NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel pump module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The fuel pump module was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. After retrieving the vehicle, the message "Key Not Detected" was displayed, and the vehicle was taken back to the local dealer. The dealer performed a diagnostic test and determined that there were 14 separate electrical failures with the TCM, ECM, and BCM. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 37,000.
Was in stop and go traffic. Car suddenly said “conditions not correct for shift” and engine died. The car would not turn on and it could not be put into neutral therefore was stuck in the lane stopping all traffic on the NJ turnpike. It created a safety issue for that reason as there was no way to move the car to a safe place until a tow truck came and had to drag it onto the bed. I have since had it repaired at a local shop not Chevrolet dealer and was told it was fuel pump failure. There was no warning or any other symptoms in facet I had just had an oil change a week prior. Had there not been stop and go traffic and I was going the speed limit (60mph), there could have been a major accident and injuries.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH and accelerating to merge onto a highway, the check engine warning light started flashing. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from underneath the floorboard and coming from the engine compartment. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that lifter #6 had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that it was a known failure, and the contact was offered monetary assistance. The contact was also referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
I was driving down I-635 (Dallas) at 70mph on Friday 7/25 when my Tahoe started shaking, knocking and had complete engine failure. I managed to regain control and slow to the service road. Thankfully the car next to me was paying attention & swerved to avoid me, but honked at me the entire time. The vehicle was towed and we are being told we need to replace the engine for $14,500. As I’ve researched, the 6.2L is recalled for this exact issue. The 5.3L has no current recall but I’m clearly experiencing the same engine failure and being told I’m responsible for it. I had no prior warnings & have regularly maintained this vehicle. Any chance others have complained about the 5.3L as well & our Tahoe’s should be included in this recall?
Fuel Mod failed. Exactly like recall order. My unit not on recall list.
Engine starting banging loudly and misfiring. There was a loss of power and engine codes. Brought to the dealer and they said cylinder #4 was misfiring due to a stuck lifter, bent push rod and destoyed cam. Total cost of repair was $9200. Vehicle is less than 4 years old an has 75,000 miles on it.
The fuel pump power control module went-out, and my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe would not start. The fuel pump power control module part number is 13554821. That part is not subject to any existing recall. However, part number 13544060, fuel pump control module, for 2021 Chevrolet Tahoes is subject to recall N2123320240. The parts appear to be almost identical when you compare diagrams. locations, and pictures on-line. I would like to request that part number 13554821, fuel pump power control module, be added to the recall. Thank you,
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power and shut off unexpectedly. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle to continue driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated during the failure. The vehicle made an abnormal ticking sound while idling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 24,971.
my fuel pump failed while driving on the highway with my whole family. i lost all power and my gas pedal lost all compression. I was barely able to pull off the road safely. no indicators flashed on my dash, no warning just a total loss of power and control. after pulling over, i let the truck sit for a second then tried to restart. it wouldn't. at that point, the yellow check engine indicator turned on. I logged into MyChevrolet and Onstar to see if any notifications were available to help diagnose, but nothing stood out. all systems appeared to be perfect at last check. I check temp and it was normal, oil level, normal. battery level, normal. Key battery, normal. i then started to google why my 2021 tahoe would die while driving and came across and widely known recall for 2021 GMC Full Size SUVs including Tahoes with faulty fuel pumps. my issue matched exactly to the description of what would occur. I did a quick search to see if i missed a recall notice for my truck, and didn't see anything. I was able to get my truck home and then to a dealership for a diagnostic. the only code that was discovered was for the fuel pump/fuel pump module. The dealership is now stating my vehicle doesn't qualify for a recall repair because my VIN doesn't appear on the affected vehicles list and that repairs will total $859.68 out of pocket. however, they also stated that early builds for this year may not have enough evidence. i ordered my truck, built to spec 6 months prior to receiving it. i would like my VIN added to the recall list. I have kept immaculate care of this truck and this is a known safety issue. this is my family moving rig. I don't want it to be unsafe.
