MY CAR CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS GOING AROUND 30MPH, ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, SO I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED ON THE HAZARDS. THE CAR STARTED SMOKING SOON AFTER SO I LEFT THE CAR. A FEW MOMENTS LATER IT CAUGHT FIRE. I CALLED 911 AND HAD THE FIRE PUT OUT. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICES FROM HYUNDAI ABOUT MY CAR. I PURCHASED THE CAR LATE APRIL OF 2017 USED. I HAVE READ THIS ISSUE IS NOT UNCOMMON WITH THIS CAR.
CAR MAKES CLUNKING/SHAKING/RATTLING SOUND WHILE DRIVING, MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN GOING OVER 60MPH OR TURNING THE WHEEL. DOES NOT FEEL SAFE. STEERING WHEEL RATTLES IN YOUR HAND AND VIBRATES THE ENTIRE CAR.
WHILE CAR IS MOVING, THE ESC LIGHT WILL COME ON FEW MINUTES AFTER THE HEAD LIGHT IS TURNED ON. HAPPENED ON BOTH CITY/HIGHWAY, BUT MORE OFTEN ON HIGHWAY.
The contact called on behalf of her son who owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently stall and shut-off with the check engine warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed on multiple occasions to an independent mechanic who topped off the fluids however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18V934000 (Engine, Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the Vin was not included. The contact also stated that the vehicle would run hot as the temperature gauge would indicate a rise in engine temperature. Additionally, the contact stated the vehicle failed to start up after several attempts. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEEDS IN A PARKING LOT, THE ENGINE WENT TO FULL THROTTLE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PETAL AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE KEPT REEVING AT FULL SPEED. THERE WAS NEARLY A CRASH AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER SINCE THE ENGINE WOULD NOT STOP OPERATING AT FULL SPEED. IT IS NOW AT THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR REPAIR AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED 1 YEAR PRIOR AND A HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY OF THESE ISSUES REPORTED ON-LINE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS APPARENTLY TAKEN NO RESPONSIBILITY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE . PLEASE HELP US WITH RESOLVING THIS ISSUE WITH THE MANUFACTURE BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE LEFT REAR LAMP HAS FAILED SHOWING SIGNS OF BURNING. THE LAMP ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO. WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL FAILED RECENTLY I WENT TO CHANGE THE BULB AND DISCOVERED THAT'S A SOCKET SHOWED SIGNS OF BEING BURNT AGAIN.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. I HAD ONE OF THE SERVICEMAN LOOK IT UP AND HE SAID HE HAD TO ORDER THE PART. WHEN IT COMES IN HE WAS GOING TO GIVE ME A CALL. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL AND THE DEALERSHIP BEEN SHUT DOWN BECAUSE OF TITLE FRAUD. I TRIED TO GET ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO LOOK INTO IT BUT THEY ARE SAYING THEY DON'T HAVE ME IN A RECALL LIST. I BELIEVE THE FRAUD DEALERSHIP TOOK MY CAR OFF THE LIST BEFORE FIXING THE PROBLEM. I JUST WANT MY CAR FIX SO MY SON AND I CAN DRIVE SAFE.PLEASE HELP A SINGLE MOTHER!!!
Everything worked good until I had to take my car to the dealer for knock sensor, air bag check, software update, and my engine was also part of the affected engine recall... well ever since then I have had to replace my car battery a few times and now I just invested in a battery charger because now my cars battery gets drained whether or not I use it? I asked the dealer on a couple of occasions to check out why my dash and lights flicker and shut off and come back on seconds later when I turn my lights on at night? also told the service writer that I noticed this happening when I used my turn signal, because I could notice the dash lights and head beams behave erratic and most dangerously? I know I was told more than once that they could not find nothing wrong and there were no codes either? I have to disconnect my battery now because of this dangerous issue and just gets very frustrating that now I have a car that sits there in my car port more than its driven nowadays but because car prices are high I really need my car repaired so that it could work safely like it used to before. I'm afraid that my car will catch on fire because of this and just wished that Hyundai Motor Corporation would look into this matter more seriously and more importantly find a solution for this big safety mater. I just finally got tired of all this that I have to go through and still probably wont ever hear of a safety recall for this big problem...
VEHICLE ROLLOVER CRASH OCCURRED MONDAY, 1/20/2020 WHILE DRIVING APPROX 45 MPH AFTER MISSING A CURVE IN THE ROAD. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED (DRIVER, PASSENGER, NOR SIDE) NOR DID THE SEAT BELTS PROPERLY RESTRAIN OCCUPANTS (DRIVER NOR 3 PASSENGERS).
