ENGINE IS BAD 100,923, ENGINE SIEZED LIKE ALL THE OTHERS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE STEERING COLUMN IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I DRIVE AND OR HIT BUMPS, THERE WAS A RECALL #10V457000 OCT 2010 FOR STEERING GEAR BOX SHAFT NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY AND POSSIBLY TO BE REPLACED- THIS RECALL FALLS UNDER TEH PRODUCTION TIME OF MY CAR HOWEVER I HAD NOT PURCHASED THE CAR WHEN TEH RECALL CAME OUT SO WAS NEVER NOTIFIED AND NOW I HAVE THE PROBLEM AND AM VERY CONCERNED THAT I WILL HAVE AN ACCIDENT IF THE STERRING COLUMN FAILS- THE DEALER SAID THEY WOULD CHARGE ME$800 TO REPLACE SOME PART THAT THEY HAVE HEARD OF SAME COMPLAINTS- HYUNDAI SHOULD COVER MY CAR FOR THIS RECALL HOW DO I GET THAT TO HAPPEN
CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN, THAT GETS REALLY BAD WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND MAKES THE CAR HARD TO CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. WHEN CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP THEY ADVISED THEY BELIEVE A RECALL WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE SO MANY CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAY ITS THE RUBBER STEERING COUPLER.
THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI AND THEY STILL CHARGE TO FIX IT. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE 4 RECALLS THAT WERE OUT ON IT AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT I NEED A COUPLING. THE MAN IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE PART HYUNDAI USED IS FAULTY AND THEY HAVE MADE A REPLACEMENT THAT DOESN'T BREAK BUT THEY STILL CHARGE $300.00+ TO FIX IT. THE PART ONLY COSTS ABOUT $5. MY STEERING SHAKES INCESSANTLY AND MAKES A VERY LOUD CLICKING AND CLANKING SOUND WHILE DRIVING AND IT'S GETTING WORSE. IT'S A DANGER TO DRIVE AND IS HARD TO CONTROL BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH PLAY IN THE WHEEL. I HAVE CALLED HYUNDAI AND MADE A COMPLAINT BUT HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM YET. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY FOR THE PART HAD BEEN EXTENDED TO 100,000 MILES BUT MY PART DIDN'T BREAK UNTIL AFTER THE 100,000 MILES. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING, WHY WASN'T THIS PART OF THE RECALL SINCE IT IS ALSO A DANGER TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS?? IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT IT WAS SUBJECT TO BREAKING, I WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT IN BEFORE THE 100,000 MILES - HYUNDAI SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS AS IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ISSUE EVERY TIME I DRIVE.
AIRBAG B1382 SIDE AIRBAG FRONT PASSENGER RESISTANCE TOO HIGH
I AM A OWNER OF A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA AND MY FUEL GAGE FLUCTUATES SHOWING AT TIMES I HAVE GAS AND OTHER TIMES THAT I HAVE NO GAS. MY FUEL TANK ONLY LETS ME PUT IN NO MORE THAN $10 AT ANY TIME. I DO NOT KNOW ANY OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL TO COMPARE THIS TO.
AT NIGHT TIME WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS ARE ON THEY WILL FLICK ON AND OFF WHEN I USE MY TURN SIGNALS, WHEN I TURN ON MY BRIGHTS AND SOMETIMES WHEN I MOVE BETWEEN PARK AND DRIVE/REVERSE. SOMETIMES IT'LL DO IT A LOT AND OTHER TIMES NOT SO MUCH. IT IS A 2011 WITH 114,000 MILES AND ONLY STARTED IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. I WONDER IF THIS IS WHAT'S CAUSING MY BATTERY TO DIE QUICKER? SINCE I'VE REPLACED IT TWICE IN THE LAST 4 YEARS I'VE HAD IT.