I have had the break pads and rotors replaced and in the shot over 6 times with them still not fully functioning correctly. I finally gave up on them and still expected to pay again. I don’t feel like this car is safe and have had nothing but issues
Lifter failure and camshaft failure. Found metal in engine oil that has caused bearing failure and engine damage. While driving the Tahoe on [XXX] I experience a jolt on the front right side. Then warning messages regarding the Traction Control and to Service the ESC appeared. As I cleared those messages my engine light was blinking and several other dash lights were lit up. There was a knocking sound. I contacted the dealership (Coyle Chevrolet in Clarksville, IN) and they sent a tow truck to bring it in. They assumed it would be in the recall but it is not. I am without a vehicle and the engine is backordered. It's not right that GM is picking which engines they are going to include in the recall when they know there is a manufacturing issue. On 01/03/24, the vehicle stalled and smoked on the Suncoast Parkway. All dashboard warning lights and messages illuminated, and the vehicle entered emergency park mode. OnStar was contacted and the vehicle was towed to Jenkins Chevrolet in Homosassa, FL. The failure was linked to a broken pulley and belt system that damaged the ECM and wiring harness. No DTCs were pulled, and mileage in/out was 80042/80043—no test drive performed. On 08/06/24, the vehicle returned to Jenkins for a roaring noise. A pulley bearing was replaced, possibly related to the earlier failure. Again, no drivability evaluation or codes recorded. On 03/09/25, the same full system warning lights/messages appeared again. The vehicle experienced harsh shifting and delayed acceleration. It was taken to AutoNation Chevrolet South Clearwater on 03/10/25. DTCs (P0700, P0717, P2714, P2716, P0706, and U-codes) were found but dismissed. Only the battery was replaced. Mileage in/out was 99494—no test drive performed despite claims one occurred. On 07/08/25, the vehicle again showed full dashboard warnings. Brought back to AutoNation on 07/09/25. On 07/14/25, customer received a $9,177.85 estimate including full transmission replacement. Safety was at risk due to repeated stalling, loss of acceleration, and emergency parking mode while driving or merging. These failures could have led to accidents or left the vehicle disabled in traffic. Driver and children were present during each incident. The vehicle is enrolled in OnStar and the MyChevy app, which provide monthly health reports. Despite these incidents, no faults or warnings were ever shown in the reports. Vehicle remains available for inspection. A case is open with GM. Across 4 service visits, GM-certified dealerships failed to follow proper protocols, including code checks, drivability assessments, and test drives—contributing to delayed diagnosis of transmission failure.
The head rest in the third row seat is broken and will not remain in the up position when the seat is up. This is causing a safety risk in that there is no safety for passengers in a rear end collision. There is already a recall that Chevrolet has issued for other Tahoe vehicles; however, my VIN number has not been added to that recall. I am requesting to have my vehicle's VIN number added to the already existing recall.
