TAKATA AIRBAG DEFECT... DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH LOCKS KEY IN IGNITION
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND MAKING TURN VEG STEERING MAKES LOUD SOUND AND STEERING WHEEL MAKES VIBRATING SOUND AND LOCKS TEMPORARILY. A CODE TURNED ON THAT READS STABILIZER TRACKABILITY IT STAYED ON FROM THAT TIME UNTIL NOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR RACK SHOWED A FLUID LEAK. IF THE LEAK PERSISTED, THE POWER STEERING GEARS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEAK WAS NON-REPAIRABLE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED TSB NUMBER: 070232002. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER FAILED TO FOLLOW THE CORRECTIVE ACTION STATED IN THE TSB AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
THE ENGINE DIED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH. POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE LOST MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I MANAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY AND HAD IT TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE DIE OUT WAS FOUND TO BE AN INTERNAL FAULT IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE.
PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT I STARTED TO ACCELERATE, TO GET INTO TRAFFIC I HEARD A HORN AND LOOKED OVER, ONLY TO RUN STRAIGHT INTO A LIGHT POLE. IT WAS A PRETTY STRONG IMPACT. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND MY FACE AND HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I SUDDENLY LOST BOTH POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY, BUT WITH CONSIDERABLE EFFORT. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED, CAUSING THE POWER BRAKES TO FAIL, ALSO. THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT BROKE. I USE THE TRUCK MOSTLY TO TOW A HORSE TRAILER. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MY WAY TO A CAMP SITE ON A CURVING TWO LANE ROAD. I RESEARCHED THE FAILURE ON LINE AND DISCOVERED IT IS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE, AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO SEVERAL MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET TRUCKS. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE I PURCHASED NEW. IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED OR MISUSED. *TR
DRIVING AROUND CURVE ON RESIDENTIAL STREET IN MY 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO I CAME UPON AN ILLEGALLY PARKED CAR. I ATTEMPTED TO STEER AWAY FROM CAR WHEN STEERING LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT AVOID HITTING CAR THEN CURB THEN GARAGE. STEERING MADE A STRANGE CLICKING NOISE DURING MY ATTEMPT TO AVOID THE CAR. I HAD THE POWER STEERING PUMP REPAIRED IN FEBRUARY 2010 AT DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED OUR TRUCK FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THEY FOUND THE PUMP TO BE DEFECTIVE AND EFFECTED A REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND PROCEEDING TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL UNEXPECTEDLY MOVED BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LATER RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A MODERATE WRIST INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP. ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THE STEERING PUMP REPAIR, THE STEERING GEARS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY WHICH HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 1,522 MILES, A POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK WAS DISCOVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING WAS INSPECTED TO DIAGNOSE THE ORIGIN OF THE LEAK. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FLUID LEAK PRESENT AND A NOTATION WOULD BE MADE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED PER TSB: SB-07-02-32-002N IF THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. AT 30,000 MILES, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. DUE TO THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK, THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO HONOR THE REPAIR PER THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
