TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLDE DOWN A SMALL HILL. THEN THE ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHEN HE TRIED TO BRAKE. THE CONTACT HAD TO ANGLE THE WHEELS TO COME TO A STOP ON A SLIGHTLY ICY. THE CONTACT WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE ABS SYSTEM AND REFERRED HIM TO A DEALER CURRY HONDA YORKTOWN 3845 CROMPOND RD, YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY 10598 914) 739-7600 .THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND SAID TO BRING IT IN. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CALLED YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON BUSY 4 LANE ROAD AND WAS TURNING TO THE LEFT TO GET IN THE TURN LANE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO MOVE. I WAS ABLE WHILE STRUGGLING TO MAKE THE TURN. IT WAS LUCKY AS THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE DEALER AND NOW HAVE A $3,000 REPAIR BILL TO FIX THE POWER STEERING. I HAVE NOTICED ALL THE COMPLAINTS GOING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL YEAR THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT AND CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT CAUSED A RECALL.
I WAS GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS DRIVING HOME ALONG THE SERVICE ROAD WHEN I NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL AUTOMATICALLY TURNED ON ITS OWN, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST CRASH INTO PARKED CARS. NO LIGHTS APPEARED ON MY DASH AND IT WAS OUT OF THE ORDINARY. LUCKILY I WAS OFF THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE INJURED MULTIPLE PEOPLE. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SO HARD TO CONTROL REQUIRING YOU TO GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN IT. ONCE YOU LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL, IT WOULD TURN REALLY FAST ON ITS OWN TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TURNING ON AND OFF THE CAR, UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY, BUT THE ISSUE WAS STILL THERE. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND ALSO CONTACTED CORPORATE IN WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT THE RACK AND PINION IS BAD, AND IF THE CAR DOESN'T SHOW A CODE, THEY WON'T COVER IT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 46K MILES, AND A BIG SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED OR PARTIALLY COVERED. INSTEAD, I WAS TOLD IT WAS GOING TO BE OVER $3K FOR INSTALL AND PARTS, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.
AFTER SERVICE AT HONDA SERVICE STATION AT ROSENBERG, TX... I HAD ISSUES WITH THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE FRONT OF THE GRILL, ALSO A CODE SHOWED UP 2 DAYS LATER, ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT... WHEN SCANNED IT WAS "P0420"... WAS WONDERING IF, THE MECHANICS WHILE CLEANING, USED WATER UNDER PRESSURE TO CLEAN, AND DURING THE CLEANING, DID THEY FLOOD MY EXHAUST... "CREATING BUSINESS?""
WE BOUGHT THE HONDA ACCORD FROM THE DEALERSHIP BRAND NEW AND TOOK DELIVERY 11/4/2013. ON SATURDAY 11/16/2019, WITH JUST OVER 40,000 MILES ON THE CAR WE NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. IT WAS NOT ONLY HARD TO STEER BUT ALSO WOULD CONTINUE PROGRESSING IN THE DIRECTION TURNING. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY 11/18/2019 WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE RACK, POWER STEERING NEEDED REPLACE FOR A TOTAL COST OF $2,797.49. CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP. CONTACTED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY SINCE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED 12 DAYS EARLIER. THEY WOULDN'T HELP. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND HAS VERY LOW MILLAGE. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND AND ARTICLE IN EDMUNDS "FEDS PROBE 2013 HONDA ACCORD FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE", ESTIMATE 374,000 COMPLAINS ABOUT THE 2013 HONDA ACCORDS. ISN'T THAT ENOUGH TO FORCE HONDA TO DO A RECALL?
