ON 11/5/17 MY 2004 GMC YUKON XL WAS INVOLVED IN A SEVERE COLLISION WHERE MY TRUCK HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BOTH VEHICLES WERE DOING 55+ MPH. MY FRONT END TOOK ALL MY DAMAGE. NOT ONE AIRBAG WENT OFF IN MY TRUCK.
LOOSE RIGHT FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY WHICH RESULTED NOISE AND INDICATION BY SERVICE TECH THAT IT COULD EVENTUALLY HAVE RESULTED IN WHEEL SEPARATION. MY RECENT RESEARCH REVEALED A BULLETIN WHICH NOTES A RECALL; # 47678 DEC 17, 2007. EVEN THOUGH I PAID OUR OF POCKET ON 08/07/2007 TO REPLACE THE BEARING, MY RECENT VISIT TO A GM DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER ON 11/06/2009 REVEALED THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
I PULLED A BOAT WITH THE VEHICLE (2000 GMC YUKON XL 2500) ABOUT 275 MILES TO A LAKE AND PUT IT IN THE WATER. TOOK THE BOAT OUT OF THE WATER AND STARTED BACKING IT INTO A SPACE WHEN I HEARD A STRANGE "POP". THEN REALIZED THAT ALL POWER ASSISTED BRAKING AND STEERING WAS GONE. HAD TO LEAVE THE BOAT WHERE IT WAS, AND WAS HAPPY THE PROBLEM DIDN'T OCCUR WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY. TESTED THE VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE I COULD STEER AND STOP IT UNDER CAREFUL CIRCUMSTANCES, THEN DROVE IT DIRECTLY, SLOWLY, AND CAREFULLY TO THE DEALER ABOUT 50 MILES. MY OWN INVESTIGATION FOUND A RECALL ID NUMBER 05V005000: "HYDRAULIC PUMP DRIVESHAFT THAT CAN FRACTURE, RESULTING IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKES, THE SAME CONDITION CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR BRAKING AFTER THE RESERVE PRESSURE IS DEPLETED." THE DEALER CONFIRMED THIS WAS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE, BUT THE RECALL DID NOT COVER MY VIN - [XXX]. SEEMED STRANGE TO ME THAT 98000+ OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME TYPE FROM THE SAME YEAR ARE COVERED, BUT MINE WASN'T. NOW I SEE THAT THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE WITH THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES AS MINE. I THINK THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE WIDENED. THOUGH I GOT NO INITIAL HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I CALLED THE GMC RECALL 800 NUMBER AND THEY DIRECTED ME BACK TO THE DEALERS GENERAL MANAGER AND SAID I SHOULD HAVE HIM SPEAK TO THE GM REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT COMPENSATION IN MY CASE. I DID THAT, AND AT LEAST THEY DID COVER THE COST OF THE PART (ABOUT $500), BUT NOT THE LABOR OF $193 TO REPLACE THE PUMP. I ASKED TO KEEP THE OLD PUMP AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD, BUT WAS NOT GIVEN THE PUMP OR AN EXPLANATION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP. THE RECEIPT FROM THE DEALER SEEMS TO INDICATE A "CORE RETURN" UNDER PARTS, SO I GUESS I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY TO KEEP THE OLD PART AND NOT RETURN IT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOING 65MPH A LOUD RACING NOISE COULD BE HEARD IN THE TRANSMISSION, THE GEARS SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE GRINDING, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED; THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THE NOISES STARTED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ONCE AGAIN TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION THE TRANSMISSION WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. NO REPAIRS MADE AT THIS TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
1) 4WD FAULTY ENCODER MOTOR FAILURE--SWITCH TO ENGAGE 4WD FAILED; OCCURRED AT 75,841 MILES ON 12/31/03 2) COULD NOT PUT VEHICLE INTO 4WD WHEN ON WINDING, NARROW, SNOWY ROAD; FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT. *JB 3) 4WD FAULTY ENCODER MOTOR REPLACED ON 1/3/04, BUT WE HAD TO PAY FOR IT & 4WD RENTAL CAR; $938.46 & 180.15, RESPECTIVELY NOTE: I AM NOW REPORTING THIS BECAUSE AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL AND I HAVE JUST HEARD THAT OTHER 4WD SAME SUV'S, YUKONS AND CHEVY TAHOES, HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO RECALL THIS COMPONENT. *JB

MY 2000 YUKON HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE STALLING DURING BRAKING AND TURNS SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2001 WITH 10,000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. THE PROBLEM IS NOW SEVERE AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH MORE TIMES THAN YOU AND I HAVE FINGERS AND TOES. I CANNOT TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM NOR CAN I FIND A MECHANIC OR DEALERSHIP (HA HA ) THAT CAN FIND OUT WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE INTAKE MOTOR OR THE INTAKE GASKET NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT DIAGNOSTICS CANNOT BACK THESE THEORIES UP. TODAY I NEARLY HIT A TELEPHONE POLE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DIED AND LOST POWER STEERING WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN. *AK

WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE TRANSMISSION REACTS AS IF IN NEUTRAL. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, IT DROPS INTO GEAR. SINCE NO "CODES" SHOW UP WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR THE DEALER WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE'S A PROBLEM. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT IF THE DRIVER IS ATTEMPTING TO CROSS A ROADWAY, MOVER OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, ETC. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS APPLIED. DT
ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND TRUCK GOING INTO A "NEUTRAL" WHILE ON HIGHWAY, TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY KEPT IT 11 DAYS HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. NOW, APRX 6 WEEKS LATER TRUCK IS AGAIN NOT SHIFTING RIGHT, PUT IN REVERSE FROM PARKED POSITION, PRESS ACCELERATOR AND THE TRUCK SLAMS INTO GEAR. WHEN IN DRIVE FROM PARKED POSITION ACCELERATE AND IT REVS AND REVS AND FINALLY SLAMS INTO DRIVE THEN INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING GOES IN & OUT OF GEAR. PRETTY DISGUSTED FOR A XMAS GIFT AT $45,000.00 NEVER EXPECTED THIS. *AK
PURCHASED VEHICLE USED FROM MEI AUTO BROKERS 407 834 6244 ON 11/06/01 TOOK VEHICLE TO COURTESY GMC 407 767 2070 ON 11/08/01 SPOKE WITH DAVE JUNKINS EXT 1236 . DAVE TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVESHAFT WAS UNBALANCED AND THAT CAUSED THE SHAKING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 45 MPH. HE ALSO STATED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING ERROR AND THAT IT WAS LIKE THAT(UNBALANCED W/ SHAKING ) SINCE MANUFACTURED I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT THIS DRIVESHAFT SHAKING AND VIBRATING SINCE NEW HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR DIFFERENTIAL AND SUBSEQUENT FAILURE IS IMMINENT. TO THIS DATE 11/20/01 I AM STILL AWAITING WORD FROM DAVE AT COURTESY ON WHEN A NEW PART WILL ARRIVE AND REPAIRS WILL BE PREFORMED.
