WHEN MAKING A MODERATE TO SLOW TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION THERE IS A KNOCKING/THUD/CLICKING SOUND EMANATING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, WITH A SLIGHT JERK. ALSO, DURING ACCELERATION ONTO A HIGHWAY I EXPERIENCED A VIBRATION AND JERK IN MY STEERING WHEEL. I AM SCHEDULED FOR A SERVICE AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOMORROW.
EXPERIENCED LOUD VIBRATION FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR WHILE GOING OVER ROUGH ROAD. WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, THERE IS A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT PAST CENTER. TOOK TO DEALER TO INVESTIGATE, WAS TOLD A BUSHING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FAILURE OCCURRED AT 77,000 MILES, WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL AT THIS TIME.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL WILL RANDOMLY QUIT WORKING. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL WORK FINE ONE TIME AND THEN THE NEXT I CAN'T HIT SET OR THE CANCEL BUTTON WILL BE THE CRUISE OR IT WILL FLIP THROUGH THE OTHER OPTIONS (TRIP BUTTON). IF I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL IN THIS VICINITY IT WILL WORK CORRECTLY SOMETIMES. THE VOLUME BUTTON WILL EITHER MUTE, OR THE + WILL ACTUAL DECREASE THE VOLUME. THE BUTTON TO CHANGE THE STATION (PRESETS) WILL CHANGE THE MODE (AM, CD, SIRIUS...) SOMETIMES ONE DIRECTION (UP) WORKS AND THE OTHER DOES SOMETHING ELSE RANDOM. ALL OF THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS SEEM TO HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN AND DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY MOST DAYS VS SOME DAYS THE BUTTONS WORK FINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING AND IT WORKED FINE. NEXT DAY, ISSUES AGAIN. I SAW OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS BUT CAN'T SEEM TO MAKE IT HAPPEN WHEN I NEED IT TO. FRUSTRATING SINCE IT IS SAFER TO USE THESE CONTROLS THAT THE BUTTONS ON THE DASH.

STEERING HAS "DEAD" AREA IN CENTER ... STEERING WHEEL TURNS A LITTLE BUT WHEELS DON'T. THEN THERE'S A LITTLE "CLUNK" AND THE POWER STEERING ENGAGES. I SEE ON INTERNET THERE'S LOTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, BUT DEALER SAYS THERE'S NO RECALL AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR. I THINK IT'S A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THIS STEERING SYSTEM.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WENT TO ACCELERATE AND A LOUD CLANKING BEGIN RUMBLING IN MY ENGINE LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE AND MOVING AROUND. ALL MY DASH LIGHTS CUT ON AND MY SPEED SLOWED DRAMATICALLY. LUCKILY I WAS IN A POSITION TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE BEING REAR ENDED BY A TRUCK. I WONDER HAD I BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED WOULD HYUNDAI STILL BE DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON FINDING A REMEDY OR REPLACING THE ENGINES FOR CAMPAIGN 132. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED OCTOBER 19, 2015 APPROXIMATELY 6:15AM IN MECHANCISVILLE, MD.
FOR THE PAST MONTH I HAVE BEEN HEARING A KNOCKING COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ALSO AS IM ACCELERATING MY CAR SEEMS TO SLIP A GEAR AND LOSE SOME SPEED. I LOOKED UP THESE THINGS ON LINE AND THATS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR WAS RECALLED. I CALLED HYUNDAI TWICE AND WAS TOLD YES MY CAR IS ON THE RECALL LIST BUT AS OF NOW THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION. THEN ONE DAY AFTER WORK WHEN I WENT TO START MY CAR IT HESITATED TO START. THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO AUTO ZONE TO HAVE MY BATTERY CHECKED AND THE MACHINE SHOWED IT HAD 70% JUICE. WENT ON TO DO MY SHOPPING CAME OUT TO START MY CAR AND IT WAS COMPLETLY DEAD. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM, WHICH I DID AND NOW IM JUST WAITING TO FIND OUT WHATS WRONG. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE!
