2006 HYUNDAI AZERA GAS PEDAL LOST ALL POWER AT 30 MPH ON FREEWAY. VEHICLE STILL RUNNING BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE PAST 30 MPH. RESTARTED CAR, LOST POWER AT 30 MPH. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS HAPPENED ON FREEWAY HEADING AWAY FROM HOME. HAD TO TURN AROUND IN EMERGENCY TURN AROUND AND HEAD BACK HOME WITH FLASHERS ON 30 MPH ALL THE WAY HOME. ACCELERATOR CONTINUES TO LOSE POWER AT 30 MPH. LOSING POWER ON FREEWAY AND IN INTERSECTIONS IS A HORRIBLE FEELING.
WHILE DRIVING IN LA, CA WITH SPEED CONTROL SET AT 65MPH I WAS MAKING A LANE CHANGE. TO ALLOW MORE ROOM BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE FOLLOWING CAR I ACCELERATED BY STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR SPEED INCREASED AND I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO RETURN TO THE SET SPEED. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO #1 TAKE THE CAR OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND #2. TO SLOW DOWN. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AND I WAS NOW MOVING AT ABOUT 80MPH. I STEPPED WITH MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL. STILL THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AND I HAD DIFFICULTY KEEPING THE SPEED DOWN BY APPLYING THE BRAKE. I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND AS I WAS IN THE FAST LANE (LEFT) I MOVED OFF THE LANE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN LA. ON 02/03/14 WHILE DRIVING ON I15 I WANTED TO SEE IF I COULD DUPLICATE THE CONDITION. AGAIN THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK AND I HAD TO SHUT OFF THE MOTOR. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHO REPORTED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AS THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING HOME, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND ON A TEST DRIVE WITH A TECHNICIAN THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK AGAIN. I NEED YOUR HELP AND ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI AZERA LIMITED. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN HIS FOOT WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO FOUR PARKED VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED, AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING EAST BOUND ON I-90 PASSING WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I APPLIED BRAKES (TIL SMOKING) BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I CALLED FOR A TOW AND HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP. *TR
HYUNDAI HAS AN ISSUE WITH FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS WHICH CAUSES THE CAR'S ENGINE TO STUMBLE AND THEN SWITCH INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. THIS MODE ONLY ALLOWS A TOP SPEED OF 20MPH WITH VERY LITTLE ACCELERATION POWER. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN YOU ARE DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, SUCH AS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO CRASHES, AS THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. CURRENTLY, HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED TSB 09-FL-003-2, BUT WILL ONLY COVER THE REPAIR COSTS IF THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. BEING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REPLACE DEFECTIVE SENSORS. *TR
2006 HYUNDAI AZERA LIMITED WITH GEAR PROBLEMS CUSTOMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AS HER FOOT WAS TAKEN OFF THE GAS AND PUT ON THE BRAKE**NAR**CC THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AND SWITCHING INTO A DIFFERENT LANE AT ABOUT 60 OR 65 MILES AN HOUR SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. THE CONSUMER STATED ALMOST STANDING ON THE BRAKE A FEW TIMES IS WHAT FINALLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN AND THEN THE VEHICLE RAN NORMAL.*TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 5MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR AND APPLYING THE BRAKE THE PROBLEM STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED.
