’t know anything or even tried to help me with another safer car. I feel unsafe when I driving within knowing that my driver airbag might not be able to help me of I get in a crash!
Low beam lights have a shadow that moves as car turns or goes up/down hills. When driving in dark back roads I see a line of shadow about 30’ ahead of me blacking out entire view. When high beams are on the shadow disappears. Bought car yesterday. Advised salesman. Will make appt to have it looked at. I have a video but it is failing to download.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V483000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while attempting to adjust the steering wheel, the steering column failed to lock into place. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed and determined that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 35,000.
Intermittently and without warning for the past few months the vehicle will at times fail to accelerate properly when pulling out in heavy traffic. The RPMs go past 5000 RPMs and the vehicle barely moves. When I let off the gas and reapply gas the vehicle will go. Vehicle also jerks and hesitates at speeds between 0 -. 30 mph. Disengaging the vehicles traction control helps to alleviate issue. Vehicle and issue will be presented to my Toyota dealer.
Low beam headlights have shadows that prevent me from seeing all of the roadway at night. Vehicle has been presented to multiple dealerships that have failed to correct this potentially dangerous issue. The last dealership stated it was "normal" and no fix is available. The issue did cause me to hit a tire on the interstate earlier this year and continues to make night driving hazardous. I will continue to present the issue to my Toyota dealer to have the issue fixed. Future updates will be provided on this issue.
My wife & I were involved in a 4 vehicle accident on Tuesday September 12, 2023 at approximately 4:30pm. We were traveling north on Highway 17 ( Ogeechee road ) toward Savannah Georgia. We had stopped at the 2nd red light at Highway 204 & 17. The light turned green and the vehicles in front of me started moving, we proceeded north and went through the green traffic light at Little Neck road about 500 feet beyond the intersection all of the sudden everyone was stopped, before I could react to it I was rear ended by a 2013 Toyota Venza which in turn made me hit a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck which in turn caused him to hit the vehicle that was stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. I couldn't see why the Silverado was stopped because the Dodge Ram was blocking my view.. I would estimate my speed at the time of impact between 30mph to 40 mph.. The airbags in my car did not deploy, fortunately we were wearing our seatbelts. Luckily no one was seriously injured in this accident. So our main question is " why " didn't our airbags deploy??

Coming home from work at 9:40pm a deer hit my car. I got no notification from my car about an object near my vehicle. I stopped my car lights were flashing and the operator on my car assist came on about detecting an accident. My cab filled with smoke and a funny smell. I thought the car was on fire. So I jumped out ambulance and cops showed up. My car got towed to Clifton collision in Clifton Texas. Later I found out that the air bags should have deployed . All my seat belts are locked up in the front and back. But no air bag deployment. The air bag light is on. After 4 months of my vehicle in the shop with me making payments and insurance payments still no vehicle back for me. My car sits at Toyota in Waco. Jeff hunter toyota waiting on emcu for the air bags with no eta. All the seatbelts had to be cut out of the car and the air bags replaced. I have called Toyota advocate to try to resolve my problem and still no help from them. This is a major safety concern that could take someone’s life.
The low beam headlights have dark shadows which prevent me from seeing the left side of the roadway. I took the vehicle to the dealer and had low beams adjusted. After the adjustment I was constantly flashed by on coming drivers to lower my headlight beams which were already on low beams. Due to blinding oncoming drivers the lights were adjusted back down and the dark shadows returned. I have already hit a tire in the road on the interstate due to not seeing it because of the shadows. The low beam headlights make driving at night DANGEROUS. An acceptable resolution would be to adjust low beams so I can see without blinding oncoming drivers like in all other cars I've owned. I hit the tire approximately around the beginning of June.
Problem 1 there is insufficient visibility of the road at night to drive the car safely. The local police officer helped me measure the distance of road visibility from the front of the car and it was 78 feet. At night with the lights on the top 3/4 of the windshield appears black (opaque) - cannot be seen through. I can only see through the bottom 1/4 of the windshield (left to right, the whole width). Problem 2 the transmission had to be replaced. Problem 3 the computer console only connects to the cell phone 25% of the time. This prevents the ability to use GPS and emergency phone calling while driving. Toyota said there is no problem with the visibility, that the police is incorrect, and there is a known defect with the computer connecting to android phones (after they insisted it was fine). I've been a wreck over this - I don't feel safe driving the car, and can't drive it at night. Toyota has said there's nothing they are planning to do to address these issues, except perphaps there will be software fix for the console/phone connection problem someday. FYI I have all the repair documents but didn't know how to scan/upload them here. So let me know if you need these, and perhaps some other way I could get them to you. If there is an email address I could send pictures of them. Or you could obtain these from Lexington Toyota (Lexington MA). There was also a driving video at nighttime, and I have a video/audio of the transmission womp womp noise, but didn't know how to get those to you either.