1) SEATBELT LATCH WILL UNLATCH WHILE DRIVING. 2) THE FULE LIGHT INDICATOR IS NEVER CORRECT SHOW EMPTY ALL THE TIME. WILL GO TO FULL AND BACK TO EMPTY WHILE DRIVING. 3) WHILE FUELING THE PUMP WILL JUMP OFF BEFORE SOON AS GAS STARTS GOING INTO TANK. 4) STRUTS ARE NOT WORKING ALL 4 ARE OUT AND DOWN HITTING THE ROADS HARD WHILE DRIVING. 5) PAINT IS PEELING OFF AL TH SIDES BACK PANELS WHILE DRIVING.
I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE OCT 2019. AT THAT TIME I HAD A RECALL FOR THE HARD KNOCK SENSOR AFTER THAT IT CONTINUES TO GIVE ME ISSUES. THE CHECK ENGINE COMES ON CONTINUOUSLY EVERY WEEK. I FIX ONE ISSUE THEN THE LIGHTS COMES BACK ON FOR ANOTHER. MY CAR SHAKES WHILE DRIVING LIKE ENGINE WANTS TO STOP, DOESN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE OVER 40 MILES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY STREETS IT'S NOT SAFE FOR A VEHICLE TO STOP ACCELERATING WITHOUT ANY WARNING THEIRS OTHER BYSTANDERS THAT CAN CRASH INTO ME.I CONTACTED HYNDUAI EVERY MONTH SINCE OCT URGING THEM TO DO A FULL DIAGNOSTIC CAUSE MY VEHICLE ALREADY HAS 13 RECALLS ON IT PREVIOUSLY AND I STRONGLY FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE DEFECTIVE ONES. HYNDUAI KEEPS TURNING THEIR BACK ON ME AND TELLS ME I NEED TO FIX THIS THEN THIS THEN THAT. I ALSO HAVE A FUEL SMELL AND A EVAP CODE THAT KEEPS COMING ON WHICH THIS RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED AND IF IT HAPPEND AGAIN ITS GUARANTEE TO BE FIXED AGAIN. HYNDUAI TOLD ME NO. THEY KEEP TURNING THEIR BACK ON ME. I FEAR THAT MY VEHICLE WILL CAUSE HARM TO ME AND OTHERS DUE TO THE LACK OF HYUNDAI NOT TAKING MY VEHICLE SAFETY SERIOUSLY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND MAP SENSOR WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE NOT INSPECTED. CRAIN HYUNDAI LITTLE ROCK (11701 COLONEL GLENN ROAD, LITTLE ROCK, AR 72210 (501) 604-1500) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THERE WERE NO RECALLS WAS UNDER THE VIN. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V629000 (SUSPENSION) AND 18V934000 (ENGINE, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THE FAILURES HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CONTACT NHTSA TO PLACE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 139,000. INVALID VIN.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY CAR STALLED SHUT DOWN NO WARNING TRIED TO RESTART WHEN IT DID IT STARTED KNOCKING AND SHUT RIGHT BACK OFF WOULD NOT RESTART AGAIN. CALLED HOME AND THEY CAME TO WHERE I WAS CHECKED FLUIDS ALL FLUIDS WERE FINE. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO GRANDPARENTS HOME.
CAR STALLED WHILE GETTING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY TURNED OFF STARTED IT BACKUP IT STARTED MAKING A WEIRD KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE IT SHUT RIGHT BACK OFF GOT TO EMERGENCY LANE CHECKED UNDER HOOD CHECKED FLUIDS EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE CALLED TO HAVE TOWED HOME WOULD NOT CRANK UP. NOT SURE WHERE TO GO FROM HERE, BUT FEEL LIKE THIS IS NOTHING I DID WRONG
LOUD CLUNK NOISE WILL DRIVING AND CAR WAS STUCK IN 4TH GEAR (LIMP MODE) AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. CODES P0753, P2709 AND P0758 REVEALED FAILURE OF 2 SHIFT SOLENOIDS AND LINE PRESSURE SOLENOID DUE TO TRANSMISSION WIRE HARNESS SHORTENING OUT.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON
CAR LOSES POWER STEERING AT RANDOM TIMES, BUT MOSTLY ON THE HIGHWAY. RECALL CAMPAIGNS 143 AND 097 ARE RELATED TO THE ISSUE AND WERE LOOKED AT BY THE DEALERSHIP AND "FIXED," HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A REPEAT CAMPAIGN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO BILL DUBE HYUNDAI IN WILMINGTON, MA AND THEY SAID I WOULD NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN, AND THAT IT IS NOT RELATED TO EITHER RECALL. I SPOKE WITH HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS AS WELL, AND OPENED A CASE. HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM THE SAME THING THEY TOLD ME, THAT WHAT IS HAPPENING IS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALLS. I THEN HAD MY LOCAL MECHANIC AT KING'S AUTO IN READING, MA LOOK AT THE CAR. HE BELIEVES THAT THE CAR DOES NEED MDPS ASSEMBLY 56310-3Q200-QQH. RESEARCH TELLS ME THAT IT SEEMS A LOT OF OTHER HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH LOSING THE POWER STEERING, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY VERY DANGEROUS. I BELIEVE HYUNDAI IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE ONGOING PROBLEM, AND SHOULD FIX THIS AT NO CHARGE. THANK YOU.
