TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING MORE FUEL THAN NORMAL. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FUEL LINE WHERE THE FUEL CIRCULATION FAILED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER SENT THREE NOTICES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN OCTOBER 2011. UPDATED 01/04/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11003 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MOTOR LOST MOST POWER BUT WAS ABLE TO GO 10-15MPH TO GET TO END OF TRIP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHED ON & OFF. CALLED VW AND THEY SCHEDULED APPT FOR NEXT DAY, SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE IN. BEGAN DRIVE HOME ON MAJOR CITY STREET. WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. CAR STALLED IN LEFT LANE BLOCKING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE DRIVER OF THE FOLLOWING CAR WAS ABLE TO STOP TRAFFIC ENOUGH TO ALLOW US TO PUSH THE DEAD VW OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT. CARS WERE ATTEMPTING TO PASS US AS WE PUSHED IT TO THE SIDE. CALLED VW AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK. DIAGNOSTICS THE NEXT DAY FOUND METAL IN THE TDI DIESEL HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. FUEL SYSTEM IS TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
I WAS DRIVEN UP A SMALL HILL GOING ABOUT 20 MPH AND AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN THE ENGINE STALLED. THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE STALLING. I LOST POWER COMPLETELY AND THERE WAS NO WAY THAT I COULD RESTART THE CAR. I KNEW THAT IT WAS NOT ELECTRICAL BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO PUT ON MY FLASHERS. *TR
DSG MECHATRON UNIT FAILURE: VEHICLE HAD MULTIPLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYS. THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON, THEN GO OFF FOR SOME TIME AND THE DEALER KEPT TELLING ME IT WAS PROBABLY A GAS CAP ISSUE. FINALLY AFTER ABOUT 4-8 TIMES OF THIS HAPPENING I ADVISED THE DEALER I WAS BRINING IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT. DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF ON SEPT 8TH AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PART WILL COME IN. HAVE SAID IT MAY BE NOVEMBER 7TH, BUT THAT IS NOT GUARANTEED. THIS VEHICLE HAD CHANGED GEARS WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND ALMOST MADE IT UNCONTROLLABLE FOR HER AND IT IS NOT SAFE. *TT
THE VEHICLE GLOW POINT WARNING LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND VEHICLE LOST POWER. RESTARTED AND DROVE HOME WITH NO FURTHER INDICATOR LIGHTS. RESTARTED THE FOLLOWING MORNING, CHECK ENGINE AND GLOW POINT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED (GLOW POINT WAS FLASHING). CAR LOST POWER TO THE POINT THAT WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME THE CAR COULD NOT CLIMB THE RAMP UNDER ITS OWN POWER THOUGH ENGINE WAS RUNNING. VW DEALER REPORTS THAT FUEL PUMP DISINTEGRATED AND SENT METAL FRAGMENTS INTO FUEL SYSTEM DAMAGING COMPONENTS OF SYSTEM BUT NOT ENTERING ENGINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALL OF THE OTHER DOOR LOCKS BECAME DEFECTIVE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. UPDATED 02/20/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND THEY COULD NOT BE LOCKED MANUALLY. UPDATED 02/21/13
VEHICLE STALLED IN RIGHT LANE OF TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART. LOCATION HAD NO SHOULDER AND DID NOT ALLOW VEHICLE TO BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC. TOWED TO DEALER AND TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND THAT A COMMON CAUSE WAS GAS IN DIESEL. OUR OTHER TWO VEHICLES ARE ALSO DIESEL SO WE ARE USED TO SELECTING DIESEL FUEL. (LATER TEST BY DEALER SHOWED NO INDICATION OF GAS IN FUEL) THERE WAS AN CRASH INVOLVING TWO OTHER VEHICLES TRYING TO GET AROUND OUR DISABLED VEHICLE. I DID NOT KNOW IF THIS COUNTED AS A CRASH ABOVE. *TR
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE PER DEALER. *TR
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY AN AUDIBLE WARNING CHIME WITH A FLASHING GLOW PLUG INDICATOR WHICH LISTS AS AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION IN THE MANUAL. 1-2 MILES LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS STEERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION. 3 ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH NO SUCCESS. VW ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED. 1 HOUR LATER, THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED TO TOW THE 2010 VW JETTA TDI TO THE VW DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS AFTER HOURS AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE KEY WAS LEFT IN THE DROP BOX WITH DETAILED EXPLANATION OF ISSUE ON PROVIDED ENVELOPE. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO POSSIBLE METAL CONTAMINANTS THROUGHOUT FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MORE WEEK OF REPAIR. SO FAR THE ESTIMATE ON THE REPAIR IS AROUND $8,000. WHICH IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 15,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, ENGINE STALLS, WILL NOT RESTART. ACCORDING TO DEALER IT IN A IN TANK FUEL PUNP ISSUE REQUIRING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL TANK WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/4 FULL (HAD RUN THROUGH 3/4 OF TANK). NO FUELING ERRORS. 2010 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI. VEHICLE SHOWED NO WARNING SIGNS. NO SPUTTERING, NO LACK OF RESPONSIVENESS, ETC. PRIOR TO FAILURE. *TR
