1) OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS, THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS OF DRAWING WATER THROUGH THE INTAKE AND CYLINDERS ON STARTUP ON 5-6 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE: ROUGH IDLE (AS THOUGH MISFIRING ON ONE OR MORE CYLINDERS), WHITE SMOKE, DIFFICULTY GAINING ENGINE RPM, AND STUMBLING FOR FIRST 30-60 SECONDS OF OPERATION UNTIL "CLEARED OUT". ON ONE OCCASION, THE STARTER MOTOR WOULD NOT TURN OVER THE ENGINE DUE TO "HYDROLOCKING" PHENOMENON. WHEN THE STARTER WAS RELEASED AND CRANKED AGAIN, THE CAR CRANKED VERY SLOWLY, CAUGHT, AND STARTED EXTREMELY ROUGHLY, AND NEEDED SIGNIFICANT NURSING OF THROTTLE TO "CLEAR OUT". I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON DECEMBER 8TH FOR THE ABOVE BEHAVIOR. THEY COULD OFFER NO EXPLANATION, NO FAULT CODES STORED ON COMPUTER. 2) ON DECEMBER 14TH, DRIVING HOME IN A RAIN AND SNOWSTORM, MY CAR WENT INTO ELECTRONIC LIMP MODE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH. THE DASH FLASHED "SERVICE ENGINE NOW", THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHED, AND POWER WAS CUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY - THEY FOUND THE INTERCOOLER AND PRESSURIZED INTAKE LINES FULL OF 1-1.5 CUPS OF ICE AND WATER. THIS FAILURE OCCURS OFTEN, EACH TIME THE CAR IS RUN FOR AN HOUR AT HUMID BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES. WHEN THE CAR IS SHUTOFF AND ALLOWED TO WARM TO ABOVE FREEZING, LIQUID WATER IS DRAWING DIRECTLY INTO THE CYLINDERS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS CAN INCLUDE: LIMP MODE, ROUGH STARTING, AND COMPLETED ENGINE DESTRUCTION BY HYDROLOCKING AND BENT OR BROKEN CONNECTING RODS. I STRONGLY SUSPECT MY ENGINE IS PERMANENTLY DAMAGED. 3) THE DEALER DRAINED OUT THE WATER AND REASSEMBLED - SAID THEY CONSIDER THE CAR FIXED. THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF WHY THE POOLS OF WATER ARE PRESENT IN THE INTAKE DURING STARTUP AFTER RUNNING IN HUMID FREEZING CONDITIONS. THE CAUSE IS ICING OF THE INTERCOOLER DURING NORMAL OPERATION, WHICH IS A DESIGN FLAW UNCONTROLLED BY THE USER. WHEN ACCUMULATED ICE MELTS DURING A WARM DAY, THE WATER POOLS AND HAS GRAVE POTENTIAL TO DESTROY THE ENGINE. *TR
INTERCOOLER PIPING ACCUMULATES AN OIL/WATER SLUDGE MIXTURE DURING COLD WEATHER DRIVING. WHILE PARKED AFTER DRIVING THE SLUDGE COLLECTS AT THE LOWEST POINT IN THE PIPING. IF TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW FREEZING, THE SLUDGE FORMS A PLUG WHICH PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING. IF IT IS ABOVE FREEZING, THE SLUDGE IS INGESTED INTO THE ENGINE WHERE IT CAUSES HARD STARTS AND ROUGH RUNNING. THIS HAS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS, DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OR EFFECT A REPAIR OTHER THAN PERIODICALLY REMOVING HOSES TO CLEAN OUT ACCUMULATED SLUDGE. *TR
WHILE AT THE DEALER FOR FUEL PUMP FAILURE THE CAR WAS FOUND TO HAVE ANOTHER SERIOUS ISSUE. THERE WAS A SEAL GOING IN TO THE COWLING THAT HAD LEAKED AND CAUSED A MAJOR AMOUNT OF WATER TO LEAK IN TO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE, RIGHT WHERE THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND FUSE PANEL ARE. THIS CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE AND THE CAR TO STALL / NOT RUN DUE TO THE WATER DAMAGE. LUCKILY THIS WAS FOUND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING, OTHERWISE THE CAR WOULD HAVE STOPPED RUNNING DUE TO VOLKSWAGEN'S ERROR OF NOT HAVING A SEALED ACCESS PORT TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
