HEAVY GAS SMELL UPON FILL-UP. SEEMS TO BE INSIDE VEHICLE
STATIONARY IN PARKING LOT WOULD NOT START CAR WOULD NOT START
MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY SMELLING LIKE GAS AFTER FILL UPS AND FUEL PUMP HOUSING
VEHICLE HAD A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. THE OFFENDING PART WAS AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK UNDERNEATH THE BACK PASSENGER SEAT.
WHEN WE FILL UP OUR CHRYSLER 2011 300 WE CAN SMELL GAS ON THE INSIDE AND ON THE OUTSIDE OF CAR
FUEL TRANSFER PUMP ASSEMBLY FAILED ON THIS MODEL AND WAS TOLD THAT NO MOPAR PARTS IN THE COUNTRY ARE AVAILABLE. THE SERVICE GROUP WORKING ON THIS CAR WHEN CONFERRING WITH CHRYSLER PARTS. THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ALLOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS RIGHT SIDE ASSEMBLY. I HAVE FORMALLY PROVIDED CHRYSLER A COMPLIANT TODAY. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP DOING THE WORK, THAT HE FEELS THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL AS THE PASSENGER R SIDE ASSEMBLY SEEMS TO BE THE WORST OF THE TWO IN THIS VEHICLE. CAN YOU LOOK INTO THIS. LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO GET AN AFTER MARKET PART FROM INDIANA SO WE CAN DRIVE THE CAR. IN IT'S PRESENT STATE THE GAS FUMES RADIATING FROM UNDER THE BACK SEATS WERE DANGEROUS THAT COULD LEAD TO A EXTREME DANGER TO THE OCCUPANTS. REGARDS,
I HAVE BEEN SMELLING GAS FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS.O N 11-21-2015 IT WAS DROPPED OFF AT THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE.WHEN I PICKED IT UP ALL THE DOORS AND TRUNK WERE OPEN PRESUMABLY TO AIR OUT THE FUMES.I HAD MY SON CHECK TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS,HE FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK.A LARGE AREA OF THE SOUND PROOFING UNDER THE CAR WAS SOAKED WITH GASOLINE. AFTER CHECKING SEVERAL CHRYSLER BLOGS HE FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON SEVERAL CHRYSLER MODELS AROUND 2011.I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED IT SHOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY FOUND THEY FOUND THE RIGHT SIDE FUEL PUMP LEVEL UNIT LEAKING ON TOP . I BELIEVE IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I NOTICED THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND AN ODOR OF GAS WAS PRESENT IN AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR FOR SERVICE. THEY CHECKED FOR A GAS LEAK AND FOUND IT UNDER THE REAR SEAT. I WILL QUOTE THE INVOICE (165567) DAYTON ANDREWS INC.. "FOUND GAS DRIPPING OF SIDE FOR GAS TANK COMING FROM THE TOP. REMOVED BACK SEAT TO FIND CONNECTOR WAS NOT FULLY INSTALLED. THEY INSTALLED CONNECTOR AND CLEAR CODES. VEHICLE CHECKS OK AT THIS TIME". THE SERVICE MGR. SAID "WE CLEANED UP THE GAS AS BEST WE COULD, AND THAT THE ODOR SHOULD DISSIPATE IN A FEW DAYS". IT'S BEEN A WEEK AND I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. WHEN I DO, I NEED TO HAVE ALL THE WINDOWS DOWN. THIS I FEEL IS VERY DANGEROUS. I'VE NEVER HAD ANY KIND OF MAJOR ACCIDENT AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS CONNECTION THAT WAS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY WAS DONE OR NOT DONE AT THE FACTORY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME. PARKED THE CAR. THE NEXT EVENING WE COULD SMELL GAS FROM OUR FRONT PORCH, TEN FEET FROM THE CAR. CURIOUS WE OPENED THE CAR AND THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WAS PUNGENT FROM THE ODOR OF GAS. CALLED AAA AND TOWED TO LOCAL CAR REPAIR. PLASTIC CAP ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK LOCATED BELOW REAR PASSENGER SEAT FAILED, ACCESS TO 2ND FUEL PUMP. THE PLASIC FAILURE ALLOWED GAS LEAK. THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THE PLASTIC CAP APPEARED DETERIORATED FROM FUEL. WE HAD THE PUMP AND CAP REPLACED. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE MATERIAL IN THE CAP, AND THE DANGER IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FOR CONSEQUENTIAL GAS LEAK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHRYSLER 300. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ADDING GASOLINE TO THE FUEL TANK IT WOULD SPILL OUT. THE FUEL FILLER NECK CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO MALFUNCTION. THE FUEL FUMES WOULD ALSO LINGER IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHICH MADE HER SICK ON THE STOMACH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS WHERE THEY REPLACED THE FILLER CAP BUT THE FUEL CONTINUED TO SPILL BACK OUT AFTER REFUELING. THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE DEALER WOULD REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,506.
