STEERING APPEARS TO HAVE "PLAY" IN IT WHENEVER TURNING THE WHEEL TO TURN EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT
AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR IN 2018, I LEARNED THIS VEHICLE HAD MANY RECALLS. AFTER DISAGREEMENTS AND ARGUMENTS HYUNDAI, SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLED A BRAND NEW ENGINE. I WAS THEN NOTIFIED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE OTHER 'RECALLS' ON THIS VEHICLE. AFTER MORE DEBATES AND ARGUMENTS THEY CLEARED OUT ALL OF THE 'RECALLS' ON THIS VEHICLE AS IF THEY WERE FIXED, AND THEY WERE NOT FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I STILL HAVE MANY ISSUES WITH THE 'SO-CALLED' RECALLS SUCH AS AIRBAGS, DRIVER SEATBELT AND STEERING COLUMN.
BLUETOOTH WON'T ALLOW TO SAY COMMAND TO PAIR THE PHONE
THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN TURNERSVILLE NJ THEY CLAIMED THEY BUT A "NEW" ENGINE AS A REPLACEMENT OF MY RECALL BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND SO THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 3 MONTHS THEN THEY CALLED ME ON MEMORIAL WEEKEND TO PICK UP MY CAR TWO DAYS AFTER I PICKED UP MY CAR THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT BACK ON SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK THEN SERVICE DEPARTMENT WANTED TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT WHICH I REFUSED TOO. NOW LAST MONTH I GET ANOTHER RECALL FOR MY HYUNDAI 2011 SONATA WHAT IT'S GOING ON MY ENGINE LIGHT STILL GOES ON AND TO BE HONEST I'M SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAR THAT I DON'T EVEN DRIVE EVEN THOUGH I'M MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT STILL. I HATE MY CAR AND HYUNDAI CARS
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA - RECALLED 2/2018 DO TO SEATBELTS/ AIRBAG MALFUNCTIONING. STILL NO SOLUTION. CUSTOMER IS ADVISED TO KEEP DRIVING (UNSAFE) VEHICLE WHILE WAITING. HOWEVER, ALSO ADVISED TO TAKE STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP AS SOON IS THERE IS A SOLUTION.

THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE PROGRESSING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER (SEIDEL HYUNDAI, 9 PARKSIDE AVE, READING, PA 19607, (610) 775-5100) INDICATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE REPAIRS WERE UNAVAILABLE AND ON BACKORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR OVER TWO MONTHS. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V617000 (SEAT BELTS) AND 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE ENGI E FAILED RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN UNKNOWN MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CONSUMED THE OIL PREMATURELY. THE MECHANIC PLACED OIL IN THE ENGINE; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. ALSO, THE ENGINE LOST ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BENSON HYUNDAI (2550 REIDVILLE ROAD, SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA 29301, PHONE (864) 541-0029) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
I OWN A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2. 4 LITER SEDAN. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED NO ISSUES WITH ENGINE WON'T START. ON THURSDAY, 01/26/17, WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE (MILEAGE 74K) WOULD NOT START. THE SAME DAY AFTER SERVER TRY IT JUST STARED AND I TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND INSPECTION. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE STARTER IS CONNECTED USING SOME PLASTIC AND IT IS BROKEN AND I HAD REPLACE. THE COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR WOULD BE $340. I READ NUMEROUS FORUMS WHERE CONSUMERS REFERENCE STARTER MALFUNCTION. CLEARLY, THERE IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE STARTER ON THIS VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPLACE THE STARTERS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER.
THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN CLUNKING WHEN IT WAS TURNED EVEN SLIGHTLY. WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET REPAIRED, THEY COULD NOT TELL ME IF IT WAS THE STEERING SHAFT OR THE RACK AND PINION. ALSO, SHORTLY AFTER WE GOT THE CAR, THE ENGINE WENT OUT IN IT (BEFORE THE ENGINE RECALL WAS ISSUED). THE DEALERSHIP PUT IN A JUNKYARD ENGINE AND NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH IT KNOCKING. THE LEFT FRONT AXLE BOOT IS TORN AS WELL, AND THERE IS NO INDICATION HOW THIS OCCURRED. THE REAR BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP WORKING. WE CHANGE ONE AND ANOTHER GOES OUT. WE WENT AS FAR AS TO CHANGE ALL OF THE BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME AND LESS THAN A WEEK LATER ONE WAS OUT AGAIN. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL COME ON BUT IS UNABLE TO BE SET TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE CAR.
