AFTER CROSSING RAILROAD AT LOW SPEED, THERE WAS A LOUD, METALLIC CLANK, THEN WOULD CLICK/CLANK IN TURNS. STEERING BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, AND CAR WOULD DRIFT AT HIGH SPEEDS . DEALER STATED THE STEERING COUPLER WAS BAD, ALTHOUGH THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE MULTITUDE OF STEERING RECALLS FOR 2011 SONATAS. THE SERVICEMAN SAID EVERYTHING IN THOSE MODEL'S STEERING WAS JUNK AND THEY REPLACED THE COUPLERS ALL THE TIME. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN EVENTUAL LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND I SHOULD NOT WAIT TO GET IT REPAIRED.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE ENGULFED INTO LARGE FLAMES. THE ENGINE DETACHED TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO THE SALVAGE FACILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS MELTING AROUND THE CONNECTOR FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT BULB. THE CONNECTOR AND BULB GET SO HOT THAT SURROUNDING PLASTIC AND CONNECTOR PLASTIC MELT CAUSING THE BRAKE LIGHT TO FAIL AND MAKING REPLACEMENT IMPOSSIBLE. HYUNDAI REPLACED TWO MELTED BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLIES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND ONE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS. NOW THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS MELTING AGAIN. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHT STOPS WORKING WHEN THE CONNECTOR MELTS. HYUNDAI REPLACED TWO ASSEMBLIES UNDER WARRANTY. I PAID $250 FOR ONE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND NOW HYUNDAI WANTS TO CHARGE ME $250 FOR THE FOURTH BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY NHTSA. GOOGLING THE HYUNDAI 2011 BRAKE LIKE ASSEMBLY LIST MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD FOR 2011 HYUNDAI DRIVERS AND OTHER DRIVERS THAT ENCOUNTER CARS WITH THE FAILING BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,642.
RECENTLY PURCHASED A VEHICLE. DIDN'T GET A PROPER TEST DRIVE. TURNS OUT THE CAR HAS MAJOR DEFECTS ESPECIALLY IN THE STEERING. WE FIGURED OUT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD DEFECTS WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET
TWICE NOW I TRIED TO CRANK MY AUTO AND IT "TURNED OVER" BUT WOULD NOT CRANK. CAME BACK TO IT ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AND IT CRANKED.
PLAY IN THE STEERING AND RATTLE IN COLUMN WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. SITTING STILL THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE COLUMN MAKES RATTLE NOISE.
TO START WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT GO OFF EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. ADDITIONALLY NONE OF THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS WILL WORK AT ALL. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND THESE SEEM TO BE A RAMPANT PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 MODEL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORE THAN THREE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DIAGNOSIS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V759000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, AS IF SOMETHING WERE LOOSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT CONNECTOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V426000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
MY STEERING COLUMN HAS BEGAN TO RATTLE AND SHAKE AFFECTING THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE, IT IS ESPECIALLY WORSENED IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND VIBRATES DRAMATICALLY OVER BUMPS AND WHEN BRAKING WHICH IS VERY SCARY. I'VE GOTTEN AT LEAST 4 RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT AND WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT BUT STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL. INSTEAD, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE SERVICES WOULD BE ROUGHLY AROUND $250 TO REPLACE A $2 RUBBER COUPLER. I FIND THIS VERY DISTURBING AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE COMPANY WILL NOT FIX IT, INSTEAD I WAS TOLD THAT CONTINUED DRIVING WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH FORCES ME TO EITHER PAY FOR THE REPAIR OR TRY TO FIX THIS MYSELF. THE SYMPTOMS STARTED LATE 2015 AND MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 80K MILES. IF THIS IS A DEFECT CAUSED BY HYUNDAI... THEN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY HYUNDAI. PLACING A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART ON YOUR VEHICLES AND LEAVING THE EXPENSE ON YOUR CONSUMER IS UNACCEPTABLE. ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS A SAFETY HAZARD NOT ONLY TO THE DRIVER BUT ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD.
AFTER HEARING THE KNOCKING SOUND FOR 5 MINUTES, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET, THE ENGINE STOPPED AND ALL THE LIGHTS WENT ON. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE AND IT DID NOT TURN ON AGAIN. HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CHARGED ME $75 TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. SINCE LAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI AND STILL HAVE NOT HEARD A DEFINITIVE ANSWER. DEALERSHIP SAID HYUNDAI DECIDES AND HYUNDAI SAID I HAVE TO WAIT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO REMEDY FOR IT.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. I AM WORRIED THAT IF I'M IN A CAR ACCIDENT MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. PLEASE HELP.
