I purchased this car from Trickett Honda in June 2013. The mileage on 9/11/23 was 23,602 (the day of the rear wheel hub bearing repair). This car was used primarily by my wife and driven mostly in town for short trips (14 to 25 miles round trip to and from home), seldom trips to Nashville and back. My wife started complaining about what she called “road noise” 4 or 5 years ago. I occasionally drove the car and it was loud, but I thought it might just be tires, but the tires looked OK. I do remember being on the interstate hwy at 75 and noticed a high noise level. My wife recently had to drive her brother to Nashville for doctor appointments and he told her he thought the noise was from a bad wheel bearing. So, I started searching on Google for 2013 Honda Accord noise problems and found many references. One was a Honda Engineering Request for Investigation (copy attached). In order to qualify the VIN must start with 1HG (my vin). It said to call Technical Research & Support at 800-880-1072 and I did. TRS told me to contact Music City Honda and I gave them the info (case number etc.) and they told me they knew nothing about Honda requesting that they look at the car. The guy I talked with said they would charge $150 just to get in the car and drive it. So, I called Gallatin Honda, got transferred to the service dept., told to leave a message and they never called back. So, I called Murfreesboro Honda and the service guy said it would cost $450 labor plus parts to fix one rear wheel bearing. I took it to Hight’s Auto repair and Mr. Hight got in with me and drove the car and told me the noise was from one or both rear hub bearings and it was just one and he fixed it for $325.67 (invoice attached). He said we are lucky that nothing bad happened (like the wheel coming off). He gave me the bad wheel hub bearing in case Honda wants it. Apparently Honda knows about this problem and is not fixing it. There is something wrong with a bearing that goes bad this quick.
My vehicle currently has the TPMS, VSA(Stabilty/ABS),Electric Power Steering, Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Warning lights are on. I brought my vehicle to a local Tire Discounters. They scanned for the codes and it brought up the VSA Modulator (aka ABS Module) malfunction. I researched through forums and it is a common issue with Honda ABS module. The VSA/ABS module has to be replaced due to electrical issues within the module. This could lead to a crash/injury.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN THE RAIN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, VEHICLE WAS HARD TO STOP AND UNSTABLE. THE BRAKE, TPMS, AND VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALSH HONDA (2056 EISENHOWER PKWY, MACON, GA 31206, (478) 788-4510) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE CONTACT STATED THE WRONG PART WAS PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000. INVALID VIN.
DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMPLY FAILED AT 66,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL HONDA PART WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. WHIRRING NOISE WAS INCREASINGLY WORSE WHEN I WAS DRIVING, PROMPTING ME TO HAVE IT EVALUATED BY MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE HE SHOWED ME THE NOISE MADE WHEN THE ONE WHEEL WAS TURNED WITH THE CAR ON THE RACK. PART WAS REPLACED. THE OTHER REAR BEARING ASSEMBLY SEEMS OK SO FAR. REPAIR BILL WAS $430. MECHANICS TELL ME THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A WHEEL BEARING TO FAIL WITH SO LITTLE MILES ON THE CAR.
I BOUGHT 60,000 MILE MICHELIN TIRES ON JUNE 5. 2013 AND NOW JUST AT 30,000 THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED OUT.

THE INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. ON MORE THAN TEN OCCASIONS, THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT BE DUE TO THE LOW TEMPERATURES IN FLORIDA. THE SENSOR DID NOT IDENTIFY WHICH TIRES MAY HAVE LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE DEALER INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY ALL FOUR REPLACED WAS DEFECTIVE THE ALL HAS 72,000 MILE AND NOW THE ABS HAS WENT BAD AND THE TPS SYSTEM IS BAD . THE ALUMINUM RIMS FOR BREAKING DO TO SALT CORROSION TWO OF THE FOUR RIMS BROKE COST TO REPLACE EACH RIM 435 IF THE RIMS AREN'T APART OF SAFETY AND ABS AND TPS ISN'T A QUALITY COMPONENTS DIDN'T KNOW CAR IS SAFE ON THE ROAD
THE TPMS LIGHT CAME ON A FEW HUNDRED MILES BEFORE A TIRE BLEW OUT. I CONSIDERED THE TEAR IN THE SIDE-WALL OF THE TIRE BEFORE THE BLOW TO BE THE LIKELY CAUSE OF THE TPMS LIGHT ON (LOSING PRESSURE). AFTER A BRAND NEW SET OF FOUR (4) TIRES, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRY TO RE-CALIBRATE THE TPMS, OR CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE MYSELF, OR TAKE THE CAR TO THE TIRE SHOP TO CHECK THE PRESSURES, THE LIGHT REMAINS ON NO MATTER WHAT. THIS IS AN ON0GOING ISSUE THAT CONTINUES DAILY, DESPITE DRIVING CONDITIONS.
