The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the TPMS replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V185000 (Tires) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
YOKOHAMA TIRE BLOW OUT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH 5 FEB 2017. YOKOHAMA P275/65R18 GEOLANDER HTS. READ TIRE, SIDEWALL RUPTURE. NO ROAD HAZARD CONTACT. TIRES PURCHASED FROM TREAD QUARTERS IN HAMPTON VA AUG 2016. APPROX. 7000 MILES ON THE TIRES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE REAR WHEELS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY MECHANICAL NEGLIGENCE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE WHEELS MAY NOT BE SECURE BECAUSE A SPECIAL WRENCH WAS REQUIRED TO TIGHTEN THE LUG NUTS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1,100. UPDATED 06/09/09 *BF THE DEALER STATED THE LUGS WERE HARD TO TORQUE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE POLICE AND FILED A REPORT. UPDATED 06/11/09.*JB
