TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS STARTED THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED IN THE OFF POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS IN WHICH THERE WERE NO SERVICE REPAIRS PERFORMED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER POSITIONED ON THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE AIR BAG TO BECOME NONFUNCTIONAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN RECALIBRATED THE AIR BAG AND IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY FOR ONE WEEK. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE CONSISTENT FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,132.
TAKATA RECALL HAVE BEEN GETTING CALLS AND MAILERS FOR A FEW OF YEARS. HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIME,. BUT HAVE NEVER RECEIVED 'ANY' POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE RESPONSE FROM THEM.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
