TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (ONTARIO HYUNDAI, 1307 KETTERING DR, A, ONTARIO, CA 91761) WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE,CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T GO OFF WHEN BRAKE IS PRESSED,SHIFT LOCK DOESN'T WORK.HAVE TO MANUALLY PRESS OVERRIDE BUTTON TO PUT IN GEAR.CAR STALLS SOMETIMES AFTER A TURN. ECS LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON. LOSS OF POWER SOMETIMES,HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LIGHT BULB TWICE IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY BLACK,LIKE BURNT.VEHICLE WAS GENERALLY IN MOTION WHEN ISSUES OCCURRED.
STEERING WHEEL CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP IT WOULD BECOME DANGEROUS TO STEER AS THE PART ( A RUBBER PART THE SIZE OF A 50 CENT COIN ) DETERIORATED. THE PART REPLACED WAS 1-56315-2K000-FFF- FLEXIBLE COUPLING. IT COST AROUND $300.00 TO REPLACE A $2.52 PART, THAT IS CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL YET, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MANY OF THESE PARTS.
MY CAR'S STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING CLICKING NOSE. IT PROBABLY STARTED SOME TIME LAST YEAR, BUT I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT B/C SOUND WAS VERY FAINT. BUT NOW, THE NOISE IS PRETTY LOUD AND THAT IT'S AFFECTING THE CAR'S DRIVING PERFORMANCE. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN I DRIVE OVER A CERTAIN SPEED LIMIT; MAKES NOISE WHENEVER I TURN, GO OVER A BUMP, OR WHENEVER I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN WHEN IT'S STATIONARY.. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND DEALER SAID THAT THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THOUGH I OWN THE CAR FOR OVER 5 YRS , I ONLY HAVE $51K MILES ON IT. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH A RECALL ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT!
TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES AND HAS CALLED ABOUT MY VEHICLE ISSUE. ONLY TO HAVE BEEN CALLED A LIAR AND TELLING THEY REFUSED TO FIX MY VEHICLE. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) CIRCUIT BOARD MAY BE DAMAGED AND RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK WITH TRAVELING WITH MY KIDS. HYUNDAI DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. WITH A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, EXTRA STEERING EFFORT WILL BE REQUIRED, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO FIX THIS, I EVEN HAD BRAND NEW TIRES PLACED ON THE VEHICLE AND I WOULD LIKE TO REIMBURSE FOR.THIS IS TOTAL UNACCEPTABLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE SUPPLIED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.
ON THIRD ENGINE THAT IS FINALLY RECALLED WITH CAMPAIGN 132 BUT HOW DO I KNOW IF THE CURRENT ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE OR NOT? TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT 'PASSED' THE ONE TIME RECALL CHECK. THIS IS A JOKE. FIRST ENGINE FAILED AT 96K AND SECOND AT 10 MILES AND NOW WHO KNOWS WHEN THIRD WILL FAIL OR NOT? CAN'T GET HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE NOR DEALERSHIP TO TAKE THE TIME TO TELL ME WHEN THE CURRENT ENGINE WAS MADE. HAVE 119K ON CAR NOW. I AM FRUSTRATED AND CAN'T GET ANSWERS... CAN YOU HELP ME?
STEERING IS VERY LOOSE, SHAKES, AND VIBRATES VERY BAD DRIVING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY AND SIDE STREET SPEEDS. IT FEELS LIKE YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL AT ANY MOMENT!! I'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S THE FLEX COUPLER! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ISSUED! I'VE SEEN THIS ISSUE A LOT ON THE HYUNDAI FORUMS!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A LOUD THUMP NOISE AND THE STEERING FELT LOOSE. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
STEERING WHEEL HAS BEGUN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING AND MAKES A KNOCKING/POPPING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, YOU CAN TURN THE WHEEL AND HEAR AND FEEL THE POPPING. I SEE THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BUT I AM GUESSING MY CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. MAYBE THE RECALL NEEDS TO EXTEND FURTHER THAN INITIALLY THOUGHT.