CAR IDLING IN PARK. ENGAGED DSG TRANSMISSION, CAR IMMEDIATELY STALLS.. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART, RUN/STALL, RUN/STALL, RUN/STALL. NOW RUNS ROUGH... MILEAGE DROPPED 20%. CAR AT DEALER - DEALER HAS REPORTED 5 OTHER TDI'S IN SAME CONDITION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, WITHOUT WARNING OR CHANGE OF THROTTLE, ENGINE SLOWED NOTICEABLY. UNABLE TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEED WITHOUT HIGH FUEL CONSUMPTION AND DANGEROUSLY SLOW ACCELERATION. DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATED PROBLEM WITH GLOWPLUG (DIESEL ENGINE) AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER NEXT DAY; TECH REPLACED "PRESSURE PIPE" (FAULTY CHARGE PRESSURE SENSOR ON HIGH PRESSURE FILTER PUMP) AND "FLASHED" ECM. ENGINE'S ACCELERATION STILL BELOW WHAT IT WAS PRIOR TO EVENT. *TR
2010 VOLKSWAGEN SPORTWAGEN TDI. CAR SUFFERED DOZENS OF LOSS OF POWER INCIDENTS, SEVERAL LEFT THE CAR WITHOUT POWER AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. REPEAT VISIT TO DEALER DID NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM, DEALER WAS AGGRESSIVE THAT I WAS MIS-FUELING THE CAR WITH GASOLINE INSTEAD OF DIESEL, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED ONCE (I HAVE FULL RECEIPTS FOR ENTIRE VEHICLE OWNERSHIP). LATEST INCIDENT LEFT ME WITHOUT POWER OR EFFECTIVE STEERING ON I-5 BRIDGE BETWEEN OREGON AND WASHINGTON, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. DEALER AND VW WOULD NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, AND CLAIMED IF THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, I WAS ON MY OWN. I SUSPECT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD AN INTERNAL DEFECT, THAT DIDN'T LEAD TO COMPLETE FAILURE/DESTRUCTION, BUT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY THROW ERRORS CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL OR LOSE POWER. *TR
1. DRIVING NORMALLY ON HIGHWAY WHEN IT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST POWER SUDDENLY AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER. ALSO CAR STALLED SEVERAL TIMES ON ITS OWN WHILE IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (ITS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING). 2. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED IN FIRST 20K MILES OF THIS VEHICLE ITS AN 2010 VW TDI. FIRST TIME IT WAS AT 9800 MILE MARK SAME LIGHT AND PROBLEM CAME ON THEY REPLACED A EGR VALVE AND NOW AGAIN AT 19800MILES. 3. THEY HAVE REPLACED A PART AT 9800 MILES AND NOW REPLACING IT AGAIN AT 19800MILES. IT SEEMS TO BE A REPEAT PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE IT SLOW DOWN LIKE THAT WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO STALL OUT WHILE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2010 JETTA TDI SEDAN, PURCHASED IN JULY, 2010 IN FREDERICK, MD. THERE ARE NOW 10,000 MILES ON THE CAR. WITHIN WEEKS OF PURCHASE, I BEGAN NOTICING A HESITATION IN THE ENGINE AFTER CRESTING A HILL AND PROCEEDING DOWN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL WITH MY FOOT RELEASING SOMEWHAT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE HESITATION LASTS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. NEXT, AT APPROXIMATELY 1900 RPM THE ENGINE WILL OCCASIONALLY HESITATE AND EVEN BUCK. MOST IMPORTANTLY, ON THREE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE HAS CONTINUOUSLY HESITATED DURING MY 35-MILE COMMUTE. THE FEELING IS AKIN TO A GAS ENGINE RUNNING LEAN OR OUT OF TUNE. WHEN I ARRIVE HOME AND TURN OFF THE KEY ON THESE OCCASIONS, THERE IS AN ASTOUNDING AMOUNT OF HEAT SURROUNDING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, AND THE AUTOMATIC COOLING FAN KICKS ON AND RUNS FOR FIVE MINUTES OR MORE. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONTAINS METAL SHAVINGS AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF DESTROYING ITSELF. I AM AWARE VIA THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE TDI ENGINE AND THAT VW HAS TENDED TO BLAME THE PROBLEM ON CUSTOMERS ADDING GASOLINE TO THE FUEL TANK. I HAVE MOST DEFINITELY NOT USED GASOLINE AT ANY TIME. I WANTED TO ADD MY VOICE TO OTHERS, SO THAT VW CAN BE ENCOURAGED TO REMEDY THE SITUATION PROPERLY. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 VW JETTA TDI DIESEL SPORTSWAGEN THAT I PURCHASED NEW. THE CAR HAS 12,000 MILES SINCE NEW. THE CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER PER THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING, REQUIRING IMMEDIATE ACTION ON MY PART TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE CAR'S WARNING SYSTEM DISPLAYED CHECK ENGINE AND SERVICE REQUIRED ANNUNCIATION. AFTER THE POWER LOSS. THE SUDDEN COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER CONCERNS ME REGARDING THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE CAR, I'VE SINCE BEEN ONLINE AND READ THE ACCOUNTS OF DOZENS OF OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2009-10 TDI VW JETTA. ALL SEEM TO BE RELATED TO FUEL PUMP FAILURES. THE CAR WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW FOR SERVICE. BUT LOOKING AT THE OTHER ACCOUNTS OF THIS PROBLEM, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT HAVING COMPLETE SUCCESS IN RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

VW SAYS "CONTAMINATED DIESEL IN FILTER AREA" AND "NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY" THEY BELIEVE THEY CAN MAKE OUR AUTO INSURANCE PAY...SHOWING A LITTLE GUNK OR RUSTY SHEEN WITHIN FILTER CANISTER AREA. WILL KEEP CALLING VW WARRANTY...TRYING TO HAVE THE +$6,000 REPAIR COVERED. I BELIEVE THIS CAR SUFFERED FATAL HPFS FAILURE.. 20 FULL TANKS OF FUEL SINCE PURCHASED NEW - ALL FROM RACE-WAY OR MURPHYS(WALMART) ULSD NO FURTHER EVIDENCE OF CONTAMINATION IN TANK.....YET. CAR STILL AT VW. *TR
DSG TRANSMISSION IS SLOW TO ENGAGE 1ST GEAR WHEN STARTING FROM A FULL STOP. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM STOP SIGNS OR REDLIGHTS. THERE IS A 2 SECOND DELAY FROM STEPPING ON GAS PEDAL TO CAR MOVING. TRANSMISSION ALSO FEELS LIKE IT IS SEARCHING FOR CORRECT GEAR WHEN CRUISING RESULTING IN MOMENTARY LOSS OF MOMENTUM. THIS MODEL IS AFTER 2009S RECALL FOR SIMILAR ISSUES. PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO DEALER AND REPLY WAS THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS, BUT IT'S ENTERED IN VWS DATABASE SO THEY CAN TRACK IT. *TR
I HAVE 2010 VW JETTA TDI, 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH 30K MILES ON IT. AS I WAS TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO'IT ACTED LIKE IT DIED. I HAD A CAR RIGHT BEHIND ME AND ANOTHER ONE MERGING FROM THE RIGHT SO I HAD NO PLACE TO GO BUT FORWARD. I DOWNSHIFTED AND STILL NO POWER. EVENTUALLY, AND THANKFULLY WITHOUT A CRASH, IT GAINED MOMENTUM AND IT DIDN'T KILL. FOR THE NEXT 5 MILES OR SO, IT CONTINUED TO SPIT AND SPUTTER AND AS I WAS COASTING DOWN A HILL WITHOUT THE CAR BEING IN GEAR, I REVVED UP THE CAR TO LISTEN TO THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NOT GO BEYOND 2100 RPM. I MADE IT TO WORK AND HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS YESTERDAY. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER AND WILL BE DROPPING THE CAR OFF TODAY FOR DIAGNOSIS. THIS 'STALLING' HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST FOR ME, MAYBE 6 TIMES, BUT IT WAS NOT ABRUPT OR ALARMING SO I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME TRYING TO ACCELERATE IN A GEAR THAT WAS TOO HIGH FOR THE POWER I NEEDED. I HAVE USED NOTHING BUT THE RECOMMENDED DIESEL FUEL AND HAVE NEVER PUT REGULAR GASOLINE IN IT. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER OF THIS CAR. HOPEFULLY, I DON'T GET THE RUN AROUND BUT AM AFRAID OF WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE 6K MILES ON THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. WE WILL SEE WHAT THEY SAY TODAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A SECONDARY HIGHWAY GOING ONLY 30 MPH WHEN A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE ENGINE OFF, I PULLED OUT THE JETTA HANDBOOK TO RESEARCH THE MEANING OF THE WARNING LIGHT. THE LIGHT BLINKING WAS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT. AFTER THAT I CALLED THE VW 800 ROAD SIDE PROGRAM, A TOW TRUCK CAME AND TOWED THE JETTA TO THE DEALER. NOW THIS MORNING I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORM ME THE COST OF GETTING THIS NEW CAR FIXED WILL BE $6,800.00. WITH THAT INFORMATION I HAVE TO ASK WHY AND THE DEALERSHIP PROCEEDS TO SAY I HAVE "BAD FUEL". THE COMMENT BY THE DEALERSHIP TRIGGERED ALL TYPES OF RESPONSES. THE FIRST RESPONSE WAS PROOF I PUT THE RIGHT TYPE OF FUEL IN THE TANK WHICH I DID. NEXT I HAD TO GO AND GET A SAMPLE OF FUEL FROM THE FILLING STATION. AFTER THAT I DELIVERED A SAMPLE OF THE FUEL IN QUESTION TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR TESTING. AS IT TURNS OUT THE FUEL WAS OKAY. WHILE I AM RUNNING AROUND DOING ALL OF THIS MY WIFE FINDS OUT VIA THE INTERNET OF ISSUES THE JETTA IS HAVING WITH THE FUEL PUMP. KEEP IN MIND, AT NO POINT HAS THE DEALERSHIP GIVEN ME INFORMATION REGARDING A POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP ISSUE, WHICH WOULD BE A WARRANTY ISSUE, AKA NO COST TO ME! IT IS NOW 5:20 PM AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALERSHIP. NOW I HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE, IS THE DEALERSHIP TRYING TO DEFRAUD ME? AND IF SO THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMPS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. ..UPDATED 12-05-13 *BF
2010 VW TDI JETTA SPORTSWAGEN CURRENTLY HAS 18675 MILES, HOWEVER, PROBLEM STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 5000 MILES. ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT LOSES POWER AND STARTING TO STALL WHEN IN 3RD/4TH GEAR AND BETWEEN 30 TO 40 MPH. AT TIMES IT IS LIKE A SMALL HICCUP AT OTHER TIMES IT IS QUITE SEVERE AND CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH VIOLENTLY - HAS LOCKED THE SEAT BELT UP WHEN THIS OCCURS AS I AM THROWN FORWARD HARD. OCCASIONALLY SAME THING WILL HAPPEN IN HIGHER GEAR, BUT PRETTY MUCH EVERY DAY IN 3RD OR 4TH GEAR. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND COMPLAINED ABOUT PROBLEM EACH TIME. RESPONSE HAS BEEN THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE AND CAN FIND NO PROBLEM. ON LAST SERVICE THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER SAID IT "MIGHT" BE CLOGGED. NO IMPROVEMENT - PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING. BUY MY DIESEL FUEL FROM THE SAME STATIONS ALL THE TIME AND THE SAME STATIONS I PURCHASED DIESEL FUEL FOR MY 2004 GOLF TDI WITH 150,000 MILES ON IT AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT CAR. *TR
WHILE PARKING A JETTA 2010, THE CAR WAS ALMOST STOPPED THEN RAPIDLY ACCELERATED. BRAKE WAS ON, BUT THE CAR ACCELERATED EXTREMELY FAST, COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO A BRICK WALL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7500.