AIRBAG ERROR LIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN HE WAS INVOLVED IN A THREE VEHICLE CRASH. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ONE VEHICLE AND ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT WAS THROWN INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND CHEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT TO DEPLOY BECAUSE THE SENSORS WERE NOT ACTIVATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
IMPLODING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. *TR
2010 TDI JETTA SPORTWAGEN STALLED ON DECELERATION LANE, EXITING HIGHWAY. *KB
MY PARTNER WAS DRIVING ON A CURBED 4 LANE ROAD WITH BIKE LANES AT 40 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND QUIT IMMEDIATELY. WOULD NOT RESTART. LEFT SITTING HALFWAY IN THE RIGHT LANE AND HALFWAY IN THE BIKE LANE. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER FOUND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP SENDING DEBRIS INTO THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. STILL 2000 MILES WITHIN POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AT 34,000 MILES. ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL GLOW-PLUG LIGHT FLASHED SOLID, COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE STALLED, AND NO RESTART. DEALER STATED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONTAMINATED ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.
2010 VW JETTA TDI. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, VEHICLE LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL INTO A SHOPPING PLAZA. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS HPFP (HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP) PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT: HTTP://FORUMS.TDICLUB.COM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=299854 CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER, ESTIMATE IS 7-8 DAYS FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 VW JETTA TDI WITH DSG AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE HAS 15K MILES ON IT THUS FAR. WHEN PULLING OUT ONTO A STREET FROM A COMPLETE STOP THERE IS A DEFINITE AND HAZARDOUS HESITATION BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE FORWARD. THIS ISSUE EXISTED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. SOMETIMES THE HESITATION IS VERY SHORT BEFORE THE CAR WILL MOVE, OTHER TIMES IT TAKES THE CAR A MOMENT AS IF THE CAR HAS TO "THINK" ABOUT WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO. WHEN I PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR JUST SITS THERE! THE LONGER HESITATIONS ARE FAIRLY FREQUENT AND ARE A DANGER TO OTHER VEHICLES, MY FAMILY AND MYSELF. I DON'T TRUST THIS CAR TO BE ABLE TO QUICKLY MOVE OUT OF HARM'S WAY IN AN EMERGENCY AND ALSO DON'T TRUST IT TO PULL ONTO A STREET IN FRONT OF ANY OTHER VEHICLE NO MATTER HOW FAR AWAY THE OTHER VEHICLE IS DOWN THE ROAD. IT'S JUST NOT SAFE TO DO SO! VW SHOULD BE FORCED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND PROVIDE A FIX FOR THIS COMMON ISSUE AND COMPLAINT THAT CAN BE READ ABOUT ON VARIOUS VW FORUMS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. NO INJURIES YET FROM THIS ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I KNOW BETTER THAN TO TRY TO PULL OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR
VEHICLE WAS GOING AT 25 MPH WHEN IT STARTED LOSING POWER. IT STOPPED BARELY FEW FEET AFTER THE INTERSECTION. ENGINE WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER INVESTIGATION DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THEY FOUND TRACES OF GASOLINE IN THE FUEL PUMP AND GASOLINE HAS DESTROYED THE FUEL SYSTEM. I SHOWED THEM MY LAST THREE RECEIPTS AS PROOF THAT I ALWAYS PUT DIESEL IN THE VEHICLE. CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE 01-AUG-2011. THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SYSTEM. INITIALLY THEY HAVE QUOTED ABOUT $4800 + LABOR BUT LATER ON THEY AGREED TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY , CAR IS ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 1800 MILES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AS I STILL WOULD END UP GOING TO THE SAME DIESEL STATIONS FOR FILLING AND IF THEY ARE CONTAMINATED AS DEALER SAYS I MAY END UP WITH A DEAD ENGINE AGAIN.
