The Frame has excessive rust especially the crossmembers that are in-between the two main lateral frame beams. In this vehicle they have rotted all the way through and there is nothing left of them and they look like swiss cheese. This particular vehicle also has only 130,000 miles on it which I personally feel is very excessive for them milage. I do understand it is a little older at this point but I have a dodge van and a Chevy sedan both having over 200,000 miles on them. Both also have been driven in West Virginia all winter long with salt exposure that do not show this amount of rust in the frame components. I feel this is a flaw in the manufacturing I have been looking online and it seems to beyond a common problem with this make and model of vehicle.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTED. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE AND STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAPE COD CARZ (153 CORPORATION ST, HYANNIS, MA 02601, (508) 778-2279) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE WELDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
FRAME AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS EXCESSIVE RUSTING TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. LEAF SPRING SHACKLE FAILED LAST YEAR, CAUSING LEAF SPRING TO PUT A HOLE IN TRUCK BED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKES LINES RUSTED TO FAILURE LAST WEEK AND CAUSED NEAR BRAKE LOSS WHILE OPERATING. HAD TO USE E-BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING MY GARAGE. CROSS MEMBERS SUPPORTING SHOCK FAILED. GAS TANK ABOUT TO FALL OFF DUE TO RUST FAILURE. CANNOT DRIVE TRUCK. BRAKES NO LONGER FUNCTION AND TRUCK IS UNSAFE DUE TO FRAME BEING COMPROMISED.
THERE IS EXTREME FRAME RUST CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE MOUNT TO BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FRAME WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED ON A SECONDARY ROAD IN SOUTH WEST VIRGINIA. THE SHOCK ABSORBER WAS THE ONLY THING THAT HELD THE SPARE TIRE MOUNT FROM COMING COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM THE TRUCK. AFTER INSPECTING THE FRAME, THERE IS EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE MAIN FRAME AND ONE OF THE CROSS MEMBERS IS NEARLY RUSTED THROUGH. THIS TRUCK IS NINE YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 63K MILES. I HAVE THE TRUCK AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO SEE IF IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE I AM AWAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM TO SEE IF GM IS GOING TO HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MANUFACTURER USED AN INFERIOR STEEL MATERIAL TO MAKE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT AN INFERIOR MATERIAL WAS USED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY HELP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE SPARE TIRE STRUCTURE DISINTEGRATED DUE TO RUST. THE SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING AND WAS EASILY PULLED OUT BY HAND. THE STRUCTURE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE IN PLACE IS BLOCKED BY THE SPARE TIRE AND DOES NOT GET WASHED, CREATING AN AREA WHERE THE DIRT AND SALT ACCUMULATE. THIS EASILY COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT SOFT AND THEN TO THE FLOOR. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING AND A BRAKE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I GOT THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. IT WAS EMPTY. IT HAD BEEN SNOWING THAT DAY AND I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID HAD FORMED IN THE FRESH SNOW UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, JUST INBOARD AND AFT OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. WHEN I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND LOOKED I FOUND WHAT APPEARS TO BE SEVERELY ROTTED BRAKE LINES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SOLID BRAKE LINE FAIL ON ME BEFORE AND WAS QUITE SHOCKED AT HOW PROGRESSED THE CORROSION WAS. I TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK AND IT GETS WASHED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. WITH THAT IT GETS USED AS A TRUCK AS WELL. I FEEL THAT THE CORROSION WAS EXCESSIVE AND PERHAPS IS THE RESULT OF A MATERIAL FLAW/CHEAP MATERIALS USED. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD I BEEN TOWING MY HORSE TRAILER OR MY CAMPER THAT DAY. *TR

