WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR YESTERDAY NORMALLY, THE CAR DID NOT START. AFTER READING THE OWNERS MANUAL I DISCOVERED HOW TO INSERT THE SMART KEY INTO A SLOT WITHIN THE CENTER ARM REST COMPARTMENT AND THE CAR STARTS NORMALLY. HOWEVER THE CAR CANNOT BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED WITH THE SMART KEY ANYMORE. THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE ON THE DAY OF FAILURE. ALSO WHEN MOVING IN REVERSE, AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE ARE CLUMPING SOUNDS FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THAT'S GETTING LOUDER. UNFORTUNATELY WE OWNER'S DO NOT GET ANY TYPE OF RESOLUTIONS ON THESE ISSUES. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECTIFY THESE CONCERNS. OOH THEY GOT THEIR MONEY ALREADY....
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN DRIVING AND THERE IS A CLUNK WHEN I TURN. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD STEERING WHEEL COUPLING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CHARGE IS $350. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THERE WAS NO INTEREST IN HELPING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS NOT AFFECTED BY ANY RECALL.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY AIRBAG LIGHT. INITIALLY WHEN I WOULD START MY CAR UP THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON BUT THEN IT WOULD GO OFF AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. NOW IT HAS COME ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. IT HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND SEEING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT. IS SOMETHING GOING TO BE DONE CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM?
THERE IS AN ISSUES WITH THE STEERING COUPLING ON MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 70000 MILES AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT COULD FALL OF AT ANY MOMENT IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN STOPPING AND ALSO WHEN GOING OVER 60 MILES AND HOUR. THE SMALLEST BUMPS IN THE ROAD CAUSE A VIOLENT SHAKING AS WELL. THIS PART THE COUPLING IS LITERALLY A PIECE OF RUBBER THE SIZE OF A QUARTER IT COST 15 DOLLARS AT THE PART STORE AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS 350 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. I KNOW SEVERAL OTHER SONATA OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND EVERY WEBSITE I'VE FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. WHEN I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE WOMEN I SPOKE TO NEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO FIX. IF SHE KNEW THIS INFO RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF HER HEAD THEN THAT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE SEVERAL SONATA DRIVERS IN MY AREA ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL!!!'N
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MDPS FLEX COUPLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V190000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
POWER STEERING RECALL NOTICE ISSUE AND STEERING COUPLER/COLUMN REPLACEMENTS. LOUD NOISES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE. WHICH CAUSED PROBLEM DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. WEARING OUT MY TIRES, ABSOLUTELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT AMAZES ME HOW MANY OTHER SONATA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. HYUNDAI TAKE ACTION AND RESPONSIBILITY. THIS ISN'T FARE TO CONSUMERS
THE STEERING WHEEL CLICKS WHEN TURNING OR HIT A BOUNCE. IT IS THE MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING COUPLING, PART # 56315-2K000-FFFF . THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 14-ST-002-1 STATES THAT IT TAKES 1 1/2 HOURS TO REPLACE YET THE DEALER STATES IT IS A 3 HOUR JOB. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS YET NO RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS A PIECE OF CRAP PART.
THE AIRBAG SIGN IS ALWAYS ON. AND SOUNDS FROM THE HANDLE.
II HAD A RECALL ON SEVERAL THINGS ON MY CAR. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM HAD THE RECALL STIFF DONE AND TWO WEEK LATER MY STARTER WENT OUT. I INFORMED THEM THERE WAS ALSO A RECALL FOR THE STARTER AND THEY ARGUE ME DOWN THAT IT WAS NOT. WELL SEVERAL PEOPLE I KNOW WITH THE SAME TYPE OF CAR YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AND THEY RECEIVED AN NOTICE BUT WHEN THEY TOOK IT IN THE RECALL WAS FOUND. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS IN THE AMOUNT OF $575.00 AT FOR THEY WERE TRYING TO CHARGE ME OVER $700.00. I SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR A RECALL AND NOW TRYING TO FIND HOW TO FILE A CLAIM FOR A REFUND. MY CAR STOP ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT I GOT A JUMP IT MADE IT HOME AND DIED AGAIN ON THE STREET CALL AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER.