THE FIRST TIME INCIDENT HAPPENED CAR ALMOST STALLED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AN CAR HAD LOSS OF POWER CAR WAS TAKEN TO COOLEY VW THEY TOLD ME AT FIRST THAT IT WAS A TUBE FROM THE TURBO HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER SO I CALLED BACK A WEEK LATER AN THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE EMISSION SYSTEM WAS PLUGGED AN IT HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT TOOK THEM A MONTH TO COMPLETE AN THEY PUT 100 MILE ON THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OUT THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR NEED AN EMISSION ECM THEY REPAIRED THE CAR I PICKED THE CAR UP I DIDN'T EVEN GO 1 MILE FROM DEALER AN THE CAR ALMOST STALLED ON ME AGAIN SO I CHECKED THE FUEL FILTER FOR MY SELF AND FOUND THAT IT WAS RUSTING INSIDE FILTER HOUSING AN THE HOUSING WAS FULL OF GOLD METAL FILLING I REPLACED THE 92 DOLLAR FUEL FILTER MYSELF BECAUSE THE DEALER DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE FILTER THE SECOND TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING DOWN I91 IN VERMONT AN THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 68 MPH I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED OVER 100 MILES TO CAPITAL CITY'S VW THEY HAD TOLD ME THAT THE EXHAUST EMISSION WERE PLUGGED AN THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AGAIN THERE WAS ABOUT 4000 MILES ON IT SINCE COOLEY DID IT THEN THE DEALER CALLED ME BACK AN SAID THAT THERE WAS RUST AND THE METAL FILLINGS IN THE FILTER HOUSING AGAIN THE FILTER BARELY 2000 MILES ON THE FILTER CAPITAL CITY'S THEN TOLD ME THAT THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM HAD TO BE CHANGED THEY CHANGED THE TANK PUMPS LINE INJECTOR RAIL INJECTORS ITS BEEN 2000 MILES SINCE THEY DID THAT AND NOW THE CAR IS ACTING UP AGAIN IT HAS ALMOST DIED SEVERAL TIME AGAIN I DON'T WANNA TAKE IT BACK TO DEALER IF THEY ARE GOIN TO KEEP PUTTING THE SAME INFERIOR PART BACK ON 3 TIMES WITH IN 10000 MILES IS RIDICULOUS I AM LOOKIN MYSELF FOR A PUMP THAT WILL WORK SINCE VW DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT RIGHT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY DEALER MAINTAINED 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI THE GLOW PLUG AND ENGINE LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING AND THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART WHEN STOPPED IN A L TURN LANE. TO GET THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD I HAD TO COAST ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND ROLL INTO A GAS STATION. THANKFULLY IT WAS A SATURDAY MORNING AND TRAFFIC WAS MINIMAL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. MONDAY THE DEALER CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) DISINTEGRATED LEAVING METAL SHAVING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. CONSEQUENTLY, THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR HAS 33K ON A 36K WARRANTY, OTHERWISE THE REPAIR COULD COST FROM $7K-$9K. *KB
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN STARTED LOSING POWER AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING THEN A COMPLETE STALL. CAR IS STILL IN THE SERVICE DEPT AT VW. VW STATED THEY ARE NOT QUITE SURE WHAT IS WRONG BUT SUSPECT IT WAS FUEL RELATED ("METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL"). SAID THEY WERE SENDING IT OFF FOR TESTING AND MAYBE A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE THEY KNOW SOMETHING. *TR
