TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1995 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES, IT CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE MARSHALL. POLICE AND FIRE REPORTS WERE FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED, BUT NOT TOWED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

AFTER GETTING HOME FROM A TRIP, I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING ABOUT 2 HOURS AFTER WE'D BEEN HOME. I WALKED AROUND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS AND WHEN I WALKED OUTSIDE, I SAW FLAMES COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE HOOD OF OUR 1995 F-150. MY HUSBAND WENT OVER TO THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR TO OPEN IT SO HE COULD RELEASE THE HOOD LATCH, GET THE HOOD UP AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. WHEN HE DID THAT, THE OXYGEN FROM OPENING THE DOOR IGNITED THE FLAMES EVEN MORE AND THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK JUST WENT UP IN FLAMES AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE POPPED FROM THE HEAT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS THEN CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE AFFECTED THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK INCLUDING THE INTERIOR CAB. LUCKILY FOR US, AT THE TIME, IT WAS NOT CLOSE TO ANY OTHER VEHICLES OR THE HOUSE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER TOOK REPORT NUMBER 1373833330 AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK FROM COUNSEL. THE FIRE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 160,000.

THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE BRAKE FLUID AND STEERING COLUMN WERE LOCATED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND FILED A REPORT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE FORD MANUFACTURER AND IS CURRENTLY WAITING ON PAPERS TO BE SENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
I NOTICED WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN NOVEMBER OF 2005 THAT THE OIL PAN WAS VERY WET WITH OIL. THINKING IT MAY HAVE BEEN A LOOSE GASKET I RE-TORQUED THE PAN BOLTS. IT CONTINUED TO LEAK OIL. I CLEANED THE PAN OF ALL OIL AND NOTICED THE PAN HAD A LOT OF RUSTY AREAS. THE OIL LEAKS WERE IN AREAS WHERE THE PAN HAD THE WORST RUST SPOTS WITH THE METAL OF THE PAN BEING EATEN AWAY BY THE RUST. TWO AREAS HAD TINY HOLES RANGING IN SIZE FROM A TIP OF A PIN TO THE LARGER ONE WHERE IT WOULD LIGHTLY SQUIRT OUT WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. THE OTHER TWO LEAKED SLOWLY LIKE FROM A SPONGE. TWO OF THE LEAKS WERE ON THE FRONT OF THE PAN AND TWO WERE AT THE BOTTOM REAR OF THE PAN. I SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN REMOVED THE DRAIN PLUG AND LET THE OIL DRAIN OUT OF THE PAN OVERNIGHT. THEN I SANDED BY HAND THE AREAS WITH THE LEAKS AND APPLIED LAYERS OF JB WELD TO COVER THE RUSTED OUT AREAS. IT HAS HELD SO FAR BUT I CERTAINLY EXPECT MORE HOLES TO APPEAR AT ANYTIME. I KEEP AN EYE ON THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND CHECK UNDER THE TRUCK AT INTERVALS TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS LEAKING. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. LUCKILY I SAW AND INVESTIGATED THE OIL LEAK BUT SOMEONE ELSE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE ENDED UP WITH AN ENGINE WITH NO OIL LEFT IN IT AND A SCENARIO FOR MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE OR EVEN AN ACCIDENT. I FOUND OUT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE OIL PAN IS VERY EXPENSIVE AS THE ENTIRE ENGINE MUST BE LIFTED IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE PAN. THIS ALL SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A DEFECTIVE OIL PAN, INFERIOR METAL USED, OR THE COATING APPLIED TO THE PAN DIDN'T WORK AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. *NM
VEHICLE DOES NOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT TEPERATURE. I HAVE REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT 2 TIMES, AND THE TEMP SENSOR 1 TIME. UNDER POWER THE TEMP GAUGE DROPS TO BELOW NORMAL AND SHOOTS RIGHT BACK UP. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE POWER ALSO DROPS. I PUT IT ON AN ANALYZER AND ALL REPORTS NORMAL. AFTER CHANGING THE THERMOSTAT THE EVERYTHING IS OK FOR APPX. 2 DAYS, THEN IT STARTS AGAIN.
NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM OIL PAN. INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE OIL PLUG. WHILE CHANGING OIL DETECTED THAT THE OIL PAN WAS EXTREMELY RUSTED ON EXTERIOR SURFACE, AND OIL LEAKING FROM CORRODED SURFACE OF OIL PAN. OIL LEAK IS GETTING PROGRESSIVLY WORSE. CONCERNED TO DRIVE VEHICLE ON PUBLIC ROADS IN FEAR OF LOSING ALL OF THE OIL FROM ENGINE AND CAUSING DANGEROUS ROAD CONDITIONS AND SERIOUS DAMAGE TO ENGINE.*AK
MY 1995 FORD F-150 SPONTANEOUSLY BURST INTO FLAMES AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 6 HOURS. A FIERY INFERNO TOTALED THE ENGINE AND CAB. NO SIGN OF PROBLEM IN VEHICLE PRIOR TO FIRE EXCEPT THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN WORKED AGAIN.*AK
MY F150 PICKUP HAS VIRTUALLY NO RUST BUT 2 DAYS AGO I WAS UNDERNEATH AND SAW RUST SPOTS ON THE ENGINE OIL PAN AND BIG BUBBLES UNDER THE PAINT SO I THOUGHT I WOULD SCRAPE THEM OFF AND RUSTPROOF BUT AS SOON AS I SCRAPED THE OIL POURED OUT AND WHEN I PUT PRESSURE ON THE RUST SPOTS (ABOUT 6 SQUARE INCHES)THEY WERE SOFT. IF THE OIL PAN WOULD HAVE FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS I THINK IT WOULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM HAVING THE PAN REPLACED OCT 11 AND WILL KEEP IT. *NM
I OWN A 1995 FORD F-150 WITH A ROTTED OUT OIL PAN . IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND FORD CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE MOISTURE GETS BETWEEN THE PAINT AND THE OIL PAN METAL AND STARTS TO ROT IT OUT WITHOUT YOU KNOWING ABOUT IT. NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU HAVE OIL DRIPPING IN YOUR DRIVEWAY BECAUSE OF FORDS INABILITY TO REPAIR OR RECALL THIS PROBLEM. THESE IDIOTS WANT TO SELL YOU A VEHICLE AND DON'T CARE AFTER IT IS SOLD. THE PAINT THEY USED IN CERTAIN 1990'S MODELS WAS DEFECTIVE AND OR NOT DONE PROPERLY AND NEED TO BE RECALLED OR REPLACE THE OIL PAN WITH LIMITED COST!!
