The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving at a low rate of speed, the contact heard an abnormal, thud-like noise emitted from the vehicle. The contact pulled into an independent tire shop and inspected the tires. The contact found no defect with the tires and chose to proceed with driving the vehicle. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the front passenger-side tire detached from the vehicle without warning. Due to the failure, the vehicle crashed into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact sought medical attention for pain in her back. The contact was diagnosed with a sprain to the right side of her neck and right side of her back. The vehicle was then towed to a different independent mechanic, where they determined that the wheel assembly hub had detached from the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 07E106000(Wheels) and linked the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was informed about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired but remained in the possession of the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was unknown.
265/75R16 9100 miles driven mostly on pavement with loads well within the vehicle capacity and never off road. Tires were rotated several months prior, about 100 miles ago and damage was not noted. Bubble appeared on sidewall which was noticed while parked; Tire shop dismounted the tire to inspect for possible causes and found nothing to explain damage (run flat, left deflated, road hazard damage). Secondary bubble slightly smaller on inside at same location. Smaller bubbles were felt inside tire and a longer, slight bubble follows the bead 1/3-1/2 of the diameter of the tire. Shop manager refused to remount tire due to risk to employees of catastrophic failure, indicating the tire poses significant safety risk if vehicle had been at highway speed and completed its deterioration. Mate to this tire on right rear shows same smaller bubble above the bead about 1/3 of tire diameter.
DURING A TRIP WITH 6 MONTH OLD TIRES, TWO OUT OF 6 TIRES FAILED. ONE WAS A DEEMED A ROAD HAZARD BY THE MANUFACTURER. GIVEN THESE TIRES WERE PURCHASED AND INSTALLED ON A TOW VEHICLE WITH RATINGS FOR THE VEHICLE AND FAILED ON A 75 DEGREE DAY WITH A LIGHT MIST. I WOULD SUSPECT THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT CAPABLE OF MEETING THE RATED SPECS. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED JANUARY FROM TREADWRIGHT CORP.

MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING A REMOTE AREA OF COLORADO WHEN WE HAD A TIRE GO FLAT. OK, I'LL JUST GET THE SPARE TIRE AND REPLACE IT. EASY RIGHT? NO! THIS CHEVROLET SPARE TIRE SECONDARY RELEASE WOULD NOT RELEASE NO MATTER WHAT I DID. I WORKED ON IT FOR HOURS AND SEVERAL OTHER DRIVERS STOPPED TO HELP. THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE COULD EVER RELEASE THIS TIRE. MY WIFE IS A TYPE 1 DIABETIC AND HERE WE ARE STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE FOR 6 HOURS AND SHE HAS NO FOOD. THIS COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY. MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKE SYSTEM WAS COMPROMISED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP SAFELY, BUT BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AS THEY SHOULD. MOREOVER, THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE WHEEL BEARING WAS FAILING, AND I AM QUITE AWARE OF WHAT THIS SOUNDS LIKE BECAUSE THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH TIME I HAVE REPLACED THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY ON THE LEFT SIDE. I HAVE REPLACED THE RIGHT HUB ASSEMBLY TWICE. IN ALL PREVIOUS TIMES, I HEARD A SLIGHT WHIRLING NOISE OR AT WORSE SLIGHT GRINDING, WHICH WOULD LEAD ME TO INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT BEFORE FAILURE. UNIROYAL LAREDO HD/H LT265/75 R15 HAD A TREAD SEPARATION THAT CAUSED CONSIDERABLE SHEET METAL DAMAGE WITHIN AND BEHIND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL OF MY CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD PICKUP. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 60 MPH WHILE I WAS TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER. I NEVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO BRING IT SAFELY TO A CONTROLLED STOP. THE TIRE WAS ONE OF FOUR INSTALLED NEW BY THE AUTO DEALER IN EARLY 2012 WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED. THE TIRE HAD APPROXIMATELY 17,000 MILES OF USE WHEN THE SEPARATION OCCURRED. I ALWAYS KEPT THE TIRE INFLATED TO THE TRUCK AND TIRE MANUFACTURERS' RECOMMENDED 80 PSI AND HAD JUST INFLATED THE TIRE TO THAT PRESSURE (IT WAS AT 74 PSI BEFORE I TOPPED IT OFF) THREE DAYS EARLIER, BEFORE STARTING MY TRIP. I NOTICED A RECALL OF TIRES OF SIMILAR VINTAGE IN THE UNIROYAL LAREDO HD/H LT 245/75 R16 SERIES, AND I AM CURIOUS IF MANY TREAD SEPARATIONS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED FOR THE 265/75 R16 SERIES OR IF THIS IS A ONE OFF INCIDENT. *TR

THE TIRES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ROTATED AND CORRECT PRESSURE WAS MAINTAINED. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE AND POSSIBLY DEADLY TIRE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *JS

I PURCHASED (4) NITTO TERRA GRAPPLER AT 265/70/17 TIRES ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. EVER SINCE I'VE HAD THEM I'VE BEEN HAVING A SLIDING PROBLEM. WHEN I ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE TIRES START SLIDING ON DRY AND DIRT FREE PAVEMENT AND ACTIVATES MY ABS. MY ABS SENSORS ARE NOT DIRTY.