OVER THE LAST MONTH OR SO, MY CAR HAS BEEN LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTED HAPPENING RANDOMLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND I DECIDED TO TAKE INTO DEALERSHIP TO DISABLES THE ISSUE. AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE PCM. AFTER REPLACING THE PCM, I NOW HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS LOSS OF POWER EVEN WHILE DRIVING ON SIDE STREETS AND OFF HIGHWAY. I HAVE SINCE BEEN BACK TO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN NEW LONDON CT AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN ANOTHER POSSIBLE CAUSE FOR THIS ISSUE AND THAT IS THE MOTOR. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AND UPSET BC NOT ONLY DID I SPEND 1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED AND IS ACTUALLY WORSE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS THAT INDICATE A SAFETY RECALL ON MY MOTOR HOWEVER IT SEEMS AS THOUGH MY CAR IS OUTSIDE OF THE PARAMETERS THAT COVER MY MOTOR. PLEASE GET BACK TO ME WITH ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS IN GOING ABOUT RESOLVING THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
WHEN TURN STEERING WHEEL AT ALL, GET A DELAY AND THEN A CLICK OR CLUNK TYPE FEEL.
The contact owned a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the rear end of the vehicle. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle skidded and stopped. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence and parked the vehicle. The contact then sought medical assistance and was informed that she had sustained a left shoulder rotator cuff tear. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bags failed to engage and did not need to be reset. The vehicle was then taken to an auto collision mechanic where it was repaired. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The contact was thrown to the right and to the driver's side door. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was transported to the hospital by emergency units. The contact was informed by her orthopedist that her left shoulder rotator cuff tear was reinjured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer Bob Johnson Kia (3817 W Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623), where it was diagnosed that the air bags failed to engage and did not need to be reset. The vehicle was then taken to an auto collision mechanic where it was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, she smelled a burning odor. Upon parking the vehicle at her residence, the contact saw smoke coming in through the instrument panel and AC vents. The contact stated that all four doors were then locked. The contact then released the key from the ignition and unlock the doors using the key fob. The contact saw a flame coming through the AC vent just before she exited the vehicle. After exiting the vehicle, the contact saw that the front seats were on fire and there was fire underneath the hood of the vehicle. The fire department arrived at the scene but was unable to unlock the doors of the vehicle. The fire department then broke the windshield and the driver's side door window and they extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a third dealer Vision Hyundai Henrietta Rochester (2525 W Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623), then it was towed to a tow lot where it was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER (SURESKY HYUNDAI IN GOSHEN, NEW YORK) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUT AND THE SPRING HAD FALLEN DOWN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO FOR CORROSION BY THE SAME DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE OK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO (PEACOCK HYUNDAI IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BECAUSE IT HAD AFTERMARKET WHEELS. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO INSTALL THE ORIGINAL WHEELS IN ORDER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A STORAGE FACILITY AND THEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS REMAINING ON, DESPITE NOT BEING IN AN ACCIDENT.
I HAVE HAD TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WHERE MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE COMPLETELY LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS NO WARNING AND THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND MY CAR IS IMMEDIATELY DISABLED EACH TIME I CAME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO BEING HIT BY ON COMING TRAFFIC.WITH THE INCIDENT THE CAR SUDDENLY START SLOWING DOWN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED BUT ALL THE SENSORS POPPED UP I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER JUST AS IT LOST POWER AND THE CAR WOULDN'T RESTART AND I HAD IT TOWED. FEW DAYS LATER CAR STARTED AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED I BEGAN TO DRIVE IT AGAIN BUT AFTER ABOUT A WEEK I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR ATTEMPTED TO CROSS LANES AND IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER AGAIN AND I COULDN'T MOVE THE VEHICLE AT ALL I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR BEACUSE THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT WARNING
MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA HAD THE AIR BAG LIGHT COME ON. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. TO BUY THIS SENSOR YOU HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $1259.00 PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL IT. AFTER LOOKING THIS UP ON THE INTERNET, I SEE MANY HYUNDAI VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED IN A RECALL AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BEEN A PROBLEM WITH MANY VEHICLES.
THE DASHBOARD ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2011 SONATA IS CRACKED AND IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. IT IS MAINLY OVER THE AIRBAG. I HAVE READ ONLINE OTHER SONATA OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE IT. I HAVE OWNED OTHER CARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH A DASHBOARD. IT SEEMS THE HYUNDAI DASBOARDS ARE DEFECTIVE.
KNOCKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. SOUNDS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND AFTER RESEARCH, SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. NOTICE IT WHILE TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEEDS, GOING OVER BUMPS AND WHILE TURNING. MOSTLY USED FOR CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING.
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE LATCHES INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED
AIR BAG SENSOR IS ON HORN STOPPED WORKING
DASHBOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE IS CRACKED WHERE THE AIRBAG IS LOCATED. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ANY OF MY PREVIOUS CARS. A HYUNDAI SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THEY ARE SEEING THIS. CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS.