TAIL LIGHT WIRING HARNESS MELTS, THEN OVERHEATS BULBS AND MELTS THE TAIL LIGHT HOUSING. SIDE EFFECT WAS THAT MY HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WHEN USING A BLINKER AT NIGHT. THIS HAPPENS AT SPEED. NOT ONLY IS IT A FIRE HAZARD FROM THE WIRING MELTING / BULB OVERHEATING / MELTED TAIL LIGHT HOUSING, BUT IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD FROM THE LAKE OF HEADLIGHTS ON A TURN. HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR 2011-2013 SONATAS WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE. PAID $400 AT DEALERSHIP TO GET WIRING HARNESS AND HOUSING REPLACED, BUT IT IS ORIGINAL STOCK GEAR SO IT WILL LIKELY HAPPENA GAIN.
VEHICLE TURNED OFF A FEW MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND NOTHING. A WEEK AGO I GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH CODE P0014. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A SENSOR PROBLEM AND I BOUGHT THE PIECES AND REPLACED BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED WITH THE SAME CODES. NOW THE DEALER SAYS IT IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM AND IT MIGHT BE REPLACED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE GOT THIS CODE BEFORE WHEN THEIR ENGINE ON 2011-2012 SONATAS HAVE SEIZED OR STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALER ISN'T BEING COMPLIANT IN CHANGING OR FIXING ENGINE. I I BELIEVE THE ENGINE RECALL HAS AFFECTED MY VEHICLE AND IT PASSED INITIALLY BUT TWO YEARS LATER ONCE MY CAR IS OVER THE 65K LIMIT NOW IT IS BECOMING A PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V426000 (STEERING) OR 10V457000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000.
My passenger rear brake light will not come on after car has been in repair shop 11 times to correct issue. They have replaced the bulb, socket, light wiring harness, fuse etc. The brake light will work for a very short time after repair shop, but then go out again.

Smell of fuel & starting issues. The car has been taken to the dealer multiple times regarding gas fumes and they could not find anything. And it is currently at a mechanic shop to for same reason. When you start the car it doesnt take long before the whole car smells like gas & the smell is so strong it is suffocating. The car is health & fire risk. Also the car sometimes doesnt want to start for days but the starter, battery, alternator all work & even the mechanic doesnt know whats wrong with it. Apperantly there is no recall & if you search online there are alot of people with same cars complaining about gas smell & starting issues..
SUNGLASSES HOLDER DROPS DOWN DUE TO WEAR IN THE LATCHING MECHANISM, PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTING VISIBILITY IN REAR VIEW MIRROR. THE PROBLEM INITIALLY OCCURRED WHEN IT WAS HOT, BUT BECAME MORE FREQUENT WITH MORE WEAR. APPEARS TO BE COMMON OCCURRENCE BASED ON INTERNET QUERY.
I PARKED MY CAR AFTER COMING FROM WORK, WENT BACK OUT TO CHANGE MY BRAKE LIGHT THAT WAS OUT, AFTER I COULDN'T CHANGE MY BULB BECAUSE ITS TOASTED TO THE HARNESS, I TRIED STARTING UP MY CAR WHICH IT DID, BUT MY SHIFT LOCK WAS LOCKED ON ON PARK AND MY TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON AND I HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS.
CLICK SOUND IN STEERING THAT IS A SPUR LIKE NON METAL GEAR WHICH FRACTURES THAT HAS EXISTED IN THESE VEHICLES FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS MODELS. IS THERE A DANGER IN ANY OF THESE VEHICLES LIKE MINE THAT FREQUENTLY HAVE THIS ,STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT SOUND PROBLEM. LOUDEST WHILE STATIONARY WITH ENGINE NOT OPERATING IN MY GARAGE.

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DROVE IN A DITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OUT OF THE DITCH AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE FACE, MOUTH, CHIN, NECK, AND A BRUISED FOREHEAD. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. POLICE REPORT NUMBER: 2019-4834 WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A TWO-WAY STREET, ALL OF THE SENSOR LIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE CAME ON. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND NOW IT WON'T CRANK. THE RADIO IS WORKING, BUT THE CAR IS NOT CRANKING. ALSO, WHENEVER I PLACE MY CAR INTO PARK, I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND START IT BACK IN ORDER TO SHIFT MY GEAR INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE.