CRUISE CONTROL WONT ENGAGE. BUTTONS FOR CRUSE CONTROL INTERMENTLY WORK. WHEN AND IF CRUISE CONTROL DOES ENGAGE BUTTONS CANCEL,SET, +/- SPEED MAY OR MAY NOT OPERATE. SETTING CRUISE CONTROL AND INCREASING OR DECREASING ACCELERATOR SPEED MAY OR MAY NOT ENGAGE. MAY HAVE NO CONTROL IF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAPENS. NO CONTROL OF SPEED AND SETTINGS. NUMEROUS SONATA OWNWERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. GOOGLE PROBLEM AND ITS WELL KNOW. WHAT IS HYUNDAI DOING TO PREVENT OR FIX THE PROBLEM IF AND WHEN UNINTENDED ACCLERATION OCCURS. OR IS HYUNDAI GOING TO WAIT UNTILL SOMEONE MENTIONS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT LIKE IN THE REPLACEMENT OF SONATA ENGINES.....
MYFRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WENT OUT ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO. SINCE THEN I AM NOW HAVING ISSUES WITH MY FRONT DRIVER SEAT BELT. I HAVE TO INSERT IT 3-5 TIMES FOR IT TO LATCH. SOMETIMES IT DOESNT LATCH AT ALL. ALL IN THE PARKED STATUS. THERE IS NOTHING "STUCK" IN THE BUCKLES. I AM ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH MY KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK AND TRY TO TAKE IT OUT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FORATLEAST 2 YEARS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL COUPLER WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE DASH RANDOMLY CAME ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE CAR WAS NEVER HIT, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT OR INVOLVED IN ANY INCIDENT TO CAUSE THE LIGHT TO COME ON. THE LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND WILL NOT TURN OFF, MEANING IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,605.
TAKATA RECALL. I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS EVERYONE ELSE. THE SOUND OF SOMETHING LOOSE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND CLUNKING NOISE HAS BECOME HORRIBLE. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR AT A STAND STILL, I CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND HEAR THE NOISE. I CHECKED THE YEAR OF PRODUCTION OF MY VEHICLE AND IT DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL; HOWEVER, IT SEEMS A LITTLE IRRESPONSIBLE OF HYUNDAI TO NOT RECALL ALL VEHICLES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD NOT JUST A NUISANCE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW AND HAS ONLY BECOME WORSE WITH TIME. I WILL BE CONTACTING HYUNDAI TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE. IN 2016, THE STEERING COLUMN STARTED RATTLING WHILE DRIVING TO/FROM WORK: CITY STREETS, ABOUT 7 MILES ONE WAY. NO DRIVING ISSUE YET BUT SOMETHING IS BROKEN IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP LOOKED AND SAID ITS A "COUPLER" THAT'S BROKEN AND... ITS NOT COVERED WITH MY FULL WARRANTY..? ALSO SAID IT COULD POTENTIALLY EFFECT POWER STEERING. HOW CAN IT NOT BE COVERED?

THE CONTACT NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED WITH SYNTHETIC OIL AND THAT THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE OR OTHER WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HE DRAINED THE OIL PAN AND FOUND EVIDENCE OF METAL SHAVINGS WITHIN THE OIL PAN. ECKERT HYUNDAI INC. (4011 NORTH INTERSTATE 35, DENTON, TX 76210, (940) 243-6200) PERFORMED A DECIMAL TEST ON THE VEHICLE IN SEARCH OF A SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFIABLE ENGINE BEARING SOUND TO INDICATE ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CLEARED OF HAVING ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AS POTENTIAL CAUSES OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 11464007. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. *TT CONSUMER STATED ENGINE HAS DAMAGE AND IS UNDER RECALL. *JB
ECM COMPUTER FAILED. NOTHING WILL WORK. NOT ONLY UNDRIVABLE, IT IS UNSTARTABLE! HAD TO BE TOWED FROM OUR DRIVEWAY. (MANY SYSTEMS ON THIS CAR HAVE FAILED PREVIOUSLY!!) CANNOT GET LOCAL DEALER TO REPAIR IT. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. HYUNDAIS ARE A JOKE!!
STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT, AND SHAKES AND RATTLES VIOLENTLY WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP (WHETHER IT BE A SMALL BUMP ON THE ROAD OR SPEED BUMP). ALSO SHAKES AND RATTLES WHEN I BRAKE. AFTER ONE SHAKE AND RATTLE INCIDENT, MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. NONE OF MY STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS (VOLUME, BLUETOOTH, PHONE, CRUISE CONTROL, ETC.) WORK. MY HORN NO LONGER WORKS ALSO. TOOK MY CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALER AND HAD TO PAY $118 JUST TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED! REALLY?!? I HAD TO PAY IN ORDER TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THE SHAKING/RATTLING PROBLEM WAS THE FLEX COUPLER ASSY, WHICH THEY QUOTED ME WAS $475 TO FIX! THEN THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME ANOTHER $225 TO FIX MY STEERING WHEEL CONTROL ISSUE! COME TO FIND OUT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THAT I'M HAVING. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I WENT OVER MY WARRANTY MILEAGE LIMIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES, I FEEL LIKE IT'S GONNA FALL OFF. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING A CAR THAT VIOLENTLY SHAKES. CONSIDERING SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY HYUNDAI ISN'T TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM WITH SO MAY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUES! I'M NOT PAYING ANOTHER $700 TO FIX MY CAR WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS HYUNDAI USED CHEAP ($2.00) PART THAT ARE BREAKING DOWN ON THEIR CONSUMERS. I ALREADY PAID $118 JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS! IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND WORSENED OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE 405 FREEWAY THE CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF THE FREEWAY BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, HE SAID IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE. I LOOKED UP THE RECALLS FOR THIS CAR AND SEE THIS IS A PROBLEM OTHERS HAVE HAD. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO FIX OR GET ANOTHER CAR?
WHEN I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WITH TWO BARS LEFT ON THE GAS GAUGE (DASHBOARD SAID DISTANCE TO EMPTY: 80 MILES) , THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS OUT OF GAS. I PUT A GALLON OF TANK AND IT WORKED. HOPING THAT IT WAS JUST ONE TIME PROBLEM, I WAS DRIVING IT CAREFULLY FILLING GAS WHEN IT HAD THREE BARS LEFT ON THE GAUGE. A WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHEN THERE WERE 4 BARS (130MILES TO EMPTY ON THE DASH). TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME BE REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP FOR $1,000 WHICH I DECLINED AT THE MOMENT. I HAD 63,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY SONATA 2011 ARE HAVING THE SIMILAR PROBLEM.
BRIEFLY, 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA TO DEALER FOR ENGINE RECALL 132 CAMPAIGN ON 3/24/16. NOTIFIED DEALER THAT CAR HAD STALLED ON HIGHWAY 2 DAYS PRIOR. ACCORDING TO DEALER, CAR "PASSED" RECALL. ON 3/26/16, ENGINE SEIZED ON HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. THANKFULLY, NO INJURIES. CAR TOWED TO DEALER ON 3/29/16. HYUNDAI APPROVES NEW ENGINE ON 3/30/16. TO BE CONTINUED...
MY STEERING HAD A POPPING SOUND IN IT AND I JUST GOT IT IN MARCH AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST A ONE OF THE SOUNDS NOW IT HAS GOT WORSE AND EVERYTIME I GO AT HIGH SPEED OR HIT A BUMP IT RATTLES AND JERKS OFF THE ROAD.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR I HEARD A METALLIC NOISE WHEN I HIT SMALL BUMPS/CRACKS IN THE ROAD. I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD I HEARD A BANG/POP AND A CLUNK. I THEN SAW A SMALL PIECE OF METAL FALL OUT FROM UNDER THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF THE CAR. I TURNED AROUND AND FOUND THE PIECE IN QUESTION. IT IS A PART OF THE FRONT COIL SPRING. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT HYUNDAI HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE LINE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR DID NOT FALL UNDER THIS PARTICULAR RECALL. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED 4/28/10 AND THE CARS BEING RECALLED WERE MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 12/11/09 AND 02/28/10. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $529.00. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF MY MANUFACTURE DATE, THAT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. I ASKED HIM IF THE SPRINGS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE ONES IN MY CAR? HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW. IF THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE SPRINGS BREAKING AT WHAT POINT DID HYUNDAI SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT SPRING? MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITHIN 2 MONTH OF THE EFFECTED VEHICLES, MY ASSUMPTION IS THE SPRING IN MY CAR IS THE SAME SPRING THAT IS IN THE RECALLED VEHICLES. HYUNDAI DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SPRING UNTIL 10/2014..... HOW MANY VEHICLES HAVE THE EXACT SAME SPRING INSTALLED AS THE "OFFICIAL" RECALLED VEHICLES? THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HYUNDAI HAS A CURRENT RECALL FOR IT, MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE SAME RECALL, I'M SURE IT HAS THE SAME BROKEN SPRING AS THE OTHERS.
