TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE THAT ORIGINATED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
CAR LOSSES POWER IN THE HIGHWAY UNDER 55 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN STARTING FROM STOP OR YIELD IT DOES NOT TAKE ACCELERATION AND ALMOST DIES . ALMOST GOT IN ACCCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES AS THE CAR DOESNT WANT TAKE GAS. MORE LIKE A SUDEN STOP IN A TRAFIC.. AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK AND IS NOT THE BULBS. THIS IS BECOMING ALMOST EVERYDAY PROBLEM AND DEALER DONT HAVE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM BUT I WAS TOLD IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL. PLS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
WHEN I HIT A BUMP THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START TO SHIMMY, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY, ALMOST TO THE POINT OF LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STATIONARY, THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD NOISE AS IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED UNDER A MANUFACTURERS RECALL BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE STALLS UPON PICKING UP SPEED. DEALER CLAIMS THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND HYUNDAI MOTOR WILL NOT FURTHER INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE FOR WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL. DEALER ONLY AGREED TO EXTEND WARRANTY TO 120K MILES FROM 100K.
MY BRAKES HAS JUST STARTED MAKING A LOUD, ANNOYING, AND CRACKING NOISE EVERY TIME I PRESS AND RELEASE MY BRAKES. I DO NOT NEED BRAKE PADS, SHOES OR ROTARIES. WHAT!!!!!

MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF A RECALL THAT I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF. I THINK IT WAS CAMPAIGN 132 OR 136. BY THE WAY, CAMPAIGN 143 IS ALSO ON THE HORIZON. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THEY ARE GOING TO FIX THE CAR WITH NO CHARGE BUT I AM OUT OF WORK WITH NO CAR BECAUSE THEY ONLY RENT CARS THROUGH ENTERPRISE. I CANNOT RENT THROUGH ENTERPRISE AND THEY ARE IN NO WAY TRYING TO HELP ME. I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AND IT IS NOT MY FAULT AT ALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V190000(STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
RECALL - NHTSA 15V-568 - ENGINE RECALL - ENGINE COULD SEIZE UP AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. ON 6-22-2016 HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP INSPECTED ENGINE AND STATED NO ISSUES AT THIS TIME.I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY WITH TWO TODDLERS. THANK YOU RECALL - STEERING - LOSS OF POWER STEERING COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. HYUNDAI DEALER STATED NO CURRENT FIX IS AVAILABLE YET FROM HYUNDAI AS OF 6-22-2016 WHEN MY VEHICLE AS GETTING CHECKED FOR THE ENGINE RECALL AND THE BRAKE PAD RECALL WAS DONE AT THE SAME TIME. WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI SERVICE TECH THAT I NEEDED A STEERING COUPLER AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WAS IT COVERED AS PART OF THE EXISTING STEERING RECALL.THIS COMES AT AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF APPROX. $500.00. THE STEERING WHEEL CLICKS AND FEELS LIKE IT IS STICKING WHEN TURNING IT. CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT HAPPENED AND I HAVE NOT TRIED IT WHEN SITTING STATIONARY. WAS ALSO TOLD COULD LOSE ALL STEERING. I THINK WE NEED A RECALL.
EVERY TIME I GO OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, A RATTLE COMES FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THERE IS PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I GO TO TURN THE WHEEL. I HAD A PROFESSIONAL LOOK AT THIS AND HE TELLS ME THE STERRING COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON MANY OTHER 2011 THROUGH 2014 SONATAS. IT IS GOING TO COST OVER $300 TO GET IT FIXED. GIVEN THE MANY ISSUES WITH THIS PART, IT APPEARS TO BE DEFECTIVE. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON ANY STREET, A RATTLE COMES FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN I GO OVER THE SMALLEST BUMP.

MY AIR BAG LIGHT WONT GO OFF. MANY PEOPLE ON LINE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS A RECALL. IT STAYS ON THE DASHBOARD. MANYCAR OWNERS OF SONATA ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS.
CAR STARTED MAKING A METALLIC CLICKING NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THEN STALLED WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS SHOT. APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO NHTSA 15V568.
MY 2011 SONATA ALL OF THE SUDDEN SHUT DOWN AROUND 1 MONTHS AGO . I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TURN IT ON . THEY KEPT ON CHANGING PARTS BUT UNABLE TO MAKE IT TURN ON. IM VERY STRESSED OUT I HAVE TI MAKE PAYMENTS ON A CAR THAT WONT TURN ON .
DID SOME RESEARCH AND FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS 2.4L IS AFFECTED BY THE "STARTER LEVER" RECALL. I WENT TO TURN MY CAR ON THE OTHER DAY AND IT WOULDN'T TURN ON AND JUST MADE A HISSING SOUND AS I TURNED THE KEY. WENT TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE TO HAVE MY STARTER TESTED AND IT FAILED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC RIGHT AWAY. I NEED MY STARTED FIXED AND REPLACED SO MY CAR DOESN'T DIE ON THE FREEWAY! HAD TO TURN MY KEY AND TRY START THE CAR AT LEAST 10 TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD CRANK OVER.
