WHEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT THE TRUCK SEEMS TO WANT TO CROSS OVER LANES JUST BY CROSSING A DIP. IT FEELS FLOATY ON THE ROAD ANOTHER WORDS IT DOESN'T WANT TO STAY IN ITS OWN LANE
DURING OPERATION OF VEHICLE, POWER BRAKING AND STEERING IS LOST. VEHICLE FAILS TO STOP OR STEER EASILY AND THEREFORE WILL NOT STOP IN SAFE DISTANCE. OCCURS USUALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS BUT INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE AND REQUIRES EXTREME STRENGTH TO TURN. MAY HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES DURING SHORT TRIP. VEHICLE HAS HYDRAULIC ASSIST (STEERING PUMP) BRAKE SYSTEM. DEFINITELY UNSAFE AND APPEARS CANADA HAS ALREADY ACTED ON.
EXTREME RUST ON UNDER CARRAGE OF VEHICLE. BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE FRAME RUSTED OUT AT REAR LEAF SPRINGS AND FRAME RAIL CROSS MEMBERS. REAR SHOCK HANGERS RUSTED OFF VEHICLE. FRAME RUSTED SO BAD THAT IT PROHIBITS TOUNG OF ANY TYPE OF TRAILER. TOYOTA HAD SAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAD TO DO A RECALL SO WHY HAS GM NOT HAD TO DO THE SAME THING. IT IS A VERY LARGE SAFETY ISSUE AFFECTING MANY VEHICLES ON THE HWY TODAY.
HYDROBOOST LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID AFFECTING STEERING AND BRAKING PERFORMANCE. DIPSTICK FOR MEASURING P/S FLUID LEVEL WAS DRY, AND FLUID STAINS ALL OVER THE FIREWALL AND MASTER CYLINDER RESULTING FROM THE P/S FLUID LEAKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED FOR UNRELATED BODY DAMAGES WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS BROKEN. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND FILTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V005000 (POWER TRAIN: DRIVE LINE: DRIVE SHAFT). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP WHEN A CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

ON APRIL 18, 2007 THE PITMAN ARM SNAPPED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 10 MPH, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VEER SLIGHTLY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. THE POLICE ARRIVED, BUT NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN A PITMAN ARM SNAP UNLESS IT WAS INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. ALSO, THEY STATED THAT THERE COULD BE A DEFECT IN THE PITMAN ARMS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO MAJOR ACCIDENT, STRUCTURE, OR BODY DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE, AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CONSULT THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY $400.00 TO HAVE THE PITMAN ARMS REPLACED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A BROKE SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED. MY VEHICLE BECAME STUCK IN THE SNOW. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET MOVING THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. BESIDES NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER THE PUMP ALSO ASSISTS THE BRAKES. WHILE DRIVING 2000, CHEVROLET, SILVERADO AND COMING OFF THE EXIT RAMP FROM THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE LOST POWER ASSIST STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS ALMOST HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND R VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A VEHICLE NEXT TO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING IT. WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK BACK HOME AND STARTED INSPECTING IT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. BEING A LICENSED TECHNICIAN I FOUND THAT POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. HAVING ACCESS TO REPAIR INFORMATION WAS ABLE TO FIND GMC RECALL 205010 CONCERNING THE FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP. WHEN CONTACTING TAYLOR CHEVROLET AND TALKING TO MIKE IN SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE, AND TO CONTACT GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEN I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THIS WAS THE EXACT SYMPTOM THAT THE RECALL STATED, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SOMEONE SHOULD FIND OUT HOW MANY MORE TRUCKS WERE DRIVING WITH FAULTY POWER STEERING PUMPS BEFORE SOMEONE GOT KILLED.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED BY THE CONTACT AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BREAKS WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE
I WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AND RECEIVED A COMPOUND FRACTURE TO MY RIGHT FEMUR BONE, 2 BLACK EYES AND FRACTURED RIBS DUE TO THE INACTIVATION OF THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULES, ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL BENT RESEMBLING AN AIRPLANE WHEEL. MY WIFE CHECKED THE INTERNET AFTER THE INCIDENT AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG MODULE ON THE YEAR OF MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, BUT ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING UPDATES TODAY. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS. THE TRUCK IS NOW IN A STORAGE YARD AND WE ARE AWAITING THE RESPONSE FROM THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR.
SILVERADO 1500 4WD STEERING GEAR BOX DEFECT IN THAT IT STARTS TO GRIND AND THREATENS FREEZE UP AND POWER STEERING LOSS USUALLY WHEN ATTEMPTING LEFT TURN. DEALER HAS ALREADY REPLACED 2 UNITS. THE ORIGINAL WAS REPLACED AT 81,000 MILES. THE SECOND AT 96,000 AND NOW IT'S BAD AGAIN AT 120,000 MILES. DEALER STATES THAT IT IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT WAS CORRECTED FOR THE 2008 MODELS. PICTURE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WITH FULL POWER STEERING BUT IF YOU TURN LEFT IT WILL GRIND AND WINE AT FIRST, GRADUATING TO TRYING TO MAKE THE LEFT TURN AS IF THE ENGINE HAD DIED OUT. THAT'S HOW BAD IT GETS. IT WILL, AND I'M SURE, IT ALREADY HAS CAUSED ACCIDENT PROBLEMS. QUESTION IS, WHY DID THE ORIGINAL STEERING BOX LAST MORE THAN 80,000 MILES BUT THE REPLACEMENTS BARELY MAKE 15,000 MILES?? MIND YOU THESE ARE OEM REPLACEMENTS DONE BY THE DEALER. FURTHERMORE, THE REPLACEMENTS AR ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 1 YEAR OR 12,000 MILES. HOW CONVENIENT HUH? THIS ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND NEEDS TOTAL RECALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT I HAD BEEN ALL DAY AT WORK AND THE PASSANGER FRONT WHEEL WOULD NOT STRAIGHTEN OUT. I COULD NOT PULL FORWARD OR BACKWARD, I WAS STUCK IN THE CENTER OF THE PARKING LOT. THEN HAVE IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE TIE ROD HAD STRIPPED AND COME OFF. THE REPAIR PERSON TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVER FRONT ALSO WAS STRIPPED AND WOULD HAVE SOON FAILED AS WELL. THEY WERE BOTH REPLACED AND THE TRUCK WAS ALIGNED. THIS WAS AN UNEXPECTED EXPENSE, THERE WAS NO INDICATION BY MYSELF OR MY HUSBAND THAT ANYTHING WAS LOOSE OR COMING APART. I WAS ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE TO GO HOME. AS I UNDERSTAND IT I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY TRUCK HAD THE TIE ROD FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING.