HYUNDAI RECALL 133: ON FRIDAY, MARCH 25, I WAS DRIVING AND IN MOTION WHEN I HEARD A METALIC, CLANKY SOUND WHEN I DROVE OVER A FEW BUMPS IN THE ROAD. I FINISHED MY TRIP AND AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON THE WAY BACK TO MY HOME, I HEARD IT AGAIN AND HEARD METAL DROP ON THE ROAD UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I LOOKED OUT THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND SAW A METAL PIECE BOUNCING AND THEN COME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I PULLED OVER AND PICKED UP THE PART. I HAD MY HUSBAND INSPECT IT AND HE SAID IT MAY BE FROM THE FRONT COIL SPRING. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC AND HAD THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE FRONT SPRING COIL THAT HAD ERODED AND FRACTURED. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE SPRING WAS UNDER RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THE RECALL, HYUNDAI MOTORS OF AMERICA INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL NOTICE 133. I HAVE AN OPEN CASE WITH HYUNDAI MOTORS OF AMERICA (CASE # 8968274).

PAINT TEST REVEALS THERE IS NO SEALANT TO ADHERE PAINT TO BODY OF CAR AND WILL CONTINUE TO PEEL FROM THE BODY. INSURANCE MAY NOT COVER THE COST TO REPAINT, AND HYUNDAI PAINT WARRANTY ONLY 3 YEARS, 36,000 MILES.

OUR DAUGHTER WAS GIVEN THE CAR ON 3/12/2016, ON 3/16/2016 WHILE DRIVING THE EPS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, POWER STEERING WAS LOSS. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED STEERING COLUMN AND COLUMN ASSEMBLY, COST $1701.18. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG HAS COME OUT ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE DEALERSHIP IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA PUSHED IT BACK IN. ON 6/11/2016, PASSENGER AIRBAG CAME OUT WHILE DRIVING. (HUSBAND PUSHED IT BACK IN, HOWEVER, I DON'T FEEL OUR DAUGHTER AND HER PASSENGERS ARE SAFE). ON 6/11/2016, WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE THE CAR, PUT THE GEAR INTO D AND THE CAR MOVED BACKWARDS. TURN THE CAR OFF AND SHIFTED INTO D(IT WORKED). THIS ACCORDING TO OUR DAUGHTER, THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. INTERIOR LIGHTING HAS TO BE MANUALLY MANIPULATED TO TURN THEM OFF.

HAND BRAKE LIGHT DOESN'T STAY ON. IF THE HAND BRAKE IS APPLIED THE DASHBOARD DOESN'T INDICATE THAT IT'S ON. THE CAR STILL DRIVES AND DRIVER UNAWARE THAT THE HAND BRAKE IS ON APPLIES BRAKE CAUSING SEVERE SHARING AND LOOSING CONTROL OF CAR. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ON STREET FOR 8 MILES WITH HAND BRAKE ON.
THE STEERING COLUMN CLICKS WHEN MAKING MICRO ADJUSTMENTS AT ANY SPEEDS LOW OR HIGH. SUDDEN STOPS OR DECELERATING IT SHAKES AND CLICKS. ALSO IF CAR IS OFF IT CLICKS IF U MOVE WHEEL SIDE TO SIDE. SHAKING MAKES THE CAR MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT LIGHTS.
OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS OF HAVING THIS VECHICLE I HAVE REPLACES BULBS AFTER BULBS LOW BEAM, HIGH BEAM, BRAKE LIGHT, TAG LIGHT AND SO ON. WHEN HAVING BRAKE LIGHT REPLACED IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT MY BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING IS MELTING. ONE OF THE BULBS WAS HARD TO TAKE OUT BECAUSE THE PLASTIC ASSEMBLY WAS MELTED TO THE BULB. I FIND THIS VERY DANGEROUS THIS MAY CAN EVEN CAUSE A FIRE AND I HAVE TO YOUNG CHILDREN THAT'S WITH ME ALL THE TIME. I SEE OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL YET.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER FOR SEVEN CONSECUTIVE MONTHS BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR DUE TO THE PART NOT BEING AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP OVER A MONTH AGO BECAUSE OF NOISES COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. I KNEW THAT THEY HAD RECALLS BEFORE ON STEERING BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ISSUE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE ISSUE IS A STEERING COUPLER INVOLVING THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY ALSO HAVE A NEW RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT MADE ON APRIL 16, 2016. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME STEERING ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HYUNDAI EXPECTS MONEY OUT OF POCKET FOR IT. NOW WHEN DRIVING, THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH INCREASED SPEEDS THERE IS SHAKING AND CLICKING. ANY LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD WILL CAUSE CLICKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. EVEN SITTING STILL, IT WILL CLICK ONCE YOU TURN THE WHEEL. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS HAZARD BUT I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET THIS FIXED WHEN OBVIOUSLY THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI AND THEIR RECALLS.
THERE IS AN ISSUES WITH THE STEERING COUPLING ON MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 50000 MILES AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT COULD FALL OF AT ANY MOMENT IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN STOPPING AND ALSO WHEN GOING OVER 60 MILES AND HOUR. THE SMALLEST BUMPS IN THE ROAD CAUSE A VIOLENT SHAKING AS WELL. THIS PART THE COUPLING IS LITERALLY A PIECE OF RUBBER THE SIZE OF A QUARTER IT COST 15 DOLLARS AT THE PART STORE AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS 200 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. I KNOW SEVERAL OTHER SONATA OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND EVERY WEBSITE I'VE FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. WHEN I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE MAN I SPOKE TO NEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO FIX. HE ALSO SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 SONATA. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL!!!!!

WHILE IN MOTION I NOTICED THAT I STARTED HAVING EXTRA PLAY IN MY STEERING. I TOOK THE CAR TO GET THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED OUT. AFTER REPAIRING 2- TIRE RODS THE ASE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE PLAY STILL EXISTED AND THAT IT WAS A RECALLED ITEM THAT HYUNDAI WOULD REPAIR. I THEN CALLED HYUNDAI CARE AND SET-UP AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE REPAIR COMPLETED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE POHANKA DEALERSHIP THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE REPAIR HAD BEEN COMPLETED IN 2010 AND THAT I WOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID SO WITHOUT INSPECTING MY VEHICLE.
I HAVE EXCESSIVE FREE PLAY OR SEPARATION OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT UPPER AND/OR LOWER UNIVERSAL JOINT CROSS SHAFT/YOKE; MISSING, LOOSE OR DAMAGED UNIVERSAL JOINT PINCH BOLTS; IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS WITH MISALIGNED SPLINES OR INSUFFICIENT SPLINE ENGAGEMENT PREVENTING THE UNIVERSAL JOINT PINCH BOLT FROM BEING SECURED IN THE RETAINING GROOVE WHEN FASTENED. THIS WAS RECALL 097. A INVESTIGATION WAS ALSO CONDUCTED INVESTIGATION #PE10035. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND WHEN MECHANIC CALLED ABOUT RECALL, THEY STATED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS BASED ON VIN NUMBER. IF THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE 2011 SONATA'S THEN IT SHOULD NOT MATTER. ACCORDING TO THE INVESTIGATION 119,383 SUBJECT VEHICLES HAVE BEEN SERVICED UNDER THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN AND 58 SUBJECT VEHICLES HAVE RECEIVED REPLACEMENT PARTS AS A RESULT. THIS CAMPAIGN RECALL SHOULD BE REOPENED AND THOSE AFFECTED SHOULD RECEIVED THE SAME BECAUSE I PURCHASED MINE AS A USED VEHICLE IN 2012. WHO IS TO SAY THAT PREVIOUS OWNER KNEW OF THE ISSUE CONCERNING THIS VEHICLE AND DECIDED TO TRADE IT IN.