THE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY FROM 2-3 MONTHS AND I STARTED NOTICING IT BY EARLY JUNE 2016. WHEN GAS IS FILLED, IT DISPLAYS THE FULL TANK GAUGE. BUT AFTER STOPPING AT ANY PLACE AND THEN STARTING THE CAR, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS BY FEW BARS TO HALF A TANK. NEXT MORNING WHEN I START MY CAR TO GO TO OFFICE IT WOULD SHOW EMPTY TANK WITH GAS LIGHT ON BUT WILL CORRECT ITSELF TO FEW BARS TO HALF A TANK TO FULL TANK. I HAD VISITED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ON OCT 12 2016 AND THEY SAID ITS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 62 DAYS AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES ONLY COVERS ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. THEY ALSO SAID IT WILL COST 750 PLUS $ TO REPLACE THE "FULE PUMP" TO FIX THIS ISSUES. TO AVOID ANY EMPTY GAS SITUATION I ALWAYS REST MY TRIP B TO ZERO, AFTER FULL TANK.
THERE IS A CLICKING/THUMPING NOISE WHEN I TURN MY STEERING WHEEL. FEELS LIKE THE WHEEL IS GOING OVER A BUMP. THIS IS HEARD MORE WHEN THE WHEEL IS BEING TURNED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. MY VEHICLE HAS 41,066 MILES ON IT. YOU CAN HEAR/FEEL THE NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE READ SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON MESSAGE BOARDS WHICH DESCRIBE THIS FAILURE AS THE STEERING COUPLING.
ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFTER SENSOR WOULD NOT ALWAYS WORK SO IT WOULDN'T ALWAYS SHIFT OR WOULD JERK.
WITH MOTOR RUNNING, STEERING "CLUNKS" WHEN WHEEL TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION. MOST PRONOUNCED WHEN STOPPED OR AT LOW SPEEDS. CONSTANT, NOT INTERMITANT. MY GUESS WOULD BE THAT THE BEARINGS IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE ARE SHOT. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 58,800.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON SOMEHOW AND NEVER GOES OFF. I HAVE HAD ANY ACCIDENTS BEFORE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS THE AIRBAG MAY FAIL TO WORK WHEN A ACCIDENT HAPPENS.
STEERING COLUMN MAKES CLICKING NOISE WHEN WHEEL TURNS. MALLOY SERVICE SAYS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL. PLASTIC COUPLER IS FAULTY. COST TO REPAIR $350. CAR HAS UNDER 50K MILES.
"TAKATA RECALL". THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER STARTING CAR. TOOK THE CAR TO JENKINS HYUNDAI OF LEESBURG FL. AFTER ABOUT 35-45 MINUTES LATER THE SERVICE MAN CAME BACK AND SAID THE PROBLEM IS A CLOCK SPRING THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD COST US $350 TO FIX IT. HE SAID THAT IF IT IS NOT FIXED THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY DURING A CRASH. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A PART THAT IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE. HYUNDAI HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH AIRBAGS OVER THE YEARS. TAKATA AIRBAGS HAVE CAUSED MANY INJURIES AND DEATHS BECAUSE OF DEFECTS. WHY HYUNDAI EVEN USES TAKATA AIRBAGS IS BEYOND ME (UNLESS THEY MANUFACTURE THEM). I AM NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION TO FIX THE PROBLEM RIGHT NOW OR BUY ANOTHER CAR. IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND I AM IN A CRASH, I MIGHT NOT SURVIVE BECAUSE OF HYUNDAI'S REFUSAL TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING A PART THAT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY DEFECTIVE WHEN THE CAR WAS BUILT. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I CAN BELIEVE IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE PART, THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. PLEASE EXPEDITE THIS COMPLAINT AS I AM NOW DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT I FEEL IS UNSAFE.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER (HYUNDAI OF DURHAM IN DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA) AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
STEERING WHEEL FLAWS, WHEN TURNING TO LEFT YOU WILL HEAR A NOISE AND PULL. GOING OVER BUMPS OR ANY TYPE OF SURFACE THAT IS NOT FLAT ROAD HEAR A VERY NOTICEABLE CLANGING NOISE. STEERING WHEEL RATTLES AT SPEEDS OVER 55 MPH. LIKE OTHER NOTIFICATIONS HERE, THE DEALERSHIP STATES THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BUT WANTS TO CHARGE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS WELL MAINTAINED.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN OFF WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNAL OR TURNING ON THE HIGH BEAMS, I HAVE TO WIGGLE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON. I HAVE SENT HYUNDAI AN EMAIL CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE, BUT OF COURSE THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSE FROM HYUNDAI. WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL.