EXHIBITING EXACT SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V-070 HYUNDAI DEALER SAID MY CAR WAS BUILT IN MARCH AND WILL NOT MAKE THE REPAIR. ALSO EXHIBITING ISSUES DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V-457 AND DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIR. THE EXCESSIVE SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL HAS CAUSED MY SRS (SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM) TO KICK A CODE THAT SAYS MY STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. SRS LITE STAYS ON. HYUNDAI DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIR ON NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V-113. I CURRENTLY HAVE A PIECE OF FOLDED CARDBOARD ZIP TIED TO MY BRAKE SWITCH. CAR EXHIBITING ISSUES RELATING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V-434 EVEN AFTER HAVING THE DEALER USE THEIR (CLIP) REMEDY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN UNIVERSAL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN THE CAR IS GOING UP OR DOWN INCLINES (BOTH SLIGHT OR STEEPER INCLINES), THE CAR STALLS AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED, NOTHING HAPPENS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY PROBLEMATIC WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING HIGHWAY ON AND OFF RAMPS, OR TRYING TO MERGE. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON LOCAL STREETS AS WELL AS ON A HIGHWAY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS AND PAID THEIR DIAGNOSTIC FEES AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THIS IS MY FAMILY'S MAIN CAR AND I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN IT, BECAUSE THE STALLING PUTS US AT A HUGE RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED.
EVERY TIME I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD MY STEERING MAKES A LOUD RATTLING NOISE. EVEN IF MY CAR IS SITTING STILL, IF I TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT IT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT I FEEL NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
MY MAIN AIRBAG LIGHT HAS CAME ON AND NOW STAYS ON AS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAGS OR SENSOR. AS SOON AS I TURNED MY CAR ON AND MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET TO GET THE KIDS, THE LIGHT CAME ON FOR SHORT WHILE THEN WENT OFF AND CAME BACK ON NOT TOO LONG AFTER, AND SINCE THEN WILL NOT GO OFF AT ALL. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAGS OR AIR BAG SENSORS. SOME REPORTS ENDED IN A CRASH AND AIR BAGS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY SINCE THEIR LIGHT CAME ON. TO ME THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SHOULD NOT BE HELD RELIABLE FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF SAFETY WITHIN A VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.

MY 16YO DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR (GOING ABOUT 40 MPH) WHEN WARNING LIGHTS BECAME ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR STARTED LURCHING. SHE WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME. THE NEXT DAY WE TOOK IT AROUND THE CORNER TO CLOSEST GARAGE. THE MECHANIC SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE IT THREW A ROD. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 52,000 MILES ON IT AND WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS. THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THERE WAS METALLIC DEBRIS IN THE OIL PAN- THE SERVICE REP EVEN HAD A PICTURE OF IT ON HIS CELLPHONE TO SHOW ME.THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN GREAT, GIVING US A LOANER. HOWEVER, TOMORROW THE CAR WILL HAVE BEEN THERE FOR A MONTH AND WE STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL BE FIXED! THE REPAIR PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE! I THOUGHT ABOUT TRADING IT IN FOR A NEW CAR, BUT THE CAR IS PAID FOR AND I DON'T WANT TO INCUR ANYMORE DEBT. I ACTUALLY HAD TO TELL THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL (CAMPAIGN 132). IT WAS SO NEW THEY WERE UNAWARE OF IT. WHEN I TRIED THE AUTOMATED LINE FOR HYUNDAI CORPORATION IT TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE AND REPEATED THE VIN #, THEN I WAS TOLD IT WAS INDEED INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IF MY CAR BECAME INOPERABLE A MONTH AGO, HOW ON EARTH DO THEY PLAN ON HANDLING 1/2 A MILLION CARS WHEN THEY CAN'T EVEN FIX ONE?
STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING WHEN DRIVING. THEN, A CLICKING NOISE COULD BE HEARD WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $1200.00. CAR ONLY HAS 64,000 MILES ON IT.

MY 2011 SONATA WAS REPAIRED IN OCT. 2010 DUE TO RECALL 097 STEERING ISSUES. I AM HAVING STEERING ISSUES AGAIN SUCH AS LOOSE STEERING AND RATTLING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN EVERY TIME CAR IS IN MOTION. OCTOBER 6, 2015 DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN AT THE COST OF $1220.00. RECALL 097 STATES STEERING ISSUES COULD RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURY AND DEATH.

THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH THE FOLLOWING RECALL INFORMATION: SUMMARY: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 11, 2009, TO APRIL 12, 2012 AT HYUNDAI MOTOR MANUFACTURING ALABAMA AND EQUIPPED WITH EITHER A 2.0 LITER OR 2.4 LITER GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, METALLIC DEBRIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY REMOVED DURING MANUFACTURING OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT. AT 73,000 MILES MY STEERING WHEEL IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. ALSO IF I GO OVER A BUMP. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH WHEN MY SONATA UNEXPECTEDLY COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF UNTIL THE CAR DIES ON THE OFF-RAMP AND IS COMPLETELY IMMOBILE. MY CAR THEN HAD A SMALL ENGINE FIRE, BUT WAS PUT OUT AND BECAME A STATIONARY OBSTACLE DURING RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC FORCING OTHER VEHICLES TO GO AROUND AND NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT. IN CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP, I LEARNED OF THE RECALL, THOUGH SEEING AS THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED, MANY DRIVERS CONTINUE TO DRIVE THEIR AILED VEHICLES BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO WORK CANNOT BE WITHOUT OUR VEHICLES FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY AS MORE AND MORE VEHICLES WILL BEGIN TO DIE BECAUSE DRIVERS ARE TOLD THEY WILL "HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL PARTS COME IN, THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO UNTIL THEY COME IN OR HYUNDAI TELLS US WE CAN IMPLEMENT THE RECALL."
10/4/2015 I WAS DROPPING MY DAUGHTER OFF WHEN MY CAR STALLED CARS HAD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY TO PREVENT FROM HITTING US. THE CAR WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET I HAD TO PUSH IT OVER SO THAT WE COULD BE SAFE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. ITS BEEN TWO DAYS AND STILL THEY HAVE NOT LOOKED AT MY CAR AND HAVE NOT GIVEN ME A RENTAL CAR. I LOOKED ON LINE AND I SEE THAT THERE IS 5 RECALLS FOR MY CAR AND ONE IS AN ENGINE ISSUE WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR ANYMORE AND NEED SOMETHING TO BE DONE SINCE THIS IS STOPPING ME FROM GOING TO WORK AND PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER. RUBBER WASHER BROKE OFF BRAKE PEDAL ALLOWING THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO STAY ON ALL THE TIME. IT BURNT UP BOTH TAIL LIGHT LENSES AND BRAKE LIGHTS. THERE WAS NO WAY TO SHUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS OFF WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY OR REMOVING THE BULBS, WHICH I DID AND BURNT MY FINGERS.
OCTOBER 3RD 2015, I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 78 WEST. I WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I WAS DRIVING IN A 2 WAY LANE THAT WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. ALL OFF A SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY VEHICLE STARTED TO DECELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. I IMMEDIATELY HAD NO CONTROL AND MY SPEED WAS DECREASING FAST. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND IN MATTER OF 4-7 MINUTES MY CAR ENGINE WAS SHUTTING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY MULTIPLE TRUCKS WHO CONTINUED TO FLY BY MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AS I TRIED TO FIND SOME WHERE IN ENOUGH TIME TO BEAR OFF. PUTTING ME AND MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN IMMEDIATE DANGER. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS TERRIFIED. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OFF INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND PULL MY VEHICLE INTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. SINCE I WAS IN AN AREA THAT WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION ON THIS HIGHWAY THE SHOULDER SPACE WAS VERY LIMITED. I COULD FEEL THE TRUCKS PASS MY CAR AND I WAS SCARED FOR MY LIFE AND MY DAUGHTER?S LIFE. I HAD AN IMMEDIATE PANIC ATTACK AND THOUGHT MY DAUGHTER AND MYSELF WAS GOING TO DIE. THIS HAS CAUSED A GREAT DEAL OF HARDSHIP ON MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER. WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT OUR VEHICLE SINCE THIS INCIDENT. HYUNDAI IN LEBANON, PA HAS HAD MY VEHICLE SINCE 10/3/15 AND CONTINUE TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND. THEY SAY THEY ORDERED A NEW ENGINE , BUT IT HAS NOT SHIPPED TO THE DEALER YET. THIS INCIDENT HAS CREATED A TREMENDOUS HARDSHIP FOR ME AND MY FAMILY . I CONTINUE TO BE AT A DISADVANTAGE AS I AM DRIVING A RENTED VEHICLE . MEANWHILE I CONTINUE TO PAY FOR A CAR I HAVE NOT DRIVEN FOR OVER 3 MONTHS. YOUR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA HAS A "NO START" CONDITION WHICH HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST LEAVING THE MOTORIST STRANDED. VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SONATAS. DEALER WILL NOT WALK US THROUGH PROCEDURE TO START CAR IN ORDER TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED BEFORE BUT NOW HAS HAPPENED AGAIN.