TPMS LIGHT ILLUMINATES EVEN THOUGH ALL TIRES HAVE THE CORRECT PRESSURE. TWO VISITS TO THE DEALER HAVE NOT RESOVLED THE ISSUE.
ON TWO OF OUR TIRES THE RUBBER CRACKED AND COMPLETELY SPLIT FROM THE RADIAL AROUND 1/3 TO 2/3 AROUND THE TIRE ABOUT 0.25" FROM THE WHEEL RIM. THIS HAPPENED ON 2 OF THE 4 TIRES (ALL THE SAME DOT AND INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME.) THE REAR TIRES SHOW THE INITIAL SIGNS OF THE SAME DEFECT BUT THE RUBBER HASN'T SEPARATED YET FROM THE RADIAL. THE TIRES HAVE ABOUT 45,000 MILES ON THEM INSTALLED AND SERVICE BY FIRESTONE. LUCKILLY THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT, BREAKDOWN, FIRE, ETC; HOWEVER, IT IS VERY SUSPICIOUS THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE NEARLY THE SAME DEFECT. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRES. DOT Y9BC CLHX 3315. BRAND PRIME WALL SIZE 205/65/R16 ON 2013 HONDA ACCORD. LOCATED IN SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE WHEELS LOCKED UP. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A CURB AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE WHEELS LOCKED UP DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PARTICULAR CODE THAT WAS NEEDED TO UNLOCK THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,207.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES I BEGAN TO HEAR A STRANGE SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. AS IT BECAME LOUDER, I DETECTED IT WAS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL. WHEN I PULLED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND INCREASED MY SPEED THE NOISE BECAME SLIGHTLY LOUDER SO I SLOWED DOWN TO 50 MPH. SUDDENLY THE NEXT THING I KNEW THE CAR BEGAN EXPERIENCING DRAG AND SLOWED SO I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER AND REALIZED THE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. THE TREAD ON THE TIRE IS STILL VERY GOOD THOUGH. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE OTHER THREE (3) TIRES AND WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD REPLACE THEM, AS WELL. UNFORTUNATELY, I'M WORKING IN KOREA WITH THE US MILITARY AND HAD MY CAR SHIPPED OVER HERE. WHEN I CALLED HONDA IN THE STATES ABOUT THE MATTER (TIRE WARRANTY = 6 YEARS) THEY STATED WHILE LIVING ABROAD THEY DO NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY UNTIL I RETURN.
WENT FOR LUNCH, AND PARKED MY CAR ON THE STREET. AFTER FINISHING LUNCH, ABOUT HALF AN HOUR LATER, GOT INTO THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO START IT. EVERYTHING WORKED, BUT THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF (RADIO AND AC WOULD STAY ON HOWEVER). TRIED AGAIN, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WARNING, AND TIRE PRESSURE WARNING. TOOK KEY OUT OF IGNITION, WAITED A MINUTE, BEFORE TRYING AGAIN. THIS TIME, TURNED OFF RADIO AND AC. CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF STILL. TRIED 2-3 MORE TIMES, AND CAR FINALLY STARTED, ALL WITH A TOTAL OF 4 WARNING LIGHTS. CHECK ENGINE, TIRE PRESSURE, POWER STEERING, AND ANOTHER ONE I CANNOT RECALL. TOOK IT THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY, AND WAITED 2-4HRS FOR THEM TO TELL ME, THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACING. THEY ADVISED IT WOULDN'T BE SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME, SO THEY GAVE ME A FREE RENTAL UNTIL IT CAN BE FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTI PRO CONTACT TIRES, SIZE 195/65R15. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE THREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL AND A BLACK POWDER SUBSTANCE EMITTED. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,500.
