RECENTLY, I STARTED TO DOCUMENT SOON AS I CAN REMEMBER THE TIME AND DATE OF THE INCIDENT BECAUSE IT CAUSED SUCH AS PANIC WHILE I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER APRIL 27, 2018, ESC MALFUNCTION INDICATOR AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON AND OFF. SINCE THEN IT'S MORE OFTEN WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. FEW TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY, CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN (LOSING POWER) AND NEED IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER TO AVOID ANY ACCIDENT. AFTER SAT AND WAITED FEW MINUTES RESTARTED THE ENGINE BOTH LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. SEPTEMBER 05 2018, ESC MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE MORNING, WENT HOME AND LEFT THE VEHICLE SITTING OVER NIGHT. ESC MALFUNCTION LIGHTS ARE DISAPPEARED. SEPTEMBER 06 2018, ESC MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF IN THE AFTERNOON. SEPTEMBER 07 2018, AROUND NOON PARKED AT HOME DRIVEWAY AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING, SUDDENLY ENGINE STALLED, HAVING DIFFICULT TO START THE ENGINE AGAIN AND ESC MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN I WAS NOT PRESSING THE BRAKE. I DISCOVERED THIS AFTER THEY STAYED ON EVEN WHILE THE CAR WAS OFF AND PARKED, AND DRAINED THE BATTERY SO THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND RUBBER STOPPER PAD.
ENGINE STALLS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND SLOW DOWN DRAMATICALLY. HAVE TAKEN TO HYUDAI TWICE, THEY SAY THE ENGINE RECALL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STALLING ONLY KNOCKING AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $104 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE WHEN CLEARLY ALL THE NEWSPAPER SAY THAT IT POSSIBLY HAS DEBRIS WHICH CAN CLOG FUEL LINES AND CAUSE STALLING, THEY SAID THIS IN NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY OR RECALL. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST THREE YEARS, BUT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. LAST TIME IS LISTED BELOW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE ACCELERATING TO 40 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE RADIO AND AIR CONDITIONING TURNED ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE AND FLAMES FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE HOOD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. **TR CONSUMER STATED MILEAGE ON THE CAR WAS 143,424. AFTER HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 132 AND 162, THE ENGINE OIL COOLER FAILED ALLOWING HOT MOTOR OIL TO MIX WITH ENGINE COOLANT. THIS IN TURN CAUSED MOST OF THE RUBBER PIPING TO BECOME DISTENDED, CAUSING THEM TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE RADIATOR SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED MORE THAN ONCE BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY IN VACATING THE MOTOR OIL FROM THE SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE'S WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE CHANGED A FEW MONTHS LATER, DUE TO IT FAILING. A PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WAS MORE THAN LIKELY DUE TO THE HOT MOTOR OIL MIXING IN THE SYSTEM, CAUSING THE SEALS ON THE WATER PUMP TO FAIL. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, AS WELL AS HYUNDAI CORPORATE, AND THEY BOTH STATED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGNS. I BELIEVE THAT THE FAILURE OF THE OIL COOLER AND WATER PUMP IS DIRECTLY CORRELATED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE, AND MY PRIVATE MECHANIC HAS STATED THE SAME. MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THESE PARTS FAILED, AND IF I CONTINUED WITHOUT PULLING OVER, IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE OR SEIZED.
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2011 SONATA SPORT. IT NOW HAS 41,634 MILES ON IT AND IS EXTREMELY WELL MAINTAINED BY ME. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ON THE DASH SHOWS A SIGN THAT THERE IS AN AIR BAG PROBLEM. WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE FRONT SEAT, THE DIGITAL WORDS SAY NO PASSENGER AIR BAG ON. DEALER SAYS IT ISN'T COVERED BY REPAIR AND THAT IT IS A COSTLY INVESTIGATION AND REPAIR. I HAVE ANOTHER NEWER SANTA FEE ALSO.THE INDICATOR COMES ON WHILE PARKED AND MOVING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALL STAR TOYOTA OF BATON ROUGE (9150 AIRLINE HWY, BATON ROUGE, LA 70815, (225) 925-2525) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DETAILS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALL STAR HYUNDAI OF BATON ROUGE (10313 AIRLINE HWY, BATON ROUGE, LA 70816, (225) 274-0071) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 11577274. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.