TAKATA RECALL. AS OF 6/30/2018 I HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED ON HOW HYUNDAI WILL REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. I RECIEVED A LETTER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM MONTHS AGO.
MY CAR GOES THROUGH AT LEAST 5 QUARTS OF OIL A MONTH . WHEN I GET AN OIL CHANGE IT TURNS DARK RIGHT AWAY. THERE IS NO VISUAL LEAK SEEN ON GROUND FROM VEHICAL.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS OTHER DRIVERS ALERTED HIM OF FLAMES COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE NOTIFIED AS THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. FIRE AND POLICE REPORTS WERE NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND AWAITING INSPECTION BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 157,000.
UNABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY DUE TO STEERING WHEEL PRODUCING CLICKING SOUND DUE TO FAULTY GEARBOX SHAFT SELECTOR.
AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT ON THE DASH HAS BEEN ON FOR WEEKS WHILE IN MOTION, DOES NOT TURN OFF.
MY CAR MODEL, HYUNDAI SONATA 2011, HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR ENGINE ISSUES. I CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER OF MY CAR AND MY CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE MY CAR IS NOT MAKING A CLICKING NOISE THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I TOLD THEM THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED AND I WANT THEM TO TAKE CARE OF IT. THEY REFUSED IT BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THEM THEY DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING. RECENTLY MY CAR STARTED MAKING CLICKING NOISES WHEN I TURN MY WHEEL. IT SEEMS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE. I CAN ESPECIALLY FEEL IT WHEN I GO THROUGH BUMPS. EVEN WHEN I AM STOPPED AND TURN THE WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE I CAN HEAR THE NOISE. I AM HOPING THAT WHEN I TAKE MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM AS I SAW A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AS WELL. LOOKS LIKE THE DEALERSHIP ONLY WANTS TO FIX THE SMALLER TYPE OF RECALLS AND NOT THE MAJOR PRICY ONES.
STARTER PROBLEM, AND PROBLEMS WITH STARTER MOTOR LEVER, ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING, THIS CAR THERE WERE CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH IT STARTING AND NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT THIS AND CONTINUOUS PAYING FOR DIAGNOSTIC, UNTIL NOW THE CAR STARTED AND STOPPED STOPPED WHEN BACKING AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF FLOW OF TRAFFIC, AND FEARING FOR MY LIFE, AND HYUNDAI DIAGNOSTIC MACHINES ARE NOT WORKING, CORRECTLY THEY DON'T IDENTIFY EVERYTHING WRONG, YOU HAVE TO CONTINUESLY HAVE IT PLACED ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND YOU CONTINUE TO PAY, EACH TIME
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FRONT COIL SPRINGS SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE THEN CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE ITEM LOST IN THE FIRE AND EMOTIONAL STRESS. *JS
CAR KEPT SHUTTING DOWN NOT WANTING TO START DUE TO GAS PUMP. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND WOULD START STALLING WHILE DRIVE ALMOST CRASH. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THE LIGHT FLINGER ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN SWITCH THEM WITH A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, EXTRA STEERING EFFORT WILL BE REQUIRED, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON (AND STAYED ON) WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT ON 12/13/2017. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS RELATED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND AND NECESSARY REPAIRS COMPLETED. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE ISSUE IN HYUNDAI SONATAS FOR ALL MODEL YEARS TO DATE. SEVERAL FORUMS DISCUSS THIS SAME ISSUE AND I SEE THAT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED THROUGH THE NHTSA AS WELL. THIS ISSUE INVOLVES BOTH THE AIRBAGS AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (SENSORS; PASSENGER SEAT TRACK) AND POSES A MAJOR SAFETY RISK. I WAS ALLOWED TO BRING THE CAR HOME, IN ORDER TO WEIGH MY OPTIONS. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ONCE, AND CYCLED THE CAR ON AND OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE AIRBAG DASH INDICATOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE FEELS EXORBITANT, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE MORE RELATED TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I AM NOW STUCK PAYING $1500 OR FEELING COMPLETELY UNSAFE HAVING A PASSENGER RIDE IN MY FRONT SEAT.
AFTER A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE WILL DELAY ITS ACCELERATION, AS IF IT WAS GOING TO TURN OFF, THE AFTER 3-4 SECONDS IT ACCELERATES, IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIME A DAY WHILE DRIVING.