I BOUGHT A NEW 2013 HONDA ACCORD 2DR EX-L V6 OFF THE FLOOR OF THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 1, 2014. THE DEALER HAD CHANGED THE STANDARD 18 IN WHEELS TO 19'S AND THE STANDARD GOOD YEAR TIRES TO BRIVERY DGESTONE TURANZA EL 400 02'S. AFTER I HAD PUT ABOUT 3,500 MILES ON THE CAR, A SMALL STAPLE (1/16 IN DEEP) PUNCTURED ONE TIRE JUST BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE TREAD,AND THE WALL FAILED AND IT RAN FLAT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THESE TIRES. THERE WAS A GOOD YEAR TIRE WARRANTY BOOKLET IN THE GLOVE BOX BUT NO BRIDGESTONE BOOKLET FOR THE TURANZA'S. WHEN I PUT THE SPARE TIRE ON TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, I LEARNED THAT THE SPARE WAS MOUNTED ON A 17 IN RIM AND WAS NOT A LOW PROFILE TIRE LIKE THE TURANZA'S. MY COMPLAINTS ARE (1) THE 17 INCH STANDARD TIRE FOR A SPARE WHEN IT IS 2 INCHES SMALLER THAN THE OTHER TIRES AND IS NOT A LOW PROFILE. I AM WORRIED THAT IF I DRIVE VERY FAR ON THE SPARE I WILL DAMAGE RUNNING GEAR OR BREAK AN AXLE DUE TO THESE DIFFERENCES. (2) ALL THE TURANZA'S ON THE HONDA SAY THEY WERE MADE IN JAPAN AND WHEN I TRIED TO REGISTER THE TIRES ON LINE WITH BRIDGESTONE, IT ASKED FOR A CITY AND DOT. THE DOT IS EJN1JHE3612 BUT THERE IS NO CITY ON THE TIRE SO CAN'T REGISTER IT. THE BRIDGESTONE WEBSITE LISTS LOCATIONS OF MANUFACTURING PLANTS BUT NONE ARE LISTED IN JAPAN. AM I RUNNING KNOCK-OFF BRIDGESTONE TIRES? AND (3) THE TIRE FAILED AT THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE TREAD FROM A VERY SMALL STAPLE THAT BARELY STUCK TO THE RUBBER AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE WERE IT MADE TO INDUSTRY STANDARDS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT;HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WEAR ON THE TIRE TREAD OR SIDEWALL AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE TIRE HAD BEEN PATCHED PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE BEING SOLD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PATCH ON THE TIRE FAILED AND CAUSED THE BLOWOUT. I HAVE HAD 3 (OR 4) FALSE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNINGS. THE FIRST 3 TIMES THE DEALER REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN CHECK THE PRESSURE AND RESET THE LIGHT. THE LAST TIME I HAD AN ALARM I DROVE ANOTHER 25 MILES AND THEN LOOKED AT THE TIRES. I COULD SEE NOTHING WRONG SO I ASSUMED IT WAS ANOTHER FALSE ALARM. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A SATURDAY SO THE DEALER WAS CLOSED AND I CONTINUED THE TRIP WE HAD PLANNED. WHEN I FINALLY WENT TO THE DEALER, IT WAS 5 DAYS AND 300 MILES LATER, THE DEALER DID FIND A NAIL AND THE PRESSURE WAS 24 PSI. NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT HE HAS RESEARCHED THE HONDA DATA BASE AND/OR TALKED TO HONDA AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO UNTIL I BRING IT IN AGAIN WITH A FALSE ALARM. THEY WILL THEN CONNECT THE COMPUTER AND BEGIN A PROCEDURE. *TR