YESTERDAY I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING APPROXIMATELY 80MPH. IN MY SIDE MIRROR I NOTICED SOMETHING DANGLING FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR, WITHIN A MILLISECOND I AM WATCHING MY TAIL LIGHT FLY OFF MY CAR RIGHT INTO THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. I PULLED IN TO THE NEXT REST STOP AND FOUND THAT MY TAIL LIGHT HAD BLEW OFF MY CAR. THE CAR BEHIND ME FOLLOWED ME INTO THE REST STOP, THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR INJURY TO THEM OR THEIR CAR. YESTERDAY I HAD BEEN VISITING MY DAD IN THE HOSPITAL 100 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME. BEFORE I GOT IN MY CAR I STUCK A A HUGE SHEET PAN IN MY TRUNK-FYI THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE TAIL LIGHT OR THE REAR OF MY CAR AT ALL.
THE STEERING WAS HAVING MORE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAN NORMAL BOTH WHEN STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. THERE WAS ALSO A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN GOING OVER ANY BUMPS IN THE ROAD. WE BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING COUPLER. THE ORIGINAL PART WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND BROKE APART (PICTURE ATTACHED). THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE NEW PART IS MADE OF A DIFFERENT MATERIAL THAN THE ORIGINAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND SMOKE EMITTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE ENGINE STARTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,970.
ONE DAY DRIVING, THIS CLICKING NOISE, STARTED TO COME FROM STEERING COLUMN EVERY TIME I MADE A TURN AND ALSO WHEN I DROVE OVER A SLIGHT BUMP IN ROAD. THIS NOISE HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. NOW I CAN HEAR IT ALL THE TIME WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK CAR IN FOR OTHER RECALLS AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. COST OF 375.00! I FEEL BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN NOTED ON WEBSITES FROM MANY UPON MANY OF SONATA OWNERS THAT THIS PARTICULAR STEERING COUPLER IS FAULTY. HENCE, THE RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE AUTO MAKER AND NOT THE CAR OWNER TO ABSORB THE COST OF REPAIRS. TO MAKE RIGHT, THIS DANGEROUS WRONG. THANK YOU
CLUNKING NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN WHEN PARKED WHILE TURNING WHEEL AND DRIVING OVER BUMPS.
CAR WILL NOT START WHEN I HIT THE START BUTTON. SOMETIMES IT WILL AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES 4 OR 5 TIMES TO START. CAR MAKES AN ELECTRICAL RATTLE LIKE NOISE BUT DOESN'T TURN OVER. ALSO, WHEN I TRY TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, MY DISPLAY WILL TELL ME TO SHIFT TO PARK AND THE RADIO WILL STAY ON. I'VE HAD THE CAR IN FOR THE SHIFT LEVER CABLE RECALL BUT I BELIEVE THERE IS MORE TO THIS. THE CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING BEFORE AND AFTER THE RECALL FIX. I COMMUTE 200 MILES TO WORK SO THE MILES I POST WILL BE HIGH.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,500.
I TOOK MY 2011 SONATA FOR AN OIL CHANGE LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING COUPLING WAS LOSE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST ME AROUND $350. AFTER DOING SOME RESERCH I FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF 2011 SONATA OWNERS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. MY CAR ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT AND MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME OF THE SONATAS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. WHY NOT MINE? THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COLUMN SHAFT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V426000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.
2011 SONATA EXPERIENCED STEERING DIFFICULTIES: SHAKING AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON HIGHWAY (70 MPH), CLICKING IN STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEED AND SIMPLY WHEN TURNING WHEEL WHEN CAR IS IN PARK, LOOSE STEERING ,AND, AT TIMES, QUICKLY JERKING IN A DIRECTION WHILE AT HIGH SPEEDS-STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO LOSE CONTROL. CAR WAS BOUGHT USED AND WAS SERVICED UNDER 2010 STEERING COLUMN SHAFT RECALL. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TODAY SAYS ITS THE COUPLAR AND THAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND OFFERING TO SPLIT THE COST WITH ME. IT APPEARS HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AS THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS COUPLAR WITHOUT EVEN SPEAKING WITH THE TECH YET.. I'M CONCERNED THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AMONG 2011 SONATAS AND HYUNDAI CONTINUES TO SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG WHILE FORCING CUSTOMERS TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED IN 2010.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AT 37,000 MILEAGE WHILE THE CAR WAS ON BUT NOT MOVING. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER TO CHECK THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND WAS TOLD THAT AIRBAG CONTROLLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THIS IS MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT POSES A THREAT OF THE CONSUMER'S SAFETY AS IT CAN BE DEADLY THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED! THIS CAN BE FATAL. ADDITIONALLY, IT SEEMS THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS OF 2011 SONATAS OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FROM THE MANUFACTURER! PLEASE HELP THE CONSUMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS CONTINUOUSLY ON WITHOUT BEING IN AN ACCIDENT AND WHEN THE VEHICULE IS NOT IN MOTION. THIS MEANS THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR DEATH! IT SEEMS THIS IS A PERSISTENT ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI SONATAS SINCE 2006.