I HAVE COMPLIED WITH HYUNDAI IN REGARDS TO THE TWO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH, MY VEHICLE HAS SAT AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE NOVEMBER 5TH 2015. THE DEALERSHIP HAS YET TO RECEIVE A NEW ENGINE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. FURTHERMORE, I STILL PAY PAYMENTS ON THE VEHICLE AND HAVE DONE SO BEFORE THE RECALL WAS RELEASED AS WELL AS EVEN AFTER IT WAS SENT TO THE DEALER, AS REQUESTED BY HYUNDAI. I SPOKE TO HYUNDAI TODAY AS TO AN UPDATE TO WHEN THIS WILL BE COMPLETED AND THEY DID NOT HAVE AN ANSWER. I SENT THEM A LETTER REQUESTING THAT THEY BUY BACK THE VEHICLE DO TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS AS WELL AS THE DELAY IN FIXING THIS MATTER. THEY DECLINED AND THIS IS WHY I AM FILING A COMPLAINT. THEY HAVE NOT OR HAVE THEY EVER TAKEN ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THESE ISSUES FROM MY STANDPOINT AND THE CAR HAS LOST SUBSTANTIAL VALUE DUE TO THESE ONGOING RECALLS. I AM PAYING ON A VEHICLE THAT IS NO LONGER WORTH THE PAYMENTS. I HAVE REQUESTED A BUY BACK DUE TO THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT HYUNDAI MADE. THEY FALSIFIED THEIR COMMERCIALS AND HYPED UP THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCT AND NO LONGER ARE THEY STANDING BEHIND IT.

HAD BECOME A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE THAT UPON TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHETHER AT HIGH, LOW OR EVEN NO SPEED THAT YOU WOULD HEAR A CLICKING/CLUNKING NOISE. THIS WAS ANNOYING, BUT THEN AT HIGH SPEEDS (INTERSTATE DRIVING) WHEN BRAKING THERE BEGAN TO BE AN OCCASIONAL CONSIDERABLE VIBRATING THAT WENT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY ROTORS CAUSING THE VIBRATING WHEN BRAKING AND THOUGHT THE CLICKING NOISE WAS FROM A WEAR IN MY AXLE ROD WHICH A MECHANIC HAD PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED WOULD CAUSE CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING (AND DIDN'T NEED IMMEDIATE CARE). HOWEVER WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE 132 AND 136 RECALLS THE HYUNDAI SERVICE TECH IMMEDIATELY KNEW IT WAS THE STEERING COUPLER BY TURNING MY WHEEL BECAUSE HE SEES IT SO OFTEN. HE EVEN HAD EXAMPLES PINNED UP ON THEIR BOARD TO EXPLAIN IT. HE EXPLAINED THE SAFETY RISK OF NOT GETTING IT FIXED AS IT COULD CAUSE SHAKING OF THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN (ALREADY WAS), LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING MAKING IT LESS RESPONSIVE TO TURNS, AND COULD EVEN CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL NOT TO RESPOND TO A SUDDEN TURN INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. I OF COURSE WENT AHEAD AND HAD IT REPAIRED, SINCE MY 3 KIDS RIDE IN IT EVERY DAY. DURING MY WAIT IN THE LOBBY I GOOGLED THE ISSUE TO SEE IF THE $266 I WAS BEING CHARGED WAS REASONABLE (IT WAS) BUT I FOUND SO MANY POSTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND SOME PEOPLE SEEMED ABLE TO HAVE THE REPAIR COST COVERED EVEN WHEN OUTSIDE OF THEIR WARRANTY, SO I CALLED HYUNDAI ASKING FOR A REFUND OF THE COST. THEY SAID SINCE MY CAR HAD OVER 60,000 MILES THEY COULDN'T HELP ME WITH ANY COMPENSATION. I DO HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES ON MY CAR, BUT CONSIDERING THE WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS PART AND THE SAFETY CONCERN I BELIEVE HYUNDAI SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THE MECHANIC HAD REASSURED ME THE REPLACEMENT PART IS IMPROVED, WHICH ALSO SHOWS HYUNDAI KNOWS ITS A PROBLEM. (DATE WILL BE ESTIMATE OF HIGHWAY VIBRATING)
STEERING WHEEL/COLUMN STATED MAKING A CLICKING NOISE ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. AT FIRST IT WASN'T THAT BAD; NOW EVERYTIME YOU MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL A CLICKING NOISE IS MADE. EVERY BUMP OR RUT YOU HIT IN THE ROAD MAKES IT RATTLE. SOUNDING AS IF IT IS GETTING READY TO BREAK.. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE HYUNDAI PLACE SEVERAL TIMES AND REPORTED THIS PROBLEM. HYUNDAI KEEPS TELLING ME THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL. IT WILL COST ME $250.00 TO $300.00 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. MY QUESTION STILL REMAINS THAT IF THIS STEERING COUPLING IS DEFECTED AND IT IS CONTROLLING THE STEERING OF THE CAR THEN WHY IF IS NOT A RECALL? I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD SO MANY PEOPLE ARE POSSIBLY HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR RECALL. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE SONATA IN TO GET IT CHECKED AND WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT WE WERE PRETTY LUCKY BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT HELD ON BY THE STEERING FLEX COUPLER, HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS BEING TOLD. BUT LATER I WAS TOLD BY A FLEET MEMBER THERE THAT I WAS PRETTY LUCKY TO NEVER HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE MAKING A TURN OR BRAKING HARD... WOW! I JUST STARTED WONDERING HOW MANY SONATAS HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF SOMETHING RELATED TO THIS? I JUST FEEL THAT THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEVER SHOULD OF HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING COLUMN. $474.96 COST FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