3/23/11 I OWN A 2010 VW JETTA TDI WITH 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT WAS PURCHASED 9/15/11. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS MY ENTIRE DRIVING LIFE. WHEN WE FIRST PURCHASED IT I KNEW THERE WOULD BE AN ADJUSTMENT AS THE GEAR BOX WAS MUCH TIGHTER THAN MY CRV. INITIALLY, I ATTRIBUTED THE OCCASIONAL STALLING TO MY LEARNING CURVE, AS DID MY HUSBAND WHEN HE DROVE IT. HOWEVER, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THERE WAS MORE TO THE STORY. IT SEEMS TO STALL OFTEN AND THE PROBLEM IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. IT IS NOT ATTRIBUTABLE TO OUR DRIVING HABITS. IT SUDDENLY STALLS - IT JUST STOPS, NO JERKING, NOTHING IT JUST TURNS OFF. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IN THE LOWER GEARS BUT IT HAS HAPPENED IN 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD AND IT SEEMS TO BE WHEN TURNING LEFT. IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN GOING SLOWLY UP AN INCLINE. AND AS I RECORD THE INCIDENTS IT IS OFTEN AROUND 35MPH. OTHERWISE IT IS RANDOM, UNPREDICTABLE AND INTERMITTENT. I CANNOT MAKEIT HAPPEN. IT, ALSO, HAS A MISS. AS I AM DRIVING IT WILL SKIP A BEAT, HESITATE AND THEN CONTINUE. IT HAS NEARLY SHUT OFF BUT THEN CONTINUED. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE MY HUSBAND IS DRIVING AS WELL. IT HAS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO, RANDOM, UNPREDICTABLE AND INTERMITTENT. I CANNOT MAKE THIS HAPPEN EITHER. I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE IT, NO SURPRISE, AND THERE WERE NO CODES. I KEPT A RECORD OF THE OCCURRENCES AND TOOK IT BACK. THE DEALERSHIP, AGAIN THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT AND WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES. PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE OR AFTER THE CAR STALED OUT. NOTHING IN THE CAR TURNED OFF OR ON, EXCEPT THE RADIO AFTER I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION. ALSO WHILE DRIVING DOOR LOCKS STARTED TO CLICK OPEN AND CLOSED AT 65 MPH. AFTER 10 MIN OF RANDOM CLICKING THE DOORS LOCKED AND STAYED LOCKED. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. THE LIGHT WENT BACK OFF AFTER 20 MIN OR SO. HAS NOT COME BACK ON. TRANSMISSION IS GENERALLY SMOOTH, HOWEVER AT RANDOM IT IS VERY ABRUPT, EVEN DURING GRADUAL OR STEADY ACCELERATION/DECELERATION. CAR HAS ONLY ONE DRIVER. HAS ONLY EVER HAD CORRECT FUEL. ON FRIDAY, SEPT 10, 2010, WHILE DRIVING SOUTH ON THE I 605 FREEWAY (LOS ANGELES COUNTY) AT APPROXIMATELY 12 NOON AT SPEEDS OF 60 TO 65 MPH THE ENGINE, WITHOUT WARNING, DIED, STOPPED. I MANAGED TO GET ONTO THE SHOULDER AND EVENTUALLY RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS FAILURE HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON THE FREEWAY. DROVE CAR TO NEAREST VW DEALER. DEALER FOUND METAL PARTICLES IN THE FUEL FILTER AND I HAD TO RENT A CAR TO GET BACK TO FL. THE REPAIR TOOK 2.5 WEEKS AND THE CAR WAS TRUCKED TO MY LOCAL VW DEALER. I WAS NEVER TOLD THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE SEEN IN SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN OCCUR MULTIPLE TIMES.HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP DISINTEGRATION IS SUSPECTED CAUSE. BESIDES THE SAFETY ISSUE OF SUDDEN LOSS OF THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT FUTURE FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY FUEL PUMPS (IF THAT IS THE CAUSE) AND THE $9,000 REPAIR COST. *TR