MONTHS AGO, I RECEIVED NOTICE FROM MANUFACTURER OF SIDE AIR BAG DEFECT WITH STATEMENT THAT "NO REMEDY"YET AVAILABLE. I'VE WAITED PATIENTLY, DRIVING CAR AS SELDOM AS POSSIBLE. I AM INCREASINGLY FRUSTRATED AND GET NO ASSURANCE FROM DEALER. WHAT IS THE MANUFACTURER'S RESPONSIBILITY HERE?
VEHICLE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYS ON WHEN STARTING CAR ON 12/09/2017. PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR BLINKS. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THERE WAS NOTHING DONE TO THE CAR THAT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAGS OR ANY SENSORS.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving, the steering wheel locked, causing the vehicle to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the steering coupler. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that she needed to add 2 quarts of oil weekly. Additionally, the contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle started shuddering. The contact stated that upon attempting to reverse, the vehicle shuddered increasingly and failed to respond. The contact stated that as she turned off and restarted the vehicle, the failure ceased, and she was able to drive the vehicle. However, while driving 50 MPH, she heard abnormal knocking and whining sounds coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the contact stated while driving 45-50 MPH, she heard a clicking sound coming from the engine and the engine seized while in the middle of an intersection. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact contacted the Police Department who assisted her with pushing the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that a software update was previously completed on the vehicle under Hyundai Service Campaign Number: 953 (Engine Protection Mode). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and several cases were opened; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY CAR'S DASHBOARD LIT UP ALL AT ONCE, AND SUDDENLY MY CAR STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED REPEATEDLY TO RESTART IT AND IT WOULDN'T START. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY MECHANIC SHOP AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR'S ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS IN DISBELIEF, SO THEN HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS INDEED GOING TO NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE NOTICE WITHIN 72 HOURS, AS TO WHETHER MY CAR'S ENGINE WOULD BE REPLACED BY HYUNDAI DUE TO A RECALL THAT AFFECTED MY CAR.
I'VE REPLACED MY BOTH MY HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE FAULKNER HYUNDAI DEALER THAT THERE IS NOT AN ISSUE. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD BE REPLACING IT SO MANY TIMES, THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WITH EITHER A FUSE OR ELECTRICAL ISSUE.
WHEN CAR REACHES OVER 65 MPH OR HITS A BUMP, THERE IS A HORRIBLE TICKING NOISE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN THE CAR REACHES HIGH SPEEDS. A FEW OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW WITH HYUNDAI SONATA'S HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE CAR IN JUNE WITH 83,000 MILES ON IT , THATS WHEN THE TICKING NOISE STARTED. ITS THE WORST SOUND EVER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERABLE AFTER IT WAS RESTARTED. AFTER REACHING HER DESTINATION, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
I HAVE NOTICED A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. THE SMELL IS SO STRONG THAT I HAD TO ROLL MY WINDOWS DOWN BECAUSE I WAS STARTING TO GET DIZZY.
DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES SHOWING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT NO SOLUTION PRESENTED. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, THE WARNING LIGHT IS ENGAGED. CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY IN ACCIDENT, OR THAT THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY WHILE DRIVING.
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. CAR WAS IN MOTION IN BUSY TRAFFIC AND ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. RIGHT BEFORE STARTED HEARING NOISE UPON ACCELERATION. TOOK CAR TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC DONE, 11/29/17 NOTHING . WAS SENT ON MY WAY 12/02/17 CAR SEIZED AT BUSY INTERSECTION. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. MECHANIC STATES THE BEARINGS ARE BAD AND ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WE HAVE HAD RECALLS AND ISSUES SINCE PURCHASED DATE 03/05/15.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND AS SOON AS I GOT OFF I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE SO I LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND IT SAID THEIR IS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE FOR THAT VERY PROBLEM
THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WHEN THE OIL LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED. THE ENGINE THEN SHUT OFF, CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER AND ABSENCE OF BRAKING ASSIST, WHICH MADE THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE CAR DID START AGAIN, BUT MADE A LOUD BANGING/CLUNKING NOISE. I DROVE IT THE NEXT DAY AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN, AND THE CLUNKING BECAME LOUDER. IT APPEARS TO HAVE SPUN A BEARING JUDGING FROM THE LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND THE NOISE (OIL LEVEL CHECKS OUT FINE). THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON BUSY ROADWAY LIKE THE ONE THAT I TRAVEL TO AND FROM WORK. THIS OCCURRED WITH APPROXIMATELY 115,300 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I HAD THE RECALL 132 INSPECTION DONE ON THIS CAR AT 110,485 MILES, AND IT PASSED AT THAT TIME. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DANGEROUS FAILURE IS STILL HAPPENING AFTER THE RECALL INSPECTION IS PERFORMED. THE INSPECTION PROCEDURE MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT TO DIAGNOSE THIS ISSUE.