AT 1ST MY CAR MY CONSUMING A LOT OF OIL. I WAS GOING TO GET TOP OFF AT MY OIL PLACE EVERY WEEK. I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO MY NEARBY HYUNDAI, THEY TOLD ME THEY WANTED $350 TO DO A TEST. THEN MY CAR WAS NOT GASING THE WAY IT USUALLY DID. IT WAS STALLING, I HAD A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM MY ENGINE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED THE O2 SENSOR, HEATING SENSOR, PCV VALVE, HE DID A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. IT STARTED TO WORK OK, AND I WAS DRIVING WITH MY DISABLED HUSBAND AND OUR 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHEN THE CAR ENGINE WENT OUT ON US ON THE HIGHWAY. WE GOT THE CAR TOW TO OUR MECHANIC AND ITS MORE PROBLEMS THEN SOLUTIONS . ITS NOW THE CADILLAC CONVERTER, THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAVE RECEIPTS OF THE REPAIRS, TOWING AND DAILY OIL INPUTS.

CAR WAS GOING DOWN ROAD WHEN ENGINE STALLED AND WOULDN'T TURN BACK ON. SEEMS TO BE THE TYPICAL ISSUE THAT MOST 2011 SONATAS ARE HAVING WHERE THE ENGINE SEIZED. DEALER DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE DID SEIZE WHILE DRIVING. THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL TO SWAP THE ENGINE IN ALL OF THESE VEHICLES. HYUNDAI SHOULD NOT JUST BE ALLOWED TO EXTEND THEIR WARRANTY AND HOPE IT DOESNT HAPPEN TO THE OTHERS.

THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED 15 RECALLS IN THE TIME I'VE OWNED IT MOST OF WHICH ARE LIFE THREATENING SAFETY ISSUES , COMPLETE MOTOR LOCK UP , SUDDEN LOSS OF FUEL AND STALLING.(BRAKE STOPPER PAD MALFUNCTION 3 TIMES), SEAT BELT ANCHOR FAILURE, COMPLETE SAFETY AIR BAG FAILURE, EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILURE, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE LEAKS, MY WIFE AND I LIVE ON VERY LIMITED SOCIAL SECURITY MONTHLY BENEFITS AND NOT IN A POSITION TO AFFORD A NEW CAR OR REPEATEDLY HAVE TO SPEND 100'S OF DOLLARS EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR REPAIRS DUE TO MANUFACTURE ERROR / DAMAGE IN CONSTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE BEEN NEARLY KILLED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE MOTOR EITHER CEASES TO GET FUEL WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY OR ENTERING SUCH ON AN ONRAMP JUST AS A SEMI TRUCK AND TRAILER APPROACHED AT 70 MPH AND WE HAD NO FUEL ACCELERATION. THE FIRE DESTROYED MOST ALL OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, SOME AT OUR EXPENSE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AND WE HAD TO PAY $3500.00 TO REPAIR......FYI, WE LIVE ON 1700.00 PER MONTH SOCIAL SECURITY AND THIS CAUSED US A VERY EXTREME FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY FOR MONTHS THEREAFTER . THIS IS MY SON'S CAR BUT THE TITLE IS IN MY NAME. WE WENT TO DENNIS HYUNDAI FOR REPAIRS RELATED TO SEVERAL RECALLS ON THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. BEFOREHAND WE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT WAS OUT. WE ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST A BURNED OUT BULB BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE WE DECIDED TO LET THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECK IT OUT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DENNIS HYUNDAI INVESTIGATED AND STATED THAT SOCKET ON THE TAIL LIGHT APPEARED TO BE "MELTED" AND IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE TAIL LIGHT WIRING ASSEMBLY THAT HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF. THE SERVICE MANAGERS AT DENNIS HYUNDAI STATED THAT THE TAIL LIGHT WIRING ASSEMBLY WAS REDESIGNED TO FIX THE FLAW BUT THAT THE REDESIGNED TAIL LIGHT WIRING ASSEMBLY DOES NOT FIT THE OLDER MODEL HYUNDAI SONATAS SUCH AS MY 2011. DENNIS HYUNDAI WANTS TO CHARGE $311.42 TO FIX THEIR DEFECT. A SEARCH OF THE WEB SHOWS A LOT OF THESE COMPLAINTS. THE RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN AND STAYED ON AT ALL SPEEDS AND WHEN PARKED. WE HAVE COMPLETED ALL PREVIOUS RECALLS REFERENCE THE AIRBAGS AND I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS NOT A TOP RATED SAFE VEHICLE BUT IS A FLAWED VEHICLE UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED.
ENGINE BAY CAUGHT FIRE AND CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. ENGINE HAD BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY UNDER SONATA THETA ENGINE RECALL. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK IN THE ENGINE BAY. WAS ON THE WAY TO HYUNDAI DEALER WHEN THE FIRE HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN IT LOST POWER AND SMOKE STARTED SPEWING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE BAY WAS ABLAZE WITH 60 SECONDS. NO INJURIES OCCURRED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE OR ISSUE.
