I JUST HAD TRANSMISSION WORK DONE ON MY TRUCK WHEN IT BURNED THE GEARS UP. MY BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS EITHER WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THEY STOPPED OR LOCKED UP. RIGHT NOW ITS BROKE DOWN DUE TO TOO MANY PROBLEMS FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO FIX BUT HAS ONLY BEEN NOT DRIVEABLE SINCE JULY 2017
WENT TO GET VEHICLE INSPECTED WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT AND IS UNINSPECTABLE AND THAT I NEED TO JUNK THE TRUCK THE BODY IS GREAT HAS 150000 MILES BUT THE CROSS BRACES ARE RUSTED OUT AND ITS CRACKED OVER THE REAR AXEL WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS OYHERS ARE HAVING AND WITH TOYOTA HAVING RECALL ON FRAME RUSTING OUT GM SHOULD BE DOING THE SAME THEY SAY THAT THE NHTSA IS THE ONE TO TELL THEM TO DO A RECALL AND UNTILL THEY ARE TOLD TO THERE IS NOTHING THAY CAN DO
TOOK VEHICAL TO GET INSPECTED SHOP SAID VEHICAL IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND REFUSED TO INSPECT UNDER FUTHER INSEPTION THERE IS EXSESIVE RUST ON FRAME THAT IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR GM NEEDS TO STEP UP LIKE TOYOTA DID AND REPLACE THESE FRAMES PLS LOOK IN TO THIS . THIS WAS MY ONLY VEHICAL AND NOW I DONT HAVE ONE TO DRIVE AND CANT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW ONE
TYPICAL GM PRODUCT, REAR BUMPER RUST OUT, BRAKE LIKES RUSTED COMPLETELY OUT, REAR CROSS MEMBERS, FUEL TANK CROSS MEMBER HAS RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY ON PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE SHOCK MOUNTS TO AND THE SAME FOR THE REAR CROMMM MEMBER WHERE THE SHOCK MOUNTS TO ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I MEAN THE FUEL TAN CROSS MEMBER HOLDS THE TANK IN PLACE AND IF THAT TANK DROPPS THEN I'D ASSUME THAT IT WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. ATLEAST I HOPE SO.
I WAS CHANGING THE SHOCKS ON THE REAR AND NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WHERE THE TOP SHOCK MOUNT IS IS ALMOST RUSTED OFF. WILL CHEVY PAY TO REPAIR THE FRAME DAMAGE BECAUSE ITS A SAFETY HAZARD. WHY IS IT THAT CHEVY FRAMES RUST SOOO BAD? WHY DON'T THEY COAT THE FRAMES WITH SOMETHING TO THEY DON'T RUST SOOO BAD. FORD FRAMES DON'T RUST THIS BAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THERE WAS A LOAD SNAPPING SOUND HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS THE CONTACT TRAVELED OVER A LARGE CRACK IN THE GROUND. THE CONTACT OPENED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHERE HE OBSERVED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING CAME THROUGH THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WHO WAS A LICENSED MECHANIC REPLACED THE SHACKLE ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,294. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO C1500 (N/A). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 65-70 MPH WHEN AN ABNORMAL BUMP SOUND WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE THEN DROPPED TO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROADWAY AND ONTO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE CONTACT VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE BEARING WAS FRACTURED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE AND THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET I HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. WHEN I GOT HOME AND LOOKED AROUND I FOUND OUT MY DRIVER SIDE LEAF SPRING SHACKLE SNAPPED IN HALF AND THE LEAF SPRING SHOT UP AND TORE A HOLE IN MY TRUCK BED. LUCKILY THE TRUCK WAS UNLOADED AT THE TIME. THE SHACKLE RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED. *TR
DURING A SCHEDULED MAINT./REPAIR VISIT AT A MAJOR CHEVY DEALERSHIP, THEY ADVISED THE SHOCK ABSORBERS COULDN'T BE REPLACED; THE UPPER MOUNTS FOR BOTH REAR SHOCKS WERE GONE. THE DEALER SUGGESTED I TAKE THE TRUCK TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP FOR THE NEEDED RESTORATION WORK, THEN RETURN. I LATER INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY TRUCK AND FOUND EXTENSIVE ROT AND RUST ON MAJOR FRAME STRUCTURES. BOTH UPPER SHOCK MOUNTS APPEAR TO HAVE ROTTED AWAY. BOTH FRAME SPREADER TUBES, TO WHICH THE UPPER SHOCK MOUNTS AND THE REAR FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAP ARE ATTACHED, HAVE LOST MOST OF THEIR STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. I ALSO NOTED MOST MAIN FASTENER BOLTS APPEAR TO HAVE LOST THEIR STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY,DUE TO ROT AND RUST. IN DECEMBER OF 2009, I REPLACED THE FUEL STRAPS. ONE BRAKE LINE FAILED (ROTTED OPEN), CAUSING BRAKE LOSS, AS I WAS DEPARTING THE SERVICE VISIT. ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD DETERIORATED TO THE POINT THAT REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. IN JULY OF 2011, I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR ROTTED OUT BUMPER. I AM NOW SEEING ROT AND RUST BREAKING THROUGH THE FRONT BUMPER OF MY TRUCK. IN LIGHT OF THE MAJOR RUST AND STRUCTURAL FAILURES I HAVE EXPERIENCED RECENTLY, I STARTED RESEARCHING NHTSA'S DATA BASE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES WITH THEIR SILVERADO, OR IF THIS WAS AN ANOMALY. I WAS QUITE STARTLED TO FIND NUMEROUS REPORTS BEING CITED FOR IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AND FAILURES FOR THIS VEHICLE. TWO ISSUES CONCERN ME: FIRST, MAJOR RUST & ROT HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THIS MODEL AND LATER ONES FOR OVER A PERIOD OF 10-13 YEARS. SECOND, DO, OR SHOULD SERVICE SHOPS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO ADVISE WHEN SIGNS OF MAJOR DETERIORATION OCCUR, SO WE CAN MAKE REPAIR/INVESTMENT CHOICES? I'VE OWNED SEVERAL TRUCKS, KEEP THEM FOR 8-10 YEARS, THEN REPLACE THEM. I'VE SEEN SURFACE RUST OVER THE YEARS, BUT NOT THIS KIND OF FRAME/UNDERCARRIAGE DETERIORATION OVER A RELATIVELY SHORT TRUCK LIFE. *TR
WAS DRIVING MY 2000 1500 AND HAD BRAKE FAILURE. UPON INSPECTION NOT ONLY DID I FIND EXTENSIVE RUST ON LINES BUT MY REAR SHACKLES ARE ROTTING THROUGH AND SOME PLACES ON THE FRAME. STARTED TO THINK THERE NO WAY THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO THIS TRUCK. ONLY 140000 MILES THIS HAS GOT TO BE A CASE OF POOR QUALITY. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CHECKED ON BUT IT IS AN EXPENSIVE FIX. I DID SLIDE OFF THE ROAD BUT I CAME TO A SAFE STOP IN A FIELD LUCKILY MY E-BRAKE WORKED AND NOBODY ELSE WAS AROUND. COULD YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND TAKE CARE OF IT. CHEVROLET SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT BUT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US, THEY JUST WANT THEIR MONEY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO THE GUARD RAIL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE ALL MY BRAKE COMPONENTS SUCH AS, ROTORS, CALIPERS, BRAKE LINES, BACKING PLATES, ALSO THE REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND WELDED IN ALL DUE TO METAL CORROSION OR RUST. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW FAST THIS TRUCK HAS ROTTED THROUGH, I HAVE A 1984 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO CHANGE OR REPLACE ANY OF THESE PARTS BECAUSE OF RUST. I HAVE READ THAT GM HAD USED CHEAPER METAL FROM CHINA ON THEIR MODEL TRUCKS FROM 1999-2004 AND DIDN'T STOP USING THEM UNTIL ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS STARTED TO SURFACE. FAILURE OF FRONT WHEEL HUBS ON 2000 SILVERADO 2500. REPLACED BOTH SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE OF TRUCK ABOUT 14 MONTHS AGO. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR BOTH ARE WORN OUT AGAIN. ONE HAS EXTREME PLAY. COMPLETELY STOCK TRUCK. ON ROAD USE ONLY. ABOUT 5000 EASY MILES ON THE HUBS. SEEMS THAT ONE IS CLOSE TO FALLING APART. THE OTHER IS ON THE WAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR SHOCK SUPPORT BEAM FRACTURED, AND THE CONTACT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN LOCATING THE PART FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRAME AND FRONT SUSPENSION LINE AND FITTINGS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR HIS VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
DT: THE CONTACTRECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING ABS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND HAD THE WORK PERFORMED. THE ABS IWAS STILL ACTIVATING, THEREFORE, THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN CORRECTED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT DRIVING SLOW. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS GREATER. THE GREATER STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED THE CHANCE OF HITTING SOMETHING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT, DRIVER SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY. *NM
