TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD F-150 EQUIPPED WITH GOOD YEAR TRACKER 2 TIRES, SIZE: 31X10.50R15LT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE TO CHECK THE FRONT WHEELS AND DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE WAS DEFLATED AND A HOLE WAS IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A SECOND FAILURE WHEN WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 4 MPH WHEN A LOUD BANG WAS PRESENT. WHEN CHECKING THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFLATED AND A HOLE WAS IN THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST SLIGHT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE EXPLODING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE TIRE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TIRE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06T016000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

EXPERIENCED SEPARATION OF 6/16" TO 7/16" DEPTH TREAD FROM 1 TIRE OF MATCHED SET GOING 75 MPH ON CLEAR DAY, CLEAR, SMOOTH HIGHWAY. VERY LUCK NO ONE WAS HURT. DID SOME DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. LIKE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, THE TIRE HAD SHOWN NO WARNING SIGNS OF POSSIBLE FAILURE, WAS NOT UNDERINFLATED, WAS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR CLOSE TO THE POINT OF HAVING INSUFFICIENT TREAD WEAR (STILL APPROX. 3/8" TREAD LEFT ON TIRE) OR DID NOT SHOW ANY SUPERFICIAL DAMAGE TO THE SIDEWALL OR TREAD. S/N ON TIRE M3ULBF7X4000, ENTIRE SIDE WALL FAILED CAUSING A BLOWOUT. I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WITH NO WEIGHT IN THE TRUCK. TIRES WERE PURCHASED ON 12/13/2000 AND ONLY HAD ABOUT 2000 MILES. SEVERAL LAYERS OF RUBBER SEPARATED ALLOWING FOR ONE SIDE OF THE TIRE TO BE COMPLETELY SEPERATED (YOU COULD PUT YOUR HAND INSIDE THE TIRE AND RUN IT ALL THE WAY AROUND). THE BROKEN RUBBER DID NOT SMELL BURNED. I RETURNED THE TIRE TO SAM'S CLUB IN VERNON HILLS, IL FOR REPLACEMENT, THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE TIRE, BUT REFUSED TO REPLACE THE OTHER TIRE. THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT OF THE TIRE OTHER THAN STEEL CORDS WHICH SLAPPED/DAMAGED AROUND WHEEL WELL. REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES TO HAVE EVEN TREAD WEAR. STILL HAVE SPARE(USED ONCE) THAT IS SAME AS TIRE THAT BLEW. ALTHOUGH THIS TIRE IS PRESENTLY NOT RECALLED, WANTED TO REPORT SUCH SO THAT I MIGHT BE ELIGIBLE IF IT IS RECALLED LATER.