IN RANDOM INSTANCES, WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CAR WILL SHIFT TO PARK AND COMPLETELY PARK. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND TURNED OFF, A BEEPING ALERTS BEGINS AND THE DASHBOARD SCREEN WILL PROMPT 'SHIFT TO PARK'. THE CAR WILL NOT COMPLETELY TURN OFF , LEAVING THE BATTERY RUNNING.
MY WIFE WAS MAKING A U-TURN IN A FRIENDS DRIVEWAY WHEN FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN PROPELLING HER DOWN OVER A STEEP EMBANKMENT LANDING IN THE CREEK BELOW. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS NOT INJURED BUT THE CAR WAS DEEMED BEYOND REPAIR BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. WE NOTIFIED HYUNDAI ABOUT THIS SITUATION AND THEY GAVE US A FILE # AND REQUESTED MORE INFORMATION BY FAX OR EMAIL. SINCE EMAILING THEM WE HAVE NOT HEARD BACK AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONTACT THEM, ONLY GETTING A MESSAGE THAT THE VOICE MAIL BOX IS FULL. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY WAS HOLDING THE CAR FOR THEM SO THEY COULD INSPECT IT, OF WHICH HYUNDAI SAID THEY WANTED TO DO, BUT AFTER TEN ATTEMPTS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO REACH THE HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVES THEY CAN NO LONGER HOLD THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PRIDE HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 777 LYNNWAY, LYNN, MA 01905, (781) 592-3800) AND REPAIRED PER THE RECALL. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED INDEPENDENT ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE CONTACT DECLINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
"TAKATA RECALL" SUMMARY: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2011 SONATA VEHICLES. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT (ACU) MAY SHORT CIRCUIT, PREVENTING THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS, SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS, AND SIDE AIR BAGS FROM DEPLOYING. SAFETY RISK: IF THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS, SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS, AND SIDE AIR BAGS ARE DISABLED, THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF INJURY TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH THAT NECESSITATES DEPLOYMENT OF THESE SAFETY SYSTEMS. MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BUT NEED IT FOR WORK.
OUR CAR WAS IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE OF A 5 LANE FREEWAY WHEN IT ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST POWER AND THE GAS PEDAL DIDN'T WORK AND THEN A VERY SUDDEN, HARD JOLT IN THE CAR. I WANTED TO DOWNSHIFT, BUT THE SHIFT LEVER WENT TO PARK WITH NO EFFECT. I TURNED ON MY TURN SIGNAL TO GET TO THE SHOULDER ON THE RIGHT. I LET THE WHEELS DRAG ALONG THE ASPHALT CURB OF THE SHOULDER UNTIL I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, BY THEN, THE SMOKE WAS FILLING THE CABIN COMING THROUGH ALL OF THE AIR VENTS AND MY WIFE AND I GOT OUT AS QUICKLY AS WE COULD. IT WASN'T UNTIL THEN THAT I FOUND THAT WE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED BY A TOW TRUCK WITH ITS EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND BLOCKED THE SLOW LANE OF TRAFFIC FOR US AND WHO HAD HIS DISPATCHER CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE ENGINE IN THIS CAR HAD BEEN REPLACED IN MARCH, 2018 UNDER A RECALL FOR ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED HIS FIRE EXTINGUISHER, BUT IT HAD NO EFFECT AND HE STATED IT WOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE IT WAS A GASOLINE FIRE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED.IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE NEW ENGINE THEY HAVE TO BEND THE FUEL LINES OUT OF THE WAY AND A FUEL LINE COULD HAVE BEEN KINKED, OR WAS NEVER INSTALLED PROPERLY. NO ONE HAD DONE ANY WORK ON THE ENGINE SINCE IT WAS INSTALLED BY THE HYUNDAI DEALER. I HAVE A FIRE REPORT, BUT IT IS 8 PAGES. HIGHWAY PATROL WAS PRESENT, BUT THEY DO NOT MAKE A REPORT WHEN ONLY 1 CAR IS INVOLVED.