2010 JETTA TDI STALLS WHEN STARTING OUT. MOSTLY OCCURS IN 1ST GEAR AND SOMETIMES 2ND GEAR IF SLOWING DOWN (TO TAKE A TURN FOR EXAMPLE). IT SEEMS AS IF IT NEEDS TO BE GIVEN AN EXTRA SURGE OF FUEL BY DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL MORE THAN USUAL IN ORDER TO GET PAST THIS POINT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A MANUAL FOR 15 YEARS - 4 OF THEM JETTAS - AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS KIND OF 'PLAY' IN THE CLUTCH. THIS MAKES FOR AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN PULLING OUT ONTO A HIGHWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. EVEN KNOWING THE POTENTIAL FOR STALLING AND COMPENSATING, I STILL STALL AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A QUICK STOP THE CAR SOMETIMES EXPERIENCES A DELAYED RESPONSE. THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AT A CRAWL (AS IF I ONLY LET OFF THE BRAKE) EVEN THOUGH THE PEDAL IS PUSHED TO APPROXIMATELY 20% THEN WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE AS IF I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO 80% SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TIRES TO SLIP. THIS UNEXPECTED/UNDESIRED RESPONSE MAKES THE CAR APPEAR TO OTHER DRIVERS AS IF IT IS NOT PROCEEDING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHICH LEADS THEM TO START TO PROCEED AND THEN IT QUICKLY ACCELERATES. TO TRY AND PREVENT THIS I AM FORCED TO PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO 20% OR SO AND THEN QUICKLY REDUCE IT TO 5%. ADDITIONALLY WHEN SLIGHTLY LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR (LESS THAN A 5% CHANGE IN ACCELERATOR POSITION) WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AS IF IT WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL THEN WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THIS REDUCTION IN POWER LAST FOR LESS THAN A SECOND AND AS THE CAR IS WELL INTO ITS TOP GEAR AND IS NOT ASKED TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. *TR

REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCKS. SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2010 VW JETTA TDI AS A NEW VEHICLE, THE REMOTE CONTROL KEY HAS RANDOMLY NOT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS OR TRUNK. THE PROBLEM IS NOT DUE TO RFI. IT CAN ALWAYS BE IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BY USING THE MANUAL KEY TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE, WHICH SEEMS TO RESET THE LOCKING SYSTEM AND ALLOWS THE REMOTE KEY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS OR TRUNK REMOTELY. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER AT EVERY VISIT. THE DEALER HAS LOOKED INTO IT, BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, HAS REPROGRAMMED THE LOCKS. HOWEVER IT WAS NOT A CONSTANT FAILURE AND THE CAR COULD STOP RUNNING AT ANY TIME. OTHER DEFECT WAS THE WIPER MOTOR STOPPED OPERATING AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 MILES. MY 2010 VW TDI SPORTWAGON EATS UP THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES, VERY QUICKLY. I JUST PURCHASED MY FIFTH SET OF TIRES FOR A CAR WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED THREE TIMES, AND IT CONTINUALLY SHOWS TO BE WITHIN SPECS. THE FIRST TWO TIMES, I HAD A VW DEALERSHIP CHECK THE ALIGNMENT, AND BOTH TIMES THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I JUST HAD A PRIVATE MECHANIC CHECK THE ALIGNMENT, AND HE SAID I COULDN'T HAVE A MORE PERFECT ALIGNMENT, ACCORDING TO VW'S SPECS. THE LAST SET OF TIRES I PURCHASED WERE RATED FOR 55,000 MILES, BUT I ONLY GOT 15,000 OUT OF THEM BEFORE THE INSIDES WERE WORN DOWN INTO THE BELTS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THE REST OF THE TIRE LOOKS NEW, AND UNLESS YOU GET THE CAR UP ON A LIFT, OR LAY DOWN ON THE GROUND TO DELIBERATELY LOOK AT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES, YOU CANNOT SEE THE DAMAGE TAKING