PAINT IS FLACKYING FROM CAR. VISIBLE AREAS THAT CAN BE SEEING WHERE PAINT IS PEELING AWAY AND PRIMER IS EXPOSED. I HAVE ASKED IF I COULD DRIVE CAR IN OR SEND PICTURES TO ENSURE THAT THIS IS NOT DO TO LACK OF CARE. MY VEHICLE LOOKS AND RUNS EXCELLENT. LARGE AREAS OF PEELING PAINT THAT CAN EASILY BE SEEN.I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT CONTACTING BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND AMERICAN HONDA, YET I HAVE HAD NO SUCCESS AT A RESOLUTION.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY WIFE, MOTHER IN-LAW AND MY TWO YEARS DAUGHTER AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD AND STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY FAMILY AND MYSELF BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY! I TOOK THE NEAREST EXIT IT WAS VERY DIFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. I STOPPED THE TO CHECK MY PHONE ON WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE? THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE BEFORE AND HAD REPORTED IT TO THE NHTSA. BUT NOTHING WAS DONE! I CARE FOR MY FAMILY' SAFETY AND I WILL HOLD THE NHTSA RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ME OR MY FAMILY DUE TO THIS ISSUE.THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY HONDA.
ALONG SEVERAL OTHERS, I BEGAN HAVING THE INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS ON MY 2013 2.4 L ACCORD AT AROUND 60,000 MILES. THIS TYPE OF STARTER USES A SOLENOID TO MOVE THE STARTER MOTOR'S PINION GEAR FORWARD TO MESH WITH THE FLYWHEEL'S RING GEAR WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY PULLING THE PLUNGER AND ITS COPPER CONTACT DISC ONTO THE BATTERY CONTACT AND THE STARTER MOTOR CONTACT TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT FROM THE BATTERY TO THE STARTER MOTOR. WHEN FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, TURNING THE IGNITION KEY OR STARTER BUTTON SHOULD MESH STARTER'S PINION GEAR WITH THE FLYWHEEL AND TURN THE STARTER MOTOR TO CRANK THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM WITH THESE STARTERS IS THAT THE BATTERY-SIDE CONTACT AND THE BATTERY-SIDE OF THE PLUNGER CONTACT ERODE EXCESSIVELY DUE TO ARCING AND CONSEQUENT PITTING. THIS INTERMITTENTLY PREVENTS THE PLUNGER'S CONTACT FROM CONTACTING THE BATTERY-SIDE CONTACT TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND STARTER MOTOR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE PINION GEAR MESHES WITH THE FLYWHEEL BUT THE STARTER MOTOR DOESN'T TURN. NOTE THAT THE PINION GEAR ENGAGING AND DISENGAGING THE FLYWHEEL IS THE CLICKING SOUND HEARD FROM UNDER THE CAR DURING A FAILED START. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY REPLACING THE CONTACTS WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN HONDA BRUSH HOLDER (HONDA PART NUMBER: 31210-5A2-A01) WHICH COST ME $45 AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. I BELIEVE 2013 THROUGH 2017 2.4 L ACCORDS USE THIS PART WHICH SUGGESTS THAT THEY WILL, OR ARE, EXPERIENCING THE INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM. ONE WOULD THINK HONDA WOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE FRONT PANEL THAT INDICATE FLAT TIRED, HAND BRAKE, ABS, AIR PRESSURE, ETC ARE ON.
The 9th generation Honda Accord seemed to have a common issue with premature starter failure and excessive engine oil consumption. My starter failed at around 40k miles. I then noticed after a fresh oil change, and with 70% oil life remaining, my engine is bone dry with no oil and the only reason I checked was because of a low pressure warning light. I have complained to honda that this is not normal. There are no leaks whatsoever. To prevent engine damage, I have to fill in a quart of engine oil for every 1500 miles of driving. I have owned several honda's and never once had any issues like this. I even changed the pcv valve and that did not fix the issue. Honda knows about the excessive oil consumption and refused to issue a recall to replace the piston rings. Almost every 9th generation Honda Accord owner faces premature starter failure and excessive oil consumption. This is not normal and Honda is avoiding this issue and give customers like me the run around to perform compression test etc and adding engine oil for every 1000 miles of driving is normal. I have never heard of such thing unless you drive a high performance vehicle. I hope NHTSA will investigate and force Honda to issue a recall and compensate owners who had to pay out of pocket for premature starter failures.
THE CAR LOOSES ITS STEERING CONTROL. WHEN STATIONARY (AND DRIVING), IF I TAKE MY HANDS OFF THE STEERING, IT AUTOMATICALLY STEERS ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT. IT SOMETIMES RESETS THE PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED OR WHEN IT IS TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT, THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN SHORTLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT LIKE OTHERS, I ONLY GOT A BIG BILL OF $2800.