ENGINE OIL LIGHT KEEPS APPREARING AND THEN DISAPPEARING. OIL IS DISAPPEARING LIKE CRAZY, CAR IS STALLING ON THE ROAD. WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR
I BOUGHT A USED 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA IN MARCH FOR MY BIRTHDAY, AND ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY ANY TIME I GOT TO 60MPH OR HIGHER. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND OUT I NEEDED A NEW STEERING COUPLER. BEFORE IT GOT FIXED, MY DOME LIGHTS, AND ALL OF THE BUTTONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL (TRIP, CRUISE CONTROL) STOPPED WORKING. AFTER BEING FIXED, NONE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED THINGS WORK, BUT ALSO NOW,MY POWER LOCKS, DASH CLOCK AND HORN STOPPED WORKING. I ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER DRIVER A FEW DAYS AGO, AND DIDNT EVEN HAVE A HORN TO HONK!
TAKATA RECALL MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE NOT TURNING COMPLETELY. MY CAR IS A PUSH TO START, SO WHEN HOLDING THE BRAKE AND PUSHING THE START BUTTON THE CAR STILL HESITATES TO COME ON BUT THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD DO SO I KNOW IT'S NOT A BATTERY ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND I WAS STRANDED IN MY CAR AT WORK, AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT EVENTUALLY SWITCHES OVER AND COMES ON. I'VE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE, I'M HOPING HYUNDAI TAKES ACTION IN RESOLVING THIS MALFUNCTION.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED ON 8/21/18 ALMOST RESULTING IN COLLISION IN PARKING GARAGE WITH STATIONARY VEHICLE. ATTEMPTING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE AND LOST ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR. EPS LIGHT ON DASH IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATEE AND KNOCKING SOUND OCCURRED WHEN TRYING TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. 2011 SONATAS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED FOR EPS BOARD ISSUE BUT MINE WAS NOT COVERED. COULD BE ISSUE WITH ADDITIONAL CARS HAVING PROBLEM THAT WAS NOT IDENTIFIED IN PREVIOUS RECALL.

THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND INJURED THE CONTACT'S CHEST. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE OTHER DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES THAT ALSO REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
MY RADIO DISPLAY AND ALL SPEAKERS COMPLETELY QUICK WORKING I SEARCHED FOR MONTHS HERE AND THERE WHEN I HAD TIME I EVEN UPGRADED MY RADIO TO THE FACTORY TOUCH SCREEN RADIO AND THE DISPLAY CAME ON BUT NO SOUND AND FINALLY I TOOK THE FACTORY AMP APART AND IT HAD WATER DAMAGE I WAS NOT IN A WRECK OR ANYTHING ONLY THING I COULD THINK OF HOW IT GOT WET IS TERRIBLE PLACEMENT OF FACTORY AMP ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME IN THE TRUNK SO NOW I HAVE TO RIDE IN SILENCE OR WITH A BLUETOOTH SPEAKER BECAUSE HYUNDAI WANTED TO PUT AND ELECTRONIC IN THE WORST PLACE POSSIBLE WHERE IT IS COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO ROAD DEGREE AND IN MY CASE RAIN

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE FOLLOWING MANUFACTURER EXTENDED WARRANTY EXTENSION CAMPAIGNS: TXX3-APR 29, 2016 (ENGINE "SHORT BLOCK"), TXX7-FEB 27, 2017 (MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING (MDPS) COUPLING), AND TXXA-APR 05, 2017 (CLOCK SPRING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE MY CAR CONTINUES TO JERK LIKE I HIT SOMETHING AND THE IMMOBILIZER INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF. I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOB BUT THIS STILL HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. THE CAR JERKS VERY HARD LIKE YOU HIT A WALL.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND WANTED TO CHARGE HER FOR THE REPAIRS, CLAIMING THAT THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ALL FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS. MAINLY THE HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS BURNING OUT. SINCE I GOT THE CAR I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS NOT LIGHTING UP ON ONE SIDE, THE TAIL LIGHT WILL WORK FINE BUT ONCE I PRESS THAT BRAKE MY PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT WON'T LIGHT UP. ALSO I HAD MY PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HEAT UP AND MELT THE SOCKET AND HOUSING OF THE TAILLIGHT. ALL LIGHTS BURN OUT WAY TOO SOON LIKE THE CAR IS PROVIDING TOO MUCH JUICE AND FRYING THE BULBS.