PLACE, AND PLACING THE OPERATOR IN A SITUATION WHERE A BLOW-OUT CAN OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING. PLUS, NOT TO MENTION THE EXTREMELY HIGH COST OF TIRE PURCHASES TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED . THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HIM TO RETURN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V333000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE RECALL SPECIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE MUST BE MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2008 AND AUGUST 2009. THE VEHICLE PRODUCTION YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL SAFETY DEFECT AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 380. I HAVE A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA AND I NOTICED EXCESSIVE BRAKE DUST FORMING ON THE REAR WHEELS AND OCCASIONAL SQUEAKING. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AT MY FIRST SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE OF 10,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. AT THE NEXT SERVICE INTERVAL,20,000 MILES I WAS TOLD I NEED NEW REAR BRAKES. I KNOW THAT GENERALLY, 65% OF THE BRAKING IS DONE WITH THE FRONT BRAKES, THUS USUALLY MAKING THE FRONT BRAKES NEEDING REPLACEMENT 2 TIMES BEFORE THE REARS. VOLKSWAGEN SEEMS TO THINK MY CLAIM IS UNJUSTIFIED, ALTHOUGH I HAVE FOUND MANY BLOGS ONLINE OF PEOPLE STATING THE SAME ISSUES. I BELIEVE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS TOO TIGHT OR THERE IS A FLAW FROM THE FACTORY. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THIS CREATES UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS, POSSIBLY FOR MANY UNAWARE CONSUMERS, THAT SHOULD BE MADE INTO A RECALL BEFORE MAJOR DAMAGE IS DONE. *TR
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE RESPONSE WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC ON 8 TO 10 OCCASIONS OVER THE 6 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. ON ONE OCCASION THE MOTOR COMPLETELY DIED BUT RESTARTED ON FIRST ATTEMPT AFTER WAITING FIVE MINUTES.
2010 VW JETTA 2.0 TDI CUP EDITION: ENTERING TRAFFIC IN FIRST GEAR, AT ABOUT 4000-4200 RPM, CAR HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. ENGINE DID NOT DIE. I PUSHED IN CLUTCH AND POWER RETURNED. THIS HAS OCCURRED MONTHLY WITH NO CONSISTENCY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JULY 2010. OCCURS WITH A WARM ENGINE. COLD ENGINE. VARIOUS LEVELS OF FUEL, AND VARIOUS CLIMATE CONDITIONS. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO O'BRIEN VOLKSWAGEN, A CERTIFIED REPAIR FACILITY, EVERY 3-6 MONTHS TO HAVE THE ISSUE RESOLVED. DEALERSHIP CAN NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND AS A RESULT HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN WITNESSED BY THREE DIFFERENT PASSENGERS. A SECONDARY STALLING ISSUE OCCURS BETWEEN 1200-1800 WITH LIGHT GAS PEDDLE PRESSURE. IN THIS CASE, THE CAR HAS A SMALL PAUSE OR DECREASE IN POWER. DOWN SHIFTING AND ACCELERATING ELIMINATES THE PROBLEM. *TR

DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH AND PREPARING TO STOP FOR STOPLIGHT, THE CAR STALLED AT SPEED; I ASSUMED THAT IT WAS DUE TO BEING UNACCUSTOMED TO THE GEARING. I HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES IN WHICH AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT DURING WORK, I PULLED OUT AND THE CAR STUMBLED, BUT DID NOT STALL. HOWEVER, I DID NEED TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, AFTER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES, I PULLED OUT SUCCESSFULLY AND FELT THE CAR LOSE POWER SUDDENLY, AS IF THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH GAS/AIR TO KEEP GOING. *TR