I NO LONGER HAVE FOG LIGHTS THAT ENTIRE AREA HAS MELTED. MY TAIL LIGHTS GO OUT EVERY TWO OR 3 WEEKS AND THE BULBS ARE BLACK. THERE IS A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN OR PARKED ON. THE AC LINE THAT SHOULD BE COLD IS HOT. RECENTLY THE CAR WAS LEAKING OIL AND SMOKING THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ENGINE RECALL. MY ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING IN 2016 AND I HAD TO GET A ENGINE REPLACEMENT. AFTER THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT MY TURBO WENT OUT WHICH ONLY ALLOWED THE CAR TO DRIVE SLOW AND THE ENGINE SOUNDED THE WHOLE TIME DRIVING. IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHEN THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ILLUMINATION. THE CONTACT HAD TO ACTIVATE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN ORDER TO SEE THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM SCREWS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
Oil consumption excessive. I've been doing my monthly and annual maintenance engine ticks. I've added oil every 2 weeks every 200 miles.
AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT PASSENGER SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR UPWARDS OF $900. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS CRITICAL PART OF SAFETY SYSTEMS. HYUNDAI DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THESE SAFETY SYSTEMS.
DEC 29,2016 VEHICLE ENGINE COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON RURAL HIGHWAY. ALL LIGHTS CAME ON AT ONCE AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT TO AN INTERSECTION AND PULL OVER. TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE. INITIALLY DIAGNOSED AS BURNT OUT STARTER, HOWEVER, ONCE REPLACED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT WAS SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MYRTLE BEACH HYUNDAI ON JAN 3RD WHERE IT WILL BE TESTED. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO THE HYUNDAI RECALL REGARDING DEFECTIVE ENGINES WITH METAL SHAVINGS ALTHOUGH I HAD JUST HAD THE RECALL TESTS DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON DEC 16TH. I HAVE HAD A SERIES OF ISSUES WITH THE TURBO EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THIS NEW CAR WITH SERVICE RECORDS AT DEALERSHIPS IN BURLINGTON, NC AS WELL AS IN SHREWSBURY, NJ AND N. MYRTLE BEACH. ALL RECEIPTS ARE IN THE VEHICLE RIGHT NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT I CAN UPLOAD AT A FUTURE TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO RESPOND AND THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. WHILE PUTTING MY CAR IN DRIVE AND IN PARK, THERE IS RESISTANCE IN SHIFTING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I SHIFT MY TRANSMISSION FROM PARK, TO DRIVE AND FROM DRIVE TO PARK, THIS ISSUE OCCURS. I CONTACTED MY DEALER TO GET THIS REPAIRED, AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT WILL COST BETWEEN $500-$700 TO REPAIR. THIS IS MY SOLE VEHICLE THAT I DEPEND ON TO TAKE ME TO AND FROM WORK, SO I HAVE TO GET IT REPAIRED FOR MY SAFETY EVEN THOUGH IT WILL CREATE A FINANCIAL BURDEN.
THE STEERING ON MY CAR IS MAKING NOISE. THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND WHEN I TURN OR WHEN I GO OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR A POT HOLE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING COUPLING PROBABLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, TO GO TO HYUNDAI THAT THERE IS A RECALL. HYUNDAI TOLD ME IT'S ONLY A SERVICE BULLETIN NOT A RECALL. BOTH SEEM TO AGREE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED OR I COULD LOSE MY ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR AT ANY POINT WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO RECALL 10V426000 BUT I DON'T THINK MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN FM 2410 IN HARKER HEIGHTS, TEXAS GOING ABOUT 50 MILES AN HOUR THE SPEED LIMIT. CAME UPON A CURVE AND STARTED TO APPLY MY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. AS I WAS APPLYING MY BRAKES I HEARD A SCRAPPING SOUND AND THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED NOT TO BE FUNCTIONING AS REQUIRED. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP (AS EVIDENCE LOOKING AT THE SKID MARKS SOME 15 TO 20 FEET LONG) THE CAR SEEMED TO BE ACCELERATING INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. AT THE SAME TIME, I WAS TRYING TO TAKE MY FOOT OF THE BREAK AND TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO REGAIN TOTAL CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE CAR TURN SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AS SHOWN BY THE SKID MARKS WENT OFF THE ROAD THRU THE DITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THRU A FIELD FENCE WITH BARB WIRE ON TOP AND INTO A CEDAR TREE AS SHOWN IN THE ENCLOSED PICTURES. *TR
BROUGHT MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA TO JACKSON FIRESTONE BRYANT AUTOMOTIVE IN JACKSON, NJ TO SERVICE BRAKES. THE OWNER/TECHNICIAN OF THE SERVICE CENTER SAID HE OBSERVED A CLICK IN THE STEERING WHEN HE DROVE IT INTO THE SERVICE CENTER GARAGE. HE INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT "COUPLER" WAS NOT FASTENED OR TIGHTENED AS NECESSARY. HE WARNED ME (THE OWNER) THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR. HE PROCEEDED TO FIX THE BREAKS AND OFFERED TO REPAIR THE STEERING ISSUE BUT SUGGESTED I BRING IT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. I BROUGHT THE SONATA TO FREEHOLD, NJ HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. I HAD THE STEERING FIXED AT FREEHOLD HYUNDAI AND WAS CHARGED $390.00.