GENERAL MOTORS PICKUP HOOD MOUNTED LATCH FATIGUE. I HAVE NOTICED COMPLETE SEPARATION AND SEVERE WEAR IN THE WELDED ENGINE COMPARTMENT HOOD LATCH THAT COULD RESULT IN THE HOOD COMING UP AT HIGH SPEED AND EITHER BLINDING THE DRIVER OR THE HOOD SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE UPON FAILURE OF THE HOOD LATCH. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE GM MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE NOT PLACED A SNOW PLOW ON A DIESEL VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE BECAUSE HE IS UNABLE TO STEER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
STEERING COLUMN FELT LOOSE - DEALERSHIP GREASED IT - IT APPEARS THIS WILL BE AN EVERY 10,000 MILES EXPENSE. DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ADMIT THE BEAM SHAKE EXISTS THAT I HAVE JUST LOOKED UP AND SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS CAUSES THE MIRRORS TO BE UNUSABLE. POWER STEERING PUMP IS MAKING NOISES WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO ONE DIRECTION. LIFTERS ARE CLATTERING ALL THE TIME WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE REVERSING AT 2 MPH, THE REAR BUMPER STRUCK A TREE AND COLLAPSED WITHOUT WARNING. MODERATE VEHICLE DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED. THE POLICE WERE NOT ALERTED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MADE A RATTLING NOISE AND SHOOK WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON BUMPY ROAD CONDITIONS. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SEAT MADE A SQUEAKING NOISE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
I BOUGHT A 2006 SILVERADO EXT CAB LT3 AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 2006. IN MARCH HEADLINER CAME DOWN. REPLACED TWO WEEKS LATER. SIX WEEKS LATER HEADLINER CAME DOWN AGAIN THE SECOND TIME. REPLACED HEADLINER ONE WEEK LATER. TWO DAYS AFTER REPLACING HEADLINER, IT CAME DOWN THE THIRD TIME. I CONTACTED AREA REP TO HAVE HIM RESEARCH THE HEADLINER ISSUE (WHICH I ALREADY WENT TO TWO OTHER DEALERSHIPS AND THEY ARE SELLING THESE TRUCKS WITH THE DEFECTED HEADLINERS AND KNOWINGLY SELLING THEM). I WAITED A FULL MONTH THEN WENT FOR ANOTHER REPLACEMENT WHICH TOOK TWO WEEKS TO COME IN. ONE WEEK LATER HEADLINER COMING DOWN AGAIN THE 4TH TIME. AREA REP SAID HE PUT IN A TSB TO SHOW IT IS A DEFECT THAT THE HEADLINERS ARE CUT TOO SHORT. I CHECKED ON NHTSA AND NO TSB'S ARE LISTED ABOUT A SILVERADO HEADLINER. PEOPLE HAVEN'T NOTICED THIS BECAUSE IT ISN'T OBVIOUS. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE TOP OF YOUR OPEN DOORS WHERE THE HEADLINER MEETS THE RUBBER GASKET AND YOU WILL SEE THE CUT OF THE FABRIC OF THE HEADLINE AND THE MOLDED HEADLINER PIECE WITH IT. I'VE CALLED AREA REP AND IT'S BEEN 3 DAYS AND NO RETURN CALL. I WAS TOLD IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACTORY SUNROOF EITHER. IF THE FACTORY KNOWS THE HEADLINER'S ARE DEFECTIVE WHY DO THEY KEEP SENDING THE ONES THAT ARE DEFECTIVE INSTEAD OF WAITING TILL THE RIGHT ONES COME OUT? *JB
DT:THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 TO 75 MPH THE REAR WINDOW WAS DOWN AND THERE WAS A ROARING NOISE. THIS NOISE WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO HURT THE CONSUMER EARS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED ,AND THEY STATED THIS WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND THE REAR WINDOW WAS DOWN.*AK THERE WAS ALSO A VIBRATION INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 01/04/06. *JB
ON AUGUST 13TH, 2008 I WENT TO DARRYL BURKE CHEVY TO CONSIDER BUYING A NEW TRUCK AND TRADING MY 2006. DURING THE TRADE IN APPRAISAL, THE SALES MANAGER ASK IF THE VEHICLE HAD EVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT? I INFORMED THAT NO IT HAD NOT. HE SAID THE TIRE, SAFETY, AND PARTS LABEL VIN DID NOT MATCH THE VIN IN THE WINDSHIELD. I LOOKED AND WITNESSED THE SAME INFORMATION. THE SALES MANAGER SAID THAT THIS WOULD DRASTICALLY EFFECT THE TRADE IN VALUE OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT APPEARS THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN USED. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THIS MUST HAVE OCCURRED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS BECAUSE THERE ARE 2 OTHER VEHICLES WHICH WERE SHIPPED TO OTHER STATES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY HAVE THE LABELS ON THEM THAT SHOULD BE ON MY VEHICLE. THE NATIONAL INSURANCE CRIME BUREAU HAS EXAMINED THE OTHER VEHICLES AND DETERMINED THAT THE MANUFACTURER CAUSED THIS MISHAP. I NEED TO KNOW IF NHTSA CAN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY MOST ANY DEALER IS GOING TO RECOGNIZE THE DISCREPANCY AND MAY RESULT IN A DEPRECIATION IN THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE.