WHEN I HIT ANY BUMPS WHILE DRIVING MY SONATA, THERE IS A LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL/COLUMN. THE STEERING WHEELING ALSO MAKES A CLICKING NOISE IF YOU TURN IT WHILE THE CAR IS STATIONARY. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING TO DEAL WITH. THIS A 2011 MODEL AND I HAVEN'T HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT OTHER THAN THIS.
ENGINE SEIZED UP WHILE DRIVING AGAIN. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO WITH THE HYUNDAI ENGINE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BUT HYUNDAI WILL NOT COVER THE ENGINE EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN 35 IN DALLAS WITH MY 6 YEAR OLD SON AND THE ENGINE SEIZED UP AND I COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE.
LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING AND THE ESC INDICATOR LIGHT RANDOMLY CAME ON ON MY DASHBOARD. LATER, AFTER I TRIED TO SHUT IT OFF BY PRESSING THE ESC BUTTON WHICH DID NOT WORK, I TRIED TO ADJUST THE VOLUME ON MY RADIO USING THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. INSTEAD OF ADJUSTING THE VOLUME DOWN IT WENT TO THE BLUETOOTH FOR MY CELL PHONE. NEXT DAY NO FURTHER ISSUES. NO WARNING/INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, CAR FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. TWO DAYS LATER ESC LIGHT CAME BACK ON. STOPPED AT THE STORE AND WHEN I CAME BACK OUT I NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON. DROVE HOME, PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND AGAIN, BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON EVEN AFTER CAR WAS OFF, LIGHTS WERE TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION AND THERE WAS NO POSSIBLE WAY FOR THEM TO REMAIN ON. HAD TO DISCONNECT MY BATTERY FOR THE NIGHT. NEXT DAY NOTICED RECALL FOR 2011 SONATAS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY STATED MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THIS IS AFTER HYUNDAI REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR ENGINE DEFECTS IN THE SAME VEHICLE. I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST AFFECTED BY THE ENGINE BLOWING OUT AND WAS REFUSED WARRANTY SERVICE. I HAD TO SUE HYUNDAI AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL THEY OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGED ENGINE FAILURES THAT THEY FINALLY HONORED MY WARRANTY AND REPLACED MY ENGINE. I WAS WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR DURING THAT PROCESS. MY POINT IS THAT HYUNDAI HAS A HISTORY, AND DOCUMENTED TRACK RECORD, OF IGNORING CUSTOMER CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS. THEY REGULARLY NEGLECT THE CONSUMER AND LEAVE US TO MAKE DUE WITH A DEFECTIVE CAR. THEY REFUSE, YET AGAIN, TO HONOR A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLE.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT. IF YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE THE ICON DISAPPEARS OFF THE HOME SCREEN AND THE VEHICLE WONT DRIVE OR GO INTO REVERSE. YOU WILL HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND THEN RESTART. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I CONTACT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY CLAIM THE ISSUE WAS FIXED PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING THE CAR AND REFUSE TO INSPECT THE CAR AND REFUSE TO REPAIR THE CAR. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO PAY I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SOMEONE HAVING TO PAY FOR A RECALL. THIS WAS AT THE HERITAGE HYUNDAI TOWSON MD