FRACTURE OF BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS IN SUSPENSION. RESULTING IN DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH COILS COULD HAVE RUPTURED TIRES RESULTING IN DANGEROUS SITUATION. I RECOGNIZED ISSUE EARLY AND HAD BOTH FRONT COILS REPLACED AND SWAY BAR LINKS REPLACED AS WELL. I SEE THAT EARLIER SONATA MODELS FROM MY SAME YEAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS CONCERN. I BROUGHT THIS TO ATTENTION TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER - THEY STATED MY VIN SHOWED NO RECALL. OBVIOUSLY, RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY MODEL (MADE IN NOV 2010 IN ALABAMA). *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOOSE AND WHEN I TRY TO TURN THE CAR ACTS AS IF YOUR ON ICE OR LIKE I'M LOOSING CONTROL OF STEERING THE VEHICLE, I WAS ADVISED BY DISCOUNT TIRE THAT THE FROM SUSPENSION ISSUE ARE CAUSING MY INNER TIRES TO WEAR AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS ONLY TRYING TO SALE ME TIRES FOR $600 AND DID NOT MENTION ANY ISSUES WITH THE INNER TIRE ON THAT THE TREAD WAS A LITTLE LOW. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SURFACE STREETS WHEN THE STEERING PROBLEMS OCCUR. *TR
MY 2011 SONATA HAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI OF BOWIE ( MARYLAND ) THAT IT IS A PLASTIC/RUBBER BUSHING IN THE STEERING AND WOULD BE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE. THEY ACTUALLY HAVE OLD ONES SITTING AT THE SERVICE DESK TO SHOW CUSTOMERS, AS IT IS SO COMMON. THE DEALERSHIP THEMSELVES SAID HYUNDAI USED A POOR MATERIAL AND IT IS DEGRADING AWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS THE STEERING WILL JUST GET WORSE AND WORSE UNTIL CONTROL OF THE STEERING WILL BE GREATLY EFFECTED. MY SONATA HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES AND HAS NOW HAD MORE RECALLS DONE ON IT THAN OIL CHANGES. WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL, WHILE STOPPED OR LOW SPEED, THERE IS NO REACTION BY THE STEERING, AND ONLY A CLUNK. ONCE THIS PIECE FAILS COMPLETELY, STEERING WILL BE GREATLY EFFECTED.
ACCESSORY POWER REMAINS ON IN PARK
THE MORNING OF DECEMBER 22,2016 ABOUT 7:30 AM HEADED TO WORK, SUDDENLY I HEAR SOMETHING SOUNDING LIKE A GUN SHOT NEAR MY HEAD!! MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED!! SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME!! I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45-55 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. I DON'T KNOW HOW I DID NOT WRECK MY CAR!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE SUNROOF BUSTED OUT. GLASS WENT ALL UNSIDE THE VEHICLE WHILE I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. I ALMOST WRECKED THE VEHICLE AND THE GLASS SCRATCHED UP THE PAINT SOURROUNDING THE VEHICLE AND THE TRUNK.
I WAS DRIVING AND ALL LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ON DASHBOARD, STEERING WHEEL JERKED AND I LOST POWER STEERING, WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP. *TR
CAR STATIONARY IN GARAGE WHILE I WAS CHECKING OIL. HOOD SUPPORT STRUTS ABRUPTLY COLLAPSED, CAUSING HOOD TO FALL RAPIDLY, HITTING ME ON THE ARM. (FORTUNATELY, ONLY ABRASION AND BRUISE). STRUTS WILL NOW NO LONGER SUPPORT THE HOOD.