The affected components are the electrical system, engine, and power train. In March 2025, my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe displayed multiple warning lamps across the dash, including traction control and check engine lights. The vehicle shifted erratically and sometimes entered limp mode. I brought the vehicle to AutoNation Chevrolet South Clearwater for inspection. The dealer replaced the battery, dismissed my concerns, and stated that a test drive was performed, but the mileage in and out on the invoice was identical, showing it never actually occurred. Diagnostic trouble codes (P0700, P0717, P2714, P2716, P0706, and multiple U-codes) were present but were not fully investigated. A GM Technical Service Bulletin (21-NA-149, December 2022) covers these exact symptoms (caused by engine wiring harness chafing), but it was never referenced or applied. Because the problem was not addressed, the condition worsened. By July 2025, the vehicle suffered a complete transmission failure. At that point, the dealer confirmed the issue, documenting transmission slipping, shuddering, noise, and additional codes (P0700, P077C, P17F6, P17FB, P1872). GM increased its goodwill contribution from 15% to 40% of the $9,925 repair cost, while AutoNation offered only $500 despite their role in the missed diagnosis. Safety Risk: My family and I were at risk each time the vehicle stalled, lost power, or shifted erratically while driving, including at highway speeds. These failures created a significant risk of collision. The drivability problem was not properly confirmed in March 2025 despite multiple codes being present. By July 2025, the dealer acknowledged and confirmed the transmission failure. The vehicle remains available for inspection, and I have retained all invoices, diagnostic reports, and communications with GM and the dealership.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to a lower gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
The affected systems are the power train, engine, and electrical. My 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe experienced failures consistent with GM Technical Service Bulletin 21-NA-149 (engine wiring harness chafing) and the conditions outlined in Recall N232404190 (valve body failure, November 2024). Beginning in March 2025, the vehicle displayed warning lights and messages including Check Engine, Traction Control, Service Transmission, and limp mode (Reduced Acceleration – Drive with Care). The vehicle shifted erratically, lost power, and occasionally failed to accelerate, creating a serious safety hazard at highway speeds. These problems were documented at AutoNation Chevrolet South Clearwater, where multiple diagnostic trouble codes (P0700, P0717, P2714, P2716, P0706, and U-codes) were recorded but not properly investigated. No test drive was performed despite being claimed by the service technician, and the applicable TSB was not referenced. By July 2025, the condition worsened into a complete transmission failure, with additional codes (P0700, P077C, P17F6, P17FB, P1872). The dealer’s estimate required a full transmission replacement at nearly $10,000. GM reviewed the case through its internal Policy Evaluation Tool and increased goodwill assistance from 15% to 40%, while AutoNation contributed only $500. GM’s partial contribution confirms the defect is recognized, yet this VIN remains excluded from the official recall. This issue placed my family and other motorists at significant risk, as sudden loss of power and shifting failures occurred during normal driving conditions. Dealer records, GM documentation, and photographs of warning messages are available. I request that NHTSA expand Recall N232404190 to include affected VINs such as mine, since the symptoms, diagnostic codes, and confirmed failures match exactly what GM has already identified as a known safety issue.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle displayed "Reduced Power," and the rear wheels started to lock-up. The contact was able to keep control of the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who completed the repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train). The contact stated that after the recall repair, while leaving the dealer and driving approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle veered off to the right and ended up partially in the next lane. The contact stated that the vehicle unintendedly shifted into neutral, and the message to "Press Start Again" was displayed. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and parked the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove back to the dealer. The failure recurred twice while returning to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that there was a fuel pump drive failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed the VIN was no longer under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train). The manufacturer opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
My 2021 Tahoe High Country began to make unrecognizable sounds and the orange engine light started blinking. I immediately pulled over and turned the vehicle off. I was made aware that numerous 2021-2024 V8 6.2L engines are affected. I am waiting for my VIN to be selected in some sort of lottery format to qualify for a fix. I was told by a Chevy Service Technician that it can take 2 weeks or 2 years for GM to find a “remedy”. Unacceptable and very expensive to rent a vehicle for work until GM decides to “remedy” my situation. I truly hope they provide me with a solution soon.
I’m reporting a transmission failure that occurred unexpectedly on my 2021 Chevy Tahoe/the diesel version has been recalled so I don’t know why all the other 2021 Tahoe have not been recalled for this issue . The vehicle began shifting roughly and slipping between gears, followed by a warning message and eventual inability to shift properly. I had it inspected by a family friend who owns a body shop , and I was told the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of nearly $7,000. I am no longer under powertrain warranty, but this failure feels premature and unsafe for such a new vehicle. I’ve seen many other 2021 Tahoe owners report similar issues online including transmission failure, harsh shifting, valve body problems, and complete breakdowns . This seems like a pattern, and I believe it may warrant investigation. I’m asking NHTSA to investigate whether this is part of a broader transmission defect that poses a safety or reliability concern. Sudden shifting issues and inability to accelerate or reverse are dangerous for drivers and passengers. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Driver's side headlight adjuster screw breaks very easily, and makes the headlight beam be too low with inability to adjust it. There is no way to replace it... it requires a change of the entire headlight, which requires removing the entire grill. A cheap piece that makes customers pay thousands of dollars in repairs. There are a myriad of reports of this issue online, for example here: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/headlight-adjuster-broken-again.144355/
My [XXX] and myself were going down the interstate and my Tahoe started to sputter and the gas pedal no longer worked. I had to get over to the shoulder of the interstate because my vehicle would not accelerate. It turned off as I was navigating to the shoulder. Thankfully I was able to get there safely without causing an accident. The vehicle completely turned off and would not crank leaving us stranded on the side of the road. I called my husband because I did not know what to do. I kept trying to start the vehicle and it would sputter, but not start. Finally after multiple attempts it cranked up and I was able to get home. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by a dealership; it will be taken first thing in the morning. The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while turning left with a foot on the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lost motive power and started shaking. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the intake fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately five months later. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, where the fuel pump power control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
Leaving the stoplight, all the sudden the dash read service ECM in the motor started clanking. Took it to the dealership where they told me the cam and lifters were bad and said we might as well get a new motor $17,000. And not approved by extended warranty, crooks.