RUBBER STEERING COUPLING. POOR DESIGN USING A CHEAP PART WHICH WILL NOT HOLD UP. IT WILL BREAK AND IMPAIR STEERING ABILITY. PART COST $12. LABOR $380.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE MECHANIC. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN ENGINE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
FORK IN STATER MOTOR THAT MOVES THE PINION GEAR GEAR TO ENGAGE SNAPPED. HYUNDAI HAS A TSB AND THIS IS A COMMON REPORT ON THE INTERNET. BELIEVE USING PLASTIC FOR THIS PART WAS A POOR DECISION GUARANTEEING FAILURE.
VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL HAS DEVELOPED A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNED TO RIGHT OR LEFT WHEN PARKED. ALSO HAS A HARD CLUNKING BANG IN ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL WHEN A BUMP IS ENCOUNTERED. STEERING IS ALSO UNRESPONSIVE AT HIGHER SPEEDS WHEN WHEEL IS INITIALLY USED TO CORRECT LANE USAGE ON HIGHWAYS. CONSTANTLY CONCERNED STEERING FAILURE IS IMMINENT. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 39000 MILES AND OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION. NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BUT NOT AT OWNERS COST. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. DATE OF MANUFACTURE 4/05/11. *TR
THE STEERING COLUMN INSIDE THE CAB RATTLES EACH TIME I HIT A BUMP OR HOLE IN THE ROAD. I HAVE 77,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE NOW, BUT I STARTED TO NOTICE A SUTTLE NOISE ABOUT 15,000 MILES PRIOR TO WHAT IS NOW A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. DRIVING INTO MY GARAGE TO PARK THE VEHICLE, I HEARD A LOUD SNAP AS I WAS TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE PARTS FALLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I PULLED FORWARD FAR ENOUGH TO CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR AND THERE MY CAR SITS. GUESS I'M LUCKY I WASN'T AT 3,000 FT LEVEL LIKE I WAS THE DAY BEFORE WHEN THE STEERING DECIDED TO BREAK APART. APPARENTLY, AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN, THE STEERING COUPLING IS DEFECTIVE AND MAY SEPARATE AND LEAVE THE DRIVER WITH NO MEANS TO STEER THE VEHICLE. NO RECALL FROM HYUNDAI EVEN THOUGH MANY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS NOTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET. MY STEERING COUPLING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT BECAUSE I HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES HYUNDAI IS REFUSING TO REPLACE IT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I WAS AT 70,000 MILES WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND NO ONE SAID THAT IT COULD BE THE STEERING COUPLING. MY HYUNDAI STARTED WITH A CLICKING WHEN I WOULD HIT ANY BUMPS BUT THEN STARTED MAKING MORE LOAD NOISES WHEN I WOULD TURN THE WHEEL. THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STARTED RAPIDLY SHAKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 50. IT IS A DRIVING HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE ON FEBRUARY 16, 2016 AND STATES THAT THE RECALL IS CLOSED; HOWEVER, ON JUNE 2, 2016 TO PRESENT IS HAS BEEN NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE IS EXHIBITING ISSUES AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THIS BEGAN SOME TIME AGO, PERHAPS 4 MONTHS, AND HAS JUST GOTTEN WORSE. I TOOK IT IN TO A CERTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND REVIEW FOR RECALLS. WELL, AFTER HAVING TO PAY THEM $100.00 WITHOUT PREVIOUSLY HAVING AGREED TO, THEY TELL ME THE PART COSTS ABOUT $3.00, BUT WITH LABOR WOULD TOTAL $310.00!!!! THIS SHOULD FALL UNDER A RECALL. I HAVE SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE POST ONLINE ABOUT THE ISSUE. I SEE WHERE SOME PEOPLE GOT IT FIXED FOR FREE, AND OTHERS WHO HAD TO PAY! I NOTICED A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. I ALSO FELT LIKE THE FRONT TIRES AND STEERING WERE VERY LOOSE. DRIVING OVER BUMPS OR POT HOLES THE WHEELS FELT LIKE THEY WERE SHAKING EVEN THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HELD TIGHT AND NOT MOVING. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMON COMPLAINT DUE TO A POWER STEERING COUPLING GOING BAD. SONATA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 14-ST-002-1 REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ATTACHED THE TSB. THE PROBLEM BECAME NOTICEABLE 5 YEARS AND 1 MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE TSB SAYS THERE ARE "NO STEERING PERFORMANCE ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CONDITION". I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT. THE DEGRADED COUPLE INTRODUCED PLAY OR WIGGLE ROOM IN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT TIRES. WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED, YOU CAN ROCK THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH TO HEAR THE CLUNKING NOISE. WHEN THIS IS DONE, YOU CAN TELL THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVING FURTHER THAN IT SHOULD WITHOUT THE WHEELS MOVING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MY FRONT WHEELS WERE LOOSE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY MUCH A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. DURING MY LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER TO FIX OTHER RECALLS, I PAID THE $275 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER OBVIOUSLY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AS WITH NO HESITATION QUOTED A PRICE OF $205 TO REPAIR. IF IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND OBVIOUSLY IT'S WIDESPREAD, WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL TO FIX IT?