DEALER WAS CHANGING OIL ON CAR AND TOLD ME THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH STEERING COUPLER. THEY CALMED IT WAS CAN BE DANGEROUS IF NOT FIXED. I AM EXPECTED TO PAY AS THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL FOR THIS. MANY, MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. WHY IS THERE NOT A SAFETY RECALL?
THIS CAR JUST RUN 57000 MAILS, THE POWER STEERING GOT "CLICK NOISE". HYUNDAI DEALER ASK $340 TO FIX IT, SAID IT IS "STEERING COUPLER" PROBLEM, A PIECE OF RUBBER PART DEFECTIVE. I SAW THERE BUNCH OF COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS, SAID MORE THAN 1800, WE THINK HYUNDAI SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM TO FIX THEIR FAULT.
WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION, IT MAKES A THUD WITH EACH TURN. HAPPENS ON ALL OCCASIONS. AFTER CHECKING COMPLAINTS, I NOTED THE SAME COMPLAINT WAS MADE ON 12/06/2016 AND 12/07/2016. PLEASE TAKE THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY AND NOTIFY MANUFACTURER.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT A HIGH PRESSURE OIL LINE LEADING TO THE TURBO CHARGER FRACTURED, WHICH CAUSED OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,678. ...UPDATED 06/13/17 *BF *AS
MY ENGINE IS GOING TO FREEZE IT HAS NO POWER AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IT ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT. I SPENT ALL OF MY MONEY ON THAT CAR AND IT HAS A SALVAGE TITLE, SO I CANT SELL IT ORTRADE IT IN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL AND THEY SAID IT DIDNT FALL UNDER THAT RECALL SO I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER THEY SAID THE SAME THING!, I WANT MY CAR FIXED!!!!! IM A SINGLE MOTHER AND IM HOMELESS AT THE MOMENT SO I REALLY NEED MY CAR!!!!

MY SONATA COULD HAVE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED ME AND EVERY PASSENGER THAT SAT IN IT. IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS I HAD TO REPLACE A HEADLIGHT AND A TAILIGHT ALREADY AND THE A/C WOULD HAVE TO BE VACUUMED AND RECHARGED WHICH WAS ABOUT A $250 JOB. FIXED. IN SEPTEMBER I NOTICED MY STEERING COLUMN WOULD MAKE AN AWFUL RACKET WHEN DRIVING OVER NEARLY ANYTHING ON THE ROAD. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I DISCOVERED THERE WERE SIX OPEN RECALLS DATING BACK TO AT LEAST 2014. THESE RANGED FROM FAULTY DOOR HANDLES TO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL THAT COULD CAUSE STALLING AND/OR DANGEROUS SUDDEN SHUTTING OFF OF THE VEHICLE. OCTOBER 5TH I TOOK THE CAR TO CRAIN HYUNDAI OF BENTONVILLE, IN BENTONVILLE, AR. AFTER 5 HOURS, THEY SAID I WAS GOOD TO GO ON THE RECALLS AND AFTER $300 THE COUPLER WAS FIXED. FAST FORWARD TO DECEMBER 2ND, 2016. EARLIER IN THE DAY, WHILE DRIVING, I NOTICED MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS GETTING LIGHTER AND DARKER. AT ABOUT 6PM THAT EVENING MY BOYFRIEND NOTICED THE CAR MAKING A "KNOCKING" NOISE SO HE PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE OIL AND WAITED AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE SOMEONE COULD BRING HIM SOME, GIVING THE CAR PLENTY OF TIME TO COOL AND BE GOOD TO GO. HE GOT GOING DOWN THE ROAD ONLY AT ABOUT 25MPH AND GOT ABOUT 500 YARDS WHEN THE CAR MADE A "WHOOSH" SOUND AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. HE COASTED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND MINUTES LATER THE CAR WAS IN FLAMES. AFTER UNLOADING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, IT TOOK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CUTTING OPEN THE TRUNK TO COMPLETELY DROWN OUT THE FIRE. IT IS NOW FEBRUARY 26TH, 2017, I CALLED HYUNDAI CLAIMS ON DECEMBER 3RD AND HAVE BEEN WAITING ON THE RESULTS OF THEIR INVESTIGATION SINCE. STEERING WHEEL IN 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA STARTED CLICKING WHEN TURNED SIDE TO SIDE. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A PLASTIC POWER STEERING COUPLER/BUSHING THAT NEEDED REPLACING. IF BROKEN/WORN DOWN ENOUGH, THE STEERING COULD SEIZE UP. ACCORDING TO SOME YOUTUBE VIEWS, THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM. PART IS ONLY A COUPLE OF DOLLARS, BUT LABOR IS SEVERAL HUNDRED. NOT SURE WHY THEY USED PLASTIC, AND WHY NO RECALL, AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS COMING ON AND PASSENGER SEAT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ITS SENSING A PERSON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
ON NOVEMBER 29, 2016, WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AT WEST CHESTER PIKE IN WEST CHESTER, PA. I NOTICED A FLASH AND SPARK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ONE MORE BLINK AND A STREAM OF FIRE SHOT ACROSS THE TOP OF THE HOOD OF THE CAR. WITHIN IN MINUTES, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES GIVING ME SECONDS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. WHILE TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED, THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED TO DISTINGUISH THE FIRE WHILE ATTENDING TO ME ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS PART OF A NATIONWIDE RECALL AND WAS REPLACED "NEW" ON JUNE 10, 2016 WHICH I SATISFIED INCLUDING THE EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY THAT WAS ISSUED TO ME AFTER GETTING IT REPLACED.

HYUNDAI CHOSE TO USE A PLASTIC BUSHING IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT HAS COMPLETELY FAILED AT 65000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIPS, 2 SEPARATE ONES, STATE THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE MULTIPLE OTHER RECALLS WITH THE STEERING. THE BUSHING IS HARD PLASTIC, ABOUT THE SIZE OF A NICKEL AND COSTS 2.00 AT THE DEALERSHIP. BUT THEY WANT 300.00 LABOR TO INSTALL IT

THERE IS A CLICKING AND RATTLING GOING WHEN TURNING (OR WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP OR DRIVING ON ANY UNEVEN ROAD). THERE IS ALSO A SLIGHT PULL FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AT CERTAIN DEGREES OF ITS ROTATION, AND THE ALIGNMENT IS ALWAYS OFF (EVEN AFTER HAVING IT REALIGNED). THIS IS DEFINITELY A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY MY PERSONAL MECHANIC AND A MECHANIC AT HYUNDAI THAT IT ORIGINATES WITH THE STEERING COUPLER. I HAVE DONE QUITE A BIT OF ONLINE RESEARCH AND EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE FOUND SHOWS THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL/YEAR. THE PART SHOWS TO BE NO MORE THAN $5 BUT, TO GET THE PART REPLACED I HAVE BEEN QUOTED BY HYUNDAI A PRICE OF ALMOST $500. HOWEVER, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ISSUED YET? THE STEERING COLUM IS LOSS, IT POPS WHEN IT TUNS AND JERKS
MY INSIDE LIGHTS SEEM TO HAVE SOME SORT OF DEFECT. THEY HAVE STOPPED WORKING SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE TO TAKE THE COVERS OFF AND MOVE THE BULB AROUND TO GET IT TO WORK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A YARD AND THEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TURNING STEERING WHEEL A FEW DEGREES LEFT OR RIGHT OF CENTER PRODUCED A KNOCKING, CLICKING AND SOME PLAY. ALSO, STEERING WOULD RATTLE LOUDLY WHEN DRIVING OVER ROUGH SURFACE SUCH AS GRAVEL DRIVEWAY. DEALER REPAIR DETERMINED IT WAS THE STEERING COUPLER ALLOWING BOTH SHAFTS TO BECOME LOOSE. HAD THIS REPAIRED AND SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER TOLD ME I SHOUD NOW HAVE A SAFE CAR? 8 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, MILEAGE OF 41,740. I FEEL LOSE OF STEERING CONTROL IS A SAFETY HAZARD.