[XXX] # [XXX] VIN = [XXX] MAKE ; Chevrolet Tahoe 2021 RE : I received a recall affects certain 2021-2024 models equipped with the 6.2L V8 L87 engine. The defect involves the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components, potentially leading to engine damage or failure. On March 2025, My Tohoe completely stopped while I was driving. My SUV was towed to Bomnin Chevrolet in Manassas Virginia. They diagnois was crank shaft damage leading to engine failure. My SUV was in the dealership for 2 weeks while the engine was replaced. I spent a total of $ 15,027.20 to fix my car for that problem. I called GM recall about this problem. I was informed that the recall was for only certain vehicles. Not my SUV. I am concerned that my SUV was affected by faulty crank chaft. I had to replace the engine. Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving home from a long trip and heard a large pop. Several warning signs and messages began popping up and the vehicle was shaking and struggling to maintain speed. I was able to get home and get my family out of the vehicle and get it to a dealer down the road. They stated the Fuel injector and harness had failed.
6.2l motor blew up set at dealership for 4 months no motor to fix it. finally got it back with in 10 days the torque converter need replaced in the transmission. out of service out f service for motor june 19 2025 got it back october 20 2025. transmission went out 10mdays later
Vehicle shut off while being driven in traffic, almost causing an accident at intersection due to a failed fuel pump control module. Engine code given was a P102a. Vehicle was unable to be restarted and had to be towed to repair shop.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon attempting to reverse out of a parking spot, the vehicle failed to respond and there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
The safety system needs serviced/repaired and the alert has been present for months, and investigated by GM licensed dealership but not repaired, after several requests. The safety of drivers and passengers has been neglected and the high risk for injury and death while occupying the 2021 Chevy Tahoe. Also on 06/11/2025 the EPS Power Steering system failed, with the system alert showing up on the driver's dash. This is a cause for major concern and is noted that 2021 Chevy Tahoe vehicles have an outstanding recall for those affected. The licensed GM dealership was contacted on 06/12/2025 and again, denied the repair and/or ability for the vehicle to be operated safely. The Tahoe has been taken to the shop over the last 12-16 months and as of this day, occupants of this vehicle are at very high risk for injury and death due to the service safety system alert and the failed EPS system. I am compelled to take additional action, to prevent injury and death unless these issues are able to be immediately resolved.
3rd row headrest- not staying upright was recalled prior to current condition not upright 2nd row seat- adjustment cable broken no longer working Transmission- pump and valve body failed required replacement
Failed OTA Update to information center (Radio) has caused radio unit and screen to become inoperable. Blinkers do not sound when on, warning sounds when backup camera are in use no longer work, along with cross traffic warning due to this. It should be noted we did not consent to the OTA update, and would have not wanted the update as it has caused damage to this system. GM know this is an issue and has refused to fix this.
Recall issued by GM (N25249000/NHTSA 25V274) on powertrain/crankshaft and took car to GM dealer and was refused service or safety inspection. Told that they were told by GM not to inspect or service vehicle at this time. How can a safety recall be issued but GM not be ready to inspect or remedy issue?