REPEATED IGNITION SYSTEM FAILURE ON 2013 HONDA ACCORD V6 TOURING WITH PUSH BUTTON START THAT LEFT MY DAUGHTER AND ME STRANDED ON A NIGHT WHEN IT WAS ONLY 13 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO. PUSH BUTTON START ONLY RESULTED IN A GRINDING NOISE, NO ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE FLYWHEEL TO START THE ENGINE. STARTER HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER ONCE (AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALER TO FIX THIS ISSUE) WITH THE SAME RESULTING GRINDING NOISE AND FAILURE OF THE ENGINE TO START. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO HONDA CORPORATION MANY TIMES; IT IS A POORLY ENGINEERED AND FAULTY DESIGN THAT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND CANNOT FIX.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. I TRAVEL ABOUT 30K A YEAR. I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY METICULOUS WITH THE EXTERIOR AND MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE. DURING THE COURSE OF MY TRAVELS, I HAVE ON AT LEAST 4-5 OCCASIONS HAD DIFFICULTY CHANGING LANES. MORE SPECIFIC, WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A LANE CHANGE AT LOW SPEED (5-35 MPH) I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO MAKE A LANE CHANGE. THE ABILITY TO STEER CAME BACK QUICKLY, BUT FOR A SECOND OR TWO, A TURN WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THIS PAST WEEK, ON 10/30/2019, A SIMILAR SCENARIO TRANSPIRED. I WAS STOPPED AT A "STOP" SIGN AND NEEDED CROSS AN INTERSECTION AND MAKE A LEFT TURN. JUST WHEN IT WAS TIME TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, NOT ALLOWING ME TO TURN LEFT. AS THERE WAS AN ONCOMING VEHICLE, I WAS ABLE SLOW DOWN BUT STRUCK A CURB WITH MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE. THE IMPACT BEAT UP THE RIM PRETTY BAD AND DEFLATED THE TIRE. I REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE AND HEADED TO A NEAR MECHANIC, ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY. THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE DAMAGE INCLUDED CRACKED RIM, POWER STEERING RACK AND ELECTRONIC STEERING BOX TO NAME A FEW. IN RESEARCHING PARTS, I CAME ACROSS MANY INCIDENTS IN WHICH A 2013 HONDA ACCORD HAS HAD FAILED STEERING CAPABILITY. I CONTACTED HONDA (CASE #10012315), THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM NOW, NOR IN THE PAST AND COULD NOT COMMENT ON PROBLEMS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OLD AND HAD A LOT OF MILES. THEY TOLD ME "YOU HAD AN ACCIDENT, WHY ARE YOU CALLING HONDA, YOU SHOULD BE CALLING AN INSURANCE COMPANY". HONDA WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. I EXPRESSED MY REGRET IN NOT PURCHASING A FUTURE HONDA VEHICLE... SHAME ON HONDA.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JOHN EAGLE HONDA OF HOUSTON (18787 NORTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77065, (281) 528-1165) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SOMETIMES MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD CAR WON'T START IMMEDIATELY. IT WAS STATIONARY. I HAVE TO WAIT A MINUTE AFTER THE FIRST FEW TRIES. IT A STARTER ISSUE. IT NOT THE BATTERY I PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY AND I I'M STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
THE EPS GEAR BOX FAILED. IT'S HARD TO TURN TO ONE SIDE WHILE EASY TO TURN ON THE OTHER SIDE. IT'S HARD TO BE IN CONTROL WHEN TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM.
THE CAR HAS INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHANGED AND CHECKED AND THERE APPEAR TO BE NO ISSUES THERE. ONLINE FORUMS SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A ENDEMIC STARTER ISSUE WITH HONDA ACCORDS. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START WITH EASE. OTHER TIMES IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. WHEN IT DOES NOT START I HAVE TO JUMP IT, BUT WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE AUTO SHOP AFTERWARDS THEY TELL ME THAT THERE ARE NO APPARENT ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR.
