While the contact’s father was driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The contact’s father was able to regain control of the vehicle by releasing the accelerator pedal and allowing the vehicle to decelerate. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road to inspect the vehicle. The driver became aware that the tread on the driver's side tire had separated, causing a portion of the tire near the seam to detach around the entire tire. The tire was a replacement tire. The driver replaced the tire with the spare. The contact sent an email to American Tire Depot where the tire was purchased. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 194,040, and the tire failure mileage was approximately 17,339.
MY SON DRIVES THIS TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2006 BY MY FATHER IN LAW. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE WHEEL SHOOK, MY SON HEARD A POP, AND THE LEFT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE BARRING THUS SKIDDING ON THE GROUND. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER TO BE EVALUATED.
TIRE SIDE WALL BLOWOUT FAILURE . I HAVE HAD 2 OF 4 NEW COOPER TIRES FAIL WITHIN THE LAST 4 WEEKS . ONE ON THE HWY. AT LOW SPEED AND ONE SITING IN MY SHOP BOTH WERE PROPERLY INFLATED .SIZE AND TYPE COOPER DISCOVERY SRX 265/65R17 A 50% FAILURE RATE IS NOT THAT GOOD TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 2000. MILES ON THEM
MY TIRES WERE ROTATED BY DISCOUNT TIRES (3836 PLAZA DR., OCNSD, CA). THEY DID NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE LUGS ON MY RIGHT DRIVER SIDE TIRE AND IT FLEW OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND BADLY DAMAGED MY CAR. THEY ARE DENYING ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND ASSUME THAT THE LUGS ARE EITHER TIGHTENED FULLY OR NOT AT ALL. I LOCATED ALL THE LUGS AND ONLY ONE SHEARED OFF THE STUFF. ALSO THE SAFETY STUD WAS NOT TIGHTENED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY TRAIN THEY EMPLOYEES FOR PROPER AND SAFE TIRE ROTATION. ALSO PLEASE LET ME KNOW ANY OTHER AGENCY THAT OVERSEES TIRE ROTATION BUSINESSES. THANK YOU.
I PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FROM BF GOODRICH DEALER IN MINNESOTA ON12/9/2015 THEY MOUNTED AND BALANCED AND INSTALLED THE TIRES. THEN ON 9/01/2017 I HAD A REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODE AND COME APART AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BROUGHT THE DAMAGED TIRE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH INSTALLED THEM AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TIRES THE DEALER SOLD ME AS NEW TIRES HAD A MANUFACTURES DATE OF 09/2000 THAT MEANT THAT THE TIRES WHERE OVER 15 YEARS OLD THAT THEY SOLD ME AS NEW TIRES AND I BELIEVE THAT IS ULTIMATELY THE ISSUE OF THE TIRE EXPLODING CAUSING A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT TYPE OF ACTION AS A CONSUMER I CAN TAKE TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM........SINCE THE ORIGINAL 70B RECALL. I WAS BACKING INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED. MY SON AND I HAD JUST COME OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. MY TIRE WAS NEARLY OFF THE TRUCK AND IT JAMMED INTO THE LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANEL, I COULD NOT EXIT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE NUT CAME OFF AND WAS ON THE GROUND, THE COTTER PIN WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND OF COURSE THEY WOULD NOT MAY FOR THIS REPAIR. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN PART OF A MASS RECALL BY TOYOTA MOTORS. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM AND POTENTIAL DANGER. *TR
THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RUST UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK, DESPITE THE FRAME BEING REPLACED FROM A VOLUNTARY RECALL. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM HAS DETERIORATED FROM RUST AND IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 188,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT DUE TO THE POROSITY IN THE INTERIOR OF THE WHEELS, AIR WOULD LEAK OUT FROM THE WHEELS CAUSING THE TIRES TO DEFLATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ALL FOUR RIMS ARE THE ALLOY WHEEL . THEY ARE ALL BLISTERING AND PIECES OF RIMS ARE FALLING OUT. CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD IN SHORT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THEM AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY ALSO WOULD NOT COMMENT IF THERE WERE OTHERS COMPLAINTS ON THE RIMS. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO UNTIL THEY ARE IN RECALL. *TR
WHEEL CORROSION ON MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4D V8. DEALER HAD THE WHEELS REPLACED ABOUT 2 YRS. AGO (STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME). NOW HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM OR BUBBLING/CORROSION UNDER THE SEALANT/PAINT WITH THE NEW WHEELS AND BEING TOLD, "SORRY, THEY'RE OUT OF WARRANTY". WOULD APPEAR TO BE AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING PROCESS DEFECT TO ME THAT WOULD LEAD TO EVENTUAL LACK OF STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. *TR

I FEEL THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE AND CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ALLOY WHEELS ON TOYOTA TRUCKS CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY AND POSSIBLE DEATH TO DRIVER AND/OR PASSENGERS. ALLOY WHEELS ARE CORRODING WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES AND TOYOTA WON'T EVEN CALL ME BACK. SERVICE MANAGER AT NORTHSHORE TOYOTA IN LOUISIANA SAID IT WAS DUE TO EXTREME USE. THIS WAS AFTER A 30 SECOND INSPECTION. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A FACTORY REP. I WAS TOLD THAT WOULD NOT HAPPEN. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND BY TOYOTA. I HAVE OWNED AND RECOMMENDED TOYOTA'S SINCE 1974 AND WILL NOW SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER MY POSITION. *TR

THE CONTACT PURCHASED SPECIAL VALVES FOR HIS TIRES FROM TOYOTA, ALONG WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HE RECENTLY FOUND EXTREME CORROSION ON THE VALVES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER CORROSION AND THE CONTACT PAID $220 FOR EACH VALVE. HE WANTED TO POINT OUT THAT HE WAS NOT REPORTING A FAILURE WITH HIS TIRES. HIS ISSUE WAS WITH THE DEFECTED VALVES ON THE TIRES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON 30 SEPT 2006 AT ABOUT 3:00 PM, I JUST HAD MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED WASHED AT A FACILITY IN CONROE, TX. I DEPARTED, THERE DROVE ABOUT A HALF A MILE AT A SPEED OF 15-20 MPH AND HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE HAVING THIS TIRE CHANGED BY AAA I WAS ROBBED BY TWO BLACK THUGS WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE DISABLED SITUATION. IT WAS WITNESSED BY THE TIRE CHANGER AND IT WAS SO BOLD THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE TAG NUMBER OR TOTAL DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE EXCEPT MAKE, COLOR, AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE CONROE, TX POLICE DEPARTMENT. TIRES ARE KEPT AT PROPER PRESSURE, MAINTAINED BY ME AND THE TOYOTA EQUIPPED PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. SINCE THIS HAD NO CAUSE EXCEPT FAILURE OF THE TIRE, MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE ON BRIDGESTONE EXTENDED MILEAGE TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. SO AT 17,000 MILES I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE 4 NEW DIFFERENT BRAND TIRES TO PROVIDE FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THIS MANUFACTURERS FLAW CAUSED ME TO GET ROBBED AND PLACED ME IN UNNECESSARY DANGER OF BEING KILLED OR INJURED WHILE OUTSIDE OF A DISABLED VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT BRIDGESTONE SOLD TO TOYOTA A DEFECTIVE TIRE WHICH WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE TO ONLY ASSUME THAT THE OTHER THREE MAY HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. I WANT BRIDGESTONE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE FOUR TIRES AT A COST OF $827.73. *JB