Our vehicle was rear ended and the front passenger seatbelt did not lock or (possibly) locked too late. The front passenger's face hit the dashboard, as well as their knees and feet. The vehicle that hit ours was estimated to be travelling at about 45 mph and we were rolling at around 5 mph in traffic. The failure has not been able to be reproduced by the collision center, the sensor callibration contractor, nor the dealership. No sensors showed any failures and the tension appears to be correct on the seatbelt. We have been unable to determine why the seatbelt failed during this incident and if the vehicle will react appropriately in the event of another collision.
Instrument panel has failed twice and is unresponsive. The gauges move and stay to the left after moving left to right. All lights begin to cycle through error messages. I have video of the issue both times it happened. When it occurs, you don't know your speed you have to guess, the full tank reads empty etc., and it is dangerous to back up. The vehicle has been diagnosed by one independent mechanic and is currently at the dealership. There was no warning before the instrument cluster failed other than a cycling through of warning messages service transmission check 4X4, service suspension system, service Power Steering Drive with care. -The center screen goes in and out. -When in reverse, the rear camera is black, the screen blinks intermittently. - Dealer has stated that the wires are put on incorrectly- if that is the case, I am not sure who would have done that other than the manufacturer. -previously reported there was a strong gasoline smell in the cabin that made it really hard to breathe. Dealer corrected. Right passenger side is intermittently wet with no cause from the interior creating stale smells, making it hard to breathe. It is important to note this is the side where the electrical wires are "put in incorrectly" according to the dealer. I also have a video of what occurs
Truck want go over 62 miles heater comes on full blast truck reduces speed while drive and transmission want shift 4wd error comes on service climate system comes on the power steering error comes on the service esc and washer fluid system error comes on it seems like an electrical manufacture error with the truck
We were driving our 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe (purchased Dec 2020; odometer currently right under 40,000 miles) out of town this past weekend and I noticed the headlights were not illuminating the road ahead very well once the sun went down. They seemed like they were pointed down and when i turned on the high beams, those were also lower than how the low beams are usually pointed. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere and I persevered with low lighting onto our destination. After researching the issue on the internet days later, I found a Tahoe Owners' forum/thread [XXX] ) where several other 2021 Tahoe owners had experienced the exact same issue as ours had. The culprit appears to be a sub-component of the headlight adjuster mechanism, but GM/Chevrolet does not offer a replacement for either this small white plastic piece that is failing and the only repair option they have for this issue is complete replacement of the entire headlamp assembly ($1,350 MSRP). This is a dangerous problem that occurred randomly on a vehicle with low mileage and appears to potentially be a common failure for other owners of the same headlamp design. I have not taken this vehicle into the dealership for inspection, as I expect they will only replace the entire headlamp assembly for $$$$. Unknown - engine is driving hard and somethings wrong. No one will service my car because they say it’s on a recall, but then when they look up the VIN number it’s not on a recall however there are major issues going on.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 40 MPH, the "Service Stabili-trak Soon" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine and the contact's husband pulled over and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that after the vehicle was restarted, the failure persisted. The contact's husband pulled into a gas station and called an independent mechanic. The mechanic advised the contact's husband to safely drive the vehicle home and to then take the vehicle to his shop the next day for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was driven to the independent mechanic and was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that cylinders #1 and #7 were not functioning as needed. The contact was then informed that the engine lifters needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and parts were ordered to repair the vehicle. The vehicle remained in the possession of the mechanic and was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,400.
Check Engine Light Came On. Upon Diagnosis', the engine is misfiring, lifters are not performing correctly and there are critical engine alerts and an estimate of 11,000 to fix. 2021 - 83,000 miles v8 - 5.3 NOT the 6.2 and no one will help me bc my power train expires. I am the only owner. Second brand new Tahoe ai bought from this dealership and they are doing nothing to help.