I TOOK MY CAR IN TO LEN STOLER HYUNDAI AT 11275 REISTERSTOWN ROAD OWINGS MILLS MD ON FEB 08 2016 FOR A RECALL CAMPAIGN 132 AND CAMPAIGN 136. I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND WAS FINE. ON FEB 14TH 2016 I WAS DRIVING HOME LATE AT NIGHT ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN I NOTICED A NOISE, CLICKING SOUND WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR STALLED. I CALLED MY SON AND HE TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE OIL GAUGE INDICATOR WAS ON AND WHEN HE INSPECTED IT INDICATED THAT OIL WAS VERY LOW. WHICH WAS UNUSAL BECAUSE AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL, I WAS TOLD MY OIL WAS LOW AND I ALSO HAD AN OIL AND FILTER DONE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR THEN NOR AT THE TIME THE CAR STALLED. MY SON PUT MORE OIL IN THE CAR. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AND HE PUSHED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE NEXT MORNING I CALLED AAA AND TOOK IT BACK TO LEN STOLER HYUNDAI.ITS BEEN THREE WEEKS AND THEY ARE STILL FIXING IT.
THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER DOOR LOCK ON MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH 40,000 MILES SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ERROR UNTIL IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. IN ORDER TO LOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR YOU MUST DO IT MANUALLY. YOU MUST ALSO UNLOCK IT MANUALLY AS WELL. THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE A KEY HOLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. IF THE PASSENGER NEEDED TO GET IN THE CAR IN A HURRY IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT AS THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE TO ENTER FIRST AND REACH ACROSS TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MANUALLY. ALSO, IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SECURE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DRIVER MUST REACH ACROSS THE VEHICLE TO LOCK IT WHENEVER LEAVING THE VEHICLE.
AFTER THE VEHICLE GETS HOT (IN SUMMER) OR IS DROVE FOR AT LEAST 30 MINS, THE ABS AND TRACTION SENSOR LIGHTS COME ON AND MAKE DRIVING VERY DIFFICULT. THE LOW TIRE LIGHT STAYS ON SINCE WE PURCHASED IT.
THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A SHORT IN THEM AND WHEN BLENKER IS USED THE LIGHT GO COMPLETELY OUT. THE LEFT HEADLIGHT HAS BEEN REPLACED AND WILL STILL NOT WORK EITHER. CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AFTER DARK!
CONSTANT CLICKING IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHETHER I AM DRIVING OR SITTING STILL. WHILE IN PARK, IF I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE. WHILE DRIVING EVERY BUMP IN THE ROAD CLICKING. ON THE INTERSTATE A VERY BAD VIBRATION AND CLICKING AT 60MPH. THIS ONLY STARTED HAPPENING AFTER HAVING SEVERAL RECALLS COMPLETED ON 02/05/16. CAMPAIGN 132 - COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, CAMPAIGN 122 AND 123.
CAME OUT TO THE PARKED VEHICLE IN OUR DRIVEWAY TO FIND THE ENTIRE PASSENGER REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY FALLING OUT. THE CAR WAS NEVER HIT OR IN A ACCIDENT. NOTICED THAT THE STUDS (FASTENERS) GOING INTO THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY CRACKED APART AND SEPARATED FROM THE STUDS AND THE ASSEMBLY ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO FALL FROM THE BODY. A NEW TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WILL BE NEEDED TO REPAIR. THIS LOOKS AS THOUGH THERE COULD BE A TENSILE STRENGTH PROBLEM WITH THE PLASTIC. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM REOCCURRING WITH PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE SOCIAL MEDIA.
MY STEERING FLEX COUPLER NEEDS REPLACING. EVERY TIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL I GET A CLUNK NOISE. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN ALMOST ALL OF THE HYUNDAI SONATAS, BUT FOR SOME REASON MY SONATA IS NOT FALLING UNDER THE RECALL FOR THIS. IT WILL COST ME ALMOST $500 TO FIX. THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY HYUNDAI!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE DTC WAS NOT SHOWN FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V190000 (STEERING) AND THE FAILURE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED AS THE NOISE FROM THE AREA OF THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED. THE CONTACT WAS TO CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE THE GUIDELINES FOR THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE STEERING HAS PLAY IN IT WITH SHORT TURNS TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AND IT RATTLES WHEN DRIVEN OVER A BUMP.