THE CAR HAS A MAJOR ELECTRICAL FLAW, I KEEP GETTING RECALL LETTERS BUT THE ONE THING NO ONE HAS MENTIONED IS THE GROUNDING. AFTER NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. I RAN A PARASITIC DRAW TEST ON THE SYSTEM. THE GROUNDS ARE NON EXISTENT. THE CAR HAS NO GOOD GROUNDS AT EVERY POINT OF GROUND THERE'S NO METAL. THEY GROUNDED THE CAR TO PAINTED SURFACES. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW THAT IS CAUSING I WOULD GUESS THE MAJORITY OF THE ISSUES IN ELECTRICAL FAILURES. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF. EVER. NO MATTER IF THE THE CAR WAS OFF OR ON. THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE BY HYUNDAI AND WHEN I CONTACTED THEM TO PLEAD WITH THEM TO PLEASE RECHECK IT THEY FLAT OUT REFUSED SAYING THE WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. I WAS LEFT WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO TRY AND DETERMINE THE ISSUE. MY CAR STARTED WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKES. I COULD SHIFT AND OUT OF PARK AND REVERSE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKES. I DROVE AROUND WITH MY BRAKES ILLUMINATED ALL THE TIME. THEN THEY JUST QUIT WORKING SINCE THE BULBS BURNT OUT WHEN THE HOUSING FOR THE BULBS MELTED. THE CAR SUFFERED THE KNOWN ENGINE FAILURE ISSUE BUT THE ELECTRICAL STARTED LONG BEFORE THIS. THE GROUNDING IS NOT SUFFICIENT. PERIOD THESE CARS ARE A MAJOR HAZARD AND SHOULD ALL BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OFF THE ELECTRICAL BULB HOLDERS THAT MELTED. I'VE INCLUDED PHOTOS OF THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK AND THE MELTED ONE. THE ONE BULB WAS SO BURNT I HAD TO BREAK IT OUT OF THE HOLDER.

THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR DID NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE OIL MAY HAVE BEEN OVERFILLED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS STATED THAT THE OIL LEAK COULD BE DUE TO AN INTERNAL LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,015.
THERE APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER, AND THE RADIO/CLOCK LIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE USED. IN ADDITION, ABOUT A MONTH AGO I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN, AND HAD THE A/C RUNNING. WHENEVER THE WINDSCREEN WIPERS WERE RUNNING, THE CAR'S ENGINE LOST POWER AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO CUT OFF. WHEN THE ELECTRICAL LOAD WAS REDUCED, THE ENGINE OPERATED NORMALLY. I HAD THE ALTERNATOR CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS FUNCTIONING FINE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE CAR SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN AND THE ENGINE LOCKED UP AND THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR CAME A LOOSE BURNING UP THE ENGINE.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, STOP AT THE STOP SIGN, AS I TRAVELED 30 FEET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION MY CAR DIED ON ME. THE CAR WOULDN'T CRANK, NO SOUND, NOTHING. I POP THE HOOD AND NOTICE THERE IS SMOKE COMING FORM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, I CHECK ALL MY FLUIDS AND THERE WAS NO ENGINE OIL PRESENT IN THE ENGINE. NO LOW OIL INDICATOR CAME ON. I JUST HAD A 60,000 MILES MAINTENANCE TO INCLUDED AN OIL CHANGE AS WELL. THE VEHICLE AS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE IT.

IN 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS INVOLVING THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA IN WHICH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AGGRESSIVELY AT SPEEDS OF 60+. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A LOUD CLICKING SOUND THAT YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL WHEN TURNING THE CORNER OR DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 35+. WHILE SITTING IDLE, IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS EVEN SLIGHTLY MOVED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL A KNOCKING/CLICKING SOUND. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20+, ANY IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY CAUSES THIS "UNSTEADINESS" IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CONTINUED KNOCKING NOISE. IN ALL CASES, IT ALMOST FEELS AS IF THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE TIRES ARE GOING TO DETACH FROM THE CAR WHILE DRIVING.