“Catastrophic engine failure” as stated by Chevrolet dealership service department. Loud rattling noise prompted service visit. Not 6.2 liter engine, but almost identical issue.
several issues with certain popups regarding various indicators on dash and engine not getting enough psi
In May 2025, my 2021 Chevy Tahoe experienced transmission failure related to the valve body. The vehicle has now been at the dealership (Richard Chevrolet in Cheshire, CT) for over 2 months with no timeline for repair due to a national backorder on the part. This issue is widely reported among 2021 Tahoes and other GM vehicles, and appears to be a systemic transmission defect. I was never notified of any recall or service bulletin, and I’m still making monthly payments on a vehicle that is inoperable. The rental provided does not suit my family’s needs, and GM has been unable to offer a resolution or clear update. This type of critical drivability failure should be classified as a safety concern, especially considering the volume of similar complaints and the absence of repair parts. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this issue further and take action if warranted.
We are apart of the safety recall with the potential brake and engine issues, we have contacted the dealership and they have NO remedy at the current time for our defective vehicle. We contacted GM to request a buy-back due to the safety issues with the vehicle, told we did not qualify BUT they have no remedy for our defective truck. We do not fell safe in the vehicle, the brakes are sticking and the engine is making weird noises. We are currently seeking legal representation because we are being forced to drive around our family of 5 in an unsafe vehicle with NO remedy or option to trade it in.
My vehicle is a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe with less than 90,000 miles and the catalytic converters have internally failed causing a $3000 complete replacement of that system in which they state should last a lifetime of the vehicle and it is not even five years old.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that the dealer was contacted; however, the contact was informed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about parts availability. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Automatic fuel management/ Displacement on demand caused lifter failure which caused cylinder failures.
Engine burning through oil excessively. Has been noted on multiple occasions and requires early changes and top off. Is also happening with 3 friends with the same make and model with the 6.2L. No warnings but was informed it is common at shop.
MY 2021 TAHOE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 4/26/2025 AS WELL AS IT BEGAN RIDING ROUGH. SCHEDULED SERVICE ON 5/01/2025 WHICH I WAS INFORMED COST OF FAILURE ENGINE DIAGNOSIS REPAIR WOULD COST ME $5,000 UP TO $15,000 TO REPAIR. MY VEHICLE IS BASICALLY NEW AND WHY IS MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ENGINE FAILURE RECALL? HOPEFULLY IT IS AN OVERSIGHT. AS A VALUED CUSTOMER PLEASE ADVISE, THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power and stalled. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that there were no associated recalls. VIN tool search showed: NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,440.
On April 25th, 2025 we were taking our kids to their after school activities when the SUV started to shake, and accelerate very fast by barely pushing the gas pedal, the ETS light along with the forward collision warning also appeared on the dashboard along with the check engine light. This prompted my husband to get our vehicle towed to the nearest shop close to the street where our vehicle started having problems. After several days of diagnostics the shop let us know our vehicle needed the following repairs: Bank One lifters replacement, head gasket service, and a water pump replacement, we ok'd the repairs. Although these components were replaced, we were informed on May 15, 2025, that the vehicle continues to misfire and now requires a camshaft replacement as well. The total cost of the repair has now risen from $5,182.16 to $13,549.79, which is a significant financial burden as the vehicle is just outside of warranty coverage. We are aware that there is an active recall covering similar issues for 2021–2024 Chevrolet Tahoes equipped with 6.2L engines. However, our 5.3L engine model is experiencing the same mechanical failures, including misfires, knocking noises, low RPM idling, and performance degradation. There is growing evidence that the valve lifter issues are not limited to the 6.2L engine variant. Our experience—and the experiences of others reported online—suggests that the 5.3L L84 engine may also suffer from the same design or manufacturing flaws. We respectfully urge NHTSA to investigate whether this issue warrants expanding the scope of the existing recall to include the 5.3L engine models, and we ask that GMC/General Motors be encouraged to provide assistance. Given the severity and known pattern of these issues, we believe GMC should cover at least 75% of the repair costs, or ideally, offer to perform the repair at no charge. Thank you for your time and consideration.