OUR 2010 VW JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN UNEXPECTEDLY STALLED SHORTLY AFTER STARTING LAST NIGHT. THE BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON, I THEN TURNED KEYS OFF AND ON AND IT WAS FINE. SAW THAT THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS, SO WANTED TO ADD MINE. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI IN JULY 2010. ON JULY 21, 2011, THE VEHICLE WAS GIVEN ITS FIRST SERVICE AT A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP IN MADISON, WI. THE NEXT DAY, JULY 22, 2011, THE CAR WAS TO BE DRIVEN FROM MADISON, WI, TO NASHVILLE, TN. JUST PAST URBANA, IL, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT, INCREASING TO 190 DEGREES. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATION ABILITY BEGAN DECREASING UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO MORE THAN 72 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BEGAN FLASHING. DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAME DANGEROUS, AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN INTO A REST STOP AND TURNED OFF. VOLKSWAGEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS IN URBANA, IL. O'BRIEN VOLKSWAGEN DETERMINED ON JULY 23, 2011, THAT THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE REPLACEMENT TANK/PUMP HAS BEEN ORDERED AND IS SCHEDULED TO BE REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE ON JULY 26, 2011. WE FOUND THAT THIS COMPLAINT HAS BEEN MADE BY OTHERS, AND WE HOPE THAT THIS WILL BECOME AN OFFICIAL RECALL. IF IT HAD BEEN UNDER RECALL WHEN THE VEHICLE RECEIVED ITS SERVICE ON JULY 21, THE PART(S) COULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THAT TIME, AND THE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. *TR
THE FOLLOWING EVENT OCCURRED ON 22 JULY 2011 IN A 2010 VW JETTA TDI WITH THE DSG. WEATHER WAS SUNNY, CLEAR AND APPROXIMATELY 94 DEGREES. TIME OF DAY WAS 1630 HOURS. I WAS LEAVING WORK AND I ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE TO GO HOME. I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. WHEN I PUSHED ON THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT INCREASE SPEED AND THE "CHECK ENGINE - SERVICE NOW' MESSAGE APPEARED IN THE MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY. ALSO, THE GLOW PLUG INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE BODY. NOTHING APPEARED OUT OF PLACE, BROKEN, LEAKING OR ANY OTHER SYMPTOM WHICH WOULD BE UNUSUAL. I CLOSED THE HOOD, ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. IT STARTED AND IDLED FINE. NO WARNING MESSAGES OR INDICATOR LAMPS APPEARED. I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND MERGED INTO TRAFFIC. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1 OR 2 MILES, THE "CHECK ENGINE - SERVICE NOW" MESSAGE REAPPEARED AND THE MIL LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY STALLED. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. AGAIN, I EXITED THE VEHICLE, CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE BODY BUT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF ANYTHING UNUSUAL. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS IS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILED AND CAUSE METAL SHAVINGS TO BE SENT THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SYMPTOMS AND NOTIFIED A DOCTOR WHO DIAGNOSED THE SYMPTOMS TO BE CAUSED BY TINNITUS AND HYPERACUSIS. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO RECEIVE TREATMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
MY 2010 VW JETTA SPORTS WAGON WITH THE DSG AUTOMATIC IS CURRENTLY HAVING A SEVERE HESITATION WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP. UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION ON CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS SET, PRESSING THE 'COAST/DECELERATE' BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL UNIT TO JUMP BY SEVERAL MPH, I.E. ACCELERATE. EXAMPLE: CRUISE IS SET AT 55 MPH. PRESS THE COAST BUTTON THREE OR FOUR TIMES (CAR SHOULD DECELERATE BY 1 MPH FOR EACH PRESS OF THE BUTTON), THE CRUISE SPEED WILL SET AT A HIGHER SPEED, SUCH AS 58 MPH. THIS CAN BE OBSERVED BY LOOKING AT THE DISPLAY WHICH SHOWS THE SPEED AT WHICH THE CRUISE CONTROL IS SET, AS WELL AS THE ACCELERATION OF THE CAR. THIS BEHAVIOR CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED AND DEMONSTRATED, THOUGH IT DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME. THIS HAS BEEN OBSERVED FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS. *KB

WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP IN THE TANK HAD MALFUNCTIONED, AND CONTAMINATED THE FUEL TANK. ENTIRE FUEL PUMP, TANK, SYSTEM IS BEING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.