WHENEVER I HIT A BUMP OR ROUGH ROAD OR MY SPEED GETS OVER 60 MPH MY STEERING WHEEL RATTLES, SHAKES AND MAKES POPPING NOISE. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2010 BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT I GUESS MY CAR WAS AFTER THE MADE DATES OF PREVIOUS CARS WITH THE PROBLEM BUT IT SOUNDLIKE THE SAME PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN ON SOME OTHER SITES BY GOOGLING AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE APPARENTLY.
STEERING COUPLING PROBLEM WHICH HAS SERIPUS SAFTY ISSUE. I WONDER WHY THIS PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED BY HYUNDAI AND HOW MANY OTHER FAULTY COUPLERS HAD BEEN FOUND WHILE PERFORMING THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP ASKED ME FOR 600$ TO FIX THIS ISSUE!!. I DO FEEL THAT THE COUPLER SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.

IN ADDITION, THE OIL HAD TO BE REFILLED EVERY FOUR TO SIX WEEKS, BUT THERE WAS NO PRESENCE OF A LEAK. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHERE THE FAILURE ORIGINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR THE ENGINE CRANK SHAFT RECALL AND IT WAS INDICATED THAT THE STEERING COUPLING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ENGINE CRANK SHAFT RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS ALSO EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V568000 (ENGINE), 16V190000 (STEERING), 10V457000 (STEERING), AND 10V426000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT HE WOULD NOT INSTALL THE PART BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AN OEM REVISED PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A REPAIR SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
KNOCKING WAS HEARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BEING ROTATED EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN STOPPED OR AT SLOW SPEED. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS IMMEDIATELY INFORMED IT WAS THE STEERING MOTOR FLEXIBLE COUPLING THAT WAS WORN, LOOSE, OR DEFECTIVE. REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT A COST OF $230.42, $2.42 OF WHICH WAS THE COST OF THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO BEING A 5 MONTHS OVER THE 5 YEAR LIMIT BUT WELL WITHIN THE MILEAGE LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED, BEING BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 3000 MILES FOR OIL CHANGES AND WHATEVER ELSE NEEDED TO BE DONE. SINCE THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN WELL KNOWN TO HYUNDAI FOR SEVERAL YEARS, I WAS APPALLED TO SEE THAT HYUNDAI DID NOT REPLACE THAT BUSHING UNDER THE WARRANTEE DURING ONE OF MY VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, PARTICULARLY SINCE IT COULD HAVE EVENTUALLY RESULTED IN LOSS OF STEERING, AND A POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT. I WOULD ENCOURAGE THE NHTSA TO HAVE HYUNDAI ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL AT THIS TIME. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE NOW ABOUT 5 YEARS OLD WHICH, FROM THE NUMBER OF RECENT COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ON LINE, APPEARS TO BE LIFE OF THE FLEXIBLE COUPLING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOME FATALITIES OCCUR.
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE WHEEL FEELS LOOSE.
MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY LOOSE AND SHAKY OVER THE PAST MONTHS WHEN DRIVING OR STATIONARY. THERE IS A VERY DISTINCT (AND GETTING WORSE OVER TIME) "CLICKING" OR "KNOCKING" SOUND WHEN I BACK UP AND TURN MY WHEEL EITHER WAY. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY STEERING GEAR BOX/SHAFT SECTOR AND POSSIBLY SOME OF MY AXLES. HE TOLD ME THIS WAS DANGEROUS, AND THAT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 097 SHOULD COVER ME. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT MY SPECIFIC CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THIS RECALL, EVEN THOUGH I MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF RECENT RECALLS, MY WARRANTY WOULD BE EXTENDED. HOWEVER, HYUNDAI HAS NOW TOLD ME THAT MY WARRANTY EXTENSION ONLY COVERS THE SOLE ENGINE, AND NOT THE AXLES THOUGH THEY ARE PART OF AND COVERED BY THE INITIAL ENGINE WARRANTY. HYUNDAI HAS TOLD ME THERE ARE "KITS" TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS, BUT I HAVE TO PAY OVER $1000 FOR THE KITS TO FIX, EVEN THOUGH THESE WERE FAULTY PARTS BY HYUNDAI. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER I SPOKE WITH TOLD ME FLAT OUT THAT MY CAR HAD FAULTY PARTS, BUT THAT THE KITS COULD FIX THEM. I ASKED HIM WHOSE FAULT IT WAS THAT THEY WERE FAULTY, AND HE SAID THAT ALL CAR COMPANIES DEAL WITH THIS AND IT WASN'T BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING. BUT EVEN STILL SO, I HAVE TO BE THE ONE TO PAY FOR HYUNDAI'S FAULTY PARTS AND NON-EXISTENT RECALL HELP. I'M BEYOND FRUSTRATED AFTER READING SO MANY REVIEWS AND FORUMS ONLINE OF PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME CAR SYMPTOMS AS MINE WHO ARE UNFORTUNATELY ALSO NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IF I CANNOT GET A BETTER RESPONSE AND ANSWER FROM THIS, I WILL BE CONTACTING THE MAIN LAWYER WHO OTHERS HAVE ALSO CONTACTED ABOUT THIS AND FILING AN OFFICIAL LAWSUIT. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AT 66700 MILES. TOOK TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE AND TO CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT AND WAS TOLD PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM AND TRACK NEEDED REPLACED. WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY 850 DOLLARS. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND I HAVE KIDS AND CAN'T EVEN TRUST DRIVING THIS CAR DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAGS LIKELY NOT DEPLOYING!!!!! AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AT 66800 MILES. TOOK CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BEING TOLD DRIVER SEAT NEEDS REPLACED BECAUSE SENSOR WENT BAD!!!! SAYS IT WILL BE LIKE 800 DOLLARS TO GET A NEW SEAT. MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE LOUD NOISES FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WASN'T AS LOUD WHEN IT BEGAN, THEN THE MORE I DROVE MY CAR THE LOUDER IT BECAME. I DO NOT KNOW WHY MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE THESE TYPES OF NOISE, I JUST STARTED MY CAR AND I STARTED TO DRIVE AND THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED IT WAS MAKING NOISES. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE COST TO REPAIR IT WAS WAY OVER MY BUDGET. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE CAR AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS FROM CAR OWNERS THAT WERE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. IF THIS PROBLEM CAN BE LIFE THREATENING THEN WHY IS IT NOT MENTIONED AS A RECALL. I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION. MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP TO RESOLVE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS 13V113000 AND 15V568000 - HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN NUMBERS 132 & 136. I WAS TOLD THAT - UNRELATED TO THE RECALL ISSUES - A $3.00 BUSHING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN THE STEERING COLUMN AT A REPLACEMENT COST OF ABOUT $257.00. I ADVISED THAT NEITHER I NOR A VERY FREQUENT PASSENGER IN MY CAR HAD EVER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AS DESCRIBED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR OR HAD NOTICED ANY OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING REGARDLESS OF SPEED AND/OR TERRAIN. THUS, I REFUSED TO HAVE THE SERVICE PERFORMED. I THEN CHECKED OUT THE NHTSA.GOV SITE AND FOUND A HUGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I THEN CALLED HYUNDAI MOTORS AND ADVISED THAT I WAS NOT EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM BUT CLEARLY A PROBLEM WAS BEING ANTICIPATED. HYUNDAI MOTORS SAID THEY WOULD DOCUMENT MY FILE BUT PUT ME ON HOLD SEVERAL TIMES. I AM CONVINCED HYUNDAI MOTORS COMMUNICATED AND CONSPIRED WITH THE REPAIR SHOP AND THAT SABOTAGE IS INVOLVED BECAUSE WHEN I LATER RETURNED TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, THE SERVICE ADVISOR DEMONSTRATED A DISTINCT SOUND UPON TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL - A SOUND NOT SO SUBTLE THAT BOTH MY FREQUENT PASSENGER AND ME WOULD HAVE MISSED IT. I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR I HAD NEVER HEARD THAT SOUND BEFORE BUT STILL FELT COMPELLED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. NHTSA SHOULD MAKE THIS AN ACROSS THE BOARD RECALL AND REQUIRE HYUNDAI TO REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. AFTER ALL, I WAS TOLD BY A HYUNDAI SERVICE ADVISOR THAT IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN.

IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
DEALER STATES STEERING BUSHING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 67,000 MILES DUE TO CLICKING WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS.
I HAVE 71,000 MILES AND WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, I NEED TO REPLACE AXLE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT I THINK IN 2010 THERE WAS A RECALL, OBVIOUSLY THEY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON THE INTERNET I AM SEEING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AXLE ON THE 2011 SONATA.