WHEN TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING MY ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND RESTARTS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER SONS HONDA (105 SONS DR. MCDONOUGH GA ) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE STARTER WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
STARTER MOTOR DOES NOT ACTIVATE ALL OF THE TIME. THE STARTER JUST CLICKS ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME . THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 3 MONTHS. THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY START AFTER NUMEROUS TRIES. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 67000

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HOSMER HONDA (3825 4TH ST SW, MASON CITY, IA 50401) AND DIAGNOSED WITH POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY 16 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. HE WAS IN MOTION ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY, TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. HE JUST CAME OFF AN ACCESS ROAD AND HAD VEERED TO THE RIGHT TO MERGE INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 38K MILES. THE WHEEL JERKED TO THE RIGHT AND TOOK GREAT EFFORT TO CENTER THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE TO A STOP. HE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND CALLED ME. STATED IT WAS STILL DRIVEABLE AND DROVE HOME, BUT CONTINUED TO HAVE TO ACCOMMODATE FOR STEERING WHEEL JERKING TO THE RIGHT AND CIRCULATING OUT OF CONTROL WHEN LET GO. I DROVE THE CAR UPON HIS RETURN AND EXPERIENCED SAME ISSUE. TAKING VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK.
2013 ACCORD DID NOT START AND MAKE A CLICK SOUND. HONDA DEALER NOT ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM. BATTERY, STARTER REPLACED BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT ON CITY STREET WITH HANDS ON STEERING WHEEL, SOMETHING JERKED IT TO THE LEFT AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING, I GOT OVER STEERING MANUALLY INTO A PARKING LOT. I TURNED IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN.
VEHICLE WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT START. WHEN PRESSING THE BUTTON, A STATIC NOISE IS HEARD. THE STARTER IS SPINNING, BUT NOT ENGAGING WITH THE TORQUE GEAR. THE STARTER MOTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES BUT THE RESULT IS THE SAME. THESE START ISSUES ARE A DAILY OCCURRENCE. THE ONLY WAY IT STARTS IS IF I SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND TRY. OCCASIONALLY THAT DOESN'T WORK AND I HAVE TO SHIFT BACK TO PARK AND TRY TO START IT THERE.

WHEN I TURN KEY IGNITION CAR DOESNT START, I HAVE TO TURN KEY BACK AND FORTH FOR IT TO START

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO START THE VEHICLE. DUNNING HONDA OF FERNDALE (21350 WOODWARD AVE, FERNDALE, MI 48220, 248-548-6300) WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE OF $700 TO HAVE THE STARTER REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE STARTER WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GRIND PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING. THE CONTACT STATED HE WOULD LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE. I OWN A 2013 (BOUGHT NEW) WITH 45000 MILES ON IT. THE STARTER WENT OUT AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS REPLACED AS WELL. IT A BEAUTIFUL CAR AND ITS WAY TO SOON TO BE HAVING THESE ISSUES. THE CAR WON'T START AND MAKES A GRINDING NOISE.
The steering will act on its own, sometimes fighting against the input of the driver. There aren’t any trouble lights on the dash or anything indicating a problem. Sometimes the steering wheel will turn fully in one direction completely on its own. If you don’t have a tight grip on the steering wheel at all times, it can push the vehicle in directions you don’t intend it to go. Has been happening regularly since it started in July 2019.

2013 HONDA ACCORD CAUGHT ON FIRE IN OUR COMPLEX ON SUNDAY 6/9/2019. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE CATCHING ON FIRE. WE WERE CALLED BY OUR NEIGHBOR THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE JUST BEFORE 4PM THAT DAY. WHEN WE GOT BACK, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD JUST PUT OUT THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS ALSO FILED. THE CAR IS ALSO IS PART OF AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE BATTERY SENSOR. WE RECEIVED 2 NOTICES (AUGUST 2017/FEB 2019) AND I WAS TOLD EACH TIME THAT THE CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY ALONG WITH OPENED UP A CASE WITH HONDA. I ALSO FILED A CONSUMER COMPLAINT AGAINST HONDA FOR A DEFECTIVE CAR. NO ONE WAS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME IT CAUGHT ON FIRE BUT THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS AS IT DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR. MY INSURANCE COMPANY ALONG WITH HONDA WILL BE SENDING OUT THEIR FIRE INSPECTORS TO IDENTIFY THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE TO DETERMINE LIABILITY.