BRAKES ON 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGON TDI WEARING UNEVENLY. 90 % FRONT BRAKE PAD LEFT AND 15% PAD LEFT ON THE REAR. VOLKSWAGEN SHOP REPORTS TO ME THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND IS NORMAL. VOLKSWAGEN SHOP MANAGER STATES IT IS DUE TO UNDERSIZED REAR BRAKE PAD CAUSING IT TO WEAR OUT QUICKLY. MANAGER ALSO AGREED THAT 8 OR 9 SETS OF REAR PADS TO ONE SET OF FRONT PADS IS ABOUT THE CORRECT RATIO. PREMATURE PAD WEAR OUT CAN CAUSE LOSS OF REAR WHEEL BREAKING RESULTING IN LOSS OF BREAKING AND MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENT DUE TO LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES. *TT

I HAD COME TO A FULL STOP AND WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT IN A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY. NO MISFIRING OR ROUGH MOMENTS BEFORE STOPPING, JUST A SUDDEN CUT OFF. TRIED STARTING THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES, IN PARK, WITH NO SUCCESS. VW CALLED A TOW TRUCK. BEFORE ACCEPTING A TOW I TURNED THE IGNITION FULLY OFF AND TRIED RESTARTING THE ENGINE. THIS TIME IT STARTED. I CANCELLED THE TOW. CAR IS RUNNING NORMALLY AGAIN. THIS SUDDEN STOPPING OF MY ENGINE HAPPENED ONE OTHER TIME WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 4000 MILES ON IT. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AS I WAS PULLING FORWARD AFTER JUST HAVING PUT IT IN DRIVE. I NOTIFIED VW OF THE MISHAP WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR IT'S FIRST CHECK-UP. VW SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED. THE MECHATRONIC UNIT ON THE DSG FAILED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN IN 1ST GEAR, AND REMAINING IN NEUTRAL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD WHICH IS NOT NORMAL. I PURCHASED MY 2010 JETTA TDI NEW AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2009. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I'M A PRETTY CONSERVATIVE DRIVER AND ATTEMPT TO MAXIMIZE MY MPG. EACH DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SETTING OVERNIGHT AND IS COLD, I START UP AND DRIVE TO THE STORE, A 4 MILE DRIVE, THE ENGINE WILL PAUSE USUALLY WITHIN THAT 4 MILE DRIVE. SOMETIMES IT IS A SHORT JERK AND SOMETIMES IT IS A GREATER JERK. OTHER TIMES IT WILL HAPPEN ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME. BUT IT'LL HAPPEN ONLY ONCE UNTIL IT SETS AND COOLS OFF. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE WITH NO HELP. MY RESEARCH FINDS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH MAY BE THE ISSUE, BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TALK TO VW AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WILL CONFIRM OR DENY THIS. LIGHTS AND RADIO STAYED ON. ONCE AGAIN I ROLLED TO A STOP, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY KEPT IT FOR AN HOUR AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR A WEEK THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE MY PROBLEM. THEIR COMPUTERS WERE HOOKED UP TO MY CAR AT THE TIME, AND SHOWED NO FAULTS.